UPSC Civil Services Exams Preparation Tips from Toppers
Every year the Union Public Service Commission conducts civil services examinations for recruitment to various civil services such as the IAS, IFS, and IPS. Qualifying for the exams results in highly prestigious positions under the Government of India. Out of the several lakhs of students attempting the exams in the end less than a thousand are granted jobs. With a success rate of less than 1%, it is highly helpful for UPSC aspirants to understand what the toppers did right and what is their success mantra. Numerous nationally trusted sources of study material for the UPSC civil services exam publish interviews and tips for success from toppers of each year. Preparatory books like “Predigital Darpan” and online platforms like “reader buzz” offer exclusive interviews of toppers where they describe their strategy for the exam and their advice for future aspirants. Here are some preparatory tips from toppers for UPSC civil services exam: - There is no shortcut to success. Concentration and deep study of the subjects are necessary for successfully solving problems related to them. - Start early and give your exam preparations at least a year of devoted time. The UPSC exams have a giant syllabus covering a vast range of subjects. Don’t hurry and acquire a comprehensive understanding of the subjects over time. - Students are offered numerous optional subjects for two papers in the Mains exam. Recognize your interests and choose your optional subjects wisely. Preparing a subject and giving up on it halfway will not only waste your time but also demotivate you. Go through the syllabi of each subject and read more about them so that you can choose according to your past academic background in the subject and your level of ease in understanding the study material. - Make it your habit to write down notes. The notes not only simplify the revision process but they also help you recall the topics for a longer period of time. It is a scientific fact that we tend to remember things that we have written down more easily and effectively. Add diagrams, flow charts, etc. into your notes and answers in the exam. - Practice writing down detailed answers using correct grammar in a neat, simple, and readable manner. Keep your answers compact and add flowcharts, Venn diagrams, diagrams, etc. to reflect a clear understanding of the subject material. - You must always refer to authentic resources like referred standard NCERT textbooks and magazines like, AIR News analysis, Planning Commission Document, Economic Survey Report, and Publication Division Books. - To be successful you must answer almost every question and for that, you need time management. Practice mock tests and learn to utilize your time effectively over the different sections of the exam. If stuck leave the question instead of panicking and wasting time on one question. Read newspapers regularly and subscribe to recognised preparatory books and websites for valid updated information and knowledge of current affairs. To get updated information related to the upcoming exam dates, current affairs, and other such relevant topics visit the website. Strategic Steps for Success in UPSC IAS
To qualify in a highly competitive examination like UPSC IAS, where victory rate is very low, one has to follow a well-planned guideline and few mantras with perseverance. If one can follow the below stated strategic points, then he/she can certainly qualify this examination.
Step-1 The first and foremost thing is, the candidate has to be personally motivated and determined enough to become an IAS Officer. The sole motto of the aspirant has to be focused to become an IAS Officer.
Step-2 The candidates should be thorough enough about the examination details such as the stages of examination, syllabus, pattern of examination, cut off marks for all the stages etc.
Step-3 The candidates should be thorough enough about the examination details such as stages of examination, syllabus, pattern of examination, cut off marks for all the stages etc. Before the start of preparation, everything above should be very much clarified to the aspirant.
Step-4 Now, the candidate should develop a study plan meticulously and rationally, keeping in view his/her other engagements, availability of time, ability to sit and study. It is good if it is unique as far as possible.
Step-5 Now the most crucial part is how to study??? Here our strategy given as below.
First cover NCERT on all available subjects
Then go for     respective reference book & current affairs for higher study on the     subjects
Go for Question &     Answer Practice from the available  previous year UPSC questions. Both Objective & Subjective.
After which write     essays on each and every topic you read, understand & one Q&A     Exercises.
Post completion of     all the subjects and topics, attempt  Mock Tests as much as possible to get a     deeper insight into UPSC question pattern and     how to decode it sitting in an exam like environment.
Step-6 The last, but not the least, please pay attention only in the preparation, and maintain consistency of involvement in study and definitely by the end of a year you would be in a position to attend all the questions of UPSC & probably decode it very easily and can qualify to the final list. All the Best!!!

How tough is the IAS exam competition?
IAS exam (UPSC Civil Services Exam) is widely considered the toughest exam in India. Why?
This is not because of the difficulty of the questions asked. Of course, the questions which come in the Preliminary, Mains or Interview stages of the IAS exam are not easy. But IAS exam is tough to crack because the selection ratio is very less.
There is only a limited number of vacancies every year (only approximately 1000, for all the 24 services combined like IAS, IPS, IFS, etc. – and this includes 49.5% reservation).
The competition is huge. And, the quantity and quality of the competition are increasing exponentially. The selection can now be rightly called ‘one in a million as more than 1 million aspirants apply for the exam – including those for IITs, IIMs, etc.
