Happy Valentine’s Day! (part three)

Last but not least, Fatin!!! No obscure vintage Valentine’s traditions in this one since flowers and love letters are very popular gifts for this holiday but it still gave me a lot of chances to work with the format. I thought having a canted illustration against the foil paper would look like a letter coming out of an envelope. To tie in with the love letter theme, I learned how to fold (scaled down) letter paper into origami hearts to fill up some negative space.

And since Fatin was decked out in an orange rose outfit, I picked out white, yellow, and orange fabric flowers to frame the image. It looks like it’s blooming across the page or catching fire which felt fitting given Fatin’s powers.

I do hope to post the stand-alone images soon but I hope you all had a lovely and fun Valentine’s day or a relaxing Tuesday! This is a tiny bit late on my end but even so, I had a lot of fun with these!

Happy Valentine’s Day! (part two)

Here is the second part of my mixed-media Valentine's project!

For the second illustration, it felt fitting to use Chandra this time around as one vintage tradition I found said that in Italy, you would give a key to the one you like to unlock your heart. Again, I’m not sure how accurate this is but as France has the Pont des Arts, a bridge filled with locks placed by lovers, and Twisted Wonderland also uses a key motif when summoning cards, I decided to go ahead with keys as a theme. I wanted to use some gold ribbon to add to that Valentine’s day feel but the lace worked a lot better to fit with the lattice pattern of the bridge I made. It was also a stroke of luck that I found some “antique” key charms to sprinkle around the page to tie in that key theme a bit more!

I hope to post the illustrations by themselves later because I really wanted to discuss the outfits a bit more if I could, haha!

Story about scanners under the cut

I cannot get over how much of a silly little guy by scanner is. Turn him on, can't find connection. Set him on a nice little flat surface, he hums. Cannot find connection. Cradle him in my lap, feel him rumble like a cat as he scans, action complete.

He has anxiety and wants to be held.

Then I had to adjust the colors for an hour cause my boy is color blind.
