Sleepless Nights
Tumblr media

Try as you might to fade off to sleep, you can’t do much more than stare at the ceiling.
In an event nearly as rare as a cool day on Mustafar, the Bad Batch had returned to Kamino for a brief stay. Though the visit wouldn’t last long—just enough time to refuel and restock—you now find yourself staying overnight in the Batch’s barracks. Since you’ve become their “de facto” Jedi General, they were kind enough to clear some space in their very cluttered room so that you had a place to sleep on the couch by the window.
And, as considerate a gesture as that was, the stiff Kaminoan furniture fails to bring you the same comfort as your bed in the temple.
Sighing quietly, you loll your head to the side, making out the room in the faint light. Unlike you, it seemed all five of your companions slept soundly. Tech had passed out, datapad in hand, while Echo slept bundled under a dozen blankets in his makeshift hammock. Hunter’s long hair was a complete mess, and Crosshair was about as quiet and stiff as a corpse. Wrecker, in contrast, snored so loudly that you weren’t certain how any of you ever got any rest. But even with how loud he was, the other four had all managed to lapse into their dreams, getting all the rest they needed before you were to set out in the morning.
So even among the odd ones out, you were odder, still.
Wearily, you rub your eyes, turning away to look up at the window. Little drops of rain flecked against the transparisteel, and watching them roll down eased your mind. When you were younger—back before the war—rainy days on Coruscant were something you looked forward to. Your master would kindly allow you to stay in for the day, trading your studies for many hours spent reading with a hot cup of tea at your side. Though you couldn’t enjoy such luxuries anymore, the rain still brought you a warm feeling of nostalgia… a comfort that could rarely be replicated.
It makes you wonder if such a feeling could be the cure for your insomnia.
With one last glance at your companions, you gingerly shed the blanket you’ve been resting under. Careful not to make any noise, you step into your slippers and get to your feet. Though the chilly temperature of the Kaminoan facilities isn’t exactly pleasant in your shorts and tank top, you grab your blanket and power through it. Having spent as much time on Kamino as you have during the war, you’ve found a few places that you like to run off to every now and then—and you know that the spot you have in mind will make powering through the cold more than worth it.
Carefully, you tiptoe through the piles of electronics, mementos and trophies that litter the Batch’s room, making sure not to disturb a single thing as you make your way to the door. When you reach it at last, you let out the breath you’d been holding. With one last peek over your shoulder to ensure you haven’t disturbed any of your friends, you open the door—closing it just as swiftly when you’re on the other side.
Though they remain lit in a blinding white, the halls of Tipoca City are largely empty at this hour. You’re more than thankful for that, since you can’t imagine the looks you’d get walking around in your pajamas. You wind through the corridors, eventually making your way to a secluded elevator. When you enter, the door closes behind you, and you’re lifted up to your destination.
The elevator releases you into a small, quiet room with a large overhang and a window open to the elements at the far end. You would describe it as a “viewing deck”, but it was unlike the Kaminoans to build anything for sentimental value. Even still, the room served such a purpose for you, and that was good enough. You walk inside, and the room darkens as the elevator door shuts behind you. Only the ambient glow of the grey, stormy night over Kamino remains, and you couldn’t appreciate it more.
You roam a bit closer to the exposed window, and just as the cool breeze strikes you, you stop. Gently, you take a seat on the floor, facing the open sky. You deeply breathe in the smell of the rain, filled with memories of better days. The raindrops strike against the metal roof, and for a while, you simply sit in silence. Bundling your blanket around your shoulders a bit more tightly, you pout—though you feel more relaxed, it seems sleepiness is still not in your stars. It’s frustrating to say the least, and you can’t help but sigh.
You wonder if you’ll ever be able to rest tonight.
After a short while, something catches you by surprise. Without warning, you hear the quiet hum of the elevator doors. You’re nearly worried that the Kaminoans have come to chastise you for sneaking off into some secret lab of theirs. But when you look over your shoulder, peering through the yellow glow of the elevator lights, you see…
Tumblr media
WRECKER
… the large frame of Wrecker, who stumbles into the room.
The poor thing’s eyes switch between half-lidded and fully closed, and it’s clear from the way he wobbles as he walks that he isn’t fully awake. However, that fact obviously hasn’t dampened his resolve to find you—something that you find all too adorable.
“Wrecker?” you call to him. In the sweetest way, he perks up when he hears your voice.
“... little tooka?” he grumbles, referring to you by the adorable nickname he’d given you when you first met. Rubbing one of his eyes, he tromps over to where you’re sitting. Before you can say another word, he plops down beside you, swiftly burgling you into his lap. You giggle in surprise—more so when he wraps you up tight in his big arms.
“Wrecker…!” you beam, wriggling in his embrace until you’re able to kiss his cheek. “What are you doing up, handsome? It’s late!”
Wrecker heaves a heavy sigh, keeping you snug in his embrace.
“You… you were gone…” he murmurs, rubbing his cheek absently against your head as he speaks. “Missed you…”
His voice trails off into a quiet hum, and he sets a gentle kiss on your temple. You’ve always enjoyed being in Wrecker’s embrace—short of being a Wookiee, he’s the biggest and cuddliest man in the whole galaxy. But with the war going on, you often find yourself hugging him when he’s wearing his cold, hard armor.
Tonight, however, he has no gear to speak of. With him in his blacks, you aren’t separated from him by a layer of plastoid-alloy composite. You can feel the warmth of his broad chest beneath the soft fabric, and his muscular arms make you feel safer than anything. He gives you soft butterfly kisses all over your face, lazily petting your head. You smile softly—he treats you just as kindly as he treats his Lula.
“I’m glad you came up here, but… you didn’t have to come looking for me, handsome,” you assure him. “I would’ve come back to the barracks eventually. I was just feeling a little restless, is all.”
Wrecker nods slowly, though with the way his eyes are firmly shut, you have no doubt he missed every word you said.
“Yeah, uh-huh…” he mumbles. He pauses for a moment, drawing a deep, steady breath. “... I love you so much.”
With a bright smile, you kiss his cheek. “I love you, too, Wrecker.”
Those words, in particular, manage to break through his sleepy haze. He dons a big grin—one so sweet you can’t help but giggle.
“I just wanna hold you like this forever,” he sighs. For a moment, his eyes open, and with the sweetest, meekest tone, he asks, “Will you always be my little tooka?”
Your heart aches with overwhelming affection for your poor, sleepy sweetheart. Gingerly, you drape your arms around his neck, drawing him in for a long, loving kiss—one that you hope tells him you’ll always be his better than words ever could.
When your lips part, he smiles again, bumping his nose awkwardly against yours. You laugh, giving him one last quick peck.
“Wrecker… as long as you stay this sweet, I’ll always, always be your little tooka,” you assure him, resting your forehead on his. “And nothing will ever change that. I promise.”
Overwhelmed with love, Wrecker lets out a big, happy sigh—cuddling you even closer against his chest.
“Little tooka… you’re the best girl in the whole galaxy,” he hums with the utmost contentment, “I love you so much, it… it’s not even funny.”
Though you smile at his outpouring of affection, you find yourself yawning for the first time that night. Something about the way Wrecker holds you so close, the rhythmic way his fingers run across your scalp, the warmth of his body against the cold of the stormy night…
Against all odds, you think your sweetheart is just the one to coax you off to sleep.
The two of you sit quietly for a short while, exchanging sweet nothings to one another as the rain turns from a churning storm to a gentle shower. When your eyelids feel about as heavy as Wrecker’s, you look up to him with a smile, setting your hand on his cheek.
“Well, sweetheart… we should probably head back to the barracks,” you whisper. “We don’t want the others to think we’ve gone missing when they wake up.”
With an obedient nod, Wrecker gets to his feet—carrying you in his arms all the while. Just as tired as he was when he came up to find you, he hobbles back to the elevator, though not without a kiss on your forehead along the way.
Wrecker carries you all the way back to the barracks, and though you expect him to lay you back down in your spot on the couch, he instead keeps you in his arms all the way to his bunk. Even as he retreats back under his covers, he holds onto you, making sure you’re snug as a brindlebug when he settles down at last—and in Wrecker’s arms, how could you be anything but?
With you cozy against his chest, Wrecker smiles down at you, giving you one last kiss on the forehead.
“Goodnight, lil’ tooka,” he whispers, “I love you.”
With a bright smile, you nuzzle your head into his neck as you wrap your arms around him (well, as close to “around him” as your arms can reach).
“Goodnight, Wrecker… I love you, too,” you answer.
And at long last, you fall asleep—finally comfortable in the arms of the sweetest boy in the galaxy.
Tumblr media
ECHO
…Echo, whose bright eyes soften when you meet them. Though he clearly came to find you, he looks almost shy as he enters the room, stepping softly as he approaches your side.
“Mind if I join you?” he asks, rubbing the back of his neck.
You smile. “Of course, Echo.”
Reassured by your words, Echo takes a seat to your right, heaving a long sigh as he stares into the storm pouring over Tipoca City. At first, he keeps quiet, as though not wanting to interrupt your peaceful silence. But when you lean your head on his shoulder, batting your eyes at him with a kind smile, he finds his courage.
“Can’t sleep?” he guesses.
With a lazy nod, you sigh.
“Yup. Just couldn’t keep my eyes closed,” you lament. “Usually, listening to the rain helps me get tired, but even that’s not working tonight…”
Echo chuckles. He wraps his arm around your waist, drawing gentle circles on your side with his thumb.
“Yeah… I’m right there with you,” he says. “If it’s not nightmares about Skako Minor, it’s Wrecker’s snoring. Either way, I’m lucky if I can get any rest.”
You flash him a sad smile, dotting a quick kiss on the corner of his mouth as a means to share your sympathy. With all he’s endured, you know just how hard Echo has had to fight on and off the battlefield to keep himself afloat. He’s told you time and again how much your love helps, and you hope he knows just how happy you are to give it.
“Well… I guess we’re in good company, then,” you smile, nuzzling your face further into the crook of his neck.
Softly, he presses a kiss to your forehead.
“Yeah… insomnia isn’t half bad with you around,” he chuckles. After falling silent for another moment, Echo hums quietly. “You know, back in my old battalion, my brothers and I had a game we’d play whenever we were up late and trying to pass the time.”
“What’s that?” you ask with a tilt of your head.
“We would take turns naming as many planets as we could think of. If it was your turn, and you couldn’t name a planet, you lost,” he explained. The ghost of a smile formed on his lips, his gaze falling as memories of brothers long passed warmed him. “We used to go for hours. I don’t know that I ever won… half the time, I’d fall asleep before we even got to the end.”
The thought of young Echo, diligent and tenacious, spending long hours racking his brain for the name of just one more planet sent you into a fit of giggles. Echo’s smile warms beside you.
“What?!” he demands, hand squeezing your hip playfully.
“Nothing, nothing,” you insist. “I just can’t believe how cute you are, sometimes.”
Though a blush fills Echo’s cheeks, the bashful grin he wears below it lets you know your little compliments are working.
“Heh… I know you’re just trying to get my guard down so I might go easy on you,” he teases. Playfully, you raise an eyebrow at him.
“Oh, go easy on me?” you scoff. “I spent years memorizing planets at the temple. You should be hoping I’ll go easy on you.”
Echo rolls his eyes, though the smile never falters on his lips.
“All right, then…” he chuckles. He pauses for a moment, as if he really needs to think about how he plans to open. “... Coruscant.”
“Wow; bold choice,” you snark, earning a chuckle from him. “How about… Kamino?”
“Raxus,” he returns immediately.
“Mandalore,” you shoot back.
“Ryloth.”
“Naboo.”
The two of you go back and forth, on and on, for what feels like hours. Given the number of planets you name, it probably is hours. Echo hadn’t been kidding about his experience—as many hundreds of planets that you know of from your studies at the temple, he seems to know even more. In a strange way, it’s really charming. Being able to name a thousand planets probably has next to no real-life applications, but it speaks volumes of that competitive spirit hidden in Echo that you admire like nothing else.
Eventually, the quickfire pace the two of you had kept up at the beginning slows to a crawl as fewer and fewer planets come to mind. You have to scour the farthest corners of your memory in hopes of remembering anything.
“...oh! Hoth!” you manage. Echo swears under his breath, and you laugh. “You can give up any time, you know. I won’t gloat too much.”
With a fierce grin, Echo’s brow furrows. He seems to focus harder on this than on anything he has in his whole life.
“...Endor,” he says. When you don’t answer for a moment, Echo turns his head to you, finding a coy smirk on your lips. “...what?”
“I’m pretty sure Endor’s a moon,” you answer.
Echo’s eyes go wide.
“What? No way,” he spits. “Are you sure?”
“Pretty sure,” you repeat.
“Well… maybe it’s both!”
“Or maybe you just don’t want to admit you lost.”
“No, it could definitely be both!”
The two of you look into each other’s eyes for a long moment.
“... Tech would know,” you both say in unison.
As soon as the words leave your mouths, you both burst into laughter. You rarely have the opportunity to spend time like this anymore—just the two of you enjoying one another as people, admiring all there is to love about one another. But as you settle down from your giggling fit, enjoying the sight of Echo’s warm eyes as they gaze back at you, you thank the stars for every moment you have with him.
And you see fit to thank him with a kiss—one he eagerly returns.
When you pull away, the soft smile on Echo’s lips warms you to your core. He doesn’t go far, leaning into you as his forehead touches yours.
“You know… whenever those games didn’t work, or whenever I was alone… I had something else to help me get to sleep,” he confesses.
“Oh?” you ask. “What?”
He bumps his nose affectionately on yours, almost hesitant to share.
“Well… on those nights, it always helped to think about you,” he whispered.
The gentle tone of Echo’s voice kicked your heart into overdrive. With a bashful grin, you abruptly pull Echo into your arms, squeezing him so tight he can barely breathe.
“Oh, Echo…!” you coo. “When did you get so sweet?!”
Echo chuckled sheepishly. “Heh… sometime between nearly dying and now, I guess.”
Holding onto him for dear life, you can’t help the weariness that overcomes you. When a quiet yawn escapes your lips, Echo smiles.
“Finally tired, huh?” he asks.
“Mmm-hm,” you hum. Your weary eyes find his, filled with affection. “Thanks to you, handsome.”
Echo’s smile softens. Gently, his scomp link lifts your chin, and he offers you one last loving kiss before getting to his feet.
“Come on, then. Let’s get back to bed while we still have time to sleep,” he says. Once he’s standing, he offers his hand down to you, helping you to your feet all the same.
Hanging on Echo’s arm, you walk to the elevator, working your way back to the barracks. Once you settle back onto the couch, and Echo into his hammock, Echo reaches out to you. With a warm smile, you take his hand. Fingers intertwined with his, you finally drift off to sleep, warmed wholly by the love you share.

TECH
…the glare of Tech’s goggles against the dark room. You squint as your eyes adjust, shielding your face with one hand until the elevator doors close.
“Tech?” you call out as he makes his way over to you. “What are you doing here?”
He takes a seat beside you, perfectly casual.
“Looking for you, obviously,” he replies. “And now, I’ve found you.”
Without missing a beat, he produces his datapad in his hands, idly tapping away on it without a care. You find a smile on your lips—he’s nothing if not predictable.
“Looking for me? Aw, Tech,” you coo. “Were you worried?”
Tech hums. “Worried? Not so much. As a Jedi Knight, you are more than capable of defending yourself—far better than I could, I am sure. No, I was merely wondering where you had run off to. And why.”
You sigh softly, hugging your knees close to your chest.
“Well… I’m just a little restless tonight, that’s all,” you explain. “It happens every once in a while, I just can’t sleep. No idea why.”
“Hmm. I see,” Tech says. Not even bothering to look at you, Tech slides closer to your side. He wraps his free arm around you, beckoning you to rest your head on his shoulder as he knows you love to do. You smile, obliging him gladly—even if he does not show it in the way others might, he is still perfectly affectionate. “It could be any number of things.”
“Like what?” you ask.
He adjusts his goggles, clearing his throat quietly before he speaks again. Your eyes can’t help but drink in his every little action. The two of you have been close for some time now, but even before you expressed your feelings, you’d grown so fond of all of his mannerisms. Just watching Tech be Tech calms you like nothing in the galaxy.
“Barring more severe medical conditions, insomnia can result from a number of different causes—many of which are, regrettably, found in our typical living conditions,” he explains. “For example, disturbances in the form of loud sounds can prevent or disrupt someone’s sleep…”
“Wrecker?” you interrupt, causing him to glance at you. When he sees a small smirk on your lips, he matches it.
“Precisely,” he nods. “In addition, bright lights can disturb the brain’s circadian rhythm. Which, er…” He pauses, glancing warily between his glaring datapad and you. Awkwardly, he tilts the screen away from your face. “...sorry.”
With a laugh, you shake your head. “It’s okay, handsome. You were saying?”
Tech nods curtly, before continuing to list more and more of the conditions that might be affecting your sleep. The more he talks, the longer he rambles, you find yourself leaning further and further into him. Something in the way he speaks has you captivated, soothing you like a lullaby. He articulates himself so wonderfully, every consonant he strikes sending shivers through you.
It isn’t long before Tech catches on to the way you cling to him. He tilts his head curiously.
“Is something wrong?” he inquires. With a lazy smile, you shake your head.
“No… I just like listening to you talk,” you murmur.
Tech blinks, looking uncharacteristically flustered. “You do?”
“Mmhm,” you sigh. Batting your weary eyes at him, you lean forward just enough to kiss the corner of his mouth. “Will you keep talking, handsome?”
“W-Well… what about?” he asks.
You shrug, shutting your eyes again. “Whatever you want. Maybe ways to help me cure this little bout of insomnia?”
Tech looks over you with such fondness, eyes soft on you as you nuzzle your head into his shoulder. With a kind smile, he sets his datapad down beside him. He surprises you when he repositions himself, laying his legs out flat and allowing you to rest your head on his lap. Though you look up at him with uncertainty, he meets you with a kiss on your forehead.
“I would be glad to enlighten you, my dear,” he smiles, his voice now just above a whisper. “It is funny you should mention it. For some people, white noise is helpful to induce sleep. Things like the sound of the rain, or…” He pauses, awkwardly clearing his throat. “...or someone’s voice.”
You beam up at him, and he smiles shyly back at you. Gentle and sweet, his fingers begin to trace all along your head, soothing you with every last touch. Your eyes flutter closed, utterly lost in his attention.
“Hmm… does it work extra well if it’s the voice of the sweetest man in the galaxy?” you murmur, a teasing smile on your lips.
“I would not think so,” he answers. “But, if I am the man you are referring to, I am inclined to give my best effort for you.”
You chuckle. “Of course I’m referring to you, Tech. I love you, you know…”
Opening your eyes just as long as you can manage, you gaze up at him with the overwhelming affection in your heart. Gently, he cups your cheek with his hand, pressing a delicate kiss on each of your eyelids.
“And I love you more,” he answers, not a hint of doubt in his voice. “Now, just relax. I will take care of you.”
Never have you trusted anyone more than you trust him. With a nod, you close your eyes again, fully submitting to Tech’s care. His voice and his touch relieve your every worry, and before long, you finally find yourself drifting off at last.
You sleep with a smile, his kind words carrying you to your dreams.

CROSSHAIR
… the piercing gaze of none other than Crosshair. When his eyes find you, his usually stern expression softens just slightly.
Wordlessly, he crosses the room, quiet as a lothcat. He approaches you from behind, sitting down and pulling you between his legs. You giggle as his lithe form all but engulfs you, his chest against your back and his chin atop your head. When his arms snake under yours and wrap around your waist, you rest your hands on his, falling fully victim to his embrace.
“Well, hello to you, too,” you smirk. “Did you miss me?”
Crosshair exhales sharply.
“Hm. Not really,” he replies, though you can hear the grin on his lips.
You lean further into him, nuzzling your head into the crook of his neck.
“Aww, not even a little?” you press him.
Crosshairs grip on your waist tightens. He squeezes your sides just enough to make you squeak.
“Not in the slightest,” he fibs.
With a warm smile, you sigh into the cold night air, perfectly content in Crosshair’s arms.
“Well, I missed you… and I’m happy you found me,” you assure him.
He hums a quiet affirmation, before the two of you fall silent, enjoying the gentle ambience of the storm. You can think of very few people you’d feel so comfortable with in this situation—any other silence would beg you to speak and dash it away. But with Crosshair, you feel no obligation to talk for talking’s sake. Neither one of you had much patience for people who just liked the sound of their own voice. No, you two could communicate more than effectively without a word.
And with how he holds you now, you fully understand the depths of his love for you.
The two of you remain in comfortable quiet for quite some time, until at last, the gentle purr of Crosshair’s voice meets your ear.
“Can’t sleep?” he murmurs.
Sighing, you nod. “Mmhm.”
“Hmm.”
He falls quiet again. Idly, his nimble hands trace along your waist. You let them roam—you would never point it out to him, given how sensitive he can be, but you’ve grown quite fond of the way his hands seem to trace you when he holds you like this. He has so many little quirks, and you’ve come to appreciate all of them in your time together. It’s what makes him the man you love, after all.
“You should take my bunk,” he says.
“Hm?” you ask. “Then where will you sleep?”
“On the couch. Obviously.”
With a pout, you crane your head to look at him, only to find him already gazing back at you. The way he looks at you always draws a blush to your cheeks—it’s so intense, so sincere… you never feel more safe, nor more vulnerable. “Sweetheart, I’ll be okay,” you promise. Gently setting your hand on his cheek, you smile. “I can fall asleep eventually. You don’t have to give up your bunk just for me…”
Crosshair huffs—that cute little sigh he heaves whenever you argue with him.
“It’s fine. Between Wrecker and the storm, I wasn’t getting much sleep, anyhow,” he assures you. “Besides, you need the rest more than I do.”
You raise an eyebrow. “Hey, I’m a Jedi, remember? I can last a lot longer without sleep than you can.” Your gaze softens, and you run your thumb along his cheekbone. “And you never get a good night’s rest. You deserve it, Cross.”
Despite your affectionate words, Crosshair frowns. He narrows his eyes at you, before closing them entirely. With a weary groan, he presses his forehead against yours.
“Love, can you please stop being so stubborn just this once?” he grumbles. “I know it’s hard for you, since it seems your favorite thing to do is argue with me. But please.”
Now it’s your turn to frown. You bump your nose against his.
“It’s my second favorite thing, thank you very much.” Tilting your head, you kiss him softly, pulling away with an emphatic ‘mmwah’ to his utmost embarrassment. “That is my favorite. But okay, you win. I’ll take your bunk.”
For a moment, he seems satisfied, the slightest grin creeping onto his lips. He leans in to kiss you again, but before he can, you speak once more.
“If…”
Crosshair’s brow furrows. “If what?”
“If you sleep there with me.”
Immediately, his eyes go wide. You feel his body tense up around you, and he rears back just slightly. You know it isn’t the prospect of sharing a bed with you that has him so worried—the two of you have more than grown familiar with each other by now. Rather, he fears those who will awake to find you sharing a bed together: his brothers. If there’s one thing Crosshair cannot stand, it’s giving anyone the upper hand on him, even for something like a little teasing.
Cupping his face in your hands, you meet his gaze with warm eyes.
“Hey,” you assure him, “if they say anything, I’ll beat them up. Okay?”
Crosshair utters the softest chuckle, the ghost of a smirk on his lips. Begrudgingly, he sighs, setting his hands on yours before leaning in to kiss you.
“... fine,” he concedes at last.
You beam, touched as always by the way he’s always so willing to compromise for you. Getting to your feet, you take his hands into yours, helping him up all the same. When he stands, you keep his hands in yours, pulling him just low enough so you can kiss him once more.
“I love you, Cross,” you whisper. He gazes down at you, eyes alight with such affection that you know he only reserves for you. Tenderly, he presses a kiss atop your head, allowing his lips to linger there.
“I love you, too,” he returns.
When you finally return to the barracks, you find yourself cozy and snug in Crosshair’s bunk. Given it has an actual mattress, it’s far more comfortable than the couch by the window—made even more so by the embrace of your beloved sniper. In his arms, sleep finds you more easily than it has in years. The gentle caress of his hands is the last thing you feel before you finally drift off.

HUNTER (NSFW)
… Hunter, whose tired eyes light up with a smile when he spots you.
“There you are,” he hums, with the most handsome gravel in his weary voice. “I was wondering where you ran off to…”
You smile warmly at him as he saunters up beside you. He takes a seat next to you, not shy at all to wrap his arm around your waist when he does.
“How’d you find me? I thought I covered my tracks very well,” you ask with a grin. He smirks back at you.
“Really? All those sleemos I’ve tracked down on our missions and you want to know how I could follow you here?” he teases, pinching your cheek playfully.
With a giggle, you shake his hand off of you. “Hey, it never hurts to double check.”
Hunter presses a kiss to your temple. His lips feel warm, even more when compared to the cold breeze from outside.
“What are you doing up so late, cyar’ika?” he asks you softly. With an awkward smile, you shrug.
“I wish I knew,” you sigh, gaze falling to the floor. “For some reason I just can’t sleep tonight. I don’t know why…” You pout, hugging your knees against your chest. “It’s annoying, that’s for sure.”
Hunter nods solemnly.
“Yeah, I can imagine,” he hums. “This war’s exhausting, but I still find it hard to close my eyes some nights…”
He falls quiet for a moment. The sound of the rain and the warmth of Hunter’s embrace fill you with a sense of peace.
“What about you?” you ask.
He tilts his head. “What about me?”
“What has you up so late, huh?”
A sly smirk forms on Hunter’s lips. He shrugs a shoulder, all too casual.
“Well, I was sound asleep, but a little someone saw fit to leave me all by my lonesome in the barracks,” he sighs. “Guess I just got restless.”
You grin, narrowing your eyes at him.
“Oh? Your brothers weren’t good enough company?” you tease.
Hunter chuckles; the hand on your waist lingers lower, his fingers skirting the hem of your shorts and making you shiver. He leans in close to you, lips nearly touching yours.
“Well… they’re not the kind of company I’m after tonight,” he purrs.
A blush fills your cheeks. Unable to resist his charm, you close the gap between you, meeting Hunter in a kiss that deepened by the moment. As his tongue slipped between your lips, you felt him hoist you into his lap, facing you away from him. He parts from the kiss with a low growl in his chest, before trailing more softly down your neck.
“Hunter…” you breathe, eyes falling shut as he lavishes you with affection.
His warm lips come second only to his warm hands that have since found their way under your shirt. His every caress causes heat to rise beneath your cheeks—even more when his palms land firmly on your chest.
You hum his name again, breath hitching as his fingers toy with your breasts. Behind you, his chest presses against your back. Even without all his armor, he feels so strong… so big. You know that, in his arms, you would always be safe. Well… safe from the other dangers of the galaxy—certainly not safe from him.
“You know what helps me when I can’t sleep?” he asks, breath tickling your neck. You manage a chuckle—although a moan quickly overtakes it when Hunter’s teeth bear down on your flesh.
“I could wager a guess,” you tease. You feel Hunter smile against you.
“Really?” While one hand continues to coddle your breasts, another meanders slowly down your torso. “Why don’t you tell me, then?”
Though you wish to continue playing hard to get, Hunter’s attention makes that difficult. Your words stick in your throat when his hands breach the waistband of your shorts, fingers creeping over your panties. When he strokes over the wet spot in the fabric, you whimper in spite of your best efforts. Deft swipes offer just enough friction to drive you mad with want, but his strong arms hold firm against your attempts to rut into his hand.
“Well? Out with it,” he growls. His lips press to your ear, your heart thrumming against your chest when he adds, “Tell me what you want.”
With the way Hunter’s fingers work you outside of your panties, he must know that you hardly have the composure to make such a request of him. Your groans as you vye desperately to speak the words he wishes must still fill him with some satisfaction—enough that you can feel how hard he is against your back.
“Hunter… please…” you manage, biting your lower lip when he deepens his pressure just slightly.
“Don’t be shy, cyar’ika,” he purrs. “Say it.”
Meeting his gaze with hazy eyes, you sigh.
“Make me come, Hunter…”
You can practically hear the grin on his lips when those words leave you at last. He presses a soft kiss to your temple.
“Heh… anything for you, love,” he smirks.
Swiftly, Hunter pushes your panties to the side; when his hands touch you, now with nothing in the way, the mewl he draws from you sounds so pathetic that you thank every star for the raging storm outside to drown you out. His calloused fingers draw circles around your aching clit, now drenched in the wetness that resulted from his teasing. Only he knew you this well—well enough to have you trembling in his lap, babbling half-formed thoughts of your desire, completely and utterly helpless.
As if you couldn’t get worse, Hunter’s other hand soon joins the first. Not once stopping his motions on your clit, his fingers find your cunt, slipping inside of you with ease. Your walls clench around him, your every sense overwhelmed with ecstasy. The sound of your wetness against his hands, the taste of his needy tongue, the smell of his sweat and yours, the sight of his half-lidded eyes, and the feeling… it was all too much to bear.
Edging closer and closer, your hands reached behind you, finding purchase in Hunter’s hair. You rest your forehead against his, struggling to meet his gaze, but needing to all the same.
“Hunter…” you breathe, a whimper interrupting your train of thought. “I-I…”
Knowing exactly what you want—what you need—Hunter grins. He runs his tongue along your bottom lip, meeting you in one last longing kiss.
“Go on, cyare—come for me,” he whispers. The sensual rasp of his voice combined with the magic he works between your legs has you obeying his orders with ease, tension building to your climax. “That’s it… beautiful…”
You come hard on his hands, your cunt fluttering around his fingers as they pulse into you still. The movements on your clit do not relent, either, elongating your orgasm into something unbearably pleasurable. It feels like minutes before he’s done with you—and minutes before you’re done, as a result. But, eventually, his touch slows, bringing you down from your highest high and lulling you into your warm afterglow.
Breathless and spent, you collapse against Hunter, nuzzling your face lazily into his neck. He brings his wet fingers up to your lips, and you lazily allow them into your mouth, gently sucking them clean for him.
“How do you feel?” he asks, a warm smile on his lips. When you open your mouth to answer, a yawn is all that comes out, making him chuckle. “See? It always works. Come on,” he wraps you up tight in his arms, before getting to his feet, “let’s get you to bed.”
Though you want nothing more than to cozy up to sleep right now, you pout up at him.
“What about you?” you ask, hating the thought of leaving him without all the attention he showered you with. With a smirk, he planted a soft kiss on your forehead.
“Don’t worry about me; as long as you’re ready for bed, I got what I came for,” he explains. He raises an eyebrow, grin turning mischievous as he adds, “And… I’m sure you’ll have time to make it up to me before we deploy in the morning.”
Giggling, you leaned up just far enough to give Hunter a soft kiss. He returns it happily, even as he carries you back to the elevator to make your return to the barracks.
“You know I’m good for it,” you hum. With a soft sigh, your eyes fall shut. “I love you, Hunter…”
Though you’re fading fast in his arms, you feel his lips on your head one last time.
“I love you, too, cyare.”
You’re asleep before the elevator doors can close behind you.

You don’t know how you’ll survive another night.
The Havoc Marauder had come to rest in the pleasant evening air of some forest world after a long day of battle. Rarely do you and the boys get to enjoy such a beautiful night during this war; you sit in the ship’s cockpit, the gangplank open to allow the cool air into the vessel, and you chat about whatever comes to mind. As usual, Wrecker and Tech are the most talkative, and you’re happy to listen.
Although, admittedly, you don’t listen as closely as you normally would. As has been the case for a few days now, you find yourself… distracted. Years of training at the Jedi Temple have pushed you to overcome your baser instincts, and though such a feat never came easily, you’ve managed for so long. But every now and then, it would become too much to bear.
Try as you might to ignore it, to focus instead on the bright smiles and warm laughter of your friends, your mind fixes solely on the burning heat between your thighs.
When Wrecker smacks the back of your chair hard, you’re ripped from your thoughts and back to reality. Something has gotten your traveling companions in a fit of amusement—though what, you haven’t a clue.
“What do you think, General?” Wrecker’s gruff voice booms. “I say Tech’s got his goggles on too tight if he thinks I can’t wrestle a rancor!”
“I did not say you would be unable to,” Tech quickly interjects. “I merely noted that the odds of us encountering a situation that would require wrestling a rancor are slim, to put it generously.”
A wide grin spreads on your lips, and you pray they can’t see the heat beneath your face.
“If the Republic isn’t assigning us missions where wrestling rancors is a requirement, I’m not sure why we’re even fighting this war,” you tease, eliciting a roar of laughter from Wrecker.
“You got that right!” he chimes.
From across the cockpit, Echo scoffs.
“You’d better hope the Seppies don’t add rancors to their ranks,” he mutters. “The droids are already bad enough…”
“If Wrecker thinks he can handle it, why not?” Crosshair smirks.
As the men begin to chatter, you find your thoughts turning inward once more—or downward, more specifically. This tension has been building within you for days now, and no amount of meditating or distraction has offered reprieve. Your body aches, begging to be touched, and all you can do is wait. Sharing a cramped ship with five men has never been your ideal living condition, but you could tolerate it. When you felt like this though—when you neared the brink of insanity from how desperately you craved something to fill you—life on the Havoc Marauder turned from tolerable to torturous.
Again, the men erupt in laughter over some remark you missed entirely. Awkwardly, you cross your legs, the friction from your movement causing your body to tense up. A shaky sigh passes your lips. Maybe tonight, you could find the courage to do something. With the state you’re in, you haven’t been getting much sleep, anyhow. Perhaps in the dark of night, while everyone else got their rest, you could have your release…
Abruptly, the movement of one of your men catches your eye. It’s Hunter—he shoots to his feet, startling you out of your thoughts. He had been so quiet all night that you’ve nearly forgotten his presence—not helped by the way he seemed to brood in the darker corners of the ship. He treads wordlessly through the ship, suiting up with a few scant pieces of gear over his blacks.
“Something wrong, Hunter?” Echo asks.
Hunter can’t even meet his brother’s eyes, shaking his head with a stern frown.
“Just need to clear my head,” he mutters. He passes through the cockpit, not dignifying any of you with his gaze he heads to the gangplank. “I’ll be back.”
With that, he descends into the night, leaving the rest of you utterly perplexed.
The conversation takes a moment to start again, leaving Wrecker to break the odd silence.
“...what’s with him?” he asks, earning a collective shrug from the room.
“I don’t know,” Echo mutters, “but he seems… testy, these past few rotations.”
Tech tilts his head, already back to his datapad. “This is not entirely unusual. Hunter’s heightened senses often lead him to seek isolation. I’d say the only one of us worse is Crosshair.”
The sniper in question growls, plucking the toothpick he holds in his mouth to flick at his brother.
Standing to your feet and ignoring your aching core, you smile.
“I can go check on him,” you offer. “I think I could use the fresh air, anyway. But don’t stop having fun on our account, okay?”
You flash Wrecker a smile as you head to the door, and he obliges you with a laugh.
“We won’t! Trust me!”
With a final wave goodbye, you head out into the night. The chill in the deep forest does wonders to calm you, though the heat nagging in your stomach does not entirely abate. Gently, you reach out into the Force, finding Hunter’s signature with ease. You meander along the trail he left, taking your time in hopes of giving him whatever space he seeks. You have no interest in troubling him; just ensuring that he doesn’t have something else on his mind that he’s reluctant to reveal.
Though maybe you’re just projecting, you think bitterly to yourself.
You emerge into a beautiful clearing, more picturesque than any holo you’d ever seen in the Temple. A lake expands over the horizon, waves rippling and glittering in the light of the moons above. From the treeline to the lakebed, a myriad of wildflowers dance on the breeze.
It all looks so perfect, leading a very sour Hunter to stand out more than you ever thought possible.
Your sergeant leans against a tree trunk, body tense as he spins his vibroblade around and around in his hand. When you approach him, he stiffens, despite his best efforts to appear casual.
“Hey,” you smile, voice soft to match the quiet of the night. “I thought you might want some company.”
Hunter manages a half smirk, tilting his head to acknowledge you wordlessly. With every step closer to him, you feel his heart rate spike in the Force. What is going on with him?
“I just figured I should check in on you. You seem really tense these past few days…” you note.
Only when you look up at him, finding him awkwardly avoiding your gaze, do you realize you’d come to a stop far closer to him than you intended to. The nearness you share does little to quell the heat throbbing inside of you, but you stifle it down as best you can.
Hunter struggles for a moment, lips parting and closing as he searches for what to say. After a long silence, he sighs, meeting your gaze at last.
“It, er… it’s you,” he confesses.
Worried, you tilt your head.
“What about me?” you ask. “Did I do something?”
Your ignorance of the matter seems to work Hunter up even further. He shifts his weight from one leg to the other, awkwardly tapping the armor on his thigh to shake off his nerves. You can’t say you’ve ever seen him so out of his element.
“I… know what you’ve been going through these past few days,” he explains. He gestures awkwardly up and down your body. “I can sense it. It’s, well…” He huffs. “...distracting.”
You think for a moment, still unsure of what he means. But something in the way his eyes find yours conveys exactly what he’s trying to say.
He knows about the way you’ve been feeling lately. He knows…
Immediately, your face burns. Your eyes fall to the ground, and shame rises in your throat. You think about just how many hours you’ve spent these past few days, thinking the filthiest thoughts and riling yourself up without any hope of reprieve—and knowing now that Hunter could sense every second of it…
“...oh,” you breathe, quiet as a mouse droid.
You meekly catch Hunter’s gaze one more time, but the grimace he wears drives your eyes away immediately. Stars, you just want to run and hide… How could you have been so stupid? Hunter can sense a disturbance entire klicks away; you really thought he couldn’t smell your desperation?
A million thoughts race through your mind—a million different ways to apologize. Should you apologize? What if that just makes the situation even more awkward? Maybe you should forget you ever asked, but you don’t want him to think you don’t care about his feelings…
Before you can fully spiral into hypotheticals, you hear a sharp sigh from Hunter’s lips. Your eyes land on him again. His eyes are shut as he pinches the bridge of his nose, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Do you… need… help?”
If your heart had been racing before, it’s jumped to lightspeed now.
“...what?” you ask.
“Look,” Hunter grunts, “until you’re… taken care of… I won’t be able to focus. I’ve barely gotten any sleep these past nights; it’s… overwhelming.”
He tucks away his vibroblade, the hilt snapping against the sheathe with a satisfying click. When he takes a step closer, now looming over you, the need deep within you flares like a star. Judging by the way his body tenses—how his hands ball into tight fists—you know he can tell.
He raises a shaky hand, setting it on your cheek. His touch burns on your skin. You want nothing more than for him to ignite you.
“Do you want me to take care of you?” he growls.
His gaze has you paralyzed. You fear to even breathe, worrying that the wrong move might shatter this illusion and leave you embarrassed and alone. But you know he would never do such a thing. You trust Hunter with your life… how could you not trust him with this?
Besides—judging by the way he stares at you, hunger in his piercing eyes, you suspect he has a need all of his own.
You nod, and before you can breathe, his lips are on yours.
Hunter’s rough hands explore your body, not at all timid in their desires. They tug at your shirt as his tongue presses against your lips, and you readily grant both of his wishes. His tongue toys with yours while his hands grope at your chest, drawing a pathetic whimper from your lips. So little of his attention already has your head reeling, drowning in delight. The need in your core overwhelms you now, and it seems to spur him on, all the same.
Abruptly, Hunter spins you around, pressing your back against the firm tree trunk. He deftly strips you of your top, tossing it into the dirt. You didn’t care—couldn’t care. You were far more concerned with working his thigh between your legs, desperate for something to relieve the agonizing tension there. Hunter comes to your aid, pressing his thigh against you before he moves his lips to your chest.
Whining his name, you grind your hips against his leg, over and over with no will to stop yourself. When Hunter’s teeth clasp onto your nipple, you gasp, biting your lip to cope with the sensation. He’s quick to release you, though, instead sucking you into his mouth as his hand gropes the other side of your chest.
When he’s had his fill, he pulls away, treating you to another hungry kiss—one that soon parts from your lips and trails down your frame. You stare in awe as he kisses along your sternum, your stomach, before reaching the waistband of your pants and settling onto his knees. With little regard, he tugs your pants down. You help by hurriedly kicking them off, unwilling to waste a moment when the release you crave is so near.
Standing above Hunter in nothing but your panties leaves you vulnerable in a way you’ve never known. But that vulnerability only worsens the throbbing tension inside you. Your body begs you to give in to him, and the overwhelming pleasure mounting in your stomach has you in no mood to disobey.
Hunter’s piercing gaze hangs on you for a moment, before moving to your still-clothed cunt. Your face burns; by now, your panties are completely soaked through, and you have no doubt he can tell. He wraps his hands around your thighs, gently prying them open. When he presses his face between your legs, his mouth and nose just barely putting pressure against your sex, you nearly pass out.
“H-Hunter…” you whimper.
Wordlessly, he breathes you in. Overwhelmed by your desperation, his eyes flutter shut, a ragged exhale crossing his lips.
“Fuck… you’re driving me crazy,” he growls.
Roughly, he hikes one of your thighs onto his shoulder. Before you can even hope to react, he pushes your drenched panties aside and presses himself against your cunt.
Shockwaves rout your entire body, pulsing from your core to your every extremity. Your hands find Hunter’s hair, tugging at his dark locks. He doesn’t mind—that is, if he notices at all. He attends to your aching cunt with unmatched discipline, drinking from you as though you were water after a thousand parched days beneath the Tatooine suns. His lips close around your clit, suckling at it, all the while swirling over it with his tongue.
He laps at you so hungrily that you can barely utter a sound, your whole body tense with the way he works you. Your every mewl catches in your throat, strangled into a breathless whimper. Still, you need more of him, tugging at his scalp and rutting your hips into his face.
“Hunter…!” you gasp. When he groans against you, the vibration sends a shiver up your spine. “Please… I-I need more… please, Hunter…!”
Hunter’s eyes flash up to meet yours. His pupils are blown wide, focused fully on you. Reluctantly, he pries his lips off of you, though not without a parting mark on the soft flesh of your thigh. He wipes his mouth clean with the back of his hand before standing up once more. At his full height now, you quickly recall just how imposing his stature is—and just how badly you wish to experience it.
Supporting your neck with his gloved hand, he leans over you, kissing you deeply. You love the taste of yourself on his lips, tongue toying with his in need of more. When he pulls away, he lingers by your ear.
“Turn around,” he demands.
You swallow hard, nodding and obeying. Once you face away from him, he places his palm between your shoulder blades, pressing your top half against the tree while your hips remain close to him. Carelessly, he slips your panties down your legs, exposing you fully to the cold night air. A low rumble reverberates in his chest as he looks you over; you can practically feel the burn of his eyes on your skin, trailing over every inch of your needy body as you present yourself to him.
He grasps your hip firmly, and with his free hand trails his fingers along your cunt. You gasp, body reacting fiercely to even so light a touch.
“Kriff… you’re so wet,” he remarks, his low voice doing little to help matters. “Have you been like this all week?”
You nod, desperation written on your features.
“Mm-hm,” you murmur. “Please, Hunter… I-I need you.”
He smacks your ass, earning a startled moan from you. Taking a step back, he quickly shuffles off his gear and his blacks, with you watching him over your shoulder all the while. When his cock is finally free of his pants, you nearly drool. He’s already so achingly hard… your cunt clenches around nothing, hopeless at the need to be filled by him.
When he spots you staring, an awful smirk forms on his lips. He closes the distance between you, leaning over you and pressing his chest to your back. You arch against him, hips grinding against his with overwhelming need. Stopping briefly to mark your neck, Hunter’s lips settle at your ear.
“I’m going to ruin you,” he growls.
You mewl, utterly and hopelessly his. “Please…”
With one last kiss on your shoulder, Hunter lines himself up with your slick entrance. When he pushes into your aching cunt, your eyes light with stars.
His hips persist, splitting you open until he’s buried to the hilt. His hard cock twitches inside of you, hitting that sweet spot deep inside. When you flex around him, he hisses through his teeth.
“Fuck, your little cunt is so tight,” he rasps. “I don’t think you’re ever gonna let go of me…”
Hunter’s thick cock overfills and overwhelms you, straining your walls to their limit as he thrusts deeper into you. His hands keep your hips in a vice grip, not allowing you to challenge his excruciatingly slow pace. He bottoms out inside of you, then pulls out, dragging himself along your walls. When he’s finally free of you, he repeats the process, sheathing himself again. Your wetness engulfs his every thrust, with more than enough to spill down your thighs as he tortures you.
“Hunter!” you beg, voice wavering as he strikes deep inside you again. “Please, go faster…!”
Breathless, Hunter chuckles.
“What, you want more?” he purrs through a smirk. He smacks your ass again, and you cry out. “You want me to fill up this needy little cunt?”
Before you can answer, his hips collide with yours, reducing your words to a moan.
“Say it,” he demands.
“Yes! F-Fill me up,” you beg. “Fuck… I’m gonna lose my mind…!”
“Heh… now you know how I feel,” he mutters. As he picks up his pace, he groans, biting into the tender flesh on your shoulder. “Ah, kriff… I just might lose my mind, anyway.”
Hunter pounds into you, sending you spiraling with every relentless thrust. Though you had begged for him to take you harder, faster, you feel thoroughly unprepared for the way he fucks you. With how close you’ve grown to him, you find it easy to forget sometimes that he isn’t just a man. He’s a soldier—a supersoldier—and you’ve never been more aware of that than right now.
Hunter leans in close to your ear, pulling you out of your thoughts.
“You’re being a bad girl,” he growls. “A Jedi getting fucked by a clone? What would the Council say?”
To your utmost surprise, your face burns like a starship engine. You bite back a whimper, though the way you squeeze around Hunter’s cock does not go unnoticed. Through shaky breaths, he chuckles.
“You like that?” he asks, half inquiring and half observing.
Biting your lip, you nod. “Mm-hm…”
He interrupts his pace with a pointedly rough thrust, forcing a mewl from your lips. One of his hands moves from your hips to your throat, pulling you into him and trapping your back against his chest. You feel so defenseless, so exposed… you can’t say which has your head lighter: the way his fingers put the faintest pressure on your neck, or the shame of your actions. You suppose it doesn’t matter which—both are merely driving you higher and higher.
“Maybe we should call them,” Hunter continues, “let them watch their perfect little Knight getting fucked like a whore on Daiyu.”
Your eyes shoot wide. If he merely hopes to rile you up with such a statement, he succeeds.
“N-No!” you utter, emphatically shaking your head. You hear Hunter’s breathy laughter behind you before he picks up his already breakneck pace, his body smacking against yours so forcefully that the skin on your thighs and ass begins to sting.
“I think you’re right,” he grunts, his labored breath tickling your ear. “I think I’ll keep you all to myself.”
At that moment, you want nothing more. Your eyes are rolling back in your head, mouth agape as the tension mounts inside of you.
“You belong to me,” he growls. “You belong to this cock.”
You can barely form a lucid thought, so very close to reaching euphoria.
“Yes!” you whine. “Yes, Hunter!”
As he forces you over your peak, your vision goes white. Your orgasm thrashes through your body, tearing a moan from your lips. Your cunt shudders around his cock, overflowing with wetness and burning up inside. He reaches deeper inside of you than he ever could before, striking your sweet spot again and again, drawing your ecstasy out to a maddening duration.
“Fuck,” Hunter groans. “Fuck me, you’re so fucking tight!”
Try as you might to call his name, you can only babble, rendered absolutely cock-dumb by the man fucking you. By now, your entire body is covered in a slick of sweat and flush with heat. You struggle to stand, quivering legs barely able to hold your weight. From the way his body trembles around you, Hunter isn’t faring much better. But evidently, he still hasn’t had his fill of you.
Hunter doesn’t let up, thrusting fervently into your abused, throbbing cunt. Your eyes begin to well with tears, head swimming with arousal far too much to bear. Your head lolls back, cheek pressing against Hunter’s. Despite the way he fucks you within an inch of your life, his hand moves from your neck to your face, gently cradling you as he dots a kiss on your lips.
“Think you’ve got one more in you?” he rasps, pressing a lazy kiss on your ear.
Though you hesitate, you eventually answer with a weary nod. With a loud moan, Hunter sinks his fingers into your hip so hard you fear your skin might bruise. The hand he holds on your face slips down between your legs, drawing tight circles around your swollen clit.
“Come on my cock, beautiful,” he breathes. “Come on my cock one more time, and I’ll fill this pretty pussy up with cum.”
Though you can barely hear him over the ringing in your ears, his words push you over the edge. With the only pathetic whimper your hoarse throat can manage, you come once more, cunt spasming around Hunter’s length.
Thankfully, Hunter isn’t far behind you this time. Just as he promised, when you finish around him, he spills his hot cum inside of you, filling you so much that it quickly begins to seep from between your legs. He keeps his length inside of you, managing one or two more thrusts before he begins to soften.
The only sounds you hear now are the two of you gasping for air and the gentle lap of the lake against the shore. As all your adrenaline subsides, your legs threaten to give out underneath you. But before you can topple over, Hunter catches you, holding you around your waist.
“Easy there,” he warns, a chuckle buried in his words. You look up at him, finding a flustered smile on his lips—every sign of that dirty-talking casanova gone from his eyes. Clearing his throat awkwardly, he asks, “Are you… feeling better?”
You narrow your eyes at him, raising an eyebrow.
“Are you really asking me that?” you smirk. Though it’s hard to see through his tanned skin, you swear Hunter’s cheeks darken. “Yes. I’m feeling much better… thanks to you.”
Hunter grins, resting his forehead gently against yours.
“Yeah… I’m feeling better, too,” he sighs. “Sorry for being short with you before.”
“Sorry for driving you up a wall all week,” you giggle.
Hunter smirks. Gently, he lifts you up in his embrace, tucking one arm under your legs and the other under your back. When you meet his eyes, he tilts his head towards the beautiful lake illuminated in the moonlight.
“Why don’t we wash up?” he suggests.
With a heavy sigh of contentment, you nod. “That sounds wonderful.”
As Hunter carries you to the water, you smile softly, closing your eyes and resting your head on his chest.
“By the way… I think we need to have a discussion about your language, Sergeant,” you tease him.
He chuckles, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead.
“I’ve been reprimanded for worse,” he shrugs.

After months of running from the Empire, after years of war, Pabu was a dream.
The setting sun painted the calm, sprawling ocean warm orange and red. Standing outside the little bungalow you’d been staying in, the breeze rolling through your hair, you felt like the star of some sappy holovid–certainly a far cry from the role of Jedi General that you used to play.
The scene reminded you of the sunset over Coruscant, memories from back in your youth when you’d actually been able to enjoy such a sight. Having the time–the freedom–to enjoy it again now… you weren’t sure how to feel.
Pabu really was a dream. But much like your fondest dreams, you struggled to grow too attached, knowing you’d inevitably wake up. You always did.
Still, it was nice to pretend, even if it couldn’t last. You had a quaint home, your beloved squad (who had found plenty to enjoy about the island, themselves)... why couldn’t you be happy, just for a little while?
“I was wondering where you’d run off to…”
A bitter smile formed on your lips. Whether he knew it or not, he was one of your lingering reservations.
Hunter ascended the stone stairway, making his way to your side and leaning against the half-wall of the balcony.
“Mind if I join you?” he asked.
“Seems like you already have,” you teased.
Hunter chuckled. His gaze turned out to the ocean, but yours remained on him for a moment. Though he looked perfectly at peace, you could feel a buried tension within him through the Force.
“This place sure is something, isn’t it?” he remarked.
“Yeah,” you nodded, “it’s nice, finally getting a chance to relax. We all needed it.”
Hunter hummed in agreement, before falling silent. Still, he wouldn’t–or couldn’t–meet your gaze. With the way his eyes darted, and his lips pursed, you could tell he struggled with what to say next. The silence overstayed its welcome, until finally, he spoke.
“You know, being here has me… thinking about things.”
“Oh?”
You hated this game you played with one another, this dance around a truth that both of you pretended not to know. With your Force sensitivity and his heightened senses, you shared an understanding of one another that no one else could comprehend. On the battlefield, it made working in tandem a breeze. Off the battlefield–where it was just the two of you with no distractions–it made denying this thing between you nigh impossible.
You only wish one of you would be brave enough to spit it out. And though the thought gripped your heart with panic, Pabu clearly filled Hunter with courage.
“I think Shep was right,” he sighed. “If there was anywhere I’d want to lie low and settle down, this would be it.”
You nodded, your gaze falling.
“We could certainly do worse,” you noted, though your disheartened expression didn’t match your words. You knew he couldn’t stall forever. You only wish you had any idea of how you’d respond once he broached the subject.
Quiet fell over you again, the gentle island breeze deafening in comparison. You waited for Hunter to speak, not bold enough to break the silence yourself. Eventually, you heard not his voice, but a frustrated sigh.
And to your utmost surprise, his gloved hand boldly took yours.
Face burning red, you looked up at Hunter–only to find him looking back at you, brow furrowed and eyes intense. You could feel his heart racing through the Force, but he didn’t falter, braving his fears to hold your gaze. That was the man you would gladly lay down your life for.
The man you had fallen in love with.
“Listen… I know this won’t be easy to hear–it’s certainly not easy to say,” he began, straightforward and blunt now, “but… we need to talk. About us.”
Just as he promised, it wasn’t easy to hear. You pouted slightly, though you kept your eyes on his.
“What about us?” you feigned.
Hunter narrowed his gaze.
“You know what.”
Though panic tried to bubble up in your chest, Hunter’s hand squeezing yours anchored you in the moment.
“If there was ever a time for us to try being more than what we are now, this is it,” he pressed.
Despite his vote of confidence, doubts still nagged at the back of your mind. You pursed your lips, grappling with your words.
“I don’t know, Hunter…” you mumbled.
Hunter stepped closer to you. He faced you now, and you faced him in turn. Gently, he took your other hand into his grasp, keeping his eyes focused solely on you.
“Look… I know you’re scared–and believe me, I’m scared, too,” he sighed. He frowned, his eyes pleading with you as he continued. “But what scares me more is the thought of going my whole life never showing you what you really mean to me.”
Moving even closer, his lips mere inches from yours, he set a hand gently on your cheek. Despite your words of hesitation, you leaned into his touch with ease. His thumb ran along your cheekbone as he gazed upon your face with such affection and warmth.
“I’m not going to force you to do anything, but if you’re willing… I want to try,” he said. “You’re worth it. We’re worth it.”
Having heard your whole life that forming attachments would lead only to suffering, the fear that possessed you in that moment made every bit of sense. Still, you knew that Hunter was being truthful to say you were not alone in your worries. From both the clones’ training and his own reservations, the thought of forming ties with you filled him with fear, all the same. Yet, he wished to brave that fear for you. It was one of many things you loved about him–that he could look fear in the eyes and push through it without question.
And if you could brave a thousand droids to keep him safe, you could brave this unknown–especially if he braved it with you.
Swallowing your fear, you closed the distance between you, pressing your lips to Hunter’s as you’ve longed to for years now.
Hunter didn’t waste a moment, readily sweeping you into his arms as the kiss deepened. His hands gripped at your waist as though he feared losing hold of you somehow, but with your arms draped over his shoulders, hands tangled in his hair, you made it clear you were there to stay. On this beautiful island, with the love of your life… where else would you rather be than here?
When at last you broke away, your eyes fluttered open, relieved to see Hunter smiling back at you. He pressed his forehead to yours, and you beamed.
“Can’t say how long I’ve wanted to do that,” he grinned.
“Not as long as I have, I bet,” you teased.
Hunter dotted a small peck on your lips, before heaving a sigh–not of frustration this time, but one of content. For a moment, you simply held one another, basking in the glow of the sun and the warmth of your love. After a while, you went to speak again, but before you could, the lanterns around you flickered on, illuminating you and the rest of the island as dusk faded to night.
“Guess that’s my cue,” Hunter chuckled. “I should get going, but… I’m glad we’re on the same page.”
Hunter stepped away from you, but couldn’t go much further–not when your hands took hold of his. He looked back at you with surprise, only to find you pouting… and blushing.
“I… I want you to stay,” you murmured.
Hunter’s eyes went wide, but soon enough, he found his confidence–confidence made much worse by your bashfulness. It was rare for him to have a leg up on you, and he seemed eager to enjoy it while he could.
“Well, I’d love to, but… it’s getting late–I need to get back to my bungalow,” he sighed dramatically. His grin widened as he continued. “That is… unless you think there’s somewhere else I could sleep…”
You tilted your head, narrowing your eyes at him and frowning. Your expression told him all he needed to know: stop being such a smartass and stay the night. Unable to resist you, he chuckled, drawing you closer and pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“All right, all right; I’ll stay,” he conceded. “You won’t hear me complaining, that’s for sure…”
Smiling again, you kissed him once more, keeping his hand in yours as you led him toward the door of your place.
, , ,
When you went inside, a small feeling of comfort came over you at the sight of your little bungalow. By all accounts, it was barren, save for the furniture that Shep and the locals had been kind enough to supply you with. You’d strewn around a few knick knacks you’d picked up in your travels with the Batch, along with some decorations you’d bought on Pabu itself. But even lightly decorated, it was the closest thing to a home you’d had since the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
“Nice place,” Hunter teased, looking over the ‘nothing’ that comprised your humble residence. “Lived here long?”
As you locked the door behind you, you rolled your eyes. You turned to him with a smirk, draping your arms around his neck once more.
“Actually, I just moved in,” you answered, grin widening as his hands found your hips. “In fact, I was thinking just this morning about how it could use some breaking in…”
Hunter looked you over, his expression caught somewhere between love and lust.
“Heh… I think I could lend you a hand there,” he chuckled.
Boldly, Hunter lifted you into his arms, prompting you to wrap your legs around his waist as he met you in another kiss–though one far hungrier than what you’d shared before. He carried you over to the bed, laying you down on the plush white covers before parting from you with a kiss on the forehead.
“Here, let me get these out of your way,” he said, getting to work removing the bulky armor pieces that he wore even over his so-called civilian attire. You watched him intently as he shuffled piece after piece onto the floor, until at last the clothes beneath were all that remained. When he reached for the bottom of his shirt and peeled it off over his shoulders, he met your gaze with a smirk.
“Enjoying yourself?” he asked.
With a bright smile, you could only nod. You and Hunter had caught glimpses of one another in various states of undress before–living aboard a ship as cramped as the Marauder was bound to lead to that. But watching him strip fully before you–and for you, at that–thrilled you far more than an absent glance at his shirtless figure as he left the shower. No, at last, he was finally yours to see… though “seeing” was far from all you wished to do.
Now stripped to just his pants, Hunter returned to you, his lips finding yours again with ease. His body felt hot against your skin, but when his fingers trailed beneath the hem of your shirt, you shivered. You had gotten in the habit of dressing down on Pabu, enjoying the warm sun and cool breeze of island life. But while it made Hunter’s job of undressing you that much easier, it left you feeling that much more vulnerable.
Gently, Hunter worked your cropped shirt off your shoulders, his lips parting from yours as the fabric crossed between the two of you. Seeing you bare before him, Hunter’s eyes widened. A blush flooded your cheeks, and you looked away, ready to make a snarky remark about his staring. But when his hands found your chest, your words left you, replaced with a shaky whimper.
“Hunter…!” you gasped as his fingers sunk into the softness of your skin. Though rough from years of combat, his hands treated you so carefully. His caressing filled you with warmth, and you could tell he was enjoying himself just as much.
“I just can’t believe how beautiful you are,” he remarked. With a chuckle, he added, “And I can’t believe I’m finally lucky enough to tell you.”
With one parting kiss on your lips, his mouth moved down your body to lavish your breasts with attention. He latched onto one of your nipples, holding it gently between his teeth as his tongue swirled around it. You could hardly handle the sensation, short of breath with every purse of his lips against your skin, but it seemed he still had more in mind.
One of his hands trailed slowly down your stomach, slipping beneath the waistband of your shorts. Pressing lightly, but still firmly enough to drive you crazy, he began tracing tight circles on your panties–right over the place you craved his touch the most.
“Hunter!” you gasped again. Between his mouth and his fingers, it was no wonder your face burned. “Kriff, Hunter…”
His eyes practically glowed in the low light, doing nothing to help your flustered state when they peered up at you. He plucked his lips from your chest, smirking that awful smirk as he continued teasing you with his fingers.
“You’re already soaked,” he whispered, lips pressed to your ear in a way that far from helped the matter. “I’m guessing you’ve been hoping for this as much as I have…”
While any other night you’d be content to lose yourself in this attention, he guessed correctly–you had been hoping for this as much, and as long, as he had. Which meant, unfortunately for him, that you were far from ready to give in.
Mustering up your strength, you threw your weight around him, rolling him over so that he rested beneath you, with you straddling his hips. Though his eyes went wide, you smirked down at him, running a hand through that beautiful, long hair of his.
“Where do you get off, showing me all this attention?” you purred, fingers tracing down his muscular chest.
Finding a smirk to match yours, Hunter tugged you closer by your hips. Between your legs, you could feel just how achingly hard he’d grown.
“I think you know where,” he snarked back.
Rolling your eyes, you backed off of him, pulling his pants down to his thighs as you went. When his length was finally exposed to you, you could hardly contain your excitement. You took hold of him, delighting in the way his expression turned when you began to stroke his shaft.
“Ah… just like that,” he breathed, losing himself in the rhythmic pumping you spoiled him with. Though he seemed to enjoy this plenty, you had other plans in mind.
“Hm… just like this?” you asked, your playful tone causing him to raise an eyebrow at you. Boldly, you leaned in closer to his length. “But what about this?”
Before he could speak, your lips pressed against his tip, catching his words in his throat. With a swirl of your tongue around his head, you opened your mouth, taking his cock inside and sucking on him. The precum that flowed from his length coated your tongue, and you readily coaxed more from him with every bob of your head.
Hunter’s breath hitched in his chest, and his moans only made you more eager to please him. While one of his hands gripped at the white comforter beneath him, the other tangled itself in your hair, keeping it out of your face so he could watch your lips descend on his cock over and over. Each time you’d glance at him, the hunger in his eyes made you ache between your hips.
When your lips met the base of his cock–when you felt the tip probe against your throat–Hunter gasped.
“Fuck, cyare!”
His hand tightened in your hair, pulling your mouth from his length with an unceremonious pop. When you looked up at him, you found his eyes half-lidded with lust, a red haze tinting his tanned cheeks.
“Ride me,” he begged, a rasp in his voice that sent a shiver through your body.
With a wordless nod, you straddled his hips, aching to be filled by him just as he ached to fill you. You lined him up with your opening, only hesitating when you felt his hands settle on your hips. He flashed a smile at you–one you matched with ease.
Then, carefully, you set yourself down on his length. You descended with agonizing patience, until you finally bottomed out against his hips. His cock filled you so perfectly, your walls gripping him as though you might never let him go. Not that he wanted to go anywhere–judging by the way he clung to your hips so hard you worried they might bruise, he seemed content to stay buried inside of you for the rest of time.
“Mm, Hunter…” you breathed. With your hands planted firmly on his shoulders, you started to ride him, whimpering as you moved. “I didn’t think you would feel this good.”
Through his breathless moans, he chuckled.
“You didn’t?” he teased.
You bit your lip and grinned back at him.
“Is it so hard to believe you could surpass my every fantasy, Sergeant?” you asked.
Hunter smirked. “I guess not…”
Catching you by surprise, Hunter thrusted against your hips as you rode him, nearly knocking the air out of you and filling your eyes with stars.
“But then again, I think you know better than to underestimate me.”
In no time at all, you found yourself limp against Hunter’s chest, face buried in the crook of his neck. His arms held you firmly against him by your waist as he pounded his cock into you over and over, dizzying you with delight. As he fucked you, he pressed his lips to your head, whispering sweet nothings against you between his labored moans.
You’re beautiful.
I’m all yours.
Let me take care of you, cyare.
And take care of you he did. By the time you neared your peak, you lay beneath him, your fingers raking down his toned back. The tension mounted between your hips with every thrust, made worse with his thumb drawing rhythmic circles on your clit.
“Hunter,” you moaned between languid kisses on his neck, “I’m close…”
“Me, too,” he sighed. “Where do you want me, love?”
You gazed intently into his eyes, your forehead on his.
“Inside,” you whispered without a moment’s thought.
With a nod, Hunter’s lips met yours, and he buried himself in you over and over until you could scarcely handle it. Breathless, your chest seized. You grasped onto him, nails digging into his skin as your orgasm overwhelmed you. Waves of ecstasy rippled through your core, your cunt fluttering around Hunter’s cock in such a way that fulfilling your desire was all but an inevitability for him. He filled you with his cum, your name parting from his lips as he met his end.
For all the battles you had endured at his side, you had never once seen Hunter this breathless. He trembled, held up by just his forearms, looking into your eyes with all the love in the galaxy. Only once he’d met you in one last loving kiss did he pull out of you, collapsing at your side and drawing you into his embrace.
The two of you shared in silence once again–though this time, not one filled by an unspoken tension between you. Instead, it was one of understanding, of comfort. A silence shared between two souls who understood one another, finally laid bare after hiding for so long.
Eventually, you smiled, giggling quietly–much to Hunter’s amusement.
“What’s so funny?” he smirked, squeezing your hips playfully.
Looking up at him with bright eyes, you bumped your nose against his.
“Nothing. I just… can’t believe it took us this long,” you confessed.
Hunter chuckled. “Believe me: if I’d known you would react like that, I would’ve worked up the courage to say something a long time ago…”
Rolling your eyes, you draped your arms over Hunter’s shoulders, luring him in for another soft, sweet kiss.
“Well… I’m just happy we’re trying now,” you sighed.
Though you had more to say, a quiet yawn interrupted your thoughts. Hunter helped you beneath the covers, plenty worn out himself. By now, night had fully fallen over Pabu, and the quiet back-and-forth of the tide beckoned both of you to rest.
“I’m happy, too,” Hunter said, voice hushed as his fingers worked soothingly through your hair. “Even if it’s hard to admit… I think we both deserve it.”
With a warm smile, you nestled against Hunter’s chest, adoring the way his body kept you warm and protected from the night air.
“I do, too…” you mumbled, fading fast now. “Good night, Hunter… sweet dreams.”
Hunter smiled, closing his eyes with his lips pressed against your head.
“Yeah… sweet dreams,” he whispered.

BAD BATCH HEADCANON - Showing Affection
Tumblr media
A/N: I'm doing these to overcome my irrational fear of doing bad batch headcanons and people thinking i have wrong opinions on them LOL i am such a baby QQ
These are just the ways I think the boys would most appreciate when it comes to showing affection or their fav sweet lil gestures! Enjoy ♥
Warnings: just a little spice for Crosshair but I think the rest is fine and sfw lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WRECKER
His favorite PDA is obvi just smacking u with lula
Wrecker loves touching you so much all the time
Sometimes it's intentional--he'll wrap you up in his arms and kiss your head a hundred times
But sometimes it's just a subconscious response
When Hunter's going over plans, he'll just pick you up and set you on his shoulder, not even noticing he's done it
This is a common occurrence: he picks you up all the time just because it feels so natural to him
You're like a magnet for him. If he can hold you, he will hold you.
It's a little embarrassing to be hoisted into your boyfriend's arms in the middle of an important briefing, but you can't stay mad at him.
You're sure if you had the power to lift him into your arms so easily, you'd do it, too
Tumblr media
ECHO
I think Echo wouldn't be a frequent PDA-doer for many reasons
He's very disciplined and seems more reserved than his brothers
But I think a little forehead touch would kill this man parentheses positive
If he needs to leave for a mission, and you rest your forehead on his and smile when you wish him luck, he will die!!! Parentheses positive!
It'll be all he thinks about while he's gone
It'd become something of a tradition between the two of you
Just a subtle and easy way to convey the way you feel about one another that would take hours to accomplish with words
I could see it becoming so important to him that he'd be unwilling to leave your side without it
Because if anything were to happen to either of you while you're separated, he wants to be sure you know what you mean to him
Tumblr media
HUNTER
Hunter does not strike me as a prude Victorian maiden or anything
But I think hand-holding would be really special to him
He'd be happy to kiss you whenever, of course
But it's the subtle way his fingers always find their way to interlock with yours that is so meaningful
If your hands are smaller than his, I think he'd secretly be very sentimental about it--it reminds him that, even if you can defend yourself, he wants to be your protector
(Or, at least, someone you can count on if you ever get tired of being so amazingly capable)
It's also something of a sweet gesture from him, too
You know how often this man uses his hands--the way he can spin a knife with a blade so sharp you're liable to get cut just looking at it, the way he's always throwing hand signals
But he prefers to hold your hand, instead
He must like you, or something
don't tease him like that or you'll earn yourself some much more overt PDA than hand-holding
Tumblr media
TECH
Tech doesn't strike me as one who'd be very into PDA
Not because he doesn't like it, or he doesn't think it's worthwhile
He's just busy thinking about lots of other stuff, and so it wouldn't come to mind as often
That's why whenever you lean your head on his shoulder while he's working, his poor heart can barely take it
You're comfortable enough around him that you're willing to just sit with him? And be close to him in a way that lets him keep fiddling away at whatever he's working on?
He is so in love!!!
It becomes routine for you to sit beside him when he's piloting the Marauder, or when he's looking up schematic's in Cid's bar, or really anywhere you can be near one another.
And once you lay your head on his shoulder, he lays his head on yours, in turn
To anyone else, it doesn't appear like much--but to Tech, it means the galaxy
Tumblr media
CROSSHAIR
Crosshair strikes me as someone who says he's not into PDA
But you always find his hand on you in some capacity whenever you're out with him
Most often, he'll sneak his arm around your waist and rest his hand on your hip
You know better than to point it out--you're sure if you were to say anything, he'd pout about it
So instead, you always try to make it easier for him.
You'll stand close to him, keep your arms out of his way, even lean in a bit closer to him once he finally has his arm around you
It's a small and meaningful way for him to show that you're his, without invoking the torment of his brothers
(That being said, he's a lot less subtle when it comes to the regs)
(If you're out and about with him and a reg so much as glances at you, expect some very salacious, very obvious kisses on your neck)
Tumblr media
A/N: I hope you enjoyed!! pls let me know if you wanna see more ♥

Careful Care (for @pb-jellybeans)
Tumblr media
AN: some sweet forehead-kissing with Rex for @pb-jellybeans!!! I hope I did our wonderful captain justice, u deserve nothing less than all of the love he has to offer ♥♥
Relationships: Captain Rex x Medic!Reader (I imagined a fem!reader while writing, but re-reading I don't see anything gendered. Pls let me know if you catch something, and I'll flag accordingly!!)
Summary: You and the captain have silently pined for one another what feels like forever now. When he lingers in the medbay a few moments too long, you know just the medicine he needs.
WARNINGS: very very very light and nondescript injury mention
Word Count: ~1.1k
Tumblr media
The eve of battle is bitter, but sweetened only by the fact that you can see him off.
The cold, sterile walls of the medbay feel warm and homey while you care for Captain Rex within them. With deft and gentle fingers, you apply a bacta patch to the wound on his shoulder. As you smooth the bandage down along the grooves of his muscle, you sigh, shooting him a wary smirk.
“This wound will take longer to heal if you’re carrying it in battle, you know,” you remind him, voice stern but caring all the same. “You really should sit this fight out.”
Rex huffs, shrugging half heartedly with his good shoulder. When his eyes meet yours, they soften, betraying the kindness behind his hardened exterior.
“I’ll be fine,” he insists. “Believe me, I’ve fought through worse.”
You chuckle through a little smile. “Hm. So dedicated…”
One of many things you adore about him.
Your hands linger on Rex’s arm for just a moment too long, but he doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, his eyes seem to fill with unspoken words when you finally do move away. As sweet as you are on the captain, you know he cares for you just as much. With the way he acts in your presence, you think you would have caught on even if his brothers didn’t inform you of his affection at every opportunity.
But, shy and respectful, Rex hasn’t spoken of his feelings on his own. You would never rush him to do so—a clone’s life is burdened by endless regulations and rules, so you understand his hesitation to explore a relationship outside the chain of command. So, until he’s ready, he has your patience—and your utmost care along with it.
When you finally finish patching him up, you take a step back.
“All right. I think you’re clear for combat, Captain,” you tell him. As he stands, you cross your arms. “Well… as ‘clear’ as I think you’ll tolerate.”
A soft, genuine chuckle passes Rex’s lips.
“I’m sure I’ll hold up fine,” he smiles. He hesitates, before adding, “...you’ve never let me down before, after all.”
You smile, though your cheeks are burning. “I don’t plan to start now. Good luck out there, okay?”
Rex nods. He holds his helmet awkwardly in front of him, standing idle as his lips purse into words he can’t speak. He locks eyes with you, holding your gaze for just a moment, before he looks away with a sigh.
“...thanks,” he murmurs.
Unwilling—or unable—to say more, Rex goes to walk past you. But something compels you to reach out—latching onto his armored wrist before he can return to his brothers and prepare to ship out. Your heart races, especially with the look of surprise on his face as you draw him closer to you.
“Actually… there was just one more thing before I can let you go,” you confess.
Rex tilts his head, eyes narrowing slightly. “...what is it?”
Wordlessly, you smile. You pull on his wrist just enough to bring his face closer to you. And once you can reach him, you dot a kiss on his forehead.
If you’d had him hooked up to a monitor, you would certainly have heard Rex’s heart stop. The poor man’s eyes shoot open; he forms a sheen of sweat before he can form words. But he doesn’t need to say a thing. You offer a kind smile, relinquishing his wrist.
“Be safe, Captain,” you say, leaving him to recover as you head off to tend to your duties. “And good luck out there.”
~~~
With your few hours of downtime, you’ve returned the medbay to pristine condition. Even so, you still find yourself cleaning more—idly scrubbing tables and tools, going over spots the cleaning droids made spotless hours ago. You suppose you can’t help yourself, needing some way to stay occupied. Whenever the men are out in battle, you worry endlessly about whether they’ll return to you safely.
About whether Rex will return to you safely.
Swallowing anxiously, you coax yourself into deep breaths. As hard as it can be not knowing, you have the utmost trust in him. He’s the best, after all… and you’re certain he’ll always make his way back to see you.
A sudden bustle in the halls catches your ear. You know it can mean only one thing—the battle is over, and judging by the excitement in the men’s voices, it was a victorious one.
Setting down your cleaning implements you walk to the door of the medbay, hoping to flag down one of the soldiers and get a report on the good news…
…but to your utmost surprise, when the door hisses open, someone already stands before you: Captain Rex.
To your embarrassment, a heavy sigh of relief escapes you. Even so, you beam, unable to do anything but in the captain’s presence.
“You’re back!” you chime, welcoming him into the medbay. “How did the battle go?”
Rex finds a half smile, tucking his helmet under his arm.
“As far as I can see, it couldn’t have gone better,” he reports. “Minimal casualties and a tremendous territory gain for the Republic. A decisive victory.”
As he speaks, your eyes light up at how proud he sounds—and you’re proud of him, all the same.
“I’m glad to hear it,” you say, cocking your head with a smirk. “Though I expect nothing less from the finest soldier in the Republic…”
Rex averts his gaze from you, rubbing the back of his neck. Again, you see his mind racing—his lips struggling against whatever inside him holds him back.
Eventually, he clears his throat awkwardly. “Actually… I have something for you.”
Curious, you tilt your head.
“Hm? What is it?”
Though his shoulders tense with anticipation, Rex manages a step toward you. He looks into your eyes, wordless but intense. And then…
…he leans in, pressing his lips ever so softly to your forehead.
Your face burns hotter than a starship engine. When Rex pulls away, his uncertainty melts into a knowing grin when he makes out just how bashful you’ve become. Gently, he pinches your cheek between his gloved fingers.
“You wanted that back, right?” he asks in a teasing tone you don’t often hear from him. But when his hand settles, cupping the side of  your head, his voice turns more sincere. “It helped me out in that battle, but I think you should hold onto it for now.”
Though your heart races and your head spins, you wear an unwavering smile. You set your hand over Rex’s, leaning into his touch with all the affection and warmth you’ve held for him all this time.
“Don’t worry… I’ll take good care of it.”
Taste of You
Tumblr media
NSFW (MINORS DNI)
AN:  I am convinced that Echo would be addicted to u riding his face to an unreasonable degree and also he's my precious boy so I wish to praise him bc he deserves it aaa💖 this is my 2nd fic and my first Blatantly Inappropriate fic so please lmk what u think LOL
Relationships: Echo x Fem Jedi!Reader (established relationship)
Summary: When you and Echo have the night together, he's content to keep you on his face the entire evening. But you aren't about to let your poor lover go unattended...
Warnings: general smut, faceriding, praise kink ("good boy"), hand?job?
Word Count: 1.3k
Tumblr media
“Echo…!”
A swift movement of Echo’s tongue ripped a moan from your lips. With the war raging on, it was not often enough that you found yourself here, enjoying the company of your beloved ARC trooper in the privacy of a Coruscant hotel room. But the two of you always made the most of the rare occasions when your shore leave coincided with his…
…and more often than not, that led to you in this position: sitting on the face of the most adorable man in the GAR.
Between gasps and whimpers, you glanced down at the sweet face buried between your thighs. You managed a soft smile in the midst of your pleasure. Since his return from Skako Minor, Echo has struggled so greatly to be comfortable, too wary of himself to ever relax. But somehow, whenever he was beneath you like this, it seemed his every stress and worry would melt away.
Frankly, you wondered if he enjoyed it even more than you did—and that was saying something.
Gently, you trailed your fingers across Echo’s scalp. When he moaned in response, you shivered at the vibrations that traveled through your core. He suckled and lapped at your sensitive clit, and from the sound alone, you could tell you were sopping wet.
But as incredible as he felt, you still longed for something more. Braving a glance over your shoulder, you could see just how hard he was—his length dripping with excitement, twitching at every moan you uttered. You licked your lips, knowing exactly what would sate your appetite.
“Mm, Echo…” you hummed. Your hands ran gently along his head, the soft touches you knew he loved. “Will you please fuck me, sweetheart? I want you inside of me…”
Echo groaned against you. His already tight grip on your hips tugged you even closer to him. He kept teasing you with his tongue, his eyes closed in utter bliss. When at last he broke away for a breath, he didn’t bother opening them.
“Five more minutes,” he grunted, before his mouth was on your sex once more.
You rolled your eyes. You would expect that answer from a lazy cadet attempting to sleep in during training, not the man who would sooner suffocate than miss a taste of you. But how could you be upset with him? Tenacious and stubborn, he was an ARC through and through—and that dedication showed tenfold when it came to pleasing you. And while you were pleased—by the stars, were you pleased—you only wished to take such good care of him, in turn.
But, with Echo’s iron grip on your hips and his insatiable appetite for you, it seemed you wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon. However, before you could resign yourself to another hour of riding his face (it was never, ever just “five minutes”), an idea came to you.
Echo wasn’t the only one with specialized training… and you had something in mind.
Willing yourself through the pleasure that Echo’s dexterous tongue overwhelmed you with, you managed to look over your shoulder once more. Shining beads of precum dribbled down Echo’s poor, neglected cock. Though you wanted with all of your heart to lick him clean, your mouth couldn’t reach him from this position. But that didn’t mean you were helpless.
Gently closing your eyes, you raised a hand—reaching out to the Force and flexing your palm slightly…
…and in moments, you had him in your grasp.
Almost instantly, Echo gasped, nearly choking as his drenched mouth broke away from your pussy.
“Ah… w-what… what are you…” he uttered, trying to form the words between his moans. But you quickly shushed him, settling your hips back onto his face once again and beckoning for his mouth to take you with a grind of your hips.
“Shh, it’s all right, handsome. I’ve got you…” you cooed. Your free hand continued caressing his head, while the other began to gently pump him with the Force. A smirk found your lips. “You promised me five more minutes, didn’t you? I know you’ll be a good boy and keep that promise…”
You can’t say what had Echo’s face more red—the way you were getting him off, or the sultry sweet praise you showered him with. Either way, he fell into this new pleasure quickly enough, lapping at you with renewed hunger while his hips desperately thrusted into the air.
With all the diligence of a perfect soldier, Echo kept true to his word, his tongue driving you into a stupor over and over again. All the while, you worked his length with the Force, pumping his length ever so gently—enough to drive him to his breaking point, but never past it. Each time you coaxed his cock with the perfect touch, feeling in the Force that he neared his end, you would release your hold on him—and he would be quite vocal about his distress from his safehaven between your thighs.
But as the night grew darker—as the sheen of sweat coated your trembling forms—you knew you couldn’t last much longer. Your dripping wetness painted the insides of your thighs and smothered your lover’s face, and all the same, Echo’s cock throbbed and ached. Both of you were desperate to cum, and try as you might to hold out, you couldn’t help but want to spoil that adorable man beneath you.
“Echo…!” you breathed. Gently, you tightened your thighs around his face and pressed your pussy against his mouth in the way you knew made him dizzy with delight. “Ah... please, make me come...! Good boy...”
As you rode him, you pumped him faster, feeling in the Force the way his cock twitched and swelled with excitement. With one last swirl of Echo’s tongue around your clit, the anticipation tightening within you finally unraveled. Your body seized as pulses of pleasure tore through you, and you came hard on Echo’s face.
From beneath you, Echo groaned loudly. His hips bucked desperately into the air one last time before he came, spraying hot strings of cum onto his chest and your back. Once he finished, you lowered your hand, releasing him from your Force grip. Trembling with exhaustion, he practically collapsed beneath you.
As you dismounted Echo’s face, he gasped for air, chest heaving even as you settled down beside him in the bed. His wide, golden eyes stared hard at the ceiling, as if he couldn’t believe he had survived such a taxing endeavor.
But before you could check in on him, he pulled your body close to his, meeting you in a fierce and desperate kiss. His tongue delved between your lips, and you could taste yourself on him.
When he finally broke away, he had to catch his breath again—but with his forehead on yours, he donned the biggest, warmest grin you think you’ve ever seen from your usually grumpy ARC trooper.
“I… I-I thought I was going to die,” he rasped. “Oh, kriff… we need to do that again.”
You laughed, pressing a sweet kiss to his nose as you draped your arms around his neck.
“Well, I’m glad to hear you had such a good time,” you sighed. But after a moment, a mischievous smirk appeared on your lips. “Although…”
Echo’s eyes pleaded with yours. “What?”
With a gentle flex of your fingers, the Force just barely brushed against Echo’s overstimulated cock—forcing a hiss from between his teeth as his body jerked in surprise.
“I still expect you to fuck me, sweetheart,” you whispered into his ear, kissing softly on his neck soon after.
With a wide, hazy smile, Echo could only chuckle.
“You know I will, beautiful,” he promised. Sighing deeply, he laid on his back once more. “Just… give me five more minutes.”
Rolling your eyes, you found a small smile, making yourself comfortable against the chest of the man you adored more than anything.
Relationships: Commander Cody x Royal Fem!Reader
Summary: Commander Cody had hoped that being assigned as security detail for a royal gala would be nothing more than a mundane distraction from the war. But when Separatists attempt to assassinate the you, the princess, he's forced to take you into hiding--and forced to reevaluate his priorities.
Cody was rarely one to complain about assignments, but for gala detail, he would make an exception.
The night was young, and Cody grew older by the moment as every high society aristocrat passed him by on their way into the ballroom. Not one of them so much as acknowledged his presence, and frankly, he preferred it that way. Fox had told Cody his fair share of stories—tales of shepherding senators who’d no more faced the horrors of war than any hardship in life. On any other occasion, this should’ve been Fox’s jurisdiction in the first place: no world had the privilege of constant political parties more than Coruscant, after all.
But it seemed the fates had cruel intentions for Cody. This particular gathering was not to take place in the heart of the galaxy, but rather, a Mid-Rim planet he and his men were in near enough proximity to after their latest battle. Cody had tried to argue that their efforts were best spent elsewhere—fighting the war, for one. But high command in the Republic demanded the presence of the 212th at this event, and without General Kenobi there to argue on his behalf, Cody and his men were forced to comply with the order.
But it was just for the night, he reminded himself. He winced beneath his helmet as yet another couple entered the ballroom, dressed in robes so costly they could fund a whole battalion of his brothers.
Just for the night.
Cody activated the communicator in his helmet.
“Status report,” he spoke.
He’d called for a status report not even thirty minutes prior, but he felt compelled to do so again. Not out of any concern of attack—just so he could be certain the men were still awake.
He was struggling, as it was.
“All clear from the northern balcony,” came a reply.
“No trouble in the shipyard.”
“The gardens are still as boring as they were when we got here.”
The slightest smirk found Cody’s lips.
“Affirmative. Keep your eyes peeled. And open,” he asserted. “We’re just here for the night. You’ll be back to blasting clankers before you know it.”
An unenthused “sir, yes sir” followed in a chorus over his comms, and Cody sighed. He glanced up at the stained glass ceiling hanging over the ballroom, seeing the moon rise ever higher beyond it.
Just for the night.
The active chatter of the crowd in the ballroom fell all at once to a murmur, and Cody hadn’t the slightest idea why. He stood taller than his already perfect posture, trying not to appear out of sorts as he sought out what had drawn the room’s attention.
The briefing for this assignment had mentioned precious little about the purpose of this gala, and it had certainly neglected any note of the princess hosting it. But when you emerged through the massive ballroom doors, Cody grew transfixed just as everyone had.
From atop the grand staircase, you possessed the eyes of every noble in attendance. Your long gown flowed with every step of your descent, its simple design never once distracting from the perfect poise with which you carried yourself. A crystalline tiara glittered atop your head, earning glances of envy from the crowd, but Cody hardly noticed it; he was much too distracted by the radiant eyes beneath it.
In the midst of your angelic descent to the ballroom floor, Cody overheard a pair of nobles whispering somewhere on his flank.
“The princess is here?” one of them asked in hushed tones.
“Of course she is,” replied another, “it’s her gala.”
“I know that! It’s just… is it truly safe for her to be here? If the Separatists knew—”
“—then what? They’d be foolish to try something.”
As you landed on the final step, you did something no one else had dared to do the entire evening. You glanced at the clone commander standing guard by the bannister, meeting him with a shy smile he would remember for the rest of his life.
As quickly as the moment had begun, the night returned to normal. The regular commotion resumed as you were swept into the awaiting crowd, greeted by politicians and royals alike, all while Cody remained frozen in time. Admittedly, Cody was not the most sociable man, even by the standard of the clones. Never in his life, in all the planets he had visited, had he seen a woman as remarkable as you. He honestly wasn’t even sure how to respond to it all—the fluttering in his stomach and the burning beneath his cheeks.
A quiet sigh passed his lips. As if there was anything to do besides remain in place. He could be the most charismatic man in the galaxy, and it wouldn’t matter. There was more that stood between him and you than his own gracelessness. A soldier speaking to a princess would be shut down well before he began fumbling the conversation.
So, he stayed in place, perfectly unassuming, trying to stifle the wish to get one more glance at you. Waiting.
Just for the night.
“Commander… we might have a problem.”
The chirp of Cody’s commlink brought him out of his silent moping. He pressed his fingers to his helmet.
“What is it?” he asked.
A pause. No reply. Cody nearly called in again, when another soldier called in.
“Commander! We have hostiles approaching from the northern ridge!”
“Close ranks! We’re being overrun!”
Cody opened his mouth to give orders, when suddenly, the stained glass dome above the ballroom shattered. In the glow of the moon, a fleet of droids crashed through the ceiling, landing among the nobles below. The ballroom erupted into chaos, nobles running and screaming as the droids readied their weapons.
“This planet is under Separatist control!” cried a battle droid as it paced among the crowd. “We demand that the princess be brought to us for immediate execution!”
Execution?
Cody sprung to action, scanning through the crowd, hoping to find you before the droids could. At last, his eyes spotted the sparkling tiara in the sea of panicked nobles. Try as you might to move to safety, too many shoving partygoers kept you locked in place.
And what was worse was the imposing shadow of a B2 battle droid stalking up behind you, growing closer by the second.
Barging through the crowd, Cody sprinted to your position. The B2 stopped in place a few paces from you, slowly lifting its arm into firing position. Cody’s eyes shot wide.
“Princess!” he shouted.
He barely managed to catch your attention before breaking through the mob, collapsing upon you just as the B2 fired its wrist rocket.
The two of you crashed to the ground, Cody doing his best to keep you in his arms and shield you from the heat of the explosion. When the blast faded, he pulled away, quickly getting to his feet and helping you do the same.
“Princess, it’s not safe here,” Cody called over the commotion. “We need to go!”
The frazzled, frightened face that looked back at him made his heart ache. But the small, half-lucid nod you gave him was enough for him. He kept your hand in his as he began guiding you to safety.
The two of you ran, Cody steering you away from any possible threat. As he pulled you up the grand staircase you’d entered from, he triggered his commlink.
“This is Commander Cody; I have the princess,” he spoke. “We are moving for evacuation. Hold out as long as you can!”
As he burst through the ballroom doors, he turned sharply down an adjacent hallway, looking over his shoulder at you.
“Princess, what’s the fastest way to the landing platform?” he called. For a moment, you were too dazed to answer, and Cody’s brow furrowed. “Stay with me, Princess. The landing platform?”
“Take… take the next left,” you answered at last. Your voice was soft—far too soft for what you’d endured that night. “There’s a ship on the landing platform… my ship—we can use that.”
Cody nodded firmly, following your instructions to the letter. Through the echoed sounds of attack, you and Cody emerged onto the landing platform, where a small golden vessel awaited you. Cody wasn’t worried about where the two of you were headed—for now, offworld was all that mattered.
Together, you boarded your starship. Once Cody ensured you were situated in the ship’s living quarters, he rushed to the cockpit. Before the droids could grow wise to where you’d run off to, he picked the ship off the ground, navigating to the temporary reprieve of hyperspace.
, , ,
“Troubling news, this is…”
Cody stood in the cockpit of your ship, looking upon holograms of the two Master Jedi to whom he relayed the news. It was rare he had an audience with Master Yoda, but General Kenobi’s presence was familiar.
“More than troubling,” General Kenobi agreed. “To attack a peaceful gathering entirely unprovoked… the Separatists have gotten bolder.”
Master Yoda nodded, his chin clutched between his fingers. “Indeed. What they were seeking, I wonder?”
“I believe I can answer that, General,” Cody spoke at last. “Assassinating the princess seems to be the likely motivation. If the Separatists were to install their own leader, the planet would act as an important staging ground for future attacks on the Mid-Rim.”
“And save her, you did?”
“Yes, sir,” Cody confirmed. “She’s in stable condition aboard this vessel.”
Cody’s eyes lingered to the living quarters of the ship, where you had been since the two of you fled the planet. You’d kept quiet so far, unmoving from the bench you sat on. It struck Cody with an inexplicable worry.
“Good. Make sure she remains that way,” General Kenobi instructed. “The Separatists will be hunting her even now. You’ll need to ensure they aren’t able to find her.”
“Undercover, you must go,” Master Yoda added. “Refuge, on a nearby planet, must you seek. Until the princess’s planet, liberated, it is.”
Cody’s jaw tensed.
“And… how long will it take to muster enough forces and reclaim her world?” he asked.
“We believe we will have the required numbers in ten rotations,” General Kenobi answered.
Ten rotations?
Cody stifled his surprise, masking his uncertainty with his usual stoic expression.
“Understood, General,” he answered with a curt nod.
“Good,” General Kenobi answered. “Until we contact you, keep a low profile. And do not let anything happen to her.”
“That will be all, Commander,” Master Yoda said. The slightest smile appeared on the corners of his lips as he added, “May the Force be with you.”
The holograms before him dissipated, leaving Cody alone. He released the heavy sigh that he’d harbored in his chest. Ten rotations. To think that hours ago, this had been a mere pit stop on his way back to Coruscant, where he could await redeployment to a battlefront in need of his support. Now, it had become a full-fledged mission of its own…
Again, Cody glanced towards the back hold, seeing that you still hadn’t budged from where you sat. You stared hard at nothing, but he could tell that the violence of the droid army still flashed before your eyes. A wave of guilt washed over the commander. For him, this was just another assignment in years of war. But for you, your entire life had changed—taken from you with no warning and no remorse. If ten rotations was truly all it would take to see your world returned to you, it would be a blessing.
Treading quietly, Cody approached you. As he grew closer, he could make out more and more lesions on your skin. He tried not to grimace, but the sight of injuries on someone so beautiful ate at him. Though he was thankful you were still alive, he faulted himself for not being able to protect you from all the harm you’d endured that night.
“Princess…” he began. Immediately, you blinked out of your stupor, turning your attention to him. “I’ve received word that the Republic will be mounting a campaign to retake your world. But in the meantime, we’ll need to take you into hiding to ensure there are no more threats to your life.”
Your shoulders slumped.
“I see,” you murmured. “For how long?”
“We’re estimating around ten rotations.”
“Oh.”
It didn’t take a Jedi to discern the worry on your face, but in short order, you put on a smile. Right away, Cody knew it looked wrong—polite, pretty, but not at all real. Not anything like the warm smile you’d shown him when you first passed by him.
“Thank you, sir, for informing me,” you said.
Your gaze fell to the floor, and the smile you’d forced onto your features fell along with it. Cody thought to take his leave, but couldn’t. Not yet. He didn’t want to abandon you in an empty hold, on a ship with an unknown soldier, to remain all by your lonesome. If he’d learned one thing from General Kenobi’s leadership, it was just how far a modicum of kindness could take you.
And for you, he could certainly be kind.
“Are you… all right?” he asked. His stilted voice made him wince. He hoped you didn’t take his rigidness as disrespect—he just wasn’t used to this. Any of it.
You offered a weak nod in response.
“I’ll be fine,” you assured him. “I… I think I’m still a bit out of sorts, is all. Thank you for your concern.”
 Cody took a seat beside you on the bench—though making sure to keep an overly respectful distance from you.
“It… must be hard for you. Leaving your home behind so suddenly,” he continued.
You shook your head halfheartedly.
“I’m not worried about me. I’m worried about my people,” you sighed. “We’ve resisted Separatist occupation for so long. I shouldn’t be in hiding while they suffer.”
Cody watched you as your hands trembled, your brow knit with worry. The pain you held ran deeper than your wounds from the attack, and that much was obvious even to him. Cody solved his problems with a blaster more often than he did with words, but for you, he felt compelled to try.
“If it means anything, Princess… I’m sure your people are just as concerned for your well-being,” Cody spoke at last. Your gaze met his once more, and the sincerity in your eyes nearly paralyzed him. He dashed his nervousness with an awkward cough. “The Republic values your world and your people. As soon as the necessary forces are able to deploy, I have complete confidence that you will be returned home with no further struggles against the Separatists. We won’t let you down, Princess.”
The hold fell silent. Your eyes, sparkling in the glow of hyperspace, peered into his. Although his sheepishness begged him to look away, he stared back at you. When at last a small grin formed on your lips, Cody wasn’t sure whether to feel relieved or petrified.
“... I don’t believe you ever told me your name, sir,” you mentioned.
Cody gave an awkward nod. “It’s… Commander Cody, your highness.”
Your smile widened.
“Cody…” you repeated. The sound of his name on your lips made Cody’s face burn. “I’m thankful to have your company through all of this. I can’t imagine how much worse things could have been without your intervention. I owe you my life.”
In all his time on the front lines of this war, Cody had rarely been thanked. He never expected to be—he was quite literally born for this conflict, so gratitude was far from necessary. But knowing for once that his actions had meaning—that he was valued not merely as part of an army, but as an individual… it made his chest ache.
His gaze broke from yours, glancing away in hopes of slowing his rapid pulse.
“Of course, Princess. It’s what we’re here for,” he assured you. “Though… I should apologize.”
You tilt your head. “What for?”
His eyes returned to you; when he saw the bruises forming on your arms, he frowned.
“I’ve had better rescues,” he confessed. “I didn’t mean to throw you off your feet like that. I should’ve been more careful.”
To his surprise, a gentle laugh escaped you. He grimaced, wondering if he’d said something wrong. With a shake of your head, you rested your hand on his shoulder.
“Cody… a few bruises are no cost at all for staying alive to wear them,” you assured him. “I’d prefer getting knocked over by you to becoming a victim of the Separatists any day.”
The warmth of your touch and your smile seeped through Cody’s armor. Suddenly, the prospect of spending a few rotations ensuring your safety no longer troubled him so much. “Well… good,” he said. “Though, if you don’t mind, I’d prefer not to make a habit of barging into you—whether or not you prefer it.”
You beamed. Cody swore he saw the faintest blush on your cheeks.
“Just for special occasions, then?” you teased.
Cody chuckled, allowing his guard to drop for the first time that evening.
“If that’s what you want to call it… sure,” he replied.
 Something about the kindness you showed him made the war feel so distant, even in spite of all it had taken to get the two of you here. At your side, maybe ten rotations would feel like no time at all.
In the back of his mind, a small part of Cody even wondered if ten rotations was long enough.
, , ,
The transition to life on a quiet planet hadn’t been kind to either of you, but thankfully, having one another meant the struggle was not so overwhelming. Cody had taken a number of precautions from the moment you touched down—finding accommodations far from the nearest town center and ensuring that as few locals as possible even knew of your existence. The two of you had lived there in isolation for a few days now, in a little domicile out in the woodlands. And while those first few days were tense with worry, they were thankfully uneventful.
At first, Cody had tried to keep himself distant from you. He had little knowledge of what the life of a royal might entail, but something told him that fraternizing with a common soldier was probably considered an etiquette breach of some kind. But despite his attempts at maintaining decorum, every kind gesture made your company irresistible to him. Each time you brewed a pot of caf in the morning, you would offer him a mug. His rations were always tended to before your own. Even at night, you wouldn’t sleep before ensuring there wasn’t something he needed your help with. Compared to his typical soldier’s life, you treated him like royalty—a bit of irony that was far from lost on him.
The uneventful days meant the two of you had ample time to talk. You clearly had experience with speaking, having penned and performed countless speeches on your homeworld. But the way you talked to Cody felt different from any senate address he had ever heard. You spoke so fondly of things you missed from your homeworld, memories that you could glow about for hours. Cody was content to let you, though admittedly, there were times he found his attention drifting from your words—watching instead the way your eyes would glitter, your lips would purse, your cheeks would blush.
Of course, you turned the conversation to him just as often. Cody initially struggled to match your enthusiasm, not one to hold such a romantic memory of most anything. But you quickly found a way through his shell when you landed on the topic of his brothers—the only family he had, and the one he devoted himself fiercely to. Something about your attentive gaze and warm smiles made it easy for Cody to open up to you in a way he had never even considered opening up to anyone else.
Your talks served as such a fitting distraction, in fact, that you barely noticed just how much time had passed the two of you by. Both of you were caught by surprise the day you awoke to no caf left to brew—and hardly any rations, to match.
Faced with the options of going hungry or making the trek to the nearby marketplace for supplies, Cody chose the latter. He had grappled for an hour whether it was wiser to leave you alone in the domicile where you might be safer, but lack his protection. However, you made the decision for him—insisting that you would be joining him no matter what he had to say about it.
He hadn’t been so keen on the idea, at first. But as he watched you browse the bustling farmer’s market, he warmed to it quickly enough.
As the two of you roamed around the marketplace, you stopped for what Cody estimated to be the tenth time in the past hour, taking an interest in a hand-woven tapestry hanging on a stall.
“Hmm…” you hummed, taking in the uniquely knitted fabric.
Cody tilted his head, a smirk on his lips. “Enjoying yourself?”
You returned to his side, grinning up at him.
“I am, thank you,” you returned, speaking in stride as the two of you began walking again. “Have some sympathy, will you? I’m lucky if I get to leave my palace once a cycle.”
When another patron skirted a bit too close for comfort, you didn’t hesitate to walk nearer to Cody’s side. It swelled a strange sense of pride in him, knowing that you trusted him enough to keep you safe. To be your protector. He swore to never make you regret that trust.
“I’m just… trying to act natural,” you continued.  “I’ve never had to get supplies for myself, as strange as that is to admit.” You look up at him curiously. “Do you think we stick out at all?”
A dry smirk found Cody’s lips.
“What, a clone and a princess on a planet of farmers? I can’t imagine how we would,” he snarked.
When you donned that sweet, flustered grin, Cody’s smile widened.
“You’re mean,” you teased.
“You make it easy.”
With a roll of your eyes, you checked satchel on your hip.
“Well… since we have almost everything, I don’t think I’ll have to endure your cruelty for much longer, at least,” you pointed out. “I think we’re just missing…”
Before your sentence ended, a clamor from further up in the marketplace interrupted you. Cody placed a hand on your shoulder, holding you close as the scene developed. At first, he could only make out the sight of fleeing patrons and frightened stall owners hastily stowing their merchandise.
But then, that familiar, metallic clanking droned into Cody’s ears, and he knew.
The Separatists were here.
A full squad of droids trampled into view on the dirt road, kicking up clouds of dust behind them. At the center, a B1 barked orders at the civilians.
“Attention, citizens! There is a royal fugitive hiding on your planet. Bring her to us, or face the consequences!”
As the droids advanced, you stiffened. Given the unlikelihood of a different princess running from Separatist forces somewhere on this world, these droids were here for you. And if the two of you didn’t act quickly, they just might find you.
Cody’s eyes narrowed, donning the Commander’s mindset with ease. He reached for your wrist, taking extra care to be gentle in fear of reliving the first time he rescued you.
“This way,” he said, his voice hushed. With deft strides, he led you through the crowd—all of whom seemed far too distracted by the encroaching droids to notice just who was passing by them.
Cody’s eyes scanned the marketplace, and the moment he spotted an alleyway behind a few abandoned stalls, he began formulating an exit strategy. But his swiftly-made plan met almost immediately with challenges. A separate squad of droids approaching from a few dozen meters off prepared to slam his only window of opportunity shut.
With no time to explain, Cody slipped his arm around your waist, sweeping you toward the alleyway alongside him. Just as you entered the shadows, he pressed you against the wall, leaning his hand against the brick surface in such a way that the shawl on his shoulder fully obscured you from the main thoroughfare.
At first, Cody listened closely to the sound of the droids stalking past, counting the paces as their metallic frames shambled down the street. Only when his focus returned to the sight directly in front of him did he realize just how close you were as he loomed over you now.
Years of outmaneuvering droids made the invading Separatists all but mundane. Standing chest to chest with you, his lips a mere tilt of his head from yours… that was what sent his heart racing at lightspeed.
“Ah… a-apologies, Princess,” he murmured, his gaze trying to meet anything but you. He silently chastised himself, unable to imagine how daunted you must feel by his actions.
But it was your touch on his cheek that pulled him back to reality—and the gentle guidance of your hand that pulled his gaze back to yours. The smile you wore drew a blush to his cheeks.
“Cody…” you spoke softly. His name… you made it sound so perfect. “You have nothing to apologize for. I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t here.”
Cody could only hope the droids were long gone, as the only sound he could hear clearly was the pounding pulse in his ears. The weight of your words hit his chest like a speeder, leaving him hopeless to muster any meaningful response.
“...o-of course,” was all he could utter. With all his strength, he found the slightest smile of his own, holding your gaze until he could no longer handle the sight of you without losing sight of himself. “It is my honor to protect you, Princess.”
When at last he looked away, he drew a steadying breath. From the sound of it, the droids outside the alleyway had passed. A relief, but not a great one, since the challenge of escaping the city still remained.
However reluctantly, Cody pulled himself away from you, though keeping a hand on your waist to ensure you stayed at his side. A cautious glance out of the alleyway revealed no additional droids—a promising sign.
“We need to keep moving,” Cody said, staying vigilant as he walked you through the market. “We’re nearly at the edge of town. If we can get clear of the market and into the forest—”
“You! Stop right there!”
The shrill, tinny voice of a battle droid brought Cody to a halt for a mere moment. The rhythmic clanking approached from behind the two of you.
“Identify yourselves, citizens!” the droid hissed as it got nearer. Cody didn’t respond. The droid stalked ever closer. “Are your auditory processors working? Identification—now!”
Cody squeezed your hip, leaning in just close enough for you to hear him whisper.
“Run.”
Abruptly, he released you from his grasp, whirling around and ripping his pistol from its thigh holster along the way. He needed only a split second to spot the droid—and shorter still to fire a shot into its head.
The sound of blaster fire alerted the dozens of other droids scattered around the marketplace, drawing them all in perfect pace to the location of their fallen comrade. Not wanting to give them an easy shot, Cody took off running the same direction you had.
As he ran, he looked ahead, trying but failing to see you—especially now that the blaster fire had stirred the remaining civilians into a frenzy. He kept faith that you’d listened to him and ran, unable to do much more with the droids’ stray blaster bolts ringing by his ears. He darted through the mob, tuning out every distraction—the clamor of the crowd, the dust plumes kicked up by the droids’ blasters...
“Cody!”
Your voice, however, always seemed to get his attention.
Cody locked his legs, sliding to an abrupt halt against the dusty road. He whipped his head in the direction of your voice, and at last, he spotted you taking cover behind a market stall. You waved him over to you, and as he ran, he saw why you’d chosen here, of all places, to wait for him.
Parked beside the stall was an abandoned speeder bike ripe for the taking.
As Cody arrived at your side, he stopped only briefly to set his hand on your shoulder.
“Are you all right?” he asked.
You nodded. “I’m fine. I found this speeder—”
“Already on it,” Cody interjected. Before he turned to the speeder, he handed you his blaster. “Have you ever used one of these?”
“Once or twice. O-Only for ceremonies…”
“Good enough,” he grunted, already on his knees to slice the speeder’s controls. “If any droid gets close, point it and fire.”
Cody tried to ignore the impending march of the clankers, rewiring the bike as quickly as he could manage. He’d nearly cracked it when he heard a blaster bolt ring out at his side, and a metallic pang some dozen meters behind him. He didn’t dare risk a glance over his shoulder to take in your handiwork, but beneath his adrenaline, he felt the smallest tinge of pride.
At last, the speeder’s engine revved to life. Cody got to his feet, finding you standing over the crumpled body of a B1. You gripped his blaster with white knuckles, hands trembling ever so slightly, just waiting for another clanker to try its luck. Biting back a smirk, Cody took the pistol from your hands.
“Nice shot,” he said quickly. With his free hand, he helped sit you on the front of the speeder. “Hold on tight. Once we get moving—”
“Cody, look out!”
You pointed past Cody with wide eyes, and he had barely a moment to follow your gaze as another droid rounded the corner. Just as it raised its blaster and fired, you yanked Cody down by his wrist. The bolt that would’ve been in Cody’s chest instead singed his shoulder, and Cody was glad he was alive to feel the pain that coursed from his wound.
Fumbling for his pistol, Cody fired two shots—managing to drop the droid with the second. But as it fell, even more came to replace it. With gritted teeth, Cody clambered onto the speeder behind you.
“Your shoulder…!” you cried, looking upon his wound with wide eyes.
“I’ll be fine,” he grunted. “Hold on!”
Pushing through his pain, Cody clasped the bike’s handlebars. The engine roared, launching the bike forward and gaining speed by the second. A hail of blasterfire flew around the two of you, and Cody veered as well as he could manage to avoid it. Once the speeder cleared through the treeline, the bolts became fewer and fewer, until at last, none at all chased after you. , , ,
The adrenaline driving Cody subsided little by little on the long ride back to the domicile. By the time the two of you arrived, the stinging wound on his shoulder had begun to ache and burn. Even so, he forced himself to keep his priorities straight—which meant tending to you, first and foremost.
When he parked the speeder, he got to his feet, before reaching his hand down to help you stand. To his surprise, though, you stared back at him in horror.
“Princess…?” he breathed.
Tears welled in the corners of your eyes.
“Cody… w-we need to get inside,” you instructed.
You dismounted the bike, only taking his hand to lead him indoors. You slammed the door behind him, a shaky breath leaving your lips as you sat him down on a chaise in the living quarters. Cody watched you, confused as you began to rifle through cabinets.
“Princess, what’s wrong?” he asked.
You didn’t answer, merely shaking your head. He could see the way your hands trembled as you fished the bacta patches out from one of the cabinets. When you turned to face him again, the glow of the sunset through the windows was just enough to light the tears on your face.
You sat beside him, and before he could say a word, you reached for the collar of his shirt. His chest seized as your nimble fingers ran down his body, too nervous to even breathe. One by one, you unhooked the fasteners, before carefully stripping the fabric from him. Seeing the wound on his shoulder more clearly now only made you cry harder, forcing you to pinch your eyes shut as you prepared a bacta patch.
Realizing now what had you so worked up, Cody found the ghost of a smile.
“Hey… it’s all right,” he promised. “I’ve taken worse hits than this. I’ll be fine.”
You sniffled, wiping away your tears with the back of your hand before carefully affixing the bacta patch to the wound on his shoulder. Your hands lingered there, reddened eyes unmoving from his injury.
Against his better judgment, Cody put his hand on your cheek. Gently, he turned your gaze to meet his.
“Princess, please,” he begged. When more tears slipped from your eyes, he swept them away with his thumb. “Please, tell me what’s wrong.”
Your lips parted slightly, but still, you struggled to speak. Cody’s heart ached at your hesitation; he leaned closer to you, running his thumb softly against your cheekbone. To his relief, you leaned into his touch, sighing and calming down.
“This is all happening because of me,” you confessed at last.
Cody tilted his head. “What do you mean?”
“None of this would’ve happened if the Separatists weren’t hunting me. You… you got hurt because of me.” Despite your best efforts, tears overwhelmed you again. “You could’ve died… and it would’ve been my fault.”
Your sorrow ate away at Cody. Never had he felt this irrepressible instinct—the desire to pull you into his arms, to hold you against his chest and promise you over and over that everything would be all right. He’d make it all right for you. Someone like you didn’t deserve to feel this way… and certainly not on his behalf.
Though he wished he could break that barrier, the most he could manage was placing his other hand against your cheek—cupping your face softly. He gazed into your glassy, beautiful eyes, struggling to find the words to convey everything on his mind.
“Princess…” he began softly, “please, listen to me. None of this is your fault. Believe me, the Separatists have no trouble shooting at me whether or not I’m with you.”
You pouted. “But I—”
Cody pinched your cheek playfully. “Hey. Just listen.”
To his utmost relief, the slightest smile formed on your lips. But though he was glad to see it, it made what he planned to say next all the more difficult.
“If anything… I’m happy I was the one to take a hit today. I don’t know what I would’ve done if something happened to you under my protection,” he continued. His words felt strangled in his throat, and every passing second begged him to find the courage to speak. “I… I would do anything for you, Princess. I… um…”
Looking into your eyes—seeing just how beautiful, soft, and breathtaking you appeared in the bloom of the setting sun… Cody couldn’t finish his thought. The words that lingered on his tongue held such consequence—both for him and for you. He couldn’t say which he feared more: that you might reject him, or that you might not.
But as always, you saw through him. You leaned in closer, resting one of your hands on his.
“You what?” you prompted him, gazing fondly into his eyes.
Unable to deny you, Cody drove himself to speak.
“I… care about you.”
It wasn’t what he truly wished to say. But in your eyes, he knew you understood.
“Cody…”
His name on your lips drove him mad. But your lips on his sent him spiraling.
Every glance he’d stolen at your lips never could have prepared him for the feeling of kissing you like this. What little distance remained between the two of you melted away, and the uncharacteristic hesitation that had plagued Cody since the day he met you finally left him. Knowing that you felt just as strongly as he did finally allowed him to be his true self. It compelled him to serve you as more than just a soldier.
Nothing but a word from you could have stopped Cody then—from carrying you to your bed, from laying you carefully upon your sheets, from gently stripping the fabric from your figure. Your hands minded his injury as they ran over his skin, but he had forgotten about it long ago. His only concern was you.
“Cody…”
His name dripped from your lips like honey as he worked his way down your body, marking inch after inch of your form with delicate kisses. It was a softness he hadn’t believed himself capable of. But every fleeting, tender touch you graced him with inspired something in his heart. He had never been loved before; he was a soldier, built for battle and nothing more. And yet, you treated him with such care—as though he might break from too swift a touch. In a way, he supposed it was true. The mere feeling of being cared for swelled his heart so full that he feared it might burst.
No, he had never been loved before. And if this was to be the last time, he wanted to relish it utterly.
“Cody…”
He couldn’t say which he was drunk on more: the sound of your voice as you breathed his name, or the wetness he lapped between your legs. With your fingers roaming through his hair, his head held snugly between your thighs, there was nowhere else in the galaxy that could’ve filled Cody with such bliss. Every twist of your hips, every arch of your back, every hitch of your breath only drove him to please you more.
“Cody…”
You looked so beautiful as he loomed over you now. The warm dusk painted your skin, though your cheeks burned red without it. And your smile… even as he ran his thumb along your lips, even as he trailed his length against your sex, it never faded from your face. You wore it just for him, and he would not take that privilege for granted.
Only when he pressed into you did the overwhelming pleasure turn your expression to something different, but he didn’t fret, choosing to meet your lips with his, instead.
“Cody…!”
In an eternity and an instant, he could feel himself unraveling. It took all his strength to keep from succumbing to the agonizing, heavenly warmth you enveloped him with. How could he, when you still needed him? Lips lavishing your neck, hands tangled in your hair, he buried himself in you over and over. While your nails dragged across his back, your voice grew hoarse from whimpers and moans. He knew you were close—so horribly, painfully close.
When his hand trailed down across your form, and his fingers grazed the aching point between your legs, you cried his name for the last time that night.
“Cody!”
Wave after wave of your release shuddered through you, the sensation spelling Cody’s end, all the same. Your ankles locked around him, holding him in your depths as he filled you with his warmth. Trembling and spent, Cody barely managed to keep himself from collapsing on you, maintaining his balance just long enough to meet you in a soft, tender kiss—one that could never convey the full extent of his adoration.
Reluctantly, he pulled away from you, if only to join you at the head of the bed. As the heat of your encounter faded, an inkling of uncertainty entered Cody’s mind again. His hands longed for you, but as before, your titles stood in his way. He feared being improper, offending you somehow even after the love you’d shared…
But, to his utmost thankfulness, you were not about to let him flounder. Unabashed, you worked your way into his arms, burrowing yourself against his broad chest. The mere sight overwhelmed Cody with warmth. With no further doubts, he embraced you, dotting kiss after loving kiss upon your head.
After a moment, he leaned back, if only to look upon you. Again, you met him with that smile—the one he would never tire of, and the one he hoped you would wear any time he was near. Gently, he pressed his lips to your forehead.
“Princess…” he hummed. “I…”
You bumped your nose on his. “Yes, Cody?”
He sighed. There remained no part of him that could resist you now.
“I love you.”
His heart did not race at his words, nor did yours. Your smile merely widened, and you snaked your arms around his neck, drawing him in for yet another kiss. His confession was no shock to either of you. You’d had his love from the moment he first laid eyes on you. But what you said in turn—however much he had hoped to hear it—he still felt unprepared for.
“I love you, too.”
The moons rose over the horizon as the two of you shared in each others’ affection, and Cody had never been so content. Even as he drifted off, holding you in his arms, he thought not of the war, the Separatists, the dangers he might face come morning.
Only you.
,,,
That morning, you hadn’t brewed Cody a mug of caf, as was routine. But given there was no force in the galaxy that could pry you from his arms, he had to forgive you.
Lazy mornings felt strange to Cody—and lazy mornings in the embrace of a beautiful woman, even stranger. His fondest dreams could never compare to the sight of you waking up on his chest, eyes full of love as they looked upon him for the first time that day.
Gently, he set his hand against your cheek, beckoning your lips closer. You offered a soft kiss, with barely enough weight to graze your lips against his. Cody could feel you smile against him, and he could only smile, in turn.
“Good morning, Princess,” he hummed, trailing languid kisses along your jaw. “Now what has you smiling at this hour?”
His teasing only served to widen your grin. You giggled—not stopping when his lips continued down your neck.
“Oh, nothing, really… I suppose I’m just in good spirits,” you sighed. Your hands ran along Cody’s shoulders, slipping up his neck until you buried your fingers in his hair. “It’s entirely possible that it has something to do with waking up next to such a handsome man, but… I can’t be sure.”
Cody chuckled. His lips had reached your collarbone now, and he had no desire to stop lavishing you anytime soon.
“You can’t, can you?” he echoed. “What would it take to make you sure?”
As he asked his question, Cody’s calloused hands slipped up your thighs, roving over your hips and up your gorgeous frame. His touch drew the faintest gasp from your lips, emboldening him ever more. Though the night you shared had exhilarated Cody beyond his wildest dreams, he couldn’t help but long for more of you. And judging by the way your back arched against him, you hadn’t had your fill of him, either.
“Cody…” A whimper passed your lips when his hands cupped your chest. Through a love-drunk smile, you breathed, “I love you…”
Cody hummed softly, intoxicated from the caress of your fingers along his scalp. He kissed along your sternum, reveling in your every sound.
“I love you, more…”
The shrill beeping from the strewn pile of Cody’s clothes on the floor startled both of you, a cruel return to reality. With a heavy sigh, Cody shook his head. If someone was making the effort to reach him on an undercover operation, it had to be important… much to his displeasure.
Wrapping you tightly in his arms, he offered a kiss to your forehead as a parting gift.
“You stay put,” he instructed playfully. “No getting into trouble while I’m gone.”
You rolled your eyes and bumped your nose against his. “I’ll try.”
With a heavy sigh, Cody left the warmth of the bed and your arms behind, making himself presentable for whomever awaited on the other end of the ringing commlink. Once he was dressed, he stepped out of your bedroom, ensuring the door closed firmly behind him. Alone in the main room of the domicile, he accepted the incoming transmission.
“General Kenobi,” Cody spoke as the Jedi flickered to life on the holoprojector.
“Good morning, Cody,” General Kenobi answered. “It feels like it’s been ages since we’ve talked. How are you getting on?”
Cody swallowed the immediate fear that shot through him, forgetting for a moment that the general was looking for a situation report—not any summary of what trouble his commander may have gotten into the night prior.
“We’re… surviving,” Cody replied. “We had a close call yesterday—some Separatist deployments have made their way to this planet looking for the princess, and they nearly found her, too. But we were able to evade them without incident.”
“I see,” the general hummed, stroking his beard. “I suppose this news will be a relief, then. We’ve successfully liberated the princess’s homeworld, so the two of you won’t need to fend for yourselves any longer.”
Cody’s eyes went wide.
“Already?” he uttered.
“You sound surprised.”
“Well… i-it’s just that it’s only been eight rotations,” Cody floundered, trying to recover. “I was expecting we’d be here longer, but… that’s… good to hear, General.”
“I’m glad,” General Kenobi returned. “I’ll be on the lookout for an update or your arrival. May the Force be with you, Commander.”
“Thank you, sir. We’ll be there soon.”
The hologram dissipated, and Cody’s heart sank along with it. As a Marshal Commander, it was rare for him to lose track of… well, anything. But it seemed he’d gotten so wrapped up in this little fantasy with you that he forgot the caveats that came along with it—most notably, that it would eventually come to an end. It was bittersweet: on one hand, he was thankful to know your planet was safe, and he would be eager to return to his brothers…
…but on the other, the mere thought of leaving you behind twisted his stomach into knots.
Sighing, Cody pinched the bridge of his nose. He supposed all that remained was to break the news to you. But he couldn’t say why his feet stayed put—why he couldn’t bring himself to open the bedroom door again.
“I’m guessing it’s bad news for you, too…?”
Your voice brought Cody back from his brooding. When he turned, he found you wrapped up in one of his shawls, leaning against the doorway with a sad smirk on your lips. The sun bathed your skin in a radiant glow that made you look simply ethereal.
As if the universe couldn’t make this any harder on him…
Cody returned to you, his hands slipping around your waist. He could see the disappointment in your smile; even as you draped your arms over his shoulders, resting your forehead on his, you didn’t beam as brightly as you had before. Cody couldn’t blame you—his smile was just as somber.
“Yeah. I didn’t realize how long it’s been,” he sighed. With a bitter chuckle, he added, “I guess that’ll teach me to train my battalion so well. If they were worse soldiers, we might’ve had more time.”
Though his words earned a giggle from you, it didn’t linger. Before long, you fell quiet again, and Cody couldn’t bring himself to break the silence. He held you close, safe and sound in his arms. His hands ran up and down your back, and he planted kiss after lazy kiss upon your head. All while his mind raced.
What could he say? The options overwhelmed him, but not one felt like enough to make up for the reality of the situation. I love you with all I am. I wish we had more time. I want to marry you.
“Are you going to stay?”
Your voice caught Cody by surprise. He leaned back, if only to meet your eyes. When he did, he found you looking back at him with the slightest sorrow.
“What?” he asked.
The ghost of a smile formed on your lips, your gaze bashfully falling from his.
“You don’t have to go, you know… and I don’t have to go back to my homeworld. We can stay together, just the two of us.” As you spoke, your fingers trembled against his skin. “I know it’s a forlorn hope, and it’s asking a lot, but… I want to stay with you. I love you, Cody. I don’t want you to go.”
When your gaze met his again, your misty eyes pleaded with him.
“Will you stay with me, Cody? Please?”
Your words tore Cody asunder, a pain more agonizing than he’d felt on any battlefield. Pieces of him begged to stay with you—to never be without the love you showered him with, to be your protector for all his life. But as you could already tell, those pieces of him were not enough to shun his duty, his purpose. Even if he wished he could.
“Princess…” Cody sighed. From his first word alone, he saw the hope drain from your face. Though he wanted to subvert your fears—to say whatever it took to bring the light back to your eyes—he couldn’t. He owed you the full answer, as much as it hurt to hear—and to say. “I’m sorry. I love you, too… more than I ever thought was possible, I love you. But… I won’t let you give up everything for me. Your planet needs you, and my brothers need me. We can’t leave our lives behind.”
Dejected, your gaze fell from Cody’s. He could feel the tears slipping from your cheeks onto the soft fabric of his shirt. Guilt weighed on his chest, with every tear you shed crushing him further. Was he truly so cruel, to make the woman he loved more than life itself devastated like this?
He knew he had more to say. He knew it would be nowhere near enough to temper the pain of your separation. But if he could not give himself to you, he would leave you with hope to hold onto in his absence.
Gently, he took your chin between his fingers, moving your gaze back to his again.
“But Princess… I promise this isn’t the end for you and me. Even if we’re apart, I’m still yours… and I will be until the day I die.”
He pressed a soft kiss between your eyes.
“The moment this war ends, I’m boarding the first transport to your homeworld. And no matter what anyone says, I’m marrying you. I’ll spend the rest of my life making up for the time we lost. Nothing else will matter to me but you.” Though halfhearted, he managed a smirk. “Understood?”
You smiled. Even through the tears that streamed down your face, you smiled. It was real, and it was beautiful.
“Understood,” you whispered.
Softly, Cody kissed away every last one of your tears, before meeting your lips once more.
The two of you still had the day, and you both agreed to make the most of it. Packing up the little life you’d built together went slowly, interrupted countless times by kisses, conversations, lovemaking... Cody cherished every moment. He never wanted to forget the warmth of your body in his arms, the taste of you on his lips, the sound of your laughter in his ears. Soon, his senses would once more be overwhelmed by the battlefield, and he would long for these comforts in his dreams. If he couldn’t stay with you, he at least wanted to carry your memory with him.
When at last the two of you boarded your ship, ready to return to your homeworld, you were content. The pain of your imminent parting had dulled, and in its place came the bittersweet comfort of knowing you’d enjoyed what little time you had to the fullest.
The flight was uneventful, but unlike those first few days you’d spent with one another, the two of you had nothing to say. You merely held one another close, your adoration speaking for itself.
, , ,
“Your commander is to be commended for his service to this planet. Without him, I may very well not be here to retake my throne.”
You stood before the armored commander and his Jedi General, bowing your head politely to show your appreciation for their actions. In every sense, you were back where you belonged—in the halls of your palace, dressed in the finest regalia. The princess you were meant to be. But stunning though you were, Cody could not help but remember you as you had been during your time together. Dressed without concern for royal protocol, stripped down to your truest self… a side of you that was his alone to see.
From beside Cody, General Kenobi nodded graciously.
“He is an impeccable soldier. I am pleased to hear he took such good care of you,” General Kenobi said.
Cody’s heart raced, and he tried to keep a solemn face. His struggle was made all the more apparent with how easily you could mask any reaction, merely meeting the general with a kind smile.
“Indeed. I hope he is well rewarded for his assistance,” you said. For the briefest moment, your eyes met Cody’s, and your smile softened. “I’m afraid my gratitude is not nearly enough to thank him for all he has done.”
A ghost of a smile formed on Cody’s lips. He stood just a bit taller at your words.
“We’ll see to it that he is, your highness,” General Kenobi agreed. “But in the meantime, I’m afraid the war demands our attention. We wish you well, your majesty.”
You curtseyed politely before the two men.
“May luck follow you in your battles, Master Jedi,” you said. When you turned your attention once more to Cody, your expression faltered for the briefest moment. “And may luck follow you, Commander Cody.”
Cody gazed back at you, doing little to hide the feelings buried beneath the surface. Even as the General began the walk back to the transport, Cody remained—lingering just as long as he could. Savoring the sight of you until the last, desperate second. Praying to the Maker that his every thought of you could be conveyed through this last moment alone.
“Thank you… Princess.”
You smiled. Though the faintest sadness hid behind it, you meant it from the depths of your being. And even if it was unbecoming of a soldier, Cody smiled back at you.
But he knew this was not the end. Even as he finally turned away, setting his helmet upon his head and boarding the LAAT, even as he looked back to you one last time before the shuttle doors closed, he knew.
He would see you again.
Of all the places you’d hoped to be tonight, 79’s—all by yourself—had to be at the bottom of the list.
Sitting at the lonely bar, you frowned over the little martini glass swirling in your hand. You’d never been one for drinking, but if anything could compel you to take a sip of the stuff, it’d be the events that brought you here in the first place.
How could you have been so foolish? Maybe all those lessons you’d learned in the temple about forming attachments hadn’t been hollow talking, after all. You felt the lowest you’d ever been—worthless, alone… jealous. So very jealous.
“What are you doing here?”
That sly, breathy voice slithering into your ears could only belong to one person. When he took a seat beside you at the bar, you could barely manage a smirk in his direction.
“Hey, Cross,” you sighed. “Good to see you, too.”
Crosshair’s demeanor didn’t change in the slightest, but that much was normal for him. He kept his cards close to his chest—frankly, you could learn a thing or two from him in that regard.
“You’re drinking?” he observed, a hint of judgment buried in his tone. Bitterly, you rolled your eyes.
“Trying to. It’s not working out, though.” Languidly, you slid the martini glass over to him. “You make it look so easy.”
Though he caught the glass by the stem, he kept his eyes on you. You couldn’t bear to look at him. On missions, you always tried to look your squad in the eye when they spoke to you, to prove to them that you see them as your equals. Try as you might to continue that behavior off the clock, these were not ideal circumstances.
For a moment, the two of you fell silent. The low drone of music carried through the speakers, along with the chatter of the bar’s sparse attendance that evening.
“Is this because of Tech?”
Just hearing his name caused an uproar of emotions in your chest. Shame, sadness, insecurity, dejection. Though a soft chuckle parted from your lips, the heel of your hand wiped away the stray tear in the corner of your eye.
“I hoped it wasn’t that obvious…” you huffed. Crosshair hummed, idly pulling a toothpick from his belt and placing it between his lips.
“I don’t think I’d need a scope to notice,” he snarked. “What’s the problem, anyway? So he fancies someone. What about it?”
Your lip trembled, the weight of your thoughts much too heavy for your tongue to carry. It was already dangerous for a Jedi to have feelings like this, let alone for one of her soldiers. And while the Bad Batch was a bit more lenient with rules, you still felt you couldn’t be fully honest in these instances—for their sake as much as your own.
With a long sigh, you rested your head in your hands.
“I’m just… happy for him. That’s all,” you said.
Crosshair scoffed. “Clearly.”
“I am!”
“Look at you.”
“What do you want from me, Crosshair?!”
Your question came out louder than you’d expected. You looked around the bar, thankful that it held so few patrons that evening, though you were still embarrassed.
Crosshair, thankfully, didn’t seem disturbed by your outburst. He leaned in closer, looking you in the eyes.
“I want you to be honest with me,” he muttered. He jutted his finger against your sternum emphatically, “and with yourself.”
With misty eyes, you shook your head in defeat.
“I just… wanted him to like me,” you mumbled.
For the first time that night, Crosshair’s expression seemed to change. He leaned against the bar, his usually furrowed brow softening slightly.
“Tech?” he asked.
You nodded, drawing idle circles on the bartop with your finger.
“I always thought he was so sweet. I know the Order says it’s wrong, but whenever he would talk about… you know, anything, I just couldn’t help but fall for him,” you explained. “I never said anything because I didn’t want to cause problems—I’m his general, you know? I thought maybe when the war was over, I could finally tell him how I felt.”
Despite your best efforts, the slightest scowl found your lips. “But now this new girl’s here, and he’s just… smitten. It makes me wonder if he ever thought of me like that in the first place. And I…” You pinch your eyes shut, trying not to let your tears slip past. “I just feel… pathetic.”
Again, silence falls between you. The longer it lasts, the more humiliated you feel. It really would be just like Crosshair to listen to your little sob story and walk off without a word, wouldn’t it? Maybe the friendship you shared with him had been all in your head, too. Hell, maybe every last person you thought you were close with was just a surface-deep connection, and you really were alone…
“He’s a fool.”
You perked your head up, wiping your eye with the back of your hand.
“What?” you murmured.
Crosshair hummed. “You heard me.”
You pouted at him, giving his shoulder a light shove.
“Don’t say that—he’s your brother,” you scolded, “not to mention the smartest man in the galaxy…”
“I didn’t say he was stupid,” Crosshair corrected you. “He may be able to build a starship out of spare parts. But to blow his chance with you?” He clicked his tongue, shifting the toothpick from one side of his mouth to the other. “Foolish.”
A half smile found your lips. You knew you didn’t agree with him, and on any other occasion, you’d stand up for Tech. But just for tonight… just this once, despite every lesson on compassion you’d been taught since the day you arrived at the temple… it felt a little nice to hear.
“... thanks, Cross. It’s nice to know you care,” you said.
Crosshair’s intense eyes softened, his gaze leaving yours briefly. He almost looked… shy. But that seemed so unlike him.
“Well… someone had to step in,” he muttered. When his eyes met yours again, he wore a dry smirk. “Who knows how long you might have been moping otherwise?”
Your smile widened into a grin for the first time that evening.
“Right. That’s your job, isn’t it?” you snarked back at him.
Wordlessly, Crosshair got to his feet. When he started off in the direction of the door, you worried that your lighthearted jab had truly pissed him off. But before you could panic too thoroughly, he stopped in place, looking at you over his shoulder.
“Are you coming?” he asked. Caught off guard by his question, you quickly fumbled for your things. You dropped a handful of credits on the counter before hopping down from your barstool, hurrying to Crosshair’s side.
“Where are we going?” you asked, going in stride beside him.
Crosshair pulled the toothpick from his lips, flicking it expertly into the waste receptacle by the door. You walked outside, and the cool night air felt refreshing against your skin.
“I figured once you were done wallowing, I’d take you somewhere nice,” he explained, all too casual. “I’ll be damned if I spend a date in that run-down old bar…”
Date?
Now it was your turn to stop in your tracks. Crosshair walked a few steps further before noticing you hadn’t joined him. He stopped soon after, looking back at you again.
“What?” he asked.
“A date?” you returned softly.
The slightest pout formed on Crosshair’s features.
“Problem?” he asked.
Try as he might to put on that cool demeanor, you could read him better than that. In the Force, you could sense the way his heart raced in his chest, the quiet panic that built in the back of his mind.
But even without your Jedi abilities—even just as someone who’s known him as long as you had—you could see a side of him he never showed anyone. His eyes pleaded wordlessly with you: if you were to let him down, please don’t make him regret being so vulnerable. He made that mistake so rarely… and this time, he clearly hoped it wouldn’t be a mistake, at all.
To be honest, you had never looked at Crosshair with that kind of interest. Of course, every man in your squad was perfectly handsome, but with the sniper’s reserved and aloof nature, you’d assumed from day one that he tolerated you at best. But perhaps you hadn’t been looking closely enough. After all, he cared enough to watch over you on countless missions, clearing droids out of your proximity with unmatched diligence. He cared enough to follow you through short battles and long campaigns. And he cared enough to see that you were hurt tonight, giving you his shoulder to cry on.
No, you wouldn’t make him regret being vulnerable with you. In fact, you hoped you could help him see just how worthwhile it could be.
Finding a shy smile at last, you walked up to Crosshair once more—though this time, you hung on his arm as you joined his side.
“No problem at all,” you beamed. “Where are we headed then, handsome?”
You met his gaze, and his intense golden eyes looked back at you with the most sincerity you’ve ever seen from them. When he looked away at last, a flustered smirk appeared on his lips.
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” he snarked.
You rolled your eyes, though the bright smile you wore never left your face. Though the night hadn’t begun as you’d hoped, ending it on the arm of someone who could make you smile despite it all meant the galaxy to you.
You only hoped this could be the first date of many with the sniper who stole your heart.
It all happened so fast.
Just hours ago, you had been on Pabu. Just hours ago, you had been basking in the setting sun, feeling content in a way you hadn’t in months. You’d had your family—even Echo had returned. You’d had the promise of a future far from war.
Just hours ago, you’d had everything you’d ever wanted. And in an instant, it disappeared.
Though the Marauder’s engines struggled loudly against the vacuum of space, its hold had never fallen so quiet. Four of you remained now, and plenty waited to be said. But none of you could say a word—too mournful of the voices that could no longer respond.
Eventually, Hunter and Echo managed to speak to one another, distracting themselves with plans for what to do next. What little you could bring yourself to pay attention to sounded half-hearted at best. And while you wished you could help, something else nagged at your mind… that ‘something’ being the big, lovable clone whose typical exuberance was nowhere to be found.
Glancing toward the gunner’s chair, you saw the shadow of his hulking frame against the blue glow of hyperspace. He hadn’t budged from that spot since a short while after leaving Ord Mantell. In his hands, he clutched his Lula doll, his weary eyes glued to her. Every now and then, he’d raise the back of his hand to wipe his eyes.
Your chest ached. Though you all had much to grieve for, Wrecker’s big heart seemed to weigh heavier than all of yours combined. The poor thing felt so deeply, and while you loved that about him, you knew it had to make moments like this hurt even more than their already excruciating pain.
But while what you had all endured left you broken and bruised, you thanked the stars that you still had each other—and you would make sure he knew he still had you.
Quietly, you rose from your seat on the floor of the Marauder’s cockpit, walking to the back of the ship and ascending the small ladder into the gunner’s mount. With a gentle hand on Wrecker’s shoulder, you took a seat on his lap. He didn’t hesitate for a moment, his big arms draping around you like a protective blanket as they pulled you against his chest. Pained though he was, you could feel his heartbeat steady with you so close. He drew a long sigh; when you glanced up at him, you could see his eyes had pinched shut, brows furrowed as his trembling fingers raked through your hair.
With a sad smile, you whispered, “Hey, you.”
Despite his pain, he still managed to find a little smile to match yours, warming your heart.
“Hey, you…” he answered. His smile fell soon after, and his lips grazed the top of your head in a chaste kiss. “I’m… I’m sorry.”
“Oh, Wrecker…” you cooed, nuzzling your head as gently into your neck as you could without disturbing the brace he wore. You rested your hand on his cheek, heart aching when he leaned into your touch. “What are you sorry for, sweetheart?”
Wrecker thought for a moment, his sweet eyes looking out the Marauder’s rear window. Eventually, he sighed, shrugging a shoulder.
“I… I don’t know,” he murmured. “I guess ‘cause… I should be helping you three come up with a plan. I’m not doing anyone any good by just moping around.”
The way he stared at nothing, reluctant to meet your gaze, told you without words that he felt the need to apologize for more than just that. In his eyes, the loss of his siblings was his failure alone. He hadn’t been strong enough to save Tech aboard the railcar, and he hadn’t been strong enough to face the commandos who barged into Cid’s looking for Omega. Every step he took from then on would carry that weight on his shoulders. But you were not about to let him carry it alone.
“Wrecker, sweetheart,” you whispered. “Look at me… okay?”
Gently, your hand directed him to face you, and the sorriest eyes you’ve ever seen looked into yours. As soon as he met your gaze, more tears dampened his cheeks. You could hardly bear the sight, cooing his name again as you kissed away his tears.
“It wasn’t your fault,” you promised. “None of us could have done anything different. It’s not your fault, sweetheart…”
Wrecker’s frame trembled beneath you. His face burned red, and he pinched his nose with a frustrated pout.
“I… I could’ve done more,” he grumbled. Stray tears turned to crying once again, and he shook his head. “I could’ve held onto the railcar… I-I could’ve knocked out every one of those regs at Cid’s! I could’ve…”
You placed both hands on the sides of Wrecker’s face now, leaning your forehead against him and shushing him in a soothing tone. With a gentle kiss on Wrecker’s lips, his frustration with himself faded away. Shakily, he sat Lula in your lap, before clutching you soundly against him and weeping into your hair. You held him just as close, fingers trailing along his scalp as your stray tears spilled onto his plastoid armor.
“Wrecker… it’s okay, love,” you reassured him, dotting kiss after kiss along his jaw. “It wasn’t your fault. None of it was.”
He pulled away from you just slightly, if only to look at you again. As his glassy eyes looked you over, he drew a shaky breath. One of his hands sat on your cheek, before he met you in a deep, loving kiss. His lips quivered on yours, still weak from crying, but he had never been so intent to express his love for you. You, of course, were happy to show him your love right back.
When your lips broke from his, he sighed, his forehead coming to rest on yours again. Excepting the occasional hiccup brought on by his tears, his breathing had steadied considerably, and the tension he’d held in his shoulders had dissipated.
“I love you,” he breathed, closing his eyes softly. “I love you so much. I…” he swallowed hard, before whispering, “I’m glad you’re still here.”
Smiling softly, you bumped your nose against Wrecker’s affectionately.
“I love you more, handsome,” you hummed.
You lifted Lula off your lap, placing her into one of Wrecker’s hands. When he met you with upturned brows, you smiled sadly.
“We’ll get her back. I promise.”
Wrecker’s eyes softened on you. Though a few more stray tears escaped him, he nodded, filled with renewed confidence. Still, he didn’t let you go—not that you wanted him to. For now, he could hold you as long as he liked. If being in his arms was enough to shed the weight of his doubts, then in his arms you would remain.
“Yeah… we’ll get her back.”
You were glad he was still here, too. More than you could ever say.
