I wanted to explore my first world I ever created in Minecraft, but without all the new terrain generation. So I located the seed, found the version of Minecraft I began with, and created a new world.

Apparently I have been playing since version 1.1. And it’s so weird. It’s like coming home again after a long while. It’s also jarring seeing how backwards things were back then too.

In this version of Minecraft you can’t switch to Creative Mode, you can’t even type in the chat. The hunger depletes SO fast that just walking for a few minutes has me on death’s door. The lighting system is garbage and undersides of mountain terrain is just pitch black. There’s no auto jumping. The villagers are Testificates with gravel roadways. There are just random holes everywhere.

But the weirdest thing is that I had built 4 separate homes in the game. After I had done enough in one spot I would venture out to find another and setup a new base. But going back to this old world I’m realizing… these bases were literally only a few chunks apart! The render distance was so bad that at the time each base was obscured by the fog!

I’m also literally dying of hunger right now. Hunger deplete so quickly and starts killing you if it gets too low. I don’t want creepers to spawn and destroy the land as I try to load chunks by exploring, so I’m having to hide in the water during the nights because no enemies spawn in water.

It’s kinda hilarious how much you are punished for trying to explore. All I want to do is load up enough chunks, but even the “far render distance” is so low that I need to wander a LOT just to cover the area I used to play in. And if I want to venture out beyond that? Wow… it really makes finding biomes and towns really exciting. Not at all like modern Minecraft where you can go for days without eating and you’ll be fine.

it’s wild hearing people talk about stardew valley before ginger island was a thing. honestly it’s wild to think that i played this game for years before ginger island existed. also, it’s wild to think that starting today, there’s a wealth of new content that i will probably wonder how i lived without years down the line.

I hope Indigo Park changes the sprint button for controller because holding down the L Stick is not it for me, it made my hand cramp during the Mollie chase and now my wrist is flaring up (I know I can change it in settings but I don’t want to reconfigure my whole controller)
