“It’s really comin’ down out there.” 

Your hands are pressing into the windowsill, cold wood only made colder by the slurry of snow that’s falling outside. The storm had been forecasted for a few days now, warnings of heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures lurking in the air but never quite coming. Until tonight, when you’re tucked away in Steve’s house for a movie night that neither of you are quite brave enough to call a date. That’s definitely what it is, though. 

“Yeah? How bad?” Steve’s still sitting on his couch, eyes trained on you as you stare at the snow for a couple of moments more before turning to him.

“Like, snowed in bad. Or, only go out if you got a death wish bad.” You tug the sleeves of your sweater down over your hands, fingers barely visible beneath the fabric, the cold seeming to seep through the window and into your bones despite the fact that Steve’s got the fire burning hotter than a summer's day. 

Steve nods, mouth open a little because the words are on the tip of his tongue. The offer for you to stay the night seems to choke up in his throat, because he’s not even had the courage to kiss you yet let alone ask you to spend the night in his house. But it’s not like that, it’d be dangerous to drive before the roads get gritted and he’s got enough guest bedrooms that you could try them three times over before having to settle on his room. Still, you’ve both been tip-toeing around your feelings for so long that any step closer together feels like a leap, a jump across a quarry that you’re only 99% sure you’ll make. That 1% stops you in your tracks every time. 

“I, um-” You cross your arms over your chest, tucking into yourself as you swallow your words before trying again. “Can I stay? Tonight? I don’t think I can drive in that.” You twist your whole body to look towards the window before turning back to Steve, the glow of the fire lighting him up all golden and pretty and making your request feel even more daunting. 

Steve nods, blinking at you a couple of times before he realizes he needs to say something, anything. The silence hanging in the air is heavy, and he coughs to clear his throat before speaking. “Yeah, yeah, of course you can.” He shuffles in his seat, leaning forward a little now. “I want you to.” He pauses, his confidence fleeting as quickly as it arrived. “To be safe, y’know.” 

“I know, thanks Steve.” Your voice is soft, always sweet and barely above a whisper as you try to hide the flush that’s rushing to your cheeks. You feel like you’re in high school again, some juvenile crush leaving you tongue tied and smitten, an innocent sweetness that seems so fragile that if you move too fast or speak too loud it’ll shatter around you. 

“Y’wanna finish watching the movie?” Pretty in Pink had been sitting on pause since you realized the snowstorm was well and truly underway, the frame frozen in place waiting for you to peel yourself away from the windowpane. Steve had rented it out from work for you, he could care less about watching it but you’ve been waiting for it to be back in store for weeks and the look on your face when he’d held it out to you tonight was more than worth it. He’s spent most of the film gazing at you, anyway. 

“Yeah, sorry, got a bit hypnotized by the snow there.” You laugh, a little embarrassed at how long you’ve been staring at the blanket of white that’s covering the street outside. The way Steve extends his arm for you to tuck yourself under takes over your mind and quickly forces that embarrassment out of your head. 

“S’alright, could look at it all night if you wanted to.” Your head is resting on his shoulder, his head leaning on yours so you can feel the vibrations of his words and you know he means them. Know he’d let you do whatever you wanted to, just happy to be in your company. 

“Probably send me a little loopy after a while.” Your words can barely be heard over the movie, whispered out because your heart is always beating a little too hard when you’re this close to Steve and if you speak any louder you’re certain your voice will crack or squeak and give you away. 

Steve chuckles, his arm that’s slung over your shoulder pulling you closer into his side and all you can think is he’s absolutely going to feel how wild your heart is going, some crazy rhythm that’s pounding against your chest. “Maybe best not to, then.”

“Mhm, maybe.” You try to keep your eyes focused on the TV, bright colors filling the dimly lit room and casting onto the walls around but your mind is racing with how soft Steve’s hair feels where it’s brushing against your forehead, and how all you can smell is his cologne mixing in with his laundry detergent on his jumper and how it’s all familiar, some heady woodsy scent with a soft synthetic floral underneath that smells a little too much like home. 

It makes you a little dizzy, each inhale making you want to sink deeper into his side, melt into his warmth and stay there as long as he’ll let you. 

The credits roll across the screen, the film somewhat a blur to the pair of you because you’re both silently caught up in the other. Both overly aware of the fact that now the movies over you’ll have to move, have to untangle from each other and try and navigate the conversation of where you’ll sleep and what you’ll wear and the thought of it all is so daunting that it has you contemplating walking home in the snow and accepting the risk of frostbite to avoid it. 

Steve’s the first to move, sitting up a little straighter but still careful to not move you too much. He likes the feeling of your head on his shoulder, a comfortable weight that he misses as soon as you lift it away. 

“C’mon, I’ll get you some pajamas and then we can, um, you can choose your room.” He’s quick to correct himself, eyes all soft on you as you nod and let him lead you upstairs. 

You linger close to the doorway as Steve roots through his drawers, an old Hawkin’s high shirt and some sweat shorts passed over to you with a smile. He thinks if his friends could see him right now, all smitten and shy and unsure of his words, they’d tell him to get it together. Definitely call him a loser, or a dingus, or some other insult that he’d take on the chin because they’d get it if they were in his shoes. 

You get changed in the bathroom, drawstring on the shorts pulled tight so they fit you, the length of them still looking a little silly on you but then the t-shirt ends up covering them mostly anyway. You fold your clothes up neatly, cradling them in your arms as you step out after one last look at yourself. You think you look ridiculous, Steve feels like he’s been punched in the chest when he sees you in his clothes - in a good way. 

“They alright?” Steve asks, eyes looking up and down at your frame that’s swamped by his clothes. 

“Yeah, they’re great, think I look real fashionable.” There’s a little teasing in your voice, still too soft for it to really hit the way it would from anyone else. 

“You do.” Steve nods. “You wanna see the guest rooms? There’s a few of ‘em, not to sound like a dickhead or anythin’, there just is. I can show you-”

You have to cut off his rambling, waiting for him to take a breath taking too long and you don’t want to wait. “Steve.”

“Hm? Yeah?”

“Can I stay with you?” You hold your clothes a little tighter to your chest, as if they were a barrier against the fear of rejection, the ache that would hit your chest if he were to deny you. 

Steve wants to pinch himself to make sure he’s not imagining your words, though he doesn’t. He tries to keep his cool. “Yeah, yeah. I’d like that.” 

You tuck your clothes into a corner of the room, out of the way, conscious not to make a mess of a space that’s not your own. Where you’re a guest. 

It’s all slow and hazy, soft movements as you follow Steve into his bed. His duvet held up so you can climb underneath it, set down gently as you both shuffle to try and get comfortable. Fingers brushing thighs and arms, barely there accidental touches that leave fires burning in their wake. The moonlight filters through the curtains, a muted glow that illuminates you both in a cold light - a contrast against the warmth in both your eyes with each glance at the other. 

Steve lets you slot yourself into his side, tucked into him with an arm across his chest whilst his arm is laid beneath your neck. The room is still, quiet save for the steady intake of breaths that are taken in sync. You can feel his gaze on you, eyes quickly darting away each time you shuffle like he’s scared to get caught admiring you. 

He’s not scared, he doesn’t think. Because he’s fought interdimensional monsters and stood up to Russian soldiers and that warrants being scared, not having the girl he so desperately likes next to him in his bed. The girl who sets an ache in his chest each time he sees her, has him flustered and overthinking and jumbling his words - no, that’s not fear. It’s something else entirely, something deeper and warmer hidden under the guise of anxiety. 

“Steve?” You whisper his name against his chest, not moving and Steve’s half convinced he’s imagined it. 

“Yeah?” He’s whispering back, voices hushed like you’re sharing secrets. Maybe you are. 

“Can I ask you something?” You tilt your head, pulling away from his chest a little so you can look at him in the pale moonlight. 

“Course, anything you want.” He means it. 

You let out a sigh, a deep exhale to try and rid yourself of the nerves and tension that’s currently building in your chest. “D’you-” you pause, another small exhale from your nose before you try again. “D’you wanna kiss me?” 

His eyes scan over your face, your eyes all wide and lips pressed tight together as you wait for an answer. He feels like his chest might explode from how his heart is rattling about inside of it. “Yeah, I do.” He covers his honesty with a little laugh, the lingering fear of rejection looming over him even though you’re the one asking him. “D’you want me to? Kiss you?”

You look like you’re deep in thought as you process his words, a small nod in response that could easily be missed.  “Yeah, I do.” 

Steve tries to fight off the way he wants to grin, all wide and boyish because of the way you’re looking at him and the fact you want him to kiss you. He really hopes he’s not dreaming. “Can I?” 

Your faces are already close, bodies pressed together in his bed to try and keep warm. The comfort of one another is enough to have you forgetting about the slurry outside. You nod again in response, a bigger one this time. One that says you’re certain, no doubt about it. 

His lips are soft when they meet yours, cautious and featherlight as he tests the waters. But you’re quick to respond, chin tilted up and to the side so you can properly kiss him. Still gentle, a steady push and pull that’s all too sweet and has your stomach fluttering like it’s your first.

maybe paul did want this at first. i think he really did want to outshine everyone, to beat everyone, especially prema, for dropping him, maybe kimi too, for having the two things he wanted— an F2 seat with prema and to be a part of the merc junior academy.

he got it though, didn’t he? he’s now leading the championship, breaking records for the longest held podium streak in F2, and he’s so well known and so far ahead of prema and ollie and kimi… but i can’t help but think that despite all this, he’s not genuinely happy, and probably never will be, because of the hurt and betrayal he faced from BOTH merc and prema within the same year.

like i think it’s a wound that’s def not very easy to work through, and i think despite everything that he has going on for him right now (all his accomplishments and such) he’s still having to deal with a bit of an inferiority complex yk? because like no matter how hard he tries he just wasn’t the priority, or the favourite (and i might just be forcing this image onto him based on my personal biases but still 😭😭)

and you bringing up that picture with that engineer genuinely almost made me cry because i never even thought about that and now ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

Hi! I just wanted to say, thank you so much for making the Red & Wolf comic. I just found it by accident and read through the whole thing in one night, I am seriously loving it so far. I'm autistic and I've always had a strong interest in wolves, specifically Little Red Riding Hood versions of wolves, and always wanted to read a story about the wolf having a sort of redemption or it being more than just "big bad wolf is evil and wants to eat the girl". There's hardly any content for me to dive into in regards of even just the fairytale itself, most stories are very gruesome, the short films online are incredibly dark and uncomfortable since those are the adaptations of the original grimm telling, or all of the red riding hood movies are horror films instead of fairytale adaptations. Or some sort of like... idk love triangle thing where it's all modernized or something for televesion where Red is wearing jeans and the Wolf isn't even a real wolf? But yours... this is like finding gold. I was hooked immediately and I couldn't stop reading.

Your story of Scarlett and Leikos... it's just so gorgeous, your art work has such clean lines and the way you draw eyes and hands especially is so beautiful. The design for Leikos' hair is my favorite!! And the panel you made where Scarlett is lying down on the grass/tree stump and she's blushing while Leikos is talking with her, oh my gosh, that's my favorite panel out of every chapter so far. Just... the vulnerability of these two growing closer, like... augh clutching my heart when Leikos is like "no don't cross the path you're gonna get hurt :(" and she's like "but I want to dance with you :)" like!!! she trusts him and he refuses to hurt her even when instincts kick in!! HIS BACKSTORY? BRO? I'M IN SHAMBLES?? Ugh your art is so GOOD and this STORY is so GOOD and I am just so thankful to be able to dive into a Wolf/Red story that has action, romance, suspense, all the good stuff. It's so perfect.

Thank you for working so so hard to make this comic. I'm an artist as well and I could never have the patience to upload one comic page, let alone several. Laying out panels is difficult and time consuming and not to mention you're shading and coloring the entire thing. Your poses are always fluid, never stiff, you have good perspective and composition, most ppl who make comics can easily just draw one single pose and one facial expression for 20 panels, but you've always had the expressions and body language shift and change and the camera view as well... and you gotta draw all those damn trees omfg. The flower meadow in the first chapter must have taken forever to draw too! Your hard work really shows in your art and I am so happy to have stumbled upon your comic. If you make any more merch for Red & Wolf on your Etsy, whether it's prints or charms or stickers or really anything, I would be more than willing to throw some money your way. Or if you open commissions as well someday, ahh, I love your stuff so much I would totally pay you to doodle Leikos hehe. Please have a wonderful day and take care! <3

It's really nice, like maybe I really am too hard on myself?? Whenever I look back on my old panels (which I've been doing a lot lately since reformatting Red & Wolf for print), I always feel like I put way too much effort and kind of only see what I did wrong, but if you and others recognize the effort and like what I did - then maybe it wasn't a waste of time after all. That makes me feel way better about it, thank you :' ) Also, your favorite panel is one of my favorite panels too, where I felt "dang, I kind of nailed it here" - which is SUPER rare for me, haha. I should read this lovely message whenever the impostor syndrome kicks in, it really lifted my spirits <3
