Dedicated Windows Servers: The Ideal Solution for Windows-Based Applications
In the ever-evolving landscape of IT infrastructure, businesses are constantly on the lookout for robust, efficient, and scalable solutions to support their operations. For organizations that rely on Windows-based applications, opting for dedicated Windows servers can be a game-changer. These servers offer a range of benefits tailored to meet the specific needs of businesses, ensuring high performance, security, and seamless integration with Windows environments. In this blog, we’ll explore why dedicated Windows servers are the ideal solution for running Windows-based applications.
What is a Dedicated Windows Server?
A dedicated Windows server is a physical server exclusively leased to a single client. Unlike shared hosting, where resources are divided among multiple users, a dedicated server offers all the resources, including CPU, RAM, and bandwidth, to a single organization. This allows for complete control over the server environment, including its configuration and management.
With a dedicated Windows server, businesses can run applications, websites, databases, and more on a system optimized for Windows operating systems, including the popular Windows Server editions (e.g., Windows Server 2019, 2022). These servers are tailored to ensure compatibility, performance, and ease of management for Windows-based applications.
Benefits of Using Dedicated Windows Servers
Unmatched Performance and Speed
One of the most significant advantages of a dedicated Windows server is the superior performance it offers. Since you’re not sharing resources with other users, the server’s full capacity is at your disposal. This results in faster load times, reduced latency, and overall superior speed, making it ideal for running resource-intensive applications or websites that require high processing power, such as ERP systems, databases, and custom applications.
Full Control and Customization
Dedicated Windows servers give you full administrative access, allowing you to customize the server environment to your specific needs. You can install, configure, and manage applications, software, and updates as required. This flexibility is crucial for businesses that need to run custom-built or specialized applications that may not be supported on shared hosting platforms.
Enhanced Security
Security is a top concern for businesses in the digital age. With a dedicated Windows server, you gain an isolated environment, ensuring that your data and applications are not affected by other users' actions. Additionally, you have the ability to implement advanced security measures such as firewalls, antivirus software, and data encryption to protect sensitive information. Regular updates and patches provided by Windows Server versions help ensure that your server stays secure against the latest threats.
Scalability and Flexibility
As your business grows, so do your IT requirements. Dedicated Windows servers allow for easy scalability, meaning you can upgrade the server’s hardware resources (CPU, RAM, storage) as needed. Whether you’re expanding your application or increasing the number of users, dedicated servers can grow with your business, offering a high level of flexibility that shared hosting simply can’t provide.
Optimal for Windows-Based Applications
For businesses that rely on Windows-specific applications, such as Microsoft SQL Server, ASP.NET, and SharePoint, a dedicated Windows server is the most compatible environment. These applications are designed to run seamlessly on Windows operating systems, and dedicated servers ensure that the applications perform optimally without the potential conflicts that may arise on other server types.
Improved Reliability and Uptime
Dedicated servers are known for their reliability. Since you’re the only client using the server, there’s no risk of other users impacting the server's performance. Hosting your Windows-based applications on a dedicated server ensures high availability and minimal downtime. Many providers also offer uptime guarantees and proactive monitoring to keep the server running smoothly at all times.
Professional Support
Many dedicated server providers offer specialized support for Windows servers. This means that if you encounter any issues or require assistance with server management, you can rely on professional experts who understand the intricacies of the Windows environment. This level of support can be invaluable for businesses that don’t have dedicated in-house IT teams.
When Should You Consider a Dedicated Windows Server?
While dedicated Windows servers offer numerous advantages, they are best suited for businesses with the following needs:
High Traffic Websites: If your website or application attracts a large number of visitors, a dedicated server can provide the necessary resources to handle the traffic efficiently.
Resource-Intensive Applications: Applications that require significant processing power, such as databases, enterprise software, or custom-built programs, benefit from the dedicated resources of a dedicated server.
Strict Security Requirements: Businesses that deal with sensitive customer data or have strict compliance requirements, such as in the healthcare or finance sectors, need the enhanced security features offered by dedicated servers.
Customization Needs: If your business relies on customized Windows-based applications or requires specific configurations, a dedicated Windows server offers the flexibility and control needed to optimize performance.
Conclusion
In today’s digital landscape, where performance, security, and flexibility are paramount, dedicated Windows servers offer a powerful and reliable solution for businesses that rely on Windows-based applications. With their exceptional performance, full control, and compatibility with Windows environments, dedicated servers ensure that your applications run seamlessly, securely, and efficiently. By choosing a dedicated Windows server, businesses can future-proof their IT infrastructure and enjoy a high level of performance and peace of mind.
If you’re looking for the ideal solution for your Windows-based applications, investing in a dedicated Windows server is an excellent decision that will pay off in the long run.

What You Need to Know About SQL Server Licensing

Before Ignite, Microsoft announced some major changes to the licensing of SQL Server. They addressed many of the confusing elements in the licensing system. With the new benefits, IT can more efficiently deploy the software. In addition, they clarified the licensing elements that should be considered.
There are two main types of licensing options for SQL Server. The first is the Per Core model, and the second is the Server + CAL model. While both offer unique features, they have varying minimum requirements. For instance, Per Core requires a core license for every CPU core on your server, while the Server + CAL model requires one CAL for each external user. It's also possible to get additional cores if you need them.
The Server + CAL model is often easier to manage for smaller organizations. However, the CALs required to operate this type of licensing are per-user and can be a bit confusing. That said, it does provide a lower price point. Know more about SQL Server Licensing today!Â
While the license requirements for SQL Server vary, the basic requirements are fairly straightforward. Generally, a license for a standard SQL Server Standard Edition costs $2k USD for each core, and a license for an Enterprise Edition costs $7k. You can upgrade the licenses to a higher edition with Software Assurance. If you do, you will receive a number of other benefits. To know more about software, visit this website at http://www.dictionary.com/browse/application--program.
Microsoft also offers a service called Software Assurance, which offers a variety of benefits. This includes free upgrades to the latest versions of SQL Server for as long as you are paying the licensing fee. Moreover, the company allows you to reassign your SQL Server licenses between servers within your server farm. Depending on the server you are moving to, you will be able to move your licenses once per 90 days. Alternatively, you can reassign them to a third-party server farm. Regardless of the licensing method you choose, you will need to ensure that the SA coverage for the servers involved is active.
Another great benefit offered by Software Assurance is a "high availability" feature via dynamic replication services. With this, if a server fails, the software will automatically move to a standby server on the same or equivalent scale.
The most important benefit is that Software Assurance allows you to use your hardware computing capacity to its full potential. Unlike other licenses, you can deploy an unlimited number of containers on your licensed server. Whether you have an Enterprise or a Standard Edition license, you can take advantage of this benefit.
Finally, if you are using the new License Mobility feature, you can move your SQL Server license from one server to another at will. Although this benefit isn't as robust as the other features mentioned above, it can be useful in certain environments. Specifically, it's appropriate for high density container environments.
As you can see, the new features and benefits in SQL Server at https://www.directdeals.com/software/microsoft-remote-desktop/rds-2022 make it an attractive option for organizations of all sizes. Getting your licenses reassigned and taking advantage of the other features can help your organization improve its productivity and efficiency.

How Sticking with Dynamics NAV Can Bring Your Business Down?
Upgrade NAV to BC / By Trident Information Systems
The major reason for your business to suffer if you choose to stick to Dynamics NAV is its end of support which will eventually leave you on your own. Dynamics NAV 2017 version met its end-of-life-cycle support in Jan 2022, whereas Dynamics NAV 2018’s support is still viable till Jan 2023 leaving you a noticeably short time to optimize it further. It is best to Upgrade NAV to Business Central.Â
Some businesses still use Dynamics NAV to support their production environment. The decision to stick to the older version could be derived from its perceived stability: it can resolve all the issues and does exactly what it is expected to do. Â
Alternatively, a business may decide to delay its NAV to BC Upgrade to save IT capital cost while “sweating” its resources to extract maximum return on investment. However, this approach will eventually lead to the business’s downfall as it can collapse anytime.Â
What Would Happen If You Still Glued with Dynamics Nav Without Support?Â
You are welcoming a huge security risk, limited disaster recovery options, no more updates and patches, and a lack of functionality if you still expect Dynamics NAV to facilitate core functionalities to your business. Hence Upgrade NAV to Business Central.Â
A Massive Security Threat Â
Once your vendor ends the support for Dynamics NAV, you are no longer entitled to the relevant upgrades or patches. You will no longer receive any support for issues occurring in the application. Since you cannot resolve them on your own, the application starts posing a risk to your overall business rather than a medium for its growth. Â
Limited Disaster Recovery Â
Not having NAV to Business Central Upgrade means no more support from Microsoft leaves businesses to struggle on their own. Suppose if something wrong happens to the application and the entire environment demands a rebuild, the user is liable to source the correct version (which is not so easy). In this scenario, businesses will have to track aged operating system and SQL Server versions. This can even jeopardize your security and lead to data loss or data theft by hackers. Â
In the worst-case scenario, you may not even get to access the older version and require an urgent NAV to Dynamics 365 Business Central upgrade. An upgrade project can take a good sum of time. Even if the upgrade is planned, it can take up to months to complete. Leaving you with months of downtime and eventually, making your production suffer. Â
Functionality DeficiencyÂ
Many businesses who have been paying for maintenance licensing are entitled to access the latest NAV versions. However, delaying the upgrade is not useful either. Upgrade NAV to Business Central as Microsoft Dynamics 365 has a pedigree of ongoing developments and upgrades. For more than three decades, NAV has been redefined to provide greater functionalities. No doubt, it provided great services to its users, but the end of support will reverse the situation. The user can no longer access the new upgrades and functionalities while declining productivity. Â
So, what is the Solution?Â
The only solution is to Upgrade NAV to Business Central. Microsoft introduced Business Central on April 2nd, 2018. The newer technology delivers more robust features, tailored functionalities, and a more agile interface. It did not take too long to conquer a special place among SMBs as one of the most reliable, flexible, and scalable ERPs (Enterprise Resource Planning). The NAV to Business Central Upgrade Enables – advanced mobile access, application integration, custom adaptability, seamless upgrades, affordability, and reporting capabilities. Â
However, besides worrying about training employees for a newer version, heavy historical data transition brings chills down the user’s spine. Little do they realize that the data structure of NAV and BC is the same. Thus, if your data is organized and corruption-free, you are good to go. Â
Dynamics 365 Business Central automatically upgrades your application frequently without disturbing your business’s ecosystem, and twice a year with major upgrades, for which the user is notified a couple of days prior. Â
Dynamics 365 BC is a cloud-based application that enables remote control, which means it is accessible anytime, anywhere, from any device. Thus, leaving you no scope for investing in hardware, server, and maintenance agreements. Â
The data is completely secured as 3,500 cyber-security experts are protecting, responding, and detecting cyber threats.Â
Business Central endorses faster and more flexible financial reporting via Jet Reports and Power BI (Business Intelligence). Machine learning and AI (Artificial Intelligence) (Artificial Intelligence) support tools monitor and forecast more precise data. Â
Its flexible licensing fees enable the user to manage cash flow. Instead of an annual enhancement, you only pay per user every month.Â
Bottom Line Â
No matter how efficient you perceive your Dynamics NAV to be, the fact remains that it is on the verge of its life. It is recommended to Upgrade NAV to Business Central as soon as possible as it will define your business’s future. If you are planning for a NAV to BC Upgrade, contact Trident Information Systems. We are Dynamics 365 Business Central Gold Partner and LS Central Diamond Partner.Â

Discontinued Technology Tools You Need to Stop Using Right Away
New Post has been published on https://www.aheliotech.com/blog/discontinued-technology-stop-using/
Discontinued Technology Tools You Need to Stop Using Right Away
Technology progresses rapidly, often more rapidly than users are ready for. It’s hard to give up a browser or operating system that you’ve been working in for several years.
But as product developers move on, they drop support for their older products, when this happens, it can lead to breaches. Security vulnerabilities can be exploited that are no longer having patches released for them. Users are stuck in time with no way to update those older technology tools.
Using discontinued technology is both a risk to network security and compliance. Penalties for data privacy compliance violations are often higher when it’s found that a company hasn’t been following best practices to secure sensitive data.Â
When you can no longer patch system vulnerabilities because support for a product has ended, a breach is bound to happen. Approximately 1 in 3 data breaches are enabled by unpatched system vulnerabilities.Â
Not keeping your technology tools (operating systems, internet browser version, software, mobile device OS, etc.) updated also hurts productivity. A company falls behind because it can’t benefit from advanced features. Incompatibility with newer tools is also a common issue when using older technology.
Below are several technology tools that are discontinued already or soon will be that you should replace as soon as possible.
Windows 7
While most people have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 or 11 by now, there are still a surprising 13% of users that hang onto this discontinued operating system.Â
In some cases, there may be older computers in a company that are only used occasionally while still running this outdated OS. But even if they’re used sporadically, it only takes one connection to the internet for a hacker to exploit this unsupported OS.Â
Windows 7 lost support on January 14, 2020, over two years ago, and it’s very dangerous to still have this on a PC that’s in operation.
Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer (IE) has been going through a replacement cycle for the last seven years, as the newer, younger Microsoft browser, Edge, takes its place. Edge was introduced in 2015, and now has the same base operating system as Chrome.
IE has already been losing cloud app support from platforms like Microsoft 365 (tools by the same company that made IE). It’s losing all support from Microsoft beginning June 15, 2022.Â
If you’ve been hanging onto IE because you have legacy apps that need the browser to work correctly, there is a safer way. The Microsoft Edge browser has “IE Mode” which allows you to use Edge to safely access those legacy sites.
macOS 10.14 Mojave and Earlier
It’s not uncommon for Mac users to keep their machines in operation for 8-10 years. This is because the cost of a Mac computer is high, especially when compared to the many options you get with Windows devices.Â
However, there comes a time when older systems can no longer upgrade to the new Mac operating system. Once the OS the machine is stuck with loses support, the device is at a high risk of being breached through phishing or brute force attacks.
No longer supported versions of Apple devices include those running macOS 10.14 Mojave and earlier.
Adobe Flash Player
Adobe Flash used to be the exciting app ruling the internet. It was used for online games, animated cartoons, and even entire websites. While it may have had its day in the sun, Adobe Flash has now been put out to pasture by Adobe, being discontinued and losing all support on January 1, 2021.Â
You may still have remnants of the Adobe Flash Player on work computers and not realize it. This is a browser plugin, so you would need to remove the plugin from the PC’s browser(s) and ensure all Flash files are removed from the computer.
Microsoft SQL Server 2014
SQL is a popular database framework that is used by millions of companies. If you use Microsoft SQL Server on your on-premises server to run work processes, you need to keep the software upgraded to prevent a breach of your data.
If you’re still running Microsoft SQL Server 2014, then you’re still good right now as the server is still receiving security updates, However, you should start considering an upgrade soon because time is running out.
Mainstream support has already ended for this version, and on July 9, 2024, all support, including security updates will stop.Â
Upgrading a server operating system or migrating to a new, more modern server isn’t something that can be done on a dime. It takes careful planning and plenty of lead time. So, while two years might seem like plenty of time, 2024 will be here before you know it, so it’s best to begin the process now.
