THE FLOYD PROPERLY CLOSE THE DECADE WITH SOME PROPER PROTO-METAL/HARD ROCK/HEAVY ROCK.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the ultra-exclusive 1970 French version of "The Nile Song/Ibiza Bar" 7" vinyl single by English psychedelic rock band THE PINK FLOYD. It is notable for being released as a singlensolely in the countries of France (1970), Japan, and New Zealand in 1969/1970 under the Columbia and Harvest labels. Sleeve 📸: C. Rose.
OVERVIEW: Both ""The Nile Song" was written by Roger Waters, sung by David Gilmour, omits any keyboard work by Rick Wright, and was included as the second song from PF's 1969 album "More," the soundtrack to the film of the same name.
PART II: "Ibiza Bar" was also primarily written by Waters, and features a similar chord structure to "TNS," but features a notably smoother production and the presence of Rick Wright on keyboard duties. Both tracks are among the two of the heaviest songs the band ever produced in their existence and have been described as proto-metal, heavy metal, acid rock, and hard rock in their sound.
TRACK LIST:
1A.) "The Nile Song" - 3:20
2B.) "Ibiza Bar" - 3:05

Hello Y'all. While digging through the unsorted treasure chests at Revilla Grooves I pulled a copy of this 1968 Little Eva Harris - "Get Ready - Uptight" b/w "Mr. Everything" (Spring Records cat. SK704). And yes, this is the same Little Eva of "The Loco-Motion" fame. This amazing two-sider has a pounding, funky mash-up of "Get Ready" and "Uptight" on the A-side. Although Ms Harris' vocals are perfect the drumming on this track is incredible. On the B-side is powerful Soul song filled with emotional vocals, a spirited chorus, and the band sounds like it is on the edge of exploding. Sticking with Spring, I picked up two more two-siders. Richard Barbary - "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" b/w "Get Right" keeps the same late 60's Soul meets Funk groove going. One of my most hated beats in a song is a marching beat and they are smart enough to avoid it opting for a heavy 4/4 into a funk groove. The flip continues the head nodding feel with shared vocals with deeper compliment that launches into a celebratory chorus. Leroy Randolph - "(I Have Fallen Into) The Tender Trap" b/w "Good to the Last Drop" The A-side is a tender ballad with an almost Christmas feel from the piano and backing that sounds like the bass is singing HO HO HO. On the flip is where the power is. Opening with a very cool off beat break the song pounds into a Soul vocal over a moving groove that pauses at the choruses but eventually brings back the break. Mr Randolph's vocals rides above it all with a positive and exciting smile in his vocal. Please join us for Sunday Matinee, December 18 from 6 to 10PM at Low Fidelity - 328 Palisade Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307 And remember, if you don't like what you hear, wait a few minutes and we will be somewhere else entirely. @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #AllVinylAllTheTime #VinylRules #Punk45s #Funk45s #Jazz45s #LowFidelityBar @lowfidelitybar #JerseyCity #JerseyCityHeights #JCHeights #SundayMatinee #PinballDJBooth #RevillaGrooves @RevillaGrooves #LittleEvaHarris #LittleEva #SpringRecords #RichardBarbary #LeroyRandolph https://www.instagram.com/p/CmUc7mdORUt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

While working at Finyl Vinyl in NYC I would regularly deliver J., at Louise & Jerry’s, a “must have,” record . We began DJing off the end of the bar there and this turned into a record swap concept that we carried over to D.C’s Tavern. We may have had one before this date at D.C.’s but the earliest I found was a simple graphic poster for November 2003. We scheduled two or three swaps per year and some were pretty impressive events including bands, a regular rotation of D.J.’s and food. Sellers varied from actual dealers to bar regulars wanting to get rid of records they owned or acquired from family. The food was as much a draw as the records. We regularly had bar-b-que but sometimes went a bit overboard like with the Turducken. That’s right, a turducken is when you shove a chicken into a duck’s ass and then those two into a turkey. It was bizarrely delicious. I did a poster for each event which eventually became the wallpaper of the far side of the bar. I did some of my favorite illustrations and lettering for the black and white designs which are brush and ink with some pen for stippling. Hopefully you were there with us, if not, these posters may give you an idea of what you missed. #PatJamesLongo #brushandink #penandink #pencildrawing #pencil #stippling #graphicdesign #illustration #drawing #sketching #sketches #sketchbook #comix #lettering #typography #branding #brand #logos #logodesigns #logodesigner #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector @dcstavern #dcstavern #DCsTavernRecordSwap https://www.instagram.com/p/B9dH7CKHA_M/?igshid=1lckrydaiqzbh

This First Thursday, September 5th, at D.C.’s Tavern we will not just have one guest, but TWO. Three heads are always better than one, right? It's the King Ghidorah of DJ sets. There may be a common theme throughout but I doubt it, but that is what makes life interesting. TomDash was known for his DotDash party in Brooklyn and is now a regular on WFMU. He describes DotDash Radio with TomDash as, "DIY music for the spirit; bummer jams for happy people; terrestrial music for space travelers; punchy, post-punk jitters, synth drones for the mindful; fuzz-drenched, basement rock to sooth the soul…" CollectorScum a.k.a. Justin Frohwirth has regularly spent the night at D.C.'s playing the rarest and best Punk rock 7-inches the walls have ever absorbed. His collection is one of the most focused and impressive I have ever seen and we are lucky when he takes them out of his studio. BUT, he is considering a major life change, so let's see how things play out. I will say it every time, the patrons of D.C.'s are easily and without a doubt the most patient and tolerant audience. I have played records from every section of my collection and barely a complaint. See you there! Hello Y'all, thank you to everyone who came out to the first Sunday Matinee. Our next Sunday Matinee at Low Fidelity in JC Heights is TONIGHT... July 17th from 6PM to 10PM. I wish we could say this was planned, but the DJ coffin slides perfectly under the illuminated pinball machine face which makes it look like the coolest pinball machine ever. We didn't fully appreciate it until the lights were dimmed. Tonight's selections feature the aforementioned Cadet Set, plus I will be navigating the all over the genre map of 45's including Punk, Hard Rock, New Wave, Mutant Disco, Garage, Soul, Funk, Disco, Hip Hop, R&B, Modern Soul, Bizarre Instrumentals, Jazz and Funk Instrumentals, Latin, African, Jamaican, Brazilian, and stuff that falls between. Please join us for Sunday Matinee, July 17 from 6 to 10PM at Low Fidelity - 328 Palisade Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307 #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #AllVinylAllTheTime #LowFidelityBar @lowfidelitybar #JerseyCity #JerseyCityHeights #JCHeights #SundayMatinee #Instrumentals #Soul, #Funk Jazz #Punk #HardRock #Latin #Brazilian #Jamaican #RandB #HipHop #African #CadetRecords #GarageRock #NewWave #MutantDisco #PinballDJBooth https://www.instagram.com/p/CgHxuvwuViT/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello Y'all, in early March 2020 I wrote this to introduce myself to the patrons of Low Fidelity in Jersey City Heights...days later the entire world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Hello Y’all! This First Thursday, April 2nd, at D.C.’s Tavern… wait… where the fuck am I? HELL YEAH! I am one block from my house at Low Fidelity Bar! Hi, my name is Pat. I like to play records." DC's Tavern in Hoboken, where I DJ'd for its entire existence, had only recently closed and I still had A LOT of records I wanted to share. The good folks at Low Fidelity reached out and asked if I was interested to continue the night with them. I jumped at the opportunity but that opportunity had to wait. During the pandemic I was unable to DJ or play my drums which left me a little dead inside. I also "left" the miserable job I took after the company I worked for for seventeen years was purchased by a really miserable company. OH yeah, and to add insult to injury , my bike was stolen. The pandemic really sucked and recently took with it my friend Howie Pyro. In March of this year friend, family member, and long time DJ partner Chuck Daly passed away. Both Howie and Chuck were very influential, and inspirational to my listening, learning, and enjoyment of music and I miss them everyday. Recently Kent from Lo-Fi said we are ready to start. For the summer months we are doing one Sunday a month from 6PM to 10PM. During the Fall and Winter we will ramp it up with some of my favorite DJ's holding down a Sunday of their own. This box has been sitting idle since March of 2020. Hi, my name is Pat. and I love playing records, welcome to, "SUNDAY MATINEE!" Please join us Sunday, June 26 from 6 to 10PM at Low Fidelity - 328 Palisade Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307 #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #AllVinylAllTheTime #LowFidelityBar @lowfidelitybar #JerseyCity #JerseyCityHeights #JCHeights #SundayMatinee #Jazz #Funk #Soul #RandB #HardRock #ProgRock #PowerPop #GarageRock #Punk #HardcorePunk #Instrumentals #LatinMusic #AfricanMusic #JamaicanMusic #WorldMusic (at The Heights) https://www.instagram.com/p/CecIa-uusD1/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello Y'all, sometime in the late 80's / early 90's I began making mixed tapes of the Funk 45s I was picking up. At the time it was becoming apparent that there were some deep Funk 45s recorded in every corner of the country. A friend already had the comps that came out in the early 80's so I had a good basis for digging using them as checklists. One of the things I love is that some of these earliest cuts are still cheapies. Others I have never even seen a copy of, B'wana "Chapumbambe" for example. A few things eventually pushed it into overdrive; Mr. Fine Wine's WFMU show, Across 110th St on WKCR, meeting Phillip Lehman who became a regular at the shop, the guys at A1 (Aldo and Stephen), and of course regular visits to the Roosevelt and other record shows. One of the best digging sessions happened over a few weeks when Larry The Junk Man got in about 100 crates of unsleeved 45s. Condition varied but most were VG+ or better. I marked each crate I completed before Larry moved them to the store. The Cold Grits and Sons Of Darkness came from there. I made a Spotify list from the tapes but unfortunately many of the tracks are not available which does make some of the transitions seem odd but I was impressed with what was available (link in bio). #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #Funk45s #MixedTapes #7inches #Soul #Funk #Latin #Instrumentals #cheapies https://www.instagram.com/p/CWgSYe_Je8b/?utm_medium=tumblr

Frank Little O'T.B.L.'s - "Filling Up The Bucket" (Part 1 & 2) (Green Bank Records cat. L220 (23 North Harrison Street, East Orange, NJ)) "You can get up and dance and do it clean…” I know people are proud of their home state, city, block, etc but Jersey can sometimes get weird because our loyalty is usually in the form of deffensiveness. I have the most visceral reaction when I see a record is from Jersey. It is hard for me to pass them up… no matter how bad it may be. I walked into Revilla Grooves to drop off some records for trade. Darren asked me if I knew this, nope. I always start with the B-side of a two-parter and I was hooked immediately But, little did I know the A-side is where the action is. Half the A-side is the introduction and a nice break. "We are happy to have here on the set tonight a band called TBI (sic). Yes indeed, and I hear these fellows are definitely together so we not going to talk too much we gonna start something. They going to do a tune called, “Filling Up The Bucket.” Now, with filling up the bucket you know every body has to have a beginning or to get the thing, so it can become... umm full. So we gonna start it with a guest drummer named Joe Amadeo, and he’s gonna take the introduction. Joe give us one of those get together things, now c’mon baby lay it on us…” One of my favorite moments is that while the gentlemen is doing the introduction, you can hear another man telling a joke, "Bartender give me two kilos, one to kill her and one to kill me, HAHAHAHA” Jersey! #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #FrankLittle #FrankLittleOTBLs #FillingUpTheBucket #GreenBankRecords #EastOrange #NewJersey #Funk45 #Funk @revillagrooves https://www.instagram.com/p/CPPUsv2MSa0/?utm_medium=tumblr

For this First Thursday, June 7 at D.C.’s Tavern in Hoboken New Jersey, I will be bringing many of the records that I have purchased from Stan’s Square Records over the years or was given to me by Stan. As I have said before, I was a regular but as I look back I should have been far more regular. I only purchased 7-inches during the recent digs. Those three days, at the shop, also told me that as much as I loved sitting with Stan, listening to his stories, and shooting the shit I should have set aside some time for digging. I shouldn’t have been as amazed as I was, but what was in, under, behind, and between the bins, was impressive. There were records every where. In the last two hours of Sunday’s dig I asked Justin and Jeff, “Where haven’t you seen people spend much time?” (Keep in mind every record was moved around by Justin and Jeff so Justin could do his thing and sort the entire store.) They said, “In front of the counter.” So dig I did, and walked away with another 25 records. I even witnessed a very old, very dedicated digger, pass out, bleed from his mouth and when rested… he immediately began flipping records! It was scary, crazy and all I could think was, yeah, I’d probably do the same thing. Come check out my finds, have a drink, and spend a little time with Stan. #stanssquarerecords #catamountrecords #stankrause #catamount #jerseycity #doowop #soul #randb #hiphop #funk #vinyl #vinylrules @primitivesoundsystem #primitivesoundsystem #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #recordcollection #recordcollection @collectorscum @fleamarketfunk @pat_byrne @dcstavern #dcstavern #FirstThursdays #AllVinylAllTheTime #AllVinylAsAlways

R.I.P. Little Richard - Richard Wayne Penniman... The Innovator, The Originator, and The Architect of Rock and Roll. My Dad was the perfect age to be a first wave Rock fan. He turned us onto all the amazing early stuff that became a basis of our Rock listening. Bo Diddley and Little Richard defined that listening and understanding of what it means to be Rock-N-Roll and not just a sub genre of R&B and Blues. Bo Diddley gave the sound it’s structure and Little Richard gave it the look, the attitude and the concept of pushing to the extremes. Screaming vocals and his trademark, “WOOOOO!” filled the songs with attitude as he pounded his piano with the kind of aggression that became familiar in 60’s Garage, Punk and Hardcore. One of his later LPs is titled, The Explosive Little Richard which is probably the best and most apt description of his style and being. Robert and I loved turning people onto his later Funk stuff which is just as amazing as his earlier recordings. His music and influence will be with us forever. #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #LittleRichard #RichardWaynePenniman #TheInnovator #TheOriginator #TheArchitectofRockandRoll #RockNRoll #RandB #Soul #Funk #SpecialtyRecords #WarnerBrosRecords #BrunswickRecords https://www.instagram.com/p/B__kx_rpKW9/?igshid=1qhnnlq5w097i

Curtis Knight - “U.F.O.” (Golden Sphinx cat. GSX 003) Curtis Knight has made some amazing and diverse music throughout his career. 1966’s “Hornet’s Nest” with the Squires (featuring Jimi Hendrix) is one of the best instrumentals I have ever heard…and sadly do not own. Down In The Village released in 1970 combines Hard Rock and Funk and is a personal favorite. He formed Zeus with “Fast” Eddie Clarke before he joined Lemmy in Motorhead. In 1965 while on tour with Hendrix and The Squires in Woodstock, NY, Knight clams to have been saved while stranded in a snowstorm, when a UFO suddenly landed in front of them. An alien appeared, melting the snow, and warmed the car enough to free it, and kept them from freezing to death. Hendrix makes mention of UFOs in his songs but nothing compared to mind-blowing tale of alien abduction, and dancing found here… “I KNOW SOMETHING YOU DON’T KNOW, CAUSE I TOOK A RIDE IN A UFO.” Obviously Curtis is going to tell us a story... "LOOKED INSIDE NOW I KNOW THAT A UFO IS A HIGH FLYING DISCO! THEY'RE DOING ALL THE DANCES, IN THE UFO, YOU SHOULD SEE... GET DOWN!” This is just crazy enough to be amazing and the simple groove throbs along making it a nice head bobber. #primitivesoundsystem #vinylrules #vinyljunkie #vinyl45s #RareRecords #recordcollection #recordcollector #CurtisKnight #CurtisKnightAndTheSquires #JimiHendrix #FastEddieClarke #Lemmy #UFO #Disco #HardRock #Funk #Groove https://www.instagram.com/p/B-xCNoXJ0e7/?igshid=1q1exomfqqz8d
