Important Current Affairs for UPSC 2024 Prelims
Tumblr media
As the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination approaches, aspirants must focus on the crucial element of current affairs. For the UPSC 2024 Prelims, staying updated with recent developments across various domains is vital. The weightage given to current affairs in both the Preliminary and Main examinations has increased over the years, making it imperative to identify and thoroughly prepare the most relevant topics.
1. Global Geopolitical Shifts
The past year has witnessed significant geopolitical changes that are likely to be important for UPSC 2024. Key developments include the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, its global ramifications, and India's diplomatic stance on the issue. Additionally, the shifting dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region, the rise of China's influence, and India's participation in global forums like the Quad, G20, and BRICS are essential areas to focus on. The strategic partnerships and challenges that India faces in this evolving global order will likely be a significant part of the Prelims.
2. Climate Change and Environmental Issues
Environmental issues are increasingly important in the UPSC syllabus, reflecting global and national concerns about climate change. For the 2024 Prelims, topics like the outcomes of COP28, India's progress on its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, and new environmental policies and regulations introduced in India should be studied in detail. The impact of climate change on agriculture, water resources, and biodiversity, as well as disaster management strategies, are also crucial areas to cover.
3. Indian Economy
The Indian economy, especially in the context of post-pandemic recovery, is another vital area for UPSC aspirants. Topics such as inflation control measures, the performance of various sectors, government initiatives like 'Make in India' and 'Digital India,' and recent reforms in the agricultural sector are crucial. The role of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in managing economic stability, developments in the banking sector, and the rise of fintech are also important. Aspirants should also be aware of global economic trends and their impact on India.
4. Social Issues and Government Schemes
Government schemes and social issues form a significant part of the UPSC Prelims. In 2024, focus on initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and the National Education Policy 2020. Social issues such as healthcare, education, and gender equality, along with government responses to these challenges, are critical. Understanding the implementation and impact of these schemes will be beneficial for both Prelims and Mains.
5. Science and Technology
Technological advancements and their applications in governance and society are crucial for the UPSC exam. Topics like India's space missions, developments in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and renewable energy are likely to be tested. The role of technology in improving public services, cybersecurity issues, and the digital economy are also important.
Conclusion
Preparing for the UPSC 2024 Prelims requires a strategic approach to current affairs. While covering a broad range of topics is necessary, focusing on the most impactful developments will enhance your preparation. With the UPSC 2024 Prelims approaching, aspirants are increasingly focusing on which current affairs topics are likely to be significant. Below is a guide to the most important areas you should concentrate on, with insights from Khan Global Studies.
