@olnfweek2024 : Day 3 (Crossover/Memories) (plus my first fanfic!)
-----

Crossover: Avis participating in the Italian Formula 4 Championship!
It might be embarrassing, but I don't really play anything outside of sim racing and other racing games (and OLNF, apparently)—mostly because those were the only ones I bothered to spend money on!
Still, I wanted to incorporate stuff I truly enjoyed into my art. And that's how we ended up with this—along with this fanfic I wrote! It's actually my first time (creatively) writing, so I know it's not the best—though, I still hope that it's not an affront to literature. Anyways, here it is!
----Racing in Rome----
The light azure of the Roman sky was effectively unbroken by clouds, the sunlight absorbing into the black asphalt of the Vallelunga Circuit. This May Saturday, the modest comune of Campagnano di Roma was made into a particularly festive fever. And no more permeating was the competitive spirit than the team pits: tyre warmers being unwrapped, steering wheels fitted to their columns and Abarth engines buzzing to life.
And in those sitting in their Tatuus chassis, a yellow and green helmet familiarized herself with the form-fitted interior. "And—there, in the striped helmet, is Avis Whistler, the newest driver on the grid, hailing from Milan," a commentator noted. "Though, I believe she karted both in Italy and the United States." added another.
Avis sighed. Qualifying left her disappointed—16th out of 24. It would take a tremendous drive to get herself into the points. She steeled her nerves, flipped down her visor and sped out into the crowded pitlane.
The pit exit light flashing green, the pole-sitter's tyres screeched as the chassis bolted forward. Avis was equally impatient when she trailed 15th.
Even on the formation lap, it was apparent to anyone that Avis's driving style—even if it occasionally sent her kart careenering with a tyre torn to shreds—was aggressive, hounding for the brink between over steering and spinning the vehicle out completely. She pushed her Abarth not one rev below its limit on the straights, braked hard and scrubbed her tyres whenever she could—the numerous hairpins were great opportunities to do so. She'd need all the temperature she could get, after all.
It was only passing Roma that Avis slowed herself, aligning the Tatuus with the grid box. Now, the entire grid—all 24 cars—lay still, four cylinders growling in anticipation. Avis's gloved hands tightened around her wheel as her eyes stared ballista bolts at the overhead lights. Her foot subconsciously put revs on the engine.
Suddenly, a red circle pierced the noon sunlight.
Then two, exactly one second after.
Then three.
And four.
Five.
Then there were none.
And away Avis went—tearing across asphalt lanes with a passion unmatched.
----Fin(?)----
It's really short and the ending's a total cliffhanger, but I think I wanna define Avis's character a bit more before I go overboard with the story-writing!
Still, it was mighty fun! I think I'll keep doing it.
-----

Memories (Bonus): The Trio Out for Lunch!
This was just a fun idea I had in my head when I heard the second prompt—not sure if they'd find this experience the most sentimental in their lives, but I think it's with a thousand more of these momentary polaroids that they really take on meaning.

Both Envision drivers - Sebastien Buemi and team returnee Robin Frijns - will be required to race at the WEC event for Toyota and BMW respectively, meaning that as it stands they will be out of the first Berlin FE race, on the Saturday
Formula E is likely to issue a further iteration of its calendar to confirm the venue for the only current to-be-decided race on the schedule in Italy over the weekend of April 13/14. This is expected to be either Misano or Imola, although a recent simulation study of the Vallelunga circuit near Rome was also carried out.
Additionally, Jakarta being added as a season finale in August is believed to be still possible, meaning that a 17-race billing might be achievable.
But Buemi told The Race that he “still has not lost hope [the WEC clash will disappear] because I know things will change again when they publish [a calendar update] in November".
“I was quite happy to see that we don’t have the clash with the prologue [WEC test in Qatar, which was initially set to be on the same weekend as an end-of-February FE date] and Le Mans tests [now free of the scratched Jakarta race]."
Buemi suggested reducing Berlin to a single race and making Portland a double-header would be a logical change to ensure no direct clash between Berlin and the WEC's Spa race.
-
Another driver who is likely to be in the frame for a drive at Envision is Tom Dillmann, simulator driver for its powertrain supplier Jaguar.
Ex-Dragon-Penske driver Joel Eriksson has also served as a test and reserve driver for Jaguar. The firm is expected to announce its full wider 2024 FE driver line-up before the end of this year, which will make Envision's potential fallback plans clearer.
Other drivers that could be affected may include Abt Cupra’s Nico Mueller, who may be held to racing for the Peugeot WEC team at Spa.
Abt is expected to call upon the services of Kelvin van der Linde, who subbed for an injured Robin Frijns in three events last season, to deputise.
FE is expected to take precedence for Norman Nato, Jean-Eric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne, while the situation regarding Mahindra's FE returnee Nyck de Vries remains unclear as he is expected to also be racing for the Toyota WEC team in 2024 but has yet to be officially announced.

Italy Formula E race moves from Rome to Misano
Rome circuit unsuitable for electric car race. The 2024 Formula E race in Italy will be held at the Misano World Circuit near Rimini, after Rome was dropped and Vallelunga failed in its bid to host the event, organizers confirmed on Wednesday. Last month it was announced that Rome’s EUR district was no longer suitable for the faster, more powerful Gen3 cars which were constrained by the “narrow”…

Isotta Fraschini WEC Hypercar team completes first run without a hitch | World Endurance Championship
The Isotta Fraschini team, which aims to participate in this year’s World Endurance Championship with its new Hypercar, says it has successfully completed a two day run of its Tipo 6 LMH machine. The historic Italian manufacturer whose team is operated by Vector Sport – which already runs an LMP2 entry in the championship – completed a two-day test at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy over Tuesday and Wednesday. Michelotto Engineering test driver Maurizio Mediani was at the wheel. The team intends to join other LMH entries to WEC this year – Ferrari, Porsche, Vanwall and Cadillac – which have arrived to compete against existing manufacturers Toyota, Peugeot and Glickenhaus. However, Isotta Fraschini have only been permitted to join the championship on a race-by-race basis, rather than a full season entry. The team will not compete in June’s Le Mans 24 Hours but may have the opportunity to compete in this year’s championship in the later rounds. That effort will have been boosted by the team completing its first run with its new Hypercar, the Tipo 6. The team reported on social media the two-day test had been completed “without a hitch”. Its motorsport managing director Claudio Berro said the team’s first laps with its hybrid system passed without issue. “The first time of our car with wheels on the asphalt is obviously an exciting sensation for everyone,” said Berro, “starting with the technicians who built it who were present and thus finally saw it on the track. The team completed two days of running “For all of us it was a good moment also because the day went according to plan, with major stops to fine-tune the car and analyse the data. I would say the last few laps with the hybrid system activated completed the first day with satisfaction for all.” Vector Sport team principal Gary Holland said he hoped the team’s successful run would help their bid to join the championship in the later rounds of the season. “The first roll-out of the test car that went relatively trouble-free and that’s very impressive,” Holland said. “We’re now looking forward to get the performance-running done and hopefully the homologation process, looking forward to the race-by-race entry until the end of the year. “I hope the ACO [Automobile Club de l’Ouest – Le Mans organisers] can see the effort and the trajectory we’re on and can grant us the entry, so we can go and compete against the other LMH teams.” The second round of the WEC season, the Six Hours of Portimao, takes place this weekend at the Autodromo do Algarve circuit in Portugal. Take a Test Drive in the Lamborghini Huracán STO
The Huracán STO, a road-legal super sports car developed with the know-how of Lamborghini’s Motorsport team Squadra Corse, could finally be presented where it feels home: on the racetrack.
After its digital premiere in November last year, also the test drives had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Now it was time to finally put its qualities to the test both on and around the Circuit in Vallelunga, near Rome.
The feedback on the Huracán STO was positive all-around. The naturally aspirated V10, the overall setup of the super sports car and the Bridgestone Potenza Race specifically developed for this car have a clear focus: absolute performance and emotions for the driver.
One year of the production for the Huracán STO has already been sold out - before the opportunity to test-drive it.

First Look: The Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo
The new 488 Challenge Evo has made its debut during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali underway at the Mugello Circuit. 3 years after the presentation of the 488 Challenge during the Finali at Daytona, Ferrari has developed a kit that increases the car’s overall performance and its consistency in race conditions, and also improves the handling for even better feedback and driving pleasure.
The aim of the Evo package is to maximize the synergy between aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics - that is, the interaction between tires, balance of downforce and electronic controls. Better performance is guaranteed by higher downforce and new Pirelli tires, while driving feedback was addressed from the early stages of development using Ferrari’s GT driving simulator, revising the aero balance between the axles. To improve turn in and reduce understeer out of corners, in fact, the downforce over the front has been increased.
The aerodynamic balance 'dialogues' with the E-Diff3 and F1-TCS control systems based on the Side Slip Control (SSC), which offers new dedicated settings. The SSC concept, which is based on the estimation of the yaw angle, has been modified in view of the new levels of performance. This has made it possible to provide the control systems with a common language designed to maximize agility in cornering and traction on exit.
The proven collaboration between the technical department and the Ferrari Styling Centre resulted in a comprehensive redesign of the front of the car to ensure an increase of 30% in aerodynamic efficiency compared to the 488 Challenge. The length of the front overhang has been altered to boost overall downforce and optimize the balance. The profiles of the radiator grille intakes have been lengthened and, at the center of the bumper, a U-shaped intake feeds the front brakes and underlines the 488 Challenge Evo's sporty character. In the lower part of the bumper, a large splitter with turning vanes at the ends improves the control and direction of the airflow from the side vents. The sides of the bumper have been re-proportioned by reducing the surface volume to allow the adoption of a second side flick, improving the quality of the airflow. The car thus has 50% more overall downforce than the current 488 Challenge.
On the flank, below the rear-view mirror, there’s a new small wing with endplate designed to divert air flow towards the intercooler. The rear, on the other hand, includes clear references to the FXX-K. The sides of the bumper feature an extremely aerodynamic surface with two vents to extract the flows generated inside the wheelarches. Below the rear spoiler, a new air vent set in the engine air outlet grille increases downforce. There is also a new nolder on the rear wing that produces an increase in the coefficient of downforce.
The 488 Challenge Evo introduces a first for the Prancing Horse's one-make series: the option to modify the front downforce independently of the rear, so that the driver can set up the balance without having to change the ride height. The driver can select different configurations ranging from high downforce to low downforce before each race, depending on the circuit's characteristics and the weather conditions. These developments ensure an increase of more than 20 percentage points in the downforce over the front axle compared to the 488 Challenge.
The braking system includes a number of innovations that maintain its performance over a race. In particular, there is a significant reduction in brake wear thanks to the adoption of a new front disc design and larger rear discs.
New Pirelli tires - 275/675-19 (front) and 315/705-19 (rear) – have also been introduced. During nigh-on seven months of development, the new tire was tested not only in the laboratory but also on the new car at various European circuits, including Vallelunga, Mugello, Le Castellet and Silverstone. As well as seeking to boost overall performance, these tires also ensure greater consistency in lap times during a long run session.
The interior, with its decidedly racing character, features a conceptually different kind of steering wheel, developed from the experience gained with the FXX-K Evo and the 488 GTE, which triumphed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. The steering wheel, with integrated paddle shift, significantly improves ergonomics so the driver can always keep their hands in an ideal position, bringing advantages in terms of visibility and control of the car’s systems. There is a new ABS management strategy incorporated in the manettino. The driver can select four different modes, two dry and two wet, which implement a strategy focused on performance or stability.
A new rear camera derived from the 488 GTE has been introduced in response to feedback from the participants in the championship's various series (Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, along with last year's addition of a new UK national series). This considerably improves rear visibility.
The new components and improvements introduced with the 488 Challenge Evo are also available as upgrade kits for existing cars.

Lamborghini Urus Performante (2023): diabolical 666 hp on test!
The toboggan of the Vallelunga circuit looks like a roller coaster. Between two turns, a brief glance at the digital dashboard indicates the values of 1.4 G under braking and 1.3 G laterally with the optional semi-slicks. These Pirelli Trofeo R, whose rubber mixture is even softer than a Label rouge rib of beef from Aubrac, reach a hundred degrees on white-hot asphalt, while the huge ceramic…
