one follow-up note to those researching how to get their own voice boxes tuned: cricothyroid approximation is an older VFS procedure with a much higher rate of complications and less satisfactory outcomes. if successful, it results in permanent falsetto, with the unnatural voice characteristics thereof. it does not recommend this procedure.
keywords related to modern VFS procedures other than the "modified Wendler glottoplasty" mentioned above:
"endoscopic bilateral partial cordectomy with primary closure": synonym for modified Wendler glottoplasty
VFSRAC: glottoplasty variant
LAVA: laser procedure that may be used solo, at the same time as glottoplasty, or as a glottoplasty revision
FEMLAR: laryngoplasty, more invasive, but reduces larynx size as well as changing voice
"trach shave"/chondrolaryngoplasty: reduces larynx size, not a VFS procedure but may be performed at same time (preferred), or during FFS (FFS surgeons are usually not voice specialists and this may complicate later VFS)
