In a world that thrives on social connections, I've often found myself on the fringes, not because I lack the capacity to connect but because I've chosen a different path. I don't have many friends, and honestly, I'm better off this way. It's not a lamentation but a celebration of the richness that a minimalist social life brings.

A few years back I met a friend in college who moved to China. A testament to the idea that true connections can transcend borders and time zones. We share insights and laughter, despite the miles and the occasional language barriers. This friendship, though distant, is profound and enriching.

On Xbox Live, I have a circle of virtual friends. These digital warriors and strategists form a community where we bond over the thrill of gaming, share victories and defeats, and escape into realms where imagination reigns supreme. Here, friendships are forged not by proximity but by shared passions and the joy of the game.

Of course, there's my girlfriend, Alice, who lives in Milton Keynes. Her presence in my life is a beacon of warmth and understanding. While our relationship might not conform to the traditional definitions of proximity, it thrives on the depth of our connection. Alice is an artist, a soul brimming with creativity and passion, and she adds a vibrant hue to my otherwise tranquil palette.

The absence of a large social circle has given me something rare and valuable. Time. Time to immerse myself in my passions, from the intricate beauty of vexillology to the immersive worlds of gaming, from the historical depths of mythology to the artistry of photography. It’s in this solitude that I find clarity and creativity, allowing me to be a better version of myself.

I've discovered that the quality of connections far outweighs the quantity. A few meaningful relationships, a handful of shared experiences, and the love of someone special are enough to fill my cup. I've found strength, independence, and a profound sense of self-worth in solitude.

Being alone has a power that not many people can handle.

In a society that often equates social abundance with happiness, I stand as a testament to the power of a simpler, more focused life. I don't have many friends, but I have everything I need.
