The 7th member
-
(G)-IDLE. The group that always has bold concepts, each song made with an idea and a goal. The group that aims to prove Talents over Visuals to change the KPOP industry. Time and time again they prove it successfully. The group that started 4th gen. There's Soyeon the leader and producer who has been making songs for for (G)-IDLE long before they were even a group, Minnie who is considered the Siren voice of KPOP, Miyeon who is known as the princess of the group, Soojin who is considered the mom of the group, Yuqi who is known as Giant Dog Yuqi and the most social one, and Shuhua who is known as the boss baby of the group. But what about the 7th member?
The 7th member who caught the public’s eye from debut. She was recognized for her dancing skills and participating on a certain survival show. On this survival show it's where she met Soyeon and became close to her since not only did they come from the same building but they became closer on the show. She always had a certain vibe of sexiness to her since she debuted. If they weren't talking about her dancing they were talking about her Vocals. She had a sensual voice and it seemed to fit any concept no matter the song she was singing, but when she spoke her voice sounded more on the deeper side but not like Yuqi's. The complete opposite can be said when she raps. Her voice sounds deep and not sensual but more like a certain Dreamcatcher member.
The 7th member who revealed she can speak multiple languages. Despite being Korean she didn't become fluent in it til she was 16. Her first language is Chinese because she is not just Korean but also Chinese. She was shy as a kid so she often taught herself other languages as a way to pass time. She grew up in Wuhan, China despite being born in Busan. She moved to New Zealand with her sisters for 2 years which is where she learned English. She moved back to China due to home sickness. She can Speak Chinese, Korean, English, Japanese, Spanish, Thai, Vietnamese, and French fluently.
The 7th member whose older sister is a famous actress who has starred in multiple K dramas, C dramas, ad movies. Her other older sister is known as TWICE'S 10th member. Her cousin is no other than BlackPink's Jennie on her mom's side.
The 7th member who is close friends with AESPA'S Karina. The 2 girls would be seen together at award shows, coffee shops, or just hanging out. The 2 would also promote each other's groups as well as be in each other's Instagram comments. It seems as though the girls aren't as close as they once were since they no longer will be seen together in public, rarely comment on each other's posts, and only smile at the other at award shows.
The 7th member who was asked who's her ideal type of guy and she instead answered with. “you mean my ideal Person because guy makes it sound like only one person when its not just guys I love.”
The 7th member who once made cupcakes for each of the members when they debuted along with little notes on how proud she is of them.
Kim Sooyoung, The 7th member of (G)-IDLE.

I hope you guys can enjoy this series, please be nice about it

Let's talk about that one token Vietnamese mission in Cyberpunk 2077. It's cultural appropriation.
How do you know this is cultural appropriation? Pretend the character is American. If the story still works in exactly the same way, then it's cultural appropriation: our culture never even mattered.
Culture is meant to be shared, but appropriating our culture without a sliver of understanding on what, and who we are, is just unethical. Lemme explain and it's gonna be a long post.
Mission Summary
So basically it's a cyberpsycho mission about 2 sisters who are reality show celebrities like the Kardashians and one of them turn cyberpsycho after a really horrible "prank" gone sour. One sister drugged the other, put her in a coma, besmirched her looks by giving her clownish implants, and steal her fiance after she was humiliated by that sister in the past due to a similar equally mean-spirited prank. The cyberpsycho found out and killed her sister, her husband, and a lot of people, including the crew, at their wedding. Everything is scripted except for the real deaths. The physical and mental damage done to them was also real.
Sounds kinda ok, typical American reality show and exploitation in the show business. All are good until you realize the sisters are Vietnamese.
Problem Checklist
Reality TV shows aren't that popular in Vietnam. We do have a few shows here and there, and all of them are concepts bought from America, for example, Next Top Model, Masked Singer, and The Voice. And you can see from those 3 most popular shows that they are talent shows, not family feud shows. Vietnamese people don't watch family feud reality shows, and tho we might know of the Kardashians for their scandals and makeup, we don't watch them. Generally, we don't really have that reality show culture here. This is a very American thing. Additionally, such anti-family values, hyper-individualism, and anti-tradition sentiments as of the Kardashians usually will get censored and denied by the government.
The whole story doesn't sound like anything I've ever heard in Vietnamese media or real-life stories. We have our fair share of family feuds and love drama tropes, but this is not it. We are a communal society as opposed to individualism. This means we tend to avoid direct conflicts and over-the-top gestures. Couple that with a high-context communication style, conflicts and solutions often come in the form of scheming, indirect influence, psychological warfare, long term, and done in a group. Not to say the thing in the mission never happened ever, but it's not typical of Vietnamese culture.
Sure, the characters are Vietnamese diaspora in the US so they are influenced by US culture. Even so, this is not a relatable story for the Vietnamese diaspora, there are a lot more relatable and impactful stories than this for the Vietnamese diaspora. More on that later.
"It's not typical Vietnamese means it subverts stereotypes and it's creative. This is a different view that you just don't understand because not all Vietnamese are the same!" It subverts so hard it's unrecognizable by a Vietnamese. Sure people's experiences are diverse and the Vietnamese people are diverse and there are a lot of interesting new ways to write our experiences. But this story is nothing really new, creative, or interesting? Sisters backstabbing each other and fighting over a man on a reality show for clouts and it backfires is just an American drama trope. You can see this trope on Mean Girls, the only 2 Vietnamese girls there is exactly like this, and the actresses doesn't even speak Vietnamese. Why not just write them as Americans? Because the fact that they are Vietnamese contributes nothing to the story. If anything, it feels degrading because Vietnamese people are turned into exploited laughing stock for the Americans.
Furthermore, it IS stereotypical. The name of the reality show is Saigon Sisters. It evokes the image of Saigon queens or Saigon call girls, ie. exploited sex workers in South Vietnam during the American Resistance War (aka Vietnam War as the American calls it) who serve the colonizers and the puppet government officials. Believe it or not, Vietnam is not that war-torn, colonized, underdeveloped, and humiliated state. We are a culturally rich country with thousands of years of history bravely fighting off all the superpowers in the world. We have skyscrapers, we have highways, and our cuisine is arguably one of the most diverse and delicious cuisines in the wort. So it's interesting the devs decided to go with a stereotypical name that carries a sense of misogyny and colonialism with it. I doubt this is a conscious choice to portray colonialism, considering all of my other points proving that they don't even know who we are.
They got the name wrong. There is no excuse for this. The sisters' names are Dao Hyunh and Linh Hyunh. The first names are correct, Đào (anglicized as Dao) is not a common name but it exists; Linh is a very common name. The last name Hyunh is wrong, Huỳnh (anglicized as Huynh) is the correct one.
In conclusion, if replacing the character's ethnicity with American does not affect the story in any way, this representation is incredibly bad. I really prefer they have not mention us in the first place.
What It Should Have Been?
First let's talk about the common themes in the stories of Vietnamese culture. I take inspiration from the presentation by a wonderful artist Stephani Soejono (ig @stephanisoejono) and others in Xiran Jay Zhao's compilation video essays of analysis did by South East Asian people on the movie Raya & The Last Dragon.
Strong communal aspect: clash of expectations from community to individual's dreams and passion, conflict avoidance, friendships and family relations.
Living close with nature and the philosophy of go with the flow: Unexpected things happen but adapt to the environment and situation, embracing the negative because its yin and yang to make balance.
Supernatural and Spirituality: Fated meetings, coincidences, the unchanging wheels of fates, spirits and demons, shamans and witches (who are not feared but respected), deities and saints. One of the most interesting worldbuilding aspects of Cyberpunk 2077 is the blurred line between Spirituality and Technology, so there could have been so much to explore here.
Based on the above mentioned, I can easily come up with many interesting, relatable and impactful stories
A person who acted disrespectful towards a family, religious beliefs or a Vietnamese shrine and got hexed to turn into a cyberpsycho. (You will hear stories of this everywhere in Vietnam)
Vietnamese Shaman got possessed by daemon from beyond the Wall.
Vietnamese immigrant struggling to adapt and survive in America and couldn't take the pressure anymore. (Just ask any immigrants)
Overachiever kid who are pressured by their parents to be perfect student and perfect citizen, they use implants to be more perfect and finally snaps under the pressure and become cyberpsycho (I can assure you, this actually happens a lot irl, source: I am one; also search for the case of Jennifer's Solution)
and so much more!
Conclusion
I know this is mission is quite passable and small compare to the grand scheme of things, but it can't help but pisses me off. Asian representation is already a rare thing and rarely done well in western sphere, let alone South East Asian, let alone Vietnamese representation. I'm not even gonna repeat the affect of misrepresentation and under-representation in the power dynamic between western superpowers and a small country like mine. I am not unfamiliar with how most countries especially in Europe and American sees us, they still think we are this fragile, poor, rural, colonized and war-torn country like 50 years ago. This is reflected in how we are portray in the few and far between instances in western media especially Hollywood. For a studio based in Poland, a country with a relative good relation with Vietnam and a large community of Vietnamese diaspora, this is a piss poor portrayal of our people.
The Vietnamese market is probably too small for you to even care, and it's true that most Vietnamese player doesn't even give a shit. But it does not mean no Vietnamese care, at least I know I do. And this is not a new phenomenon, this has been happening for forever in western media, and someone's gotta tell people about it.
Let's end this extremely long and angry post with some beautiful images of my country. On tumblr, you can find a lot more of beautiful images like these curated by the blog @lotusinjadewell. And I'll be creating a personal blog to post my photos I took of my home country soon so there!

Replaying Nancy Drew without cheating - Part Four: The Final Scene
Tumblr media
AND HERE IT IS....
Is The Final Scene the MOST brilliant game in the entire Nancy Drew series??
Hear me out. It has literally everything you could ever want out of a Nancy Drew game. Danger. Mystery. A ticking clock. A lack of pointless chores. An intriguing backstory. An amazing soundtrack. An extremely sassy Nancy. A caked up Nicholas Falcone.
I think the ONLY thing that is missing from this game, honestly, is length. I think it is well-known in the community that this game is too short, especially on replay, but I recently learned that this was the first game that HerInteractive put out on a 2-a-year schedule, so the development was rushed. After TRT, the company almost could not afford to continue making games, so they had to switch strategies. Technically, FIN saved the franchise. In that context, the only disappointment is that they didn’t have more time to work on this absolute MASTERPIECE.
Tumblr media
I also think my love for this game has grown after reading the book that it’s based on. Queen Simone Mueller was adapted from a boring male Simon Mueller, the talented Louisa Falcone was adapted froma boring male Louis Falcone. The Harry Houdini storyline was completely new in the game. Brady Armstrong having a vested interest in the theater demolition was also new in the game and made him a much more interesting and sinister character. I know that this book was written in the 80s, but Bess’s one-dimensionality (obsessed with food and boys) annoys me; much happier to see Vietnamese-American college student as the kidnapee instead.
Not cheating in this game was super easy for me. It’s another game I’ve played a dozen times, so even if I didn’t remember the exact sequence of events, I quickly was able to move the game along. I finished in under 3 hours, and that is with being consistently distracted by the NFL game my fiance had on in the background. Having three distinct days makes this game very sequential and hard to get stuck.
Some random thoughts I had during this replay:
1. Someone put this soundtrack on vinyl, PLEASE. I would literally murder someone to play this in the background while reading a book and smoking a joint on my couch.
2. Even as a child, I loved Nicholas Falcone. There is just something about a man with a passion. Nothing used to turn me on (still does turn me on) than Nicholas’s intellectual negging of a dim-witted Brady Charmstrong during the press conference. This was also the first time I really took the time to listen to the entire press conference from the ticket booth...pure gold.
Tumblr media
3. Speaking of the ticket booth, taking to Sargeant Ramsay on the phone is absolutely hilarious. Who is this voice actor? Someone find him and give him more gigs. And Eustacia Andropov? An incredible character and a treat of a phone call as well. WHO WROTE THIS SCRIPT?? I think this is probably the funniest game there is.
4. Let’s just go ahead and go through some of the best quotes of the game.  “I may have to cut this short, Hal. Someone just climbed out of my wardrobe.” (entirely unphased) “I think your phone’s about to ring.” “Take a breath and pinch yourself, because it’s reeeally happening: Brady Armstrong, in the flesh. Star of Vanishing Destiny? Go ahead, faint. I’ll catch you.” “Why don’t you tell that little grey troll that I think he did it just to keep himself from dying of boredom in this old dump. THAT’s my comment.” “Fight the power.” (a classic) "Mr. Charmstrong, do you find that your fans respond to you more in your chicken suit or curly wig?" “Maybe you’d better think about being ‘in on the law’ and ‘down with the truth’ Nicholas.” “More? I’m 96 over here. I don’t exactly have time to burn.” “You tell that Sherman Trout Eustacia said, ‘You’re not dead yet, Shermie, so get up and make yourself useful.’” “Armstrong: Uh, do we still like him or what?”
5. Joseph always scared the hell out of me. Even to this day. He is creepy and he IS a little grey troll. Why is he constantly trying to get me to leave the theater and go to bed in the middle of the day? Why is he lying about his brother Jake? Why is he always popping up in the most chilling way possible? I hate him. I suspected him from the very beginning.
Tumblr media
6. When Nancy says that Maya never goes ANYWHERE without her press pass...ma’am you are an undergrad student at Washington University. Please calm down.
7. Not sure if anyone remembers, but back in the day on the HerInteractive message boards people used to put all the games they had finished in their signature for all their posts. Some would just put a list of all the games, but others would get creative (including me, although it wasn’t creativity on my part as much as it was copying other people). Their signature would say things like “I have Stayed Tuned for Danger,” or “I have discovered The Secret of the Scarlet Hand.” FIN’s was “I have seen The Final Scene” and I still to this day say this whenever I talk about this game with anyone. Throwback.
8. I never would have figured out the gum on wand bit if not for the message boards back in the day, and my memory of it now.
9. This is a game that is more about the mystery and less about the puzzles. I loved this one, even though this is probably the hardest part of the entire game (besides the gum on wand thing).
Tumblr media
10. The ending is SO intense. Because I know exactly what to do, it is less so, but the whole thing still gives me goosebumps. That timer in the corner quickly ticking down? Hiding in the closet when the police do their final sweep? Joseph being an absolute psychopath? The focus knob breaking off? The KEYS? MAYA BEHIND GLASS?? TRYING TO BREAK THE GLASS WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER? JOSEPH BEING A PSYCHOPATH AGAIN?? (I can let it slide that defeating the culprit involves flashing them with a cheap prize from an ancient game in a decaying basement. It’s still so good).
11. Also, I have a print of this in my house right now because of this game. I don’t even know the artist, but I love it.
Tumblr media
So thankful to rediscover my love for this game. Can it top Treasure in a Royal Tower and Dexter’s sexy, raspy voice? Maybe not. But it is up there.
Next stop: DC!

Fiction Recommendations: Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month
If I Had Your Face by Frances Cha
Kyuri is an achingly beautiful woman with a hard-won job at a Seoul "room salon," an exclusive underground bar where she entertains businessmen while they drink. Though she prides herself on her cold, clear-eyed approach to life, an impulsive mistake threatens her livelihood.
Kyuri's roommate, Miho, is a talented artist who grew up in an orphanage but won a scholarship to study art in New York. Returning to Korea after college, she finds herself in a precarious relationship with the heir to one of the country's biggest conglomerates.
Down the hall in their building lives Ara, a hairstylist whose two preoccupations sustain her: an obsession with a boy-band pop star, and a best friend who is saving up for the extreme plastic surgery that she hopes will change her life.
And Wonna, one floor below, is a newlywed trying to have a baby that she and her husband have no idea how they can afford to raise in Korea's brutal economy.
Together, their stories tell a gripping tale at once unfamiliar and unmistakably universal, in which their tentative friendships may turn out to be the thing that ultimately saves them.
Fiona and Jane by Jean Chen Ho
Best friends since second grade, Fiona Lin and Jane Shen explore the lonely freeways and seedy bars of Los Angeles together through their teenage years, surviving unfulfilling romantic encounters, and carrying with them the scars of their families' tumultuous pasts. Fiona was always destined to leave, her effortless beauty burnished by fierce ambition—qualities that Jane admired and feared in equal measure. When Fiona moves to New York and cares for a sick friend through a breakup with an opportunistic boyfriend, Jane remains in California and grieves her estranged father's sudden death, in the process alienating an overzealous girlfriend. Strained by distance and unintended betrayals, the women float in and out of each other's lives, their friendship both a beacon of home and a reminder of all they've lost.
In stories told in alternating voices, Jean Chen Ho's debut collection peels back the layers of female friendship—the intensity, resentment, and boundless love—to probe the beating hearts of young women coming to terms with themselves, and each other, in light of the insecurities and shame that holds them back.
Things We Lost to the Water by Eric Nguyen
When Huong arrives in New Orleans with her two young sons, she is jobless, homeless, and worried about her husband, Cong, who remains in Vietnam. As she and her boys begin to settle in to life in America, she continues to send letters and tapes back to Cong, hopeful that they will be reunited and her children will grow up with a father.
But with time, Huong realizes she will never see her husband again. While she attempts to come to terms with this loss, her sons, Tuan and Binh, grow up in their absent father's shadow, haunted by a man and a country trapped in their memories and imaginations. As they push forward, the three adapt to life in America in different ways: Huong gets involved with a Vietnamese car salesman who is also new in town; Tuan tries to connect with his heritage by joining a local Vietnamese gang; and Binh, now going by Ben, embraces his adopted homeland and his burgeoning sexuality. Their search for identity--as individuals and as a family--threatens to tear them apart, until disaster strikes the city they now call home and they are suddenly forced to find a new way to come together and honor the ties that bind them.
Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang
Our narrator produces a sound from the piano no one else at the Conservatory can. She employs a technique she learned from her parents—also talented musicians—who fled China in the wake of the Cultural Revolution. But when an accident leaves her parents debilitated, she abandons her future for a job at a high-end beauty and wellness store in New York City.
Holistik is known for its remarkable products and procedures—from remoras that suck out cheap Botox to eyelash extensions made of spider silk—and her new job affords her entry into a world of privilege and gives her a long-awaited sense of belonging. She becomes transfixed by Helen, the niece of Holistik’s charismatic owner, and the two strike up a friendship that hazily veers into more. All the while, our narrator is plied with products that slim her thighs, smooth her skin, and lighten her hair. But beneath these creams and tinctures lies something sinister.

AO3
Ted settles down in his seat at the Garrick Theatre. He isn’t really sure how people are expected to dress for professional theatre anymore. He sees some people dressed to the nines and others in jeans. He’s glad he went with his trusty khakis. Beard sits down next to him as he takes in the thrum of a live audience.
“Mighty nice of Rebecca to let us tag along.”
“Yeah. Beats staying at home. Have you heard of this show?”
“No. Can’t say I have. Going in blind like those three mice.”
Rebecca and Keeley shuffle in.
“Ted! Beard! Thank you for coming.” Rebecca sits down next to Ted.
“Thank you for the invite.” Ted smiles.
The lights flicker signaling for everyone to quiet down. Ted hadn’t really looked into the show since the invite was so last minute. The only thing the playbill tells him is the title, so he’s excited to see what this is about. A blonde woman sits by herself at a table with a letter in her hand. Their seats are excellent because Ted can see the tears rolling down her face. She laments about someone leaving her and how she felt blindsided. The actress continues to move across the stage removing her wedding ring and wishing she had another chance to see why her husband left her. She has a beautiful singing voice. It sounds familiar, but he knows he’s never seen her before. The lights dim and suddenly a man rushes out on the stage. The music changes completely to something more upbeat with hints of The Fiddler on the Roof (which makes sense when the man explains how dating this woman will hurt his Jewish mother).  He’s very handsome with dark hair and green eyes. Full of charisma. Ted can see why they ended up together.
As the story goes on, Ted realizes they’re telling their stories from two different times. She’s the end to beginning and he’s beginning to end. It’s a fascinating way to tell a story and quite frankly, relationships do feel mixed up like that. Even though both of them are very talented, there’s just something captivating about the woman with her big blue eyes and small stature. Her voice is strong for being so tiny. It almost knocks him back when she roars at her husband for abandoning her on her birthday. Her love tries to cheer her up and give her some hope with a story about a tailor who gets to redo his entire life care of a magical clock. Her letter about her time away is very funny and the actress is absolutely enchanting when she details sharing a dressing room with a snake and missing Vietnamese food while stuck in Ohio. The first act ends with them singing onstage together and getting married.
Ted feels a hand on his shoulder at intermission.
“Oh, Ted. I’m so sorry. I didn’t know this was about a breakup.” Rebecca frowns.
Ted shakes his head.
“It’s okay. I’m not a famous author and Michelle’s not an up-and-coming actress. As far as I know.” He chuckles. “How ‘bout you?”
“I’m fine, thank you. It rings familiar, but I’m glad Rupert doesn’t have any creative talents or he would’ve been insufferable. You sure you’re okay, Ted?”
Ted nods. Keeley stands up so she can join the conversation.
“This actress, yeah? I’ve never seen her before, but she’s brilliant.”
“Great voice.” Beard turns towards them. He leans forward. “You okay?”
“Yeah.” Ted nods. “I never got a ‘Dear John’ letter, well, I ‘spose it’d be ‘Dear Ted’.”
Beard rests his hand under his chin knowing better than to press his oldest friend.
The show starts up again and apparently, after the wedding, the husband develops a wandering eye. He ends up being very successful while she struggles to make it as an actress. His shadow grows bigger and bigger while she shrinks into herself causing a lot of hatred to build up between them. She wants to share in his success but feels like a prop. He just wants his muse back.
Before, he was deflecting a bit, but now Ted can confidently say this story is nothing like his marriage.  Yes, he and Michelle had problems, but he’s never felt anywhere near this level of bitterness towards her. Their marriage just ran its course to its natural end. The actor gives a wonderfully tortured performance about how it pains him to be unfaithful, but he’s so resentful towards his wife he feels he has no other choice. The show ends with a gorgeous song where he sings goodbye to her and leaves the letter while she’s over the moon about their first date fantasizing about their life together. Ted gets to his feet immediately clapping his hands together. It really was a fantastic show.
“So, what’s next, Boss?” Ted asks.
Rebecca looks down at her phone for a moment waiting for something. She lifts a finger.
“Oh! Good! Come with me.”
Ted follows Rebecca backstage. He knows money opens a lot of doors, but he hadn’t expected this. He watches as Rebecca congratulates the actor on his show. The man (who goes by Jeremy) is very pleasant and gracious, but their conversation gets cut short at the sight of his wife and daughter.
“Becca!” The actress yells out before throwing her arms in the air. She’s actually American like her character.
“Natalie!” Rebecca smiles. “You blonde vision.”
“Ha ha.” The woman takes off the wig revealing dark brown hair. “Did you like the show?”
“Your West End debut was brilliant.” Rebecca gives her a hug before looking back at her friends. “This is Keeley Jones. Ted Lasso. And Beard. Everyone, this is Natalie Warren.”
“Thank you so much for coming.” Natalie waves.
“Absolutely. Quite a set of pipes you’ve got there.” Keeley smiles. “I’ve dated a Jamie that was quite a shit.”
“Oh, thank you.” Natalie flashes a smile so bright it makes Ted a little woozy. “Oh, fuck him then. You’re way better than that.”
“Fuck yeah, I am!” Keeley gives Natalie a high five before pulling her into a hug.“Um, Rebecca, where have you been keeping this gem?”
“She’s usually in the States acting her little arse off and heading up the US branch of Letters to Santa.”  Rebecca shrugs and Natalie mimics her.
Her eyes are deep blue like sapphires sparkling under the lights. Ted got so caught up in the story he didn’t realize just how pretty she is. High cheekbones and that smile. He’s never been starstruck before, but now is a good a time as any.
“That Jamie fella shoulda been a lot nicer to you.” Ted stuffs his hands in his pockets feeling too aware of his hands.
“Cathy would agree.” Natalie nods. “Oh, you’re the coach for Rebecca’s team, right?”
“Club,” Rebecca whispers.
Natalie rolls her eyes and looks back at Ted.
“Yes, I am, ma’am.” Ted winks. Wait, why did he wink? That was stupid.
“He rhymes.” Natalie raises her eyebrows.
“Don’t get him started.” Rebecca rolls her eyes.
“So your actual name is Beard?” Natalie turns to face him.
“Yes.” Beard nods and steps closer to her.
“Was that like crazy stressful when you were a kid and couldn’t grow facial hair?”
“You have no idea.” His brown eyes narrow.
“Were you ever scared you couldn’t live up to the name?” She wiggles her eyebrows in a way that makes Ted chuckle.
“Never.”
“Beard’s fearless.” Ted laughs. Suddenly, it hits him like a bus on Regina George. “Princess Cleo!”
Keeley, Beard, and Rebecca stare at him like he might be having a stroke, but Natalie just smiles.
“You’re in the movies about the royal foxes. You’re Princess Cleo.”
“Yes, I am!”
“My son Henry loves ‘em.”
“Is Henry back in the States?”
“Yeah. Kansas.”
“If you’re cool with it, I could say hi?”
Ted jiggles his head doing the math. It’s only 4 pm over there.
“If you don’t mind.”
“Nope.”
He calls Michelle who looks surprised at the call and the fact its FaceTime.
“Hey, Michelle. Sorry. I have a little something for Henry. Is he around?”
“Uh, yeah. Henry! It’s your dad!” Michelle hands over the phone and Henry appears on the screen.
“Hey, buddy. I just saw a musical and I think you know this little lady. Close your eyes.” Ted smiles. Natalie pops her head over his shoulder and Ted ignores the tingle from her breath on his neck.
“Greetings and good morrow, Henry of Kansas.” Natalie grins.
“Princess Cleo?” Henry’s eyes pop open. “Dad, that’s Princess Cleo!”
“I know, big guy. Her real name is Natalie and she’s a stupendous actress.”
“Wow. Mom, that’s Princess Cleo!”
“Hi!” Michelle comes back on screen. “Nice to meet you.”
“You too.”
“Is the next Royal Foxes coming out soon?”
“This summer. You gonna go see it?” Natalie asks.
“Yeah! I hope the King finds out she’s the archer.”
“I’m sworn to secrecy. You’ll just have to see. Now, do you remember this?” Natalie begins to sing the big song and snaps her fingers. She does a kick step and Henry mirrors her while singing along. He’s absolutely blown away. Ted’s touched at how kind she’s being to his boy. She must get this a lot.
“…So don’t stop!” Henry throws his arms out and tries to copy her spin.
“You’re amazing!” Natalie claps.”Listen, Henry, can I sign a picture for you and have your dad give it to you?”
“That would be so cool!! Thank you!” Henry bounces up and down.
“Awesome! It was really fun meeting you, Henry.” She gives him a small wave.
“You too, Princess Cleo.” Henry waves back wildly.
“She said her name was Natalie.” Michelle laughs.
“I wish I was as cool as Princess Cleo.” Natalie smiles.
“I don’t wanna keep any more of Miss Natalie’s time, so I’ll talk to you later, big guy, okay?”
“Bye, Dad! Bye Princess—Natalie. Goodbye!”
“Bye, Henry!”
Ted hangs up and puts his phone back in his pocket.
“You just made me Father of the Year right there. Thank you.”
“Oh, sure. Kids are the best fans.”
“Who are the worst?”
“Really old white men. They call me sweetie and pinch me.”
“Sounds like a real nightmare.” Ted shudders.
Before Natalie can answer, Rebecca steps between them.
“You’re a big star, Nat, so I’m certain you’re very busy.”
“Oh, yeah. Steaming my voice and watching Bake Off. More like you’re busy and you wanna go.”
Rebecca only smirks and flags down a tech person outside the dressing room.
“Pile in for a photo everyone and we’ll head out.”
Natalie and Keeley move to the center since they’re the same height. Rebecca goes on her other side. Ted and Beard flank them at the ends.
After the few photos, Rebecca hugs Natalie.
“You were wonderful, darling.” She kisses her cheek.
“Thank you, big sis.” Natalie steps back. “Ted…”
“Yes, ma’am?”
“I’ll give Rebecca the photo for Henry.”
“Thank you, truly.”
“Have a good night, you three. Thank you again for seeing the show. Nice meeting you!”
Ted gives her a small wave before walking out of her dressing room. His cheeks feel hot and he’s a little lightheaded. He isn’t too sure why, but it feels exhilarating.
Tumblr media
Almost a week later, Ted arrives at Rebecca’s house with Beard for a Christmas party in a hunter green sweater and his only Santa hat. It contrasts greatly with the button-up swirling in red and green Beard wears. He wasn’t sure what to bring since Rebecca is such a great hostess, so he brings a vegetable platter and Beard has a bottle of whisky. Rebecca looks absolutely stunning in a red jumpsuit with gold glittery accents that flatters her impressive figure. Roy, Keeley, and Nate are already there. Keeley has a green frilly dress on and Roy wears his usual black leather jacket and black jeans. Nate keeps things very business with a burgundy sweater vest.
“Shit.” A voice yelps from the hall.
Ted pops his head around to see Natalie Warren tangled up in her black wool coat and the coat tree.
“Lemme help ya.” Ted zips over to her.
“I have no fucking idea how this happened. Jesus, what a mess.”
“Here ya go.” His finger lifts the fabric free.
“Thank you.”
Her burgundy velvet dress swings with every step she makes. It matches perfectly with her cranberry lipstick. She looks striking. The party starts off with awkward chatting especially since everyone knows each other so well and Natalie only really knows Rebecca. She wasn’t able to make the party with all the famous friends because she had a show, so she was invited as a special guest to the AFC Richmond party. She clutches her mulled wine and politely smiles as Nate tells her about his new game plan for after the holidays. Ted catches her eye, remembering she didn’t seem very enthusiastic about football. She gives him a slight nod causing Keeley and Rebecca to exchange a look.
“We should play a game.” Rebecca announces. “But don’t worry there’s drinking. It’s trivia with a little bit of running around.”
“Seriously?” Natalie stares at her.
“Absolutely.” Rebecca nods.
She wobbles a bit when she slips out of her black heels. Ted offers his shoulder to give her balance and she smiles.
“Yanks versus Brits?” Keeley suggests.
“Fuck the metric system! Yay fractions!” Natalie throws her hands up.
“I love getting smashed, but what’s the prize?” Roy asks.
“Losers have to sing on my karaoke machine. The song that’s never been picked,” Rebecca answers.
“Cool.” Natalie shrugs.
For a kickoff, Natalie out chugs Nate and they get to go first. For half the game, they’re neck and neck which means they drink every other turn. To up the stakes, Rebecca decides the floor is lava and everyone has to find safe purchase on her furniture. Natalie hops up on the ottoman at the same time Ted does. Neither of them makes an attempt to move for the rest of the game even if that means Ted has to catch her a few times. Beard makes a great asset to their team and Natalie knows quite a bit about history. Ted tries to help with pop culture questions. It’s the final question. Natalie versus Roy.
“Explain the offside rule,” Keeley says.
“Like I fucking know. I am in theatre!” Natalie barks at Roy.
“It’s okay. Ted coaches fucking football for a living and doesn’t know what offside is.” Roy rolls his eyes.
“I don’t even know what the fuck you’re saying. Are those real words?”  Natalie giggles.
“Stop stalling and answer.” Keeley smiles.
“Um, like one dude is on the other team’s side? And it’s like a penalty?”
“Not quite.” Rebecca puts her thumb down.
“As any of you except Rebecca could hit a high C.” Natalie groans.
“It’s okay. You tried, darlin’.” Ted pats her on the shoulder and completely misses the explanation Roy gives.
“Thanks, Coach.” Natalie doesn’t move his hand.
“The Americans have lost the revolution.” Rebecca sighs with her hands up.
They all come down from the furniture. Ted extends his hand and assists Natalie back onto the floor when Rebecca wheels out her very professional-looking karaoke machine. She plugs into her impressive flat screen and cues up the song.
“Let’s see what we got, huh, team?” Ted says as the music starts. To share the microphone (because Rebecca can’t find the others), Natalie is sandwiched between Ted and Beard. A pop-reggae beat picks up. Ted exchanges a look with Beard whose face is unreadable.
“I don't mind spending some time just hanging here with you. 'Cause I don't find too many guys that treat me like you do.”
Beard begins to swing his hips and it becomes clear to everyone else that the three Americans actually know the song.
“Joke’s on you. It’s a fucking banger.” Natalie rolls her shoulders.
“It’s a good one, ain’t it, Coach?” Ted laughs.
“Best part coming up.” Beard agrees.
“I can make it nice or naughty. Be the devil and angel, too.” Natalie squats down to the floor and pops back up in a perfect slutdrop. Rebecca and Keeley cheer.
With the alcohol taking over, Beard spins her and she’s knocked back. Ted catches her under the arms and she bursts out laughing. He helps her back up and takes her hand in his dancing with the beat while they sing along. Beard gets really into it by the bridge and they share a glance.
“He always gives 100%.”
“Respect.”
The song ends and Rebecca yells out.
“Don’t move, you two!”
“Oi! Look up!” Keeley calls out.
His brow furrows as his eyes travel upward. They’re under the mistletoe because of course they are. Ted raises his eyebrows and Natalie shrugs her shoulders.
“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” Everyone including Beard on the microphone chants.
Ted bends down practically in half because he’s almost a foot taller than her. Their lips meet in a quick peck. She breaks it almost immediately and Ted doesn’t blame her.
“Okay, photos, you fuckers.” Natalie calls out.
They do one of the winners and one of the losers before everyone gets together.  Rebecca sets a timer on her phone. Ted lifts her up a bit so she’s not edged out of the photo since she doesn’t have shoes on and is one of the shortest besides Keeley who is latched onto Roy.
“Yes, perfect. Lend me your height, sir.”
As the drinks continue to flow, they all end up crowding around the single microphone for a very loud cover of Darlene Love’s “All Alone on Christmas.” Rebecca pulls Natalie into her as they sing lead for obvious reasons. Ted christens her with his Santa hat while he does a great air saxophone. Even Roy gets into it because “Who doesn’t fucking love Darlene Love?”
In the argument for the next song, Ted notices they’re down one member and finds Natalie in the hall grabbing her purse from the closet.
“You doing an Irish exit?”
“I think they call it a French exit here.”
“When in Rome.”
Ted watches as she puts on her scarf. He grabs the coat off the tree and holds it out for her to slip her arms into. She murmurs her thanks and fixes her lapels. He plucks the Santa hat from her head and puts it back on. She smiles wide.
“It’s kinda my thing, so Rebecca won’t be mad.”
“Your calling card, huh?”
“I hate goodbyes.”
“You waiting on a ride?”
“Yeah.”
“You mind if I keep you company?”
“Nope.”
“All right. I’m in like Flynn then.” He grabs his puffer jacket.
Nora laughs the same infectious laugh he’s heard all night. He follows her out onto the doorstep. It’s not so cold that they can’t wait under the moonlight comfortably. Snowflakes flurry down but don’t stick. It’s a beautiful night.
“I’m real sorry about that awkward kiss.”
“Yeah, me, too.” Natalie turns to face him and a smirk forms on her cranberry lips. That is some impressive lipstick because it has not budged the whole night. “When I thought about kissing you, it wasn’t in front of Rebecca and her guests."
His ears burn and the heat spreads down the back of his neck as he blushes.
“You thought about kissin’ me?”
Her big blue eyes travel up and down his body.
“And you haven’t? Don’t tell me I’m barking up the wrong tree.”
“No, right tree. Great tree. Great dog. I’m the dog not you. You’re—“
“Ted?”
“Yeah?”
“You wanna just kiss me?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Ted leans down and covers her mouth with his. It’s a sweet simple kiss. She lingers on his lips unlike before and he tastes the cinnamon from the mulled wine. Her perfect teeth nip on his lower lip and he gasps. His hand snakes around her waist pushing her closer as their tongues meet.  She takes his face in her hands bringing him even closer. They break apart for air and he rests his forehead on hers panting heavily.
“Call the Daily Planet cause there’s a new…”
She just stares up at him, waiting.
“Nope. Nothing. Can I kiss you again?”
“Please, Ted.”
His large hand slips inside her coat as he crushes the red velvet against his fingers. Her nails rake down the back of his neck making him moan. She might be the most skilled kisser he has ever had the pleasure of kissing. A horn honks causing them to jump apart. She laughs and shuffles down the stairs. She takes one look back.
“Merry Christmas, Ted Lasso.”
“Merry Christmas, Miss Warren.”
Ted watches as she gets in the car and slips his hands in his jacket pockets. His brow furrows as his fingers rub over something that wasn’t there before. He pulls out a card. It’s Natalie’s business card. Ted laughs. Hmm…he wonders if she has a date to Rebecca’s New Year’s Eve party.

Personality:
With a default expression is a blank frown on his face, Yukiharu may be an apethetic person from other views. And they aren’t wrong. The NRC students often see them as a cold and quiet person, who always appears with a tired appearance. Even if he answers you politely, it seems in his voice that they don't want to talk at all.
They have a habit to be rather blunt at times, even that isn't very nice for other people.
For a student from another world with magic, Yukiharu blends in pretty well among the students. He was quick to understand how the subjects works, and how they were different from his own world.
To strangers, Yukiharu is an expressionless person in a way. Of course they could still express emotions on their face, but people found it strained, forced. He isn't, really. They just can’t understand the concept of human emotions, including himself and that leads to him struggling to emphatise with others. Yet they will try to comfort the Overblot victims, with a crooked smile and a soft voice.
Yukiharu is actually pretty nice. He isn't afraid to help people, in their own ways. Although they couldn't emphatise with them, that doesn't mean he will leave them alone. So he will just keep quiet and help them, because that's the only way he could figure out.

That was until the daughter of the Onizaburo clan, Mirai was tortured and died by the wife of the Shirokami clan representive. Before her death, Mirai put a curse on the Shirokami family which lasted for centuries.
Years later, in a hospital of Ho Chi Minh City, young Yukiharu Shirokami was born. Being the youngest member to endured the curse since his birth.

Yukiharu is mixed between Vietnamese and Japanese.
Yukiharu tends to speak Vietnamese when they get irritated, especially during the Overblot.

"Alright." Penny watched the Vietnamese girl that was addressing her and Violetta with wariness. She had never seen Trang in such a bad mood before. She wasn't sure if she had done something to upset the girl, or if she was pissed off at something else. Violetta on the other hand, looked as though this was a normal occurrence, "So Fury wanted me to make sure that you had an adequate way of communicating with us."
Trang held up very small microchips. "These are not going to last long. They're meant to be imbedded under the skin, right at the wrist. They will dissolve after three months."
"Really? Why?" Penny asked curiously.
Trang scowled and Penny almost instantly recoiled. "Because I believe that people have freedom and don't deserve to be tracked for long periods of time. I was asked to design them for a bad purpose and I hated that. So I made sure that they don't work for long, in case they are used against a person's will."
"Oh, well that's humanitarian of you." Penny said nervously.
"Is it Riri again?" Vi asked with a sigh, holding our her wrist first for Trang to insert the chip.
Trang scowled- if it was possible- even darker. "Gee. How'd you guess?"
"What'd she do this time?" Vi ignored Trang.
"She exists." Trang replied vehemently and then sighed, "She keeps asking if I want help with my Iron Woman suit because she's 'oh so much smarter' than me. Bullshit. She didn't even build her own suit! She just took Tony's design and made some adjustments! And then she brags about how smart she is. She's fucking annoying."
Penny looked between the two of them. "Who is Riri?"
"Oh, you don't know?" Trang asked scathingly. "Everyone knows the fucking brilliant 15 year old genius."
"You're. . . fighting with a fifteen year old?" Penny asked uncertainly and then actually did recoil under the glare Trang sent her.
"She's eighteen now!"
"Trang, don't lash out at Penelope." Violetta sighed, rubbing her arm where Trang had injected her, "Just kindly tell her to fuck off and sit down."
"She said I didn't have talent." Trang snapped, looking frustrated, "Just because I'm Asian I was just born smart. Asians aren't smart! Have you met Lan and Jay? They're fucking idiots! I worked my ass off to build the suit and I was fifteen too! And did I mention she didn't even build her fucking suit?"
"Can you stop arguing with my intern?" Tony's voice came from across the room as he walked in, holding a box of stuff.
Trang scoffed and didn't answer, motioning for Penny to hold out her arm. Penny gave her, her arm hesitantly, not sure she really wanted to have a very pissed off woman insert the chip into the fragile skin of her arm.
But, surprisingly, Trang was very gentle in her movements and besides the pinch of it digging into her skin, there was almost no pain.
Tony looked at Violetta and Penny, "We're not sure what they're going to let you keep and what they're going to take off of you. We're suspecting they'll probably try and drug you two before taking you to the compound, so we've got these pills. They're dispel any sleep inducing agents, but you have to take them before. They last for an hour. And of course, you'll have to feign being knocked out."
"Thanks Tony." Penny said, taking the small bag that contained about five or six pills in it.
"No problem sweetheart." Tony responded, still looking worried as her and Vi put the pills away. "I just wish we could give you weapons or something."
"We know how to make our own weapons out of whatever is there." Violetta said, crossing her arms, "Can we leave now?"
Tony sighed, "Sure. Penny, can I talk to you real quick?"
"Yeah." Penny followed Tony over to the other side of the room and the taller man enveloped her into a tight hug.
"Okay." Tony said, pulling away for a moment and taking a deep breath. "Good luck on the mission."
Penny giggled a little, "Tony, I'm not going to be gone forever. This mission isn't even dangerous!"
"I know." Tony mumbled, "But the idea of a strange man putting his hands on you or you having to be a sex slave for these people, I hate it."
"Well, you know who is going to hate it more?" Penny asked with a bit of a smile, "Violetta. So you can bet that we aren't going to be there for long. I'll be home before you know it."
Tony smiled a little too and then glanced over at where Trang was stalking through the door after saying good-bye to Violetta, "Listen, Penny. Violetta. . . Elizabeth. . . Katya. . . Ghaida, they're all going to be biased in the view of Riri because of their friendship with Trang. But. . . Riri is a good kid. She is smart."
"I don't doubt that Tony." Penny said softly. "I'm sure she is smart, otherwise she wouldn't have gotten an internship here."
"I think. . . I mean, I don't know what it's like to make something and have someone else come out with it first because I was always ahead. But. . . Trang has her own talent and she is just as smart as Riri. In fact, sometimes I would even claim she's as smart as me. I don't want this feud with Riri to screw either girl up and make them think that they're no longer smart, ya know?"
"Yeah. I understand." Penny said softly. "I don't know how to help though."
Tony smiled a little, "Don't worry, I wasn't asking for a solution. Anyways, stay safe please. I love you."
"Love you too." Penny said, reaching up and kissing Tony.
"Oi! Fury! Let's go!" Violetta shouted.
"Bye." Penny said and raced over to join Violetta.
👩‍🦳🛵 𝓽𝐈m€ 𝔰Ќ𝕀ℙ 🥦🐢
"So. . . what all did happen, with Trang?" Penny asked Violetta curiously as they flew towards Detroit.
Vi looked over at her, "Well, Trang has always been an inspired engineer. Course, I didn't actually become friends with her until I was around nineteen or so. But when she was fifteen, she created an Iron Woman suit. But at the same time, Stark was in court and they were going to take his suit because they were afraid that others would make suits like it. But he proved in Court that no one could. Trang, not wanting to get Tony in trouble, decided to hide that she made a suit."
Penny was surprised that Trang went to those lengths, even when she didn't even know Tony personally.
"Anyways, later when Elizabeth kind've founded us as superheroes, she invited Trang into the fold. Trang went on a few missions under the name 'Iron Woman'." Violetta continued, staring out the quinjet window. "It was mostly undercover missions. She was kind've the one who'd hack the cameras and make sure we could get in and out without being spotted."
Violetta drummed her fingers against the seat and then said, "Anyways, that was when Riri Williams became the nations' new Iron Man. Under the name of Iron Heart. She was an intern at Stark Enterprises. It was said that she was going to take over for Tony one day. A brilliant, fifteen year old. And of course, being the racially motivated society we are today, they were promoting her for being a young black woman."
"Nothing wrong with that." Penny said, feeling slightly stung. Even though she didn't look it, she too was a black woman.
"Oh, I know." Vi said with a shrug. "I just didn't like the way they treated Trang later when she joined the Avengers. We had to go through interviews and stuff. For the most part, our faces weren't really put out there. We're not as well known as like Steve or Tony or Loki. But anyways, when the news found out about Trangs' Iron Woman project, they wanted to know more about it."
Violetta pulled up a few news articles on her phone and passed it over to Penny so she could take a look.
"Basically, she was proposed either as a copy cat, trying to copy Riri, or she was believed for making the suit first. Instead of complimenting her, they just said that because she was Asian, it was a no brainer and that probably all Asian people could do it too if they really tried. Some news articles, as you can see there, even went as far as to say that Trang was just trying to steal the glory from the black people."
Penny scrolled through headline after headline of unflattering name-smearing of Trang Tien. "That's terrible. They should never have done this to her."
"Yeah, well." Vi shrugged, "That's why she doesn't do missions anymore. Her Iron Woman suit is to unique. Like, it can be hard to tell the difference between Iron Man and Iron Heart, because the colour scheme is the same. But Trang made hers unique in the colours of blue, purple, and some green in there. So if she attempts missions, they just make fun of her."
Penny felt anger flare up inside of her, "That's not fair!"
"Life isn't fair. I learned that a long time ago." Vi said, and then fell silent for the rest of the trip.
🛺🥰 Ⓣᶤ𝕄€ 𝓈𝕂𝔦ℙ 🥬😘
Detroit was not a fun place at night. Both Penny and Violetta had taken their knock out pills and were now walking the path that all of the other girls had been kidnapped off of.
They were in a run down neighborhood. No lights were on in the houses or on the front porches. There were not street lights either, so the only light that the two of them had was by the stars and moon.
The smell was rank as well. It had rained recently and water had collected in large potholes in the roads. Garbage bags were sitting in the water, wearing out the bottoms of the plastic bags, letting the stale water and old food mix and rot together.
"This is nasty." Violetta muttered, putting her hands into the pockets of her leather jacket. The two of them had dressed to look slutty, hoping to really catch the eye of the sex traffickers. Violetta was rocking black fishnet stockings with a short red dress that just barely covered her ass. She'd put a leather jacket over that. She was also wearing a fake nose ring and head done her hair messily.
Penny was wearing dark jade green as her dress, with diamond cuts across the middle of her stomach. She wasn't wearing tights of any kind, with her feet tucked into small black heeled boots. She'd pulled her long white hair up into a bun with a few curls coming down around her face. She'd played up the makeup and had put a matching brown contact into her blue eye.
"Maybe they're not out tonight?" Penny muttered, wrinkling her nose as well as she skirted a puddle. "Or maybe we're supposed to look more normal and less like hookers for them to come after us?"
The two fell silent when they heard a splash behind them. Penny spun, pretending to clutch onto Violetta's arm in fright, "Did you hear that?"
"C'mon." Vi muttered, pretending to pull her along faster, "Don't worry so much, it was probably just a dog or a cat or something."
The two sped up just a little, keeping their heads down. They could hear something tracking them on Penny's right, but neither of them acted as though they noticed.
Suddenly, three men stepped out in front of them and they both came to a screeching stop.
"Hello girls, can we help you somewhere?" The man in the middle asked. He had a heavy Hispanic accent and was somewhat on the squat side. The man on his right was tall and muscular, with a dark skin tone that probably matched Penny's father. And the guy on the left was probably the same height as Pietro, with shaved sides, and a pink streak going through the brown hair he had piled on top. He was probably as pale as Violetta.
"No, per favore muoviti." Violetta said in an accurately scared tone. [No, please move]
"What'd she say?" The guy with the pink streak asked in a high-pitched voice. It took Penny a back for a second.
"It's Italian, I speak Spanish." The other guy cut him angry eyes. "Italians hot anyways. Grab 'em and let's go. If they're foreign, they don't have family here."
Violetta spun and the two of them went to run, before they were blocked off by two other guys. Penny fought feebly in one of their arms, before she felt the cloth pressed over her nose and mouth. She continued to struggle, knowing that chloroform didn't actually work for a few seconds, before she let herself sag into the man's body and closed her eyes.
She felt herself be carried, listening to the sounds of the now rushed men. She heard the sounds of car doors opening and felt herself being placed on leather seats. She felt rope being tied around her ankles and wrists, before being left alone.
She cracked one eye open and saw that she was in the window seat, with the guy on the other side so he couldn't see her face.
She kept her eye open for the majority of the ride, letting street signs imbed themselves in her mind for when she had to give very clear instructions on how to find the compound.
"Separate them for now." The man ordered as the car came to a stop and Penny shut her eye again. "I'll see to the Italian in the morning. You can have this one."
"Think she's a virgin? We have that Japanese man who would pay double for a virgin." A deeper voice asked.
"We'll ask. Course we might not get a truthful answer." The Hispanic man, who seemed to be the boss, answered.
She felt herself being lifted out of the car once more and waited until she felt herself being laid down in a bed. The door was closed again and she let herself open her eyes. Once she made sure that she was all alone, she lifted her wrist to her mouth, and started to speak.

Reality TV: The impact of drama on the perspective of the audience
The definition
Reality TV is a genre of television programming that documents supposedly unscripted real-life situations and often features an otherwise unknown cast of individuals who are typically not professional actors. Drama is a term that refers to the conflicts, tensions, and controversies that arise among the participants or between the participants and the producers of reality TV shows. Drama is often used as a tool to attract and retain the viewers’ attention, as well as to create a sense of involvement and identification with the characters or the situations.
The purpose of this blog is to explore the impact of drama on the perspective of the audience in the context of Vietnamese reality TV. The perspective of the audience can be understood as the way the viewers perceive, interpret, and respond to the reality TV shows they watch. The perspective of an audience can be affected by various factors, such as the viewers’ characteristics, the social and cultural environment, and the features of the reality TV shows themselves. In this blog, I will focus on one of the most prominent and influential features of reality TV shows: drama. I will argue that drama can have a significant impact on the perspective of the audience in three aspects: emotional, cognitive, and behavioral. I will also provide some examples from popular Vietnamese reality TV shows, such as The Face Vietnam, The Bachelor Vietnam, and The Amazing Race Vietnam, to illustrate my points.
Tumblr media
The impact of drama from reality TV shows
Drama can profoundly impact viewers' emotions by evoking empathy, anger, sadness, or happiness. When viewers witness intense or touching situations in a show, they can empathize with the characters and experience strong emotions.
In Vietnamese reality TV shows, there are various examples of how drama influences viewers' emotions. For instance, in talent competitions like "The Voice Vietnam" or "Vietnam's Got Talent," when viewers see contestants performing with passion and talent, they might feel happy and appreciative. However, when watching conflicts or disputes among contestants in other reality shows, viewers may experience emotions such as anger or sadness.
Tumblr media
In shows like "Vietnam's Next Top Model" or "MasterChef Vietnam," following the journey and efforts of contestants can lead to feelings of empathy and happiness when they succeed, or sadness when they face challenges. These shows often use dramatic storytelling to engage viewers and evoke a range of emotions.
Drama in television shows may also significantly influence viewers' thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes by reinforcing or challenging stereotypes, biases, and values. Through storytelling and character portrayals, TV shows can shape how viewers perceive certain groups of people or specific issues. However, in some reality shows, there might be instances where certain stereotypes or biases are inadvertently reinforced through the editing or portrayal of contestants. For instance, the depiction of gender roles or traditional values in shows like "Vietnam's Next Top Model" or "MasterChef Vietnam" can impact viewers' perceptions of gender dynamics and cultural norms.
Tumblr media
Drama in television can motivate viewers to take various actions such as voting, commenting, sharing, or even imitating behaviors they see on the screen. When viewers are emotionally invested in a show or its characters, they may feel compelled to engage in activities that support or reflect their feelings about the content. In shows like "Vietnam's Next Top Model" or “Sisters Who Make Waves - Chi Dep Dap Gio Re Song", viewers might be inspired to comment on social media, share their opinions, or even try to imitate fashion styles or cooking techniques they see on the show.
The dramatic and emotionally charged moments in these reality TV shows can lead viewers to take action by engaging with the content, expressing their opinions, and even incorporating elements from the shows into their own lives. This demonstrates the significant impact that drama on television can have on viewer behavior.
The conclusion
Overall, reality TV shows have the potential to shape viewers' thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes by presenting diverse perspectives and storylines. Producers and creators play a crucial role in ensuring that these shows promote inclusivity and challenge harmful stereotypes while reflecting the values of a diverse society.
