Ascent Towards Light
I sit, ensconced with my comforter in the almost-bare and empty apartment unit, where, for the longest time, since 2022, have been a witness to the changing landscapes of my dreams and visions.  It is here where I decided for myself that it’s finally time to pursue my God-given dreams, and it is also here where I experienced a cold, lingering feeling of anxiety that would spread across my chest…

Does Mea have a backstory? If so care to share? And are there different backstories in different continuities?
Ooh this is gonna be a long one so strap in!
Genesis / My TF universe
Genesis is still in working progress but here's what I summed up so far for Mea!
-Everything takes place in the Visayas, Philippines in a small town named 'Alpas' (fictional town I made). Mea had to move to Alpas with her mother and step-father as a young child, her bio-father is out of the picture. She felt out of place in school and didn't have many friends. On the night of her 7th birthday, the Fulmine (Voltage & Zodiac's ship) crashed nearby the compound she lives in.
-She sneaks out the property and goes to check it out where she meets Voltage (at this point Zodiac is still in stasis lock). She later forms a familial bond with Voltage. 12 years pass and Mea is turning 19 years old. For her 19th, Voltage promised to take her on a trip to search for Energon for the Fulmine and it's on that trip where things all started to go wrong for her (I can't say much anymore cause it'll be spoilers for the story 👀)
TFP / Aligned Continuity
I've posted old stuff about Mea's place in TFP but this is the updated one!
-Beginning is pretty similiar to her backstory in Genesis except Voltage isn't present, he and Mea don't get to meet but in his place is Zodiac instead (Mea and Zodiac do not have a familial bond like Mea does with Voltage). Mea runs into Zodiac and his crashed ship on her 19th birthday after she run off during a bad fight with her mother. After getting practically jumpscared by Zodiac, Mea forms a close bond with him.
-(The events here happened before the Darkness Rising episodes). Months pass, Zodiac and Mea always go on trips on the Fulmine whenever she gets into a fight with her mother. On one trip to Jasper however they run into Starscream and the Vehicons. Zodiac put up a good fight with Starscream but he ultimately gets killed by him. The Dagitab relic (new name for the Kyklos relic) is then passed on to Mea who quickly runs off back to the Fulmine.
-Mea didn't know how to operate the Fulmine and so she hides out in the ship for days on in a place she doesn't know up until Team Prime finds her. They bring in Agent Fowler who helps to contact her parents but he can't let her go back home as the Decepticons would surely target her too and so Fowler sets her up with her own personal apartment in Jasper, all expenses accounted for, most of her time being spent in the Autobot base (She doesn't want a guardian despite Optimus' insistence, Mea is still mourning Zodiac's death but she ends up becoming close with Bumblebee).
Transformers:Earthspark
ES! Mea's background is shorter than the first two if I'm being honest sbdhdbf
-Her backstory is similiar to Genesis (Voltage and Zodiac are both alive. Mea and Zodiac had a short relationship before they parted ways. Voltage still lives with Mea). Before the war had ended, Mea was a mechanic and she often frequented on camping trips. That's where she met Bumblebee by accident. The two got close and when Bumblebee had "died", Mea was devastated.
-Fifteen years later, Mea still works as a mechanic but she moves to Witwicky with Voltage (who worked under Ghost). When the news came that Bumblebee was actually alive, Mea was livid with Optimus and the other Autobots for keeping it from her despite knowing the nature of their relationship. Mea was also pissed with Bumblebee but she tries to get over it and forgive him, trying to build back their relationship.
Transformers Animated
Still working out for Mea's backstory here in TFA but here's a basis of it!
-Voltage n Zodiac sadly aren’t alive in the Animated verse. They both didn’t make it in the crash but the relic was keeping Zodiac alive for just a little longer. Mea finds the crashed Fulmine and he ventures inside out of pure curiosity. Once inside, he finds Voltage’s offline body and Zodiac barely holding on. Zodiac sees Mea and he begs for him to take the relic away to end it all. Freaked out, Mea did as asked and he took the relic away, causing Zodiac to go offline for good. Mea takes back the relic back home and tries to make sense of what he found. Should he report it to Fanzone? Go to the Autobots?
-Before he could do anything further, the relic starts reacting and it attaches itself to Mea’s chest. The surge of electricity and power causes extreme pain for him, creating a large scar on his chest. The relic allows him to have a second Cybertronian body, basically making him similiar to a techno-organic but not completely unlike Sari.
And that's about all I've got! For Knightverse and Bayverse, her backstory is a mix between Genesis and TFP. Cyberverse I can't say much yet cause I have to finish watching it first.

Day 56 of 366
On Carefully Selecting Your Research Adviser.
So my colleague toured me in Iloilo just to unwind. 🌴 He knew how burned out I was with what's happening with life lately. 😓 How harsh the universe was to the point that it compromised most of the plans that you had for this year. So what he offered was really priceless, especially when he knew how fond I was of history and social science in general. 🗺️
Tumblr media
I shared with them the recent ghostings of my adviser, who is also his former adviser. 👻 How lame the reasoning was. I told him everything. We were composed of a group of former classmates who knew the feeling of being left behind and, with the milestones they should have been achieving, comprised us. 🎓🤝
We all did this while drinking. 🥂 And of course, they asked me, 'What are your plans?' 🤔
I told them how ready I was to finally get my diploma. 🎓 And they were not surprised since they knew how prompt I can be when things make sense, which is what I am passionate about. I also shared the previous dilemma that I had at work. They told me, 'Have a sip of what I have told you so'. 🍷 For context, they were actually recruiting me to become a lecturer at the University of the Philippines, Visayas Campus. Well, I declined their recruitment since I considered the proximity of my work. 🏫
I discussed the first three scripts of my podcast episode. 🎙️ They were surprised that I was very eager to explore this avenue. 🎧
After the short pep talk, they decided to take a few walks, and then we concluded the day. What a nice way to vent! 🚶‍♂️🌇

AFP Decisively Targets Terrorists
Tumblr media
A Week of Tactical Triumphs
In a relentless pursuit of peace and security, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has successfully neutralized a significant threat to national stability, as reported by the Philippine News Agency. Throughout the week, from February 18 to 24, the AFP has reported the successful neutralization of 13 insurgents, including members of the communist New People's Army (NPA) and the terrorist Dawlah-Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG), across the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
Courage Under Fire
General Romeo Brawner Jr., AFP Chief, commended the valor of the troops involved in these operations. "You are our nation's heroes," he stated, further emphasizing the dedication and bravery of the forces in safeguarding peace. Additionally, this operational success brings the Philippines closer to achieving its long-sought goal of enduring peace, thereby showcasing the military's unwavering commitment to protecting its citizens from insurgency and terrorism.   Strategic Operations Yield Results The operations were widespread and meticulously planned. In Albay, Barangay Salvacion witnessed the capture of weapons from NPA rebels by the 49th Infantry Battalion. Similarly, collaborative efforts in Bohol, Agusan Del Norte, Cagayan, and Negros Occidental led to the dismantling of significant insurgent and terrorist elements, further destabilizing their networks and reducing their capacity to disrupt national peace. Notably, an operation targeting the DI-MG resulted in the neutralization of members responsible for the Mindanao State University bombing, underscoring the AFP's resolve to address terrorism. The military's efforts have led to the dismantling of the leadership structures of these groups, significantly weakening their operational capabilities.   National Defense and Commendation The Department of National Defense, led by Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., echoed the military's sentiments, particularly praising the operations against the DI-MG. The Secretary highlighted the importance of these operations in maintaining national security and expressed the nation's gratitude towards the troops for their sacrifices.
The Dawlah-Islamiyah-Maute Group
The Dawlah-Islamiyah-Maute Group, an armed Islamist faction operating in Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, has been a significant security concern for the Philippines. Emerging in 2014, the DI-MG pledged allegiance to ISIS, adopting violent means in their quest to establish an Islamic caliphate. Despite being weakened by military operations, the group continues to pose a threat through sporadic attacks and recruitment activities.   Sources: THX News, Wikipedia, The George Washington University, Australian National Security & Philippine News Agency. It was martial law, and soldiers shot and killed many young Tausug men in Jolo on mere suspicion of being rebels, [Amroussi “Cheng” Rasul, a grandson of the late Hadji Butu, the first Muslim Filipino senator] recalled. Among them, he said, was his classmate, Alfred Chang.
Rasul’s grim memory harked back to the government’s military crackdown on the historic town, as it sought to suppress the uprising of the Nur Misuari-led Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), then a new group that emerged to challenge the martial law imposed by the late strongman Ferdinand E. Marcos more than a year earlier and started the struggle for Moro independence.
Five decades later, the events of the February 4-11, 1974 siege in Jolo remain largely forgotten, and neither the local governments nor the National Commission for Muslim Filipinos (MCMF) has arranged commemorative activities for what has been dubbed the “Jolo-caust.”
The Battle of Jolo, also called The Burning of Jolo, was a significant but often overlooked event in the country’s history in that it was the strongest resistance against the martial regime of Marcos at that time, said retired judge Soliman Santos Jr. during the live-streamed “The Siege of Jolo 1974” forum at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City on Monday, February 12.
At the same time, the event signaled the beginning of a growing movement for Mindanao independence, according to Santos, author of the book The Moro Islamic Challenge: Constitutional Rethinking for the Mindanao Peace Process.
As the military fought against MNLF forces, intense battles spread throughout the city. Military ships bombarded the pier, a gas station exploded, and napalm bombs were used. After days of fighting, the military regained control, but about two-thirds of the Jolo burned to the ground and lay in ruins.
Amina Rasul, lead convenor of the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy (PCID), said it was a “devastating blow to the fabric of Tausug and Jolo society resulting in immeasurable human suffering, economic hardships, and destruction of our political structure… and represented a very painful part of our history.”
“People in Manila think we were always poor. No, we were very well off even though we were neglected by the government,” she said.
“Because of the complete destruction… the money that made Jolo relatively rich went to enrich Zamboanga, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Manila… And because there was capital flight and the destruction of infrastructure, the best and brightest had to leave because there were no opportunities and they had to support their families,” she said.
The Marcos administration then, concerned about possible consequences from oil-producing Muslim nations, took steps to address the humanitarian impact in the predominantly Muslim province. It established a government task force to lead Jolo’s recovery, which included actions like stopping loan repayments to banks, providing significant loans to residents, and pausing tax collection temporarily.
Elgin Salomon, an assistant history professor at UP-Visayas in Iloilo, said the government then initially concealed the situation in Jolo and later framed the narrative that it was fighting “Maoist rebels” in Jolo through its controlled media.
The MNLF subsequently abandoned its pursuit of independence and forged a peace agreement with the Ramos administration in the 1990s. The accord led to the establishment of the now-defunct Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the precursor to the current and expanded Bangsamoro region.
Five decades later, what lingers is a sense of nostalgia, with many survivors still longing to witness the return of Jolo’s former glory, said Agnes Shari Tan Aliman, a survivor and author of the book The Siege of Jolo, 1974.

FFW-Visayas Local Unions Join Legal Challenge to ‘Indecent’ Constitutional Proposal
Iloilo City — In a conference in Tigbauan, Province of Iloilo, the Federation of Free Workers (FFW)-Visayas local unions and affiliate have announced their readiness to join forces with FFW, other labor groups in the Nagkaisa Labor Coalition, Church-Labor Conference and other like-minded organizations in a legal battle in court and in the parliament of the streets to block the charter change proposal using the ‘people’s initiative’.
The FFW-Visayas Unions are planning to join FFW National Initiative to file a petition, before  the COMELEC or Supreme Court, challenging the legality of the proposed tinkering to insert “joint voting” through a people’s initiative (PI) as it is a substantial alteration or a revision of the fundamental law of the land.
Lambino vs COMELEC and COMELEC itself in its Resolution 10650 prohibited PI to include substantial change.
The FFW Visayas signed the “Manifesto of the FFW-Visayas Against Charter Change” today.
Tumblr media
Warie Espada, union president of the Lopez Sugar Central-FFW Chapter, asserted, “our priority now is our  strong advocacy for a  legislated  P150 wage hike, across the board, nationwide, towards living wage — indi kami sa CHACHA.”
“This decision was deliberated during the FFW’s regional meeting in the Visayas, indicating a united front from the  local unions and chapters in the Visayas,” FFW Vice President for Visayas Tiffany Ong said.
Ms. Ong, who is also the union president of the Iloilo Mission Hospital Employees Union-FFW, asserted, “we  staunchly oppose the proposed amendment via people’s initiative, it is an ‘indecent proposal’.
This tinkering that aims to enable joint voting between the Senate and the House of Representatives to modify the nation’s supreme law is a revision. Such will result to a substantial or  structural change of the balance of power between both Chambers– the House of Representatives would overwhelm the Senate by numerical superiority in the deliberation and voting process.
Echoing Justice Antonio Carpio’s views, FFW contends that the people’s initiative mechanism should be limited to straightforward amendments but in prohibits substantial change that amounts  to revisions.
Significantly shifts in the balance of power between the legislative chambers, require a more thorough and considered approach through a deliberative body.
Ma. Victoria Bellosillo, FFW Women Network President, added, “we acknowlege that we need constitutional reforms but charter change (chacha) is not the workers’ priority now”.
“Wala rin ito sa 5-year plan ng NEDA — thus, instead of allocating P28 billion for this CHACHA, can’t we redirect the funds to ‘TANGO’ – trabaho, ayuda, negosyo, gawing oportunidad para sa obrero?”, humorously quipped Bellosillo who is also the union president of the Central Philippines University Rank and File Labor Union-FFW.
NEDA said that Charter Change requires P28 billion from proposal to its ratification or rejection.
Bellosillo explained that this substantial amount could be more effectively used for job creation, providing assistance to the unemployed, and offering training and skills development to enhance employability.
“Additionally, it could serve as additional income if allocated to worker’s livelihood or funding for MSMEs and small entrepreneurs, rapidly benefiting workers and small business owners”, added Espada who is also the Chairperson of the Food, Beverages and Agriculture Industry Trade Federation  (TF-1) of FFW.
