--or perhaps,' continues Octavian. 'You're angry that I've outplayed you at your own game because you were too busy fucking in your old master's house to notice anything that was going on around you.'
He smiles suddenly, bright and wide. 'Enjoy the party, Marcus.'
this scene takes place sometime after philippi, and was originally just some historical fiction I was writing last year for fun focusing on antony, octavian, and agrippa. then I got stressed out watching the new season of a show, started drawing while it played, and ended up turning it into a short comic lmao
the dialogue in this scene is referencing this bit out of Suetonius:
In early youth he incurred the reproach of sundry shameless acts. Sextus Pompey taunted him with effeminacy; Mark Antony with having earned adoption by his uncle through unnatural relations; and Lucius, brother of Mark Antony, that after sacrificing his honour to Caesar he had given himself to Aulus Hirtius in Spain for three hundred thousand sesterces, and that he used to singe his legs with red-hot nutshells, to make the hair grow softer. What is more, one day when there were plays in the theatre, all the people took as directed against him and loudly applauded the following line, spoken on the stage and referring to a priest of the Mother of the Gods, as he beat his timbrel:
"See'st how a wanton's finger sways the world?"
Suetonius Augustus 68
what a fun group of people!! they should all eat each other

I have a lot of scatterbrained design notes for each of them but generally I wanted them to look similar to their original designs but with different themes. I also imagine that they have the same inscribing tools as their original counterparts but just use them differently (i.e. Magnificus paints animals, Leshy takes pictures of people as they're dying/about to die, I'm not sure what the magic equivalent for P03 would be besides maybe a spellbook that copies the essence of things, and Grimora's quill would either "write" code or write directly onto the hardware of robots).

the fact that isaac lahey took the bite to be able to "defend himself" and gained all of these new abilities that in theory should have helped him do exactly that, only to continue to disproportionately oscillate between freeze and flight reactions when put in violent situations, the fact that he gained this facade of confidence at the start of season 2, but that confidence really only existed when he was being ordered around, when he had an authority figure expecting obedience and telling him what to do, and the second he was left to his own devices and forced to deal with uncertainty that facade crumbled, the fact that when he was met with any kind of genuine kindness he always reacted with the sort of awkwardness and surprise of someone who hadn't experienced that in years, the fact that kindness was never the first thing he expected to be given from others, the fact that his most reckless actions were consistently taken on the behalf of the people he cared about, not in defense of himself, the fact that when he did fight for himself, there was hardly ever clear thinking behind it, it was the kind of violence you get only after backing someone into a corner, all of the things that carried over from his human life, from the loss and abuse and fear he lived with, all of these qualities that the bite couldn't magically "fix" despite how hard he leaned into it and tried to adapt to his new life, because the bite was never and will never be the cure-all it's cut out to be (both in universe, at times, and by a hell of a lot of people in the tw fandom) all of this is incredibly important to me.

you know what’s funny?
if the mortal instruments movies had continued for five more sequels— and were faithful to the books— eventually, we would have gotten not only vampire simon, but mark of cain!vampire simon.
meaning that robert sheehan would’ve ended up playing not one, not two, but THREE characters that were immortal and the source of comic relief
