Boss politics antitrust
Tumblr media
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this post to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/11/12/the-enemy-of-your-enemy/#is-your-enemy
Tumblr media
Xi Jinping inaugurated his second term with an anti-corruption purge that ran from 2012-2015, resulting in a massive turnover in the power structures of Chinese society.
At the time, people inside and outside of China believed that Xi was using the crackdown to target his political enemies and consolidate power. Certainly, that was the effect of the purge, which paved the way for reforms to Chinese law that have effectively allowed Xi to hold office for life.
In 2018, Peter Lorentzen (USF Econ) and Xi Lu (NUS Policy) published a paper that used clever empirical methods to get to the bottom of this question:
https://web.archive.org/web/20181222163946/https://peterlorentzen.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Lorentzen-Lu-Crackdown-Nov-2018-Posted-Version.pdf
Working from the extensive data-files published during the corruption trials of the purged officials, Lorentzen and Xi Liu were able to estimate the likelihood that an official had really been corrupt. They concluded that overwhelmingly, the anti-corruption purges did target corrupt officials, some of them very highly placed.
But when they considered the social graph of those defenestrated officials, they found that they came from blocs that were rivals of Xi Jinping and his circle, while officials who were loyal to Xi Jinping's were spared, even when they were corrupt.
In other words, Xi Jinping's anticorruption efforts targeted genuinely corrupt officials – but only if they supported Xi's rivals. Xi's own cronies were exempted from this. Xi did use the anticorruption effort to consolidate power, but that doesn't mean he prosecuted the innocent – rather, he selectively prosecuted the guilty.
Donald Trump will be America's next president. He campaigned against "elites" and won the support of Americans who were rightly furious at being ripped off and abused by big business. The Biden administration had done much to tackle this corruption, starting with July 2020's 72-point executive order creating a "whole of government" approach to fighting corporate power:
https://www.eff.org/de/deeplinks/2021/08/party-its-1979-og-antitrust-back-baby
Trump will have to decide what to do about these efforts. It's easy to say that Trump will just kill them all and let giant, predatory corporations rip, but I think that's wrong. After all, the Google antitrust case that the DoJ just won started under the last Trump administration. Trump also sued to block the absolutely terrible merger between Warner and AT&T.
I think it's safer to say that Trump will selectively target businesses for anticorruption enforcement – including antitrust – based on whether they oppose him or suck up to him. I think American business leaders know it, too, which is why every tech boss lined up to give Trump a public rim-job last week:
https://daringfireball.net/2024/11/i_wonder
Trump killed the AT&T-Time Warner merger to punish CNN. He went after Google to punish "woke" tech firms. That doesn't make AT&T, Time Warner or Google good. They're terrible monopolists and the US government should be making their lives miserable.
Trump will not need to falsify evidence against corporations that are disloyal to him. All of America's big businesses are cesspits of sleaze, fraud and predation. Every merger that is being teed up now for the coming four years is illegal under the antitrust laws that we stopped enforcing in the Reagan era and only dusted off again for four years under Biden. They're all guilty, which means that Trump will be able to bring a valid case against any of them.
This will create a trap for people who hate Trump but don't pay close attention to anticorruption cases. It's a trap that Trump sprung successfully in his first term, when he lashed out at the "intelligence community" – the brutal, corrupt, vicious, lawless American spy agencies that are the sworn enemies of working people and the the struggle for justice at home and abroad – and American liberals decided that the enemy of their enemy was their friend, and energetically sold one another Robert Mueller votive candles:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/12/18/schizmogenesis/
Over the next four years, Trump will use antitrust and other corruption-taming regulations to selective punish crooked companies. He won't target them because they're crooked: he'll target them because they aren't sufficiently loyal to him.
If you let your hatred of Trump blind you to the crookedness of these companies, you lose and Trump wins. The reason Trump will find it easy to punish these companies is that they are all guilty. If you let yourself forget that, if you treat your enemy's enemy as your friend, then Trump will point at his political rivals and call them apologists for corruption and sleaze – and he'll be right.
It is possible for Trump to fight corruption corruptly. That's exactly what he'll do. But just because Trump hates these companies, it doesn't follow that we should love them.

"Come on~! Show me~!" Haechan whined in your ear for the umpteenth time today.
Like all the previous times, you answered no.
Yesterday your boyfriend had found out that you had a mommy kink and liked being dominant in the bed (You had left a wattpad tab open on our shared laptop because you were apparently too tired to click on the cross), and, although that should've been something positive, you didn't want him to know.
On a daily basis, he already got critique for being younger (looking younger) than his partner, and being too 'feminine' and 'cutesy' – so, to want him to submit to you and make him match other people's perception of him was selfish and thus something you refused to do.
The theory of genders having specific power roles was something you'd always been opposed to, as you do not believe a gender determines a level of power. Truthfully, you couldn't care less if your boyfriend wanted to break gender stereotypes or not — damn, he could wear 'girly' clothes and/or put make up on if he wanted to — but you did care about what he thought of himself.
He didn't like it when people commented on how much younger he looked than he was. He didn't like it when people described him as feminine instead of masculine. He didn't like it when people [excluding you and some of his friends] called him cute. He didn't think that having any of those characteristics was wrong; he just didn't want people to call him those things.
"Please?" He attempted to lure you in with his gleaming puppy eyes – which usually worked – but that method didn't work this time around, because the great amount of vexation he had brought to you today had made you fully resistant to his cuteness.
"No, I don't want to hurt you," you answered with a blank face, trying your best to find a seemingly interesting movie on Netflix, that you hadn't already seen, so your boyfriend could give up his dumb quest. It was a little confusing why he wanted to try these types of thing with you, knowing how he felt about being belittled by others.
"I thought you said that we should always be honest with each other and always be ourselves," he argued, making a valid point since you had said those words from the start of your relationship.
"But I also said I never wanted us to hurt each other," you retorted in defense, feeling more and more irritated by the second.
Leaning and sinking down a little bit on the sofa, Haechan wanted to be more comfortable as he knew this conversation would be long. Chewing on the strings of his pink hoodie, he looked at and studied you; frown, annoyed sighs, hard grip on the remote, darker lips from biting on them – everything pointed at you being mad, and thus rather sensitive.
Then a bulb lit above his head.
"But what if I like it when you hurt me?"
You turned your head to his side. There it was. Exactly what he wanted to see. An expression on your face that told him that if he continued this route, he would get fucked. Whether it was literally or metaphorically, he wanted to find out.
"I'm leaving," you announced and stood up as quickly as the short sentence ended. You had to leave, because Haechan was pushing your buttons and you knew that if you stayed for longer you could end up doing what you had been trying to avoid since he had found out about the femdom part of you.
His face changed from calm puppy to clingy puppy with separation anxiety, scared of its owner leaving. This was not the reaction he had tried to get from you. He stood up and followed your fast steps to the bedroom. As soon as he saw you throw one of your biggest bags onto the floor, followed up by some clothing pieces, he felt his blood freeze. Were you leaving as in leaving the relationship?
"Why are you packing?" he asked, scared of your answer.
"I'm going to Irene's. I can't stay with you when you're making me crazy like this." What you said was true; you were sure he'd crack your patience and make you go full sadist on him if you stayed in the same room as him for another minute – or even worse: another hour or whole night.
He felt relieved that you weren't breaking up with him over a silly argument, but he still didn't want you to stay over at your friend's when you both knew that it would be smarter to solve the tension instead.
"Stay with me," he pleaded lowly, sensing he didn't have many other options than pleading and hoping it'd be persuasive enough for you to stay with him.
"We need a night without each to calm down and have an adult discussion, alright?" you tried to explain, grabbing your now-fully-packed bag, and heading to the door to continue your journey to your awesome best friend.
When Haechan didn't talk back, you turned away from the doorway and to the bed to see why he was being quiet and not protesting some more like he usually would. He was looking you in the eyes as he pulled the hoodie off his torso and threw it your way. You caught it in your hand. Proceeding, he pulled down his pants, making sure he did it slowly enough to send you signals that he wasn't planning on putting on his PJs.
As he stood in only his boxers in front of you, a new bulb lit up above his head – and this one was even brighter than the last one – maybe he did have more options than to plead and strip.
With a smirk he sat down on the foot of the bed, maintaining eye contact, and pulled down his boxers to reveal his hard cock. You were speechless when he had stripped down to almost full nudity, but what shocked you the most was that just speaking to him disrespectfully had turned him on.
The moment he started touching his cock and moaning like a bitch, you realized that he had purposely been naughty so you could punish him. He had whined in you ear all day, stripped and masturbated when you wanted to leave because he wanted this; he wanted to be punished.
So, you decided to do it.
You dropped the bag and went to your wardrobe, taking out a box you'd kept secret from Haechan. He looked your way curiously, analyzing your reaction while still stroking his cock rudely. Damn, he hoped you were doing something femdom related.
"Safeword?" you asked, examining the nostalgic box of memory-making apparatuses, trying to decide which ones you wanted to use to make memories tonight.
"Sun," he answered, smiling at the victory; he was going to get fucked literally.
"I hope you understand that I'm going to have to punish you for being such a naughty boy."
"Yes, Mommy," he said oh so naturally.
You looked back at him after he said the last word, watching him lay down on the bed, boxers in a random corner of the room. He seemed experienced or like he'd had a fantasy about calling you that word for a while, no stutter, and thankfully that made it easier for you decide on which toys to use on him.
"Naughty boys don't deserve to touch Mommy," you turned to him with a pair of pink, fluffy handcuffs. He blushed a little, not expecting the object you chose to punish him with to be so adorable. Did he seriously think that was all you were going to use as punishment when he'd riled you up like this?
How cute.
Walking slowly to him, you threw the cuffs onto the bed beside his legs and startled him a bit at the suddenness of the action. He had teased you, and you wanted to make sure he'd feel teased as well – and what better way to do that than to use one of his biggest weaknesses against him? Smirking, you pulled off your shirt, leaving your upper body in only a bra – a pink one. He had always liked that color – though he denied it since it wasn't manly to like pink.
You climbed on top of his body and took the cuffs in your hands again, getting ready to restrain him. He was breathing heavily, getting aroused by your body above his, and especially by your boobs that were clad in such a lovely color. Although he liked the bra, he would've loved to see your boobs without anything covering them.
"Hold your arms up for me, Channie," you ordered, to which he listened to instantly. He held them up against the bed frame, assuming you were going to cuff him to it. But he was wrong. You didn't want him to predict his punishment; you wanted everything to be a surprise that not even his fantasy could come close to.
Instead of cuffing his wrists to the frame of the bed, you cuffed them to nothing. Yes, nothing. It may sound boring to restrain your partner to nothing, but it was the opposite; restraining him to air meant that he still could choose to disobey you further by bringing his arms down. "You're going to keep your arms here, and if you at any point put them down and touch me it'll add to your punishment, understood?"
"Yes, Mommy."
"Oh, don't act like a good boy all of a sudden. You're getting punished for a reason, Haechannie," you scoffed lightly, feeling soft from the sweetness that seemed to ooze naturally whether he tried to or not.
"But I am a good boy," he pouted, adding to the cuteness you adored so much.
"Only if you can manage this punishment, but until then you're a bad boy," you explained and turned back to the box to grab the last part of the punishment. He continued pouting, until he saw the object you took out: a strap on. After removing your pants, you put the fake dick on and adjusted it to your hips.
The strap wasn't bigger than the average dick as you didn't know how used he was to having dildos shoved up his ass – and even though you wanted to hurt him, you were still cautious over how harsh you were with him. He was your squishy Haechannie after all.
"You ready, Channie?" you asked as you crawled back to him, searching his face for any uncertainty. His big eyes and toothy smile hinted at him anticipating what you were about to do, but you still wanted a verbal answer as you wanted to make sure he was OK with being pegged.
He nodded quickly, "Yes, Mommy, I'm always ready for you."

in my mind i have this, bourbon dies on the rooftop instead of scotch AU, where afterwards scotch's anger leading him to decide to kill rye. i have been pondering back and forth is this would be an ooc decision - we saw hiro's decision in wps wrt to his parents' murderer, but that was a few years back. he's been scotch for a while now. this is bourbon. hiro did not hesitate to shoot at plamya in the m25 flashback when he was worried about rei. scotch is probably not without blood on his hands. and at this moment, scotch thinks of rye as a villain. he does not know he's a noc.
so i guess, it's possible that the thought crossed his mind. but he understands the danger, too. showing how much he cared about bourbon's death poses a huge risk. he knows that. being angry at rye for that makes it seems suspicious. if he killed rye, that would make gin suspicious. rationally, he thinks he shouldn't do it. as much as a dark voice inside him is telling him to.
but what if there is a way of killing rye without that tracing back to him? he thinks of sherry, who mentioned that her recent drug is quite volatile at the moment, that it's not quite doing its intended effect, but simply killing the person who took it. but there would be no trace of poisoning. no anything. scotch actually heard of this information second-hand through bourbon, who was investigating the lab. in fact, bourbon even managed to procure one of the pills that he was going to send back to zero department's lab for studying.
nobody knows that scotch also knew this piece of information about the drug's side effect - since it was bourbon who told scotch. on the surface, scotch had nothing to do with the research lab. on the other hand, rye does occasionally visit sherry. if he "accidentally" consumed the drug, or if some lab assistant of sherry's wanted to get rid of the infamous rye for whatever reason (maybe the lab assistant had a sibling with codename who complained about rye a lot) - that's certainly plausible. likely. so scotch used the pill bourbon was originally going to send back to zero department, put it in one of rye's daily morning coffee that he takes out in a bottle and drinks through the day. carefully coincides that with a day that he knows rye is visiting the lab. during all this time he keeps up his acting, they were friendly colleagues before and still are, not letting his mask slip a bit.
it works, sort of - as in rye took the drug. except, perhaps it's partly his genes (mary and shiho both turned into a child instead of dying) - rye didn't die. he turned into a child instead.
sherry was immediately suspicious and interrogated rye if he had been messing around with anything in the lab. and also interrogated her assistants. she's methodical and keeps track of her experiments and it turns out the only missing aptx pill is the one that had been gone for a while - something she suspected bourbon took. something that, after bourbon's revelation as a noc, that she became almost certain.
bourbon is dead and sherry is not the type to think that his vengeful ghost came back and kill rye, and instead she comes to the conclusion that - bourbon has an ally, in the organization. a fellow spy. who killed rye out of revenge.
now, theoretically, it could be anybody. bourbon could have given this pill he stole to his fellow spy, and then this fellow spy decided to kill rye after rye executed bourbon.
except - it could not be just anybody. because this is someone who successfully poisoned rye - and if rye hadn't turned into a child, he would have died. rye is fairly cautious and while not gin-level-paranoia, it certainly wasn't easy to poison him. but sherry knows, that one (1) person had the chance. and given how sherry has some idea of how much time it took for the drug to take effect (but she isn't sure because humans and mice are different, but still, she has some educated guess based on numbers. it's a hypothesis only. but anyway she has a rough idea). she pins it to the coffee, which she tested for it and confirms her suspicions. at which point she's fairly certain scotch tried to kill rye - and he tried to do it in a very discreet way. if he openly tried to do it, it could just be jealousy over rye's skills and position. but he tried to do it discreetly, so discreetly, using a pill that bourbon stole from the lab - sherry suspects, quite correctly, that he's a spy as well, just like bourbon.
so, sherry confronts scotch about it. she doesn't tell rye - at this point sherry also considers rye just an organization member and not a noc. sherry does not intend to reveal scotch's secret, but she wants to negotiate with him. basically, she wants scotch to help get her sister akemi somewhere safe, out of the organization's reach. she's always been worried about her older sister. even if akemi led a sort of freer life, it's still dangerous and she's still within the organization's grasp. and without the usefulness to organization like sherry, akemi is far more vulnerable, in sherry's opinion. so she confronts and threatens scotch - Get My Sister Out Of Here In Some Way Or I'll Tell Gin You're A Noc.
she staged a confrontation in one of the labs, they're alone, just the two of them. he has a weapon on him, she doesn't, but she's confident that he won't kill her because once they walk out then it's cameras and guards everywhere. sherry knows she herself is an important asset, and scotch cannot kill her. she offers him her terms.
scotch calmly denies it, politely asking her for evidence. she coolly lists out her findings, adding that "even if you don't think it's concrete enough, gin has killed people for less". scotch does not mind helping akemi, but the situation is dangerous, and he doesn't know how much he can trust sherry to uphold her end of the bargain. what if she turns around and tells gin her findings anyway.
they stare at each other, and scotch says, conversationally, "if there is indeed enough evidence, i'm not sure i could trust you not to tell gin. if i really am a noc, perhaps my best solution would be to kill you right here."
sherry, somewhat nervous but utterly calm: "you must know you'll never get away with it. they'll catch you before you leave the research center. you know how important i am to the organization, right? you might get away for attempting to kill rye if you claim jealousy of his position and skills - but i'm something else."
scotch smiles, a smile that does not reach his eyes. "if i'm doomed anyway, i might as well take out the organization's most important scientist with me."
sherry freezes. then she scowls, and says, "i believe you're bluffing - i don't think nocs like you would dare kill a teenager."
she is right, but he doesn't plan to tell her that. "as i said, i'm not a noc, so this is a moot point." he's going to stick to his story. he's not going to verbally confirm she's right. even if she thinks she has evidence. "but if i am - you are no ordinary teenager, are you, sherry-san? the experiments you are doing - the lives you take, with these drugs you're developing."
she's slightly shaken. she does sometimes have pangs of guilt about the experiment she's roped into doing. "perhaps i don't care about dying myself. but are you so ready to sacrifice your mission and die with me?"
he realizes, that there are some truths to her words. a part of her dislikes what the organization made her do. he feels a pang of sympathy for her. "i don't think you want to die," he says, softly, but his words aren't quite kind. "i don't think you can afford to, either. if you care about your sister like you claim to - do you think, once they don't need to use her life to threaten you, they'd set her free? they would probably find it easier to kill her now that they don't need her, if you're dead."
sherry draws a sharp breath.
"i will help your sister - as long as you keep silent about what happened today. and that you convince rye that something in the lab accidentally turned him into a child - perhaps by touch. perhaps a glass of water. whatever. if you can do that -"
she interrupts him. "i can."
"i appreciate that," he says. "you've got yourself a deal, sherry."
"keep her safe," or else, i'll tell gin everything, she does not say, but she's sure he can see it in her eyes.
"as long as you make sure rye and gin do not suspect." if they do, remember your sister will be in my hands, he does not say. but she probably hears it anyway.

Last Monday of the Week 2025-02-03
It fuckin cold
Listening: I have been installing and testing my new TV speakers so I need a nice bass-heavy song to run tests and dial in subwoofer levels, and I am regularly coming back to Bad Guy by Billie Eilish. It's good! It was a good song. She's been much gentler in style lately so it is interesting to compare styles.
youtube
Also just a fun video to have on a big screen.
Watching: The Court Jester (1955) starring Danny Kaye which you know from the incredibly silly swordfight at the end, you've seen it be used on here to litigate stupid arguments about mastery of skills.
Extremely funny! Watched with my partner and their friends. Really solid use of a Danny Kaye and cute wordplay. This is a movie about dating a closeted trans man.
There are so many guys in this movie! Danny Kaye, Basil Rathbone, Angela Lansbury, Michael Pate, Alan Napier, hell even John Carradine makes an appearance before being bonked on the head.
Reading: Still working my way through Pale Fire, there's a lot happening. I feel like I don't have the whole picture yet.
Playing: Not a ton, I was not at home much this past week for reasons.
Making: when I have been at home I've been working on my whole TV deal. I do not use the TV but part of that is that it has dogshit sound and no computer attached that I enjoy using, so I've been solving that. One thing I said when the Steam Deck came out was that it was an ideal form factor for a home theater PC, since it has enough computing power to get out of its own way and even do some light gaming, but it's also small and multi-use. HTPC's tend to feel like a waste if they're powerful and annoying if they're too slow, so being able to just rip your HTPC out and carry it around without having to deal with the bulk and height of a laptop is nice.
Tumblr media
I've been installing a hub with some peripherals and networking for that, and then also installing the speakers I got on the front of the TV cabinet, which is more or less done now! I still need to print some cable conduit so route those cables to the back of the cabinet. But it's good for now, looks nice, and sounds decent.
Up next is to design some kind of more robust docking solution for the handheld. The handheld also needs to get punted over to Linux so I can incorporate it into my home network, it'll be able to NFS mount my media libraries and act as a wireplumber sink so that I can beam audio to it. Actually hmm I think my TV can do AirPlay so I might be able to use WP to hit that directly. I'll see! It'll be nice to have everything integrated.
I mean actually actually up next should be the big projects, which is to say soundproofing the server a little and designing the coffee table, which are ongoing design projects (see: I have a bunch of OnShape windows open)
Tools and Equipment: This counts: The big thing these days is the absorption method for rice where you carefully measure out the right amount of water so that it is perfectly taken up while cooking. It's good. However. You should try making parboiled basmati rice the Indian way where you boil it in a ton of water and then drain it like pasta. It is so good. I just made like two cups of rice for the week like this it's very easy and pretty quick if you preboil some of your water in a fast kettle, or you have good induction.

7 Walstad Method Myths Debunked: What Dianna Walstad Really Says You Should Do In Your Planted Tank!
In today’s video, I’m tackling some of the most common myths about Walstad Method aquariums. These myths are widespread, and I believe content creators (myself included) play a role in perpetuating them through our titles and content. However, there’s a lot more nuance to the method than these myths suggest.
Throughout the video, I’ll share footage from my own aquariums—some that follow the Walstad Method and others that don’t.
Here’s what we’ll cover: 1️⃣ Do Walstad tanks need filters? While many believe filters aren’t used in Walstad tanks, the truth is more nuanced. Even Dianna Walstad herself uses filters in some setups. I’ll explore her recommendations and why beginners might benefit from starting with a filter—or at least adding water flow with a USB pump.
2️⃣ Are plants the only filters? Plants are amazing at absorbing harmful compounds like ammonium, nitrite, and nitrate, but they’re not the only filtration mechanism. Beneficial bacteria and archaea in the substrate play a massive role too, often working in tandem with plants.
3️⃣ Do Walstad tanks eliminate water changes? While water changes can be minimized, they’re not always unnecessary—especially in new tanks. I’ll explain why water changes might still be needed and how to manage Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) effectively without frequent water changes.
4️⃣ Do Walstad tanks avoid fertilizers? It’s possible to avoid fertilizers in a Walstad tank, but it can be challenging. I share my personal experience dealing with potassium deficiencies and some natural ways to boost essential nutrients like potassium and iron.
5️⃣ Is the research in Walstad’s book outdated? Some claim the research is old, but the latest edition of The Ecology of the Planted Aquarium (2023) includes updated studies and findings. If you’re interested in Walstad tanks, make sure to reference the newest edition.
6️⃣ Can you instantly stock a Walstad tank? Rushing to add fish can be risky, especially for beginners. I’ll explain why patience is key to allowing plants, bacteria, and archaea to establish before adding livestock.
If you’re curious about the Walstad Method or just want to improve your planted tank setup, this video is for you!
Don’t forget to check the description for links to studies, resources, and additional information mentioned in the video.
👉 Leave a comment with your thoughts or questions—I’d love to hear from you! 👍 Like and subscribe for more content on aquariums and planted tank tips!
Thanks for watching, and have a great day! 🌿🐟

Tumblr media
Duplicating a page in WordPress is a fast and efficient way to replicate content or layouts without having to start from scratch. WordPress itself doesn’t offer an option for this, but with the right approach, it’s easy to learn how to duplicate an entire page in WordPress. For a step-by-step guide, check out our article on How to Duplicate a Page in WordPress.
Why Duplicating a Page is Useful
There are several reasons you might want to duplicate a page:
You need a similar layout for different pages on your site.
You want to quickly create landing pages for marketing campaigns.
You’re making updates to a page but want to keep the original version as a backup.
How to Duplicate an Entire Page in WordPress
The two main ways to duplicate a page in WordPress are through plugins or manually copying content.
Duplicating with a Plugin
Using a plugin is the easiest and quickest method to make a duplicate page. Here’s how:
Install and activate a plugin like "Duplicate Post" or "Duplicate Page."
Go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to "Pages."
Hover over the page you wish to duplicate and click on "Clone" or "Duplicate."
A new draft will be created with the same content, layout, and settings as the original.
This method ensures you don’t miss any important page settings or SEO configurations.
Manually Copying a Page
Another option is to manually duplicate a page by copying the content from the original page into a new draft. However, you’ll need to reapply any settings like SEO, featured images, or custom templates.
How Do I Duplicate a WordPress Site?
If you need to go beyond just a page and duplicate your entire WordPress site, tools like "Duplicator" or "All-in-One WP Migration" are designed for this purpose. To duplicate a WordPress site, you’ll need to:
Install one of these migration plugins.
Export your current site’s data.
Import the site backup into a new WordPress installation.
Make adjustments to URLs and settings as needed for the new site environment.
This method will give you a complete copy of your site, including all content, settings, and plugins.
Best Practices for Duplicating Pages
Duplicating pages can be a powerful tool in your website management. Whether for A/B testing, marketing campaigns, or simply saving time, knowing how to duplicate an entire page or even a full site can help streamline your workflow. Keep in mind that using plugins for this task is much faster than manually duplicating content, especially if you’re handling multiple pages.
Conclusion
Duplicating a page in WordPress is a simple process, especially with the right tools. Whether using a plugin or doing it manually, the ability to easily replicate content can save you time and effort. How Do Private Investigators Track Cell Phones?
Private investigators (PIs) are known for their resourcefulness and ability to uncover information that may seem out of reach for the average person. Among their many skills, tracking cell phones has become a critical tool in modern investigations. Whether working on cases involving missing persons, fraud, infidelity, or corporate espionage, PIs often rely on cell phone tracking to collect crucial evidence.
Tumblr media
But how do private investigators track cell phones? This blog explores the techniques, tools, and ethical considerations involved in this sensitive process.
1. The Basics of Cell Phone Tracking
Cell phone tracking involves determining the location of a device by utilizing the technology it relies on to function—cell towers, GPS, and Wi-Fi networks. Smartphones emit signals that can be intercepted or analyzed to pinpoint their location. While law enforcement agencies have sophisticated tools and legal authority for tracking, private investigators often use alternative methods that stay within legal boundaries.
2. Common Techniques Used by Private Investigators
a. GPS Tracking
GPS (Global Positioning System) tracking is one of the most accurate ways to locate a cell phone. Many modern devices come equipped with built-in GPS chips that constantly communicate with satellites to determine their location. Private investigators might use the following approaches to access GPS data:
Authorized Access: If a private investigator has legal permission (e.g., from the device owner), they can use GPS tracking apps to monitor the phone's location. This is common in cases of missing persons or parental tracking of children.
Location-Sharing Apps: Some apps, like Find My iPhone or Google Find My Device, allow users to share their location. A PI might assist clients in accessing these features, provided they have the right credentials or consent.
b. Cell Tower Triangulation
Cell phones connect to nearby towers for communication, and the distance to these towers can be used to approximate the device's location. By analyzing signal strength from multiple towers, a process known as triangulation can determine the phone's general whereabouts.
Private investigators might collaborate with telecommunications providers to request such data, but this typically requires proper legal justification, such as a subpoena or court order.
c. Wi-Fi Positioning Systems (WPS)
Many modern devices use Wi-Fi signals for location tracking when GPS is unavailable. By identifying the networks a phone connects to, investigators can narrow down the location. This technique is particularly useful in urban areas, where Wi-Fi networks are abundant.
d. Mobile Applications
Private investigators may use third-party apps designed for tracking. These apps often require installation on the target device, making their use legally and ethically complex. Popular tracking apps include:
mSpy: Often marketed for parental control, this app can monitor a phone’s location, messages, and activity.
FlexiSPY: Offers advanced tracking features, but its use must comply with local laws.
Such software is generally legal only if used with the consent of the device owner.
e. Social Engineering
In some cases, private investigators might rely on social engineering techniques to gain access to location data. For example, they might trick the target into sharing their location via a deceptive message or link. While this is less common among reputable PIs, it highlights the importance of staying vigilant against such tactics.
3. Advanced Tracking Methods
a. IMEI and SIM Tracking
Every mobile device has a unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. Similarly, SIM cards have unique identifiers that can be traced through the network. Private investigators may use IMEI or SIM tracking to locate a device if they have access to the necessary records or tools.
b. Stingray Devices
A Stingray is a portable device that mimics a cell tower, tricking nearby phones into connecting to it. Law enforcement agencies commonly use this technology, but private investigators typically avoid it due to its invasive nature and legal restrictions.
c. Geofencing
Geofencing creates a virtual perimeter around a specific area. If a device enters or exits this area, it triggers an alert. This technique can be used with GPS or mobile app tracking and is often employed in cases involving surveillance or asset protection.
4. Legal and Ethical Considerations
Tracking cell phones is a highly regulated activity due to privacy concerns. Private investigators must adhere to strict legal and ethical guidelines to avoid violating rights or committing crimes.
a. Consent
In most jurisdictions, private investigators can track a cell phone only with the consent of the device owner. For example, a parent might authorize tracking of their child’s phone, or an employer might monitor company-owned devices used by employees.
b. Privacy Laws
Privacy laws vary by country and region but generally prohibit unauthorized tracking. In the United States, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) regulates the interception of electronic communications, including location data. Similarly, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the EU sets strict rules on personal data collection.
c. Ethical Practices
Reputable private investigators follow ethical practices to maintain professionalism and protect client interests. This includes:
Avoiding illegal tracking methods.
Respecting the privacy of non-consenting individuals.
Providing clear disclosures about the methods used.
Unethical practices, such as installing spyware without consent, can lead to legal repercussions and damage the investigator’s reputation.
5. The Role of Technology
Technology plays a central role in cell phone tracking. From software solutions to hardware tools, PIs have access to a wide range of resources that make their work more efficient. Some commonly used technologies include:
Tracking Apps: As mentioned earlier, these apps offer location-sharing features for authorized users.
Surveillance Tools: Tools like GPS trackers or geofencing systems allow investigators to monitor movement discreetly.
Data Analysis Software: PIs often use software to analyze call records, SMS logs, or app usage patterns, which can provide indirect clues about a person’s location.
6. Challenges in Cell Phone Tracking
Despite advancements, cell phone tracking comes with its challenges:
a. Legal Barriers
Obtaining location data without proper authorization can lead to legal consequences, limiting the methods available to private investigators.
b. Technological Limitations
Signal Interference: GPS tracking may not work in areas with poor satellite coverage, such as tunnels or densely packed buildings.
Device Security: Modern smartphones are equipped with advanced security features that prevent unauthorized access to location data.
c. Ethical Dilemmas
Balancing client demands with ethical considerations can be tricky. Investigators must ensure they don’t overstep boundaries while fulfilling their obligations.
7. Real-World Applications
Private investigators use cell phone tracking in various scenarios:
a. Missing Persons
Cell phone location data can provide vital clues in locating missing individuals, especially in time-sensitive cases.
b. Infidelity Investigations
PIs often track cell phones to gather evidence of infidelity. For example, GPS data might reveal that a spouse visited a suspicious location.
c. Corporate Investigations
In cases of corporate fraud or espionage, tracking company-owned devices can help identify rogue employees or uncover unauthorized activities.
d. Stalking and Harassment Cases
Cell phone tracking can help victims of stalking or harassment by identifying the perpetrator’s movements and providing evidence for legal action.
8. How to Protect Yourself from Unwanted Tracking
While private investigators are bound by legal and ethical guidelines, not everyone operates within the law. To protect yourself from unauthorized tracking:
Disable Location Services: Turn off GPS and location-sharing features when not needed.
Secure Your Device: Use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and regularly update your phone’s software.
Avoid Suspicious Links: Be cautious about clicking on unknown links or downloading apps from unverified sources.
Use Anti-Spyware Apps: These can detect and remove tracking software from your device.
9. Conclusion
Private investigators play an essential role in uncovering the truth, and cell phone tracking is one of the many tools they use to achieve their goals. However, this practice requires a delicate balance of skill, technology, and adherence to legal and ethical standards.
For individuals and organizations seeking the services of a PI, it’s crucial to ensure they work with professionals who operate transparently and within the law. At the same time, understanding the methods and limitations of cell phone tracking can help protect your privacy and make informed decisions when hiring an investigator.
By staying informed about the capabilities and boundaries of cell phone tracking, you can better navigate the complexities of this modern investigative tool.

SCP AMTF Nu-7 Cosplay - Low Visibility Environment
Depicted here is the standard night fighting equipment for the conventional Nu-7 light fighter. Low visibility conditions take up roughly half of all time on Earth, and as such the modern soldier must be equipped to function in such an environment. This is also the case for the SCP Foundation's Armed Mobile Task Forces. It is especially important for AMTF units as many Foundation site's are almost entirely underground and have the potential to lose power and artificial light. All AMTF units who are tasked with responding to site containment breaches must be trained in performing all of their duties under night vision devices. Headborne night vision and occasionally thermal devices are typically mounted on a ballistic or bump helmet, in this case the Ops-Core SF ballistic helmet, via an NVG shroud fixed to the front of the helmet. The night vision equipment can be mounted to the shroud off a dovetail mount by the use of a bridge for dual tube NVGs, or a J-Arm for single tube NVGs. The operative depicted here has an Elbit Gen 3 WP PVS-14 mounted on a Noisefighters MAX14 J-Arm which mounts to the Norotos Lo-Sto Push Button Mount. Such a setup is extremely lightweight and provides an exceptional range of articulation for stowing the unit on the helmet. This operative also has a FLIR Breach Thermal monocular, used as a handheld heat signature scanner. Using both night vision tubes and thermal devices in tandem provides the user with an extremely powerful toolset when working at night or in low light conditions.
If the AMTF unit is responding to a potential threat to Foundation security that is known to have peer or near peer technology, then responding elements must assume their targets have night vision and thermal devices as well. To this end one of the more simple methods to counter handheld thermal devices is to wear a large poncho. This masks most of the operative's body heat underneath the poncho and blends the wearer to the surrounding environmental temperature. Fighting against thermal is extremely difficult and this method is not perfect, however even a simple poncho decreases the overall heat signature of the wearer to a large degree. Countering enemy night vision devices is much easier and a large part of succeeding in this is to reduce both white light and IR light output downrange. This means the operative's must passive aim without the assistance of an IR laser mounted on the weapon. The real estate is instead taken by a white light and IR light capable flashlight which can assist in passive aiming in low light environments.
Fighting against the anomalous has the potential to become chaotic almost instantaneously, and only more so at night. Low visibility paired with the small field of view that night vision provides means that responding elements will need a quick and easy way to distinguish from friend or foe. To this end the operative here has placed infrared glint tabs on the back of his kit. These IR tabs glow when IR light is reflected on them, and this glowing effect is only visible under night vision. This example here was taken from a still during Recovery Operation ███ ████ (See Recovery Operation ███ ████ After Action Report ██-██-████ ████ hrs local).
The operative showcased here also has a helmet mounted strobe light, specifically the S&S Precision Manta Strobe with Hybrid Tail Cap. A helmet strobe light provides friendly identification to nearby units from a long distance, ranging from other elements and vehicles on the ground to supporting aircraft in the sky. Unit Standard Operating Procedures, or SOP, will determine how identifying friend or foe under low light conditions is conducted.

‘Bamboozled’ is the Forgotten Gem in Spike Lee’s Career
A new Criterion Collection edition of the 2000 film—about a primetime TV minstrel show that becomes a hit—means its finally time to give this scorched-earth satire its due
Tumblr media
It still shocks you. No matter how many times you’ve seen those images, in history books and documentaries, museum exhibits and memorabilia collections, banned cartoons and the occasional old movie preserved on TCM (and preceded by a warning), the actual witnessing of it still stops you in your tracks. You don’t have to know that people would place corks in a small metal bowl, pour alcohol on them, light them on fire, mash the ashes and add water. (Later, a performer might have used standard shoe polish, but this was the traditional method.) You don’t even have to observe them methodically apply that concoction to their foreheads, cheeks, nose, chin, jawline, or complement the look with red lipstick. You just have to see the result — the actual look of blackface on someone — to feel shaken. And this time, it’s not in faded black and white but in living 21st-century color, staring right back at you.
Spike Lee knows the historical import of these images. He understands the power of cinema, and the necessity of provocation, and how sometimes a blunt instrument is required in lieu of a sharp blade. He’s aware of how the minstrel show had been used to dehumanize people, to reduce them and belittle them, and how so much of that legacy continued even after that mode of entertainment became a thing of the “distant past.” Bamboozled, his 2000 satire — Lee has his lead character read the definition of the word “satire” to the audience in the opening sequence, just to silence any doubters — talks much trash and throws a lot of caricaturish, over-the-top stuff at you in its first act. Some of it inspires eye-rolling, as obvious targets get pincushioned. Other bits have you laughing despite your better angels and instincts.
Then it arrives at the moment when two actors have to “blacken up.” The film follows each step. This scene will repeat itself throughout the film three times, all of them set to Terence Blanchard’s musical lament. During the third go-round, you can see tears rolling down one of the man’s cheeks. Each time they finish the ritual, mugging desperately into the camera as they bound onto a TV studio’s stage, made up to look like the previous 50 years never happened, you get the wind knocked out of you. That’s the point. Lee has made something that could be considered a comedy. But he’s not playing around.
Editor’s picks
Nestled in between his highly successful concert movie of the highly successful comedy tour The Original Kings of Comedy and his stunning post-9/11 parable 25th Hour, Bamboozled has been consigned to being an odd blip on his filmography. Audiences were baffled. Critics were bent out of shape over it. The movie was considered too on-brand to be an outlier but too scattershot to be a masterpiece, too broad, too sour, too black, too strong. Now that the Criterion Collection has just released a new DVD/Blu-ray edition of this long out-of-print title, it’s easier to recognize this cri de coeur for what it is: a history lesson on decades of screen (mis)representation, a look back in anger but also profound sorrow, a flawed and sometimes flailing takedown that becomes more effective the more times you see it. At the turn of the century, it seemed like an crude attempt at sketch comedy. Twenty years later, the movie feels like a forgotten gem in Spike’s career, one who’s spit-polish and reappraisal comes at the exact right moment.

Bamboozled‘s premise is the most modest of proposals: TV producer Pierre Delacroix (Damon Wayans) wants to make shows about average, middle-class African-American families. His white boss (Michael Rappaport), who claims to know more about black culture then the man sitting in front of him, wants more “hip” and outrageous programming. So, in an effort to get fired, Delacroix and his assistant Sloan Hopkins (Jada Pinkett Smith) suggest The New Millennium Minstrel Show. It’s exactly what it sounds like: an update of an old-fashioned 19th-century variety show full of songs, dances, skits and corrosive stereotypes. He hires two street performers, Manray and Womack (tap-dancing phenom Savion Glover and In Living Color‘s Tommy Davidson), to play “Mantan” and his sidekick “Sleep ‘n’ Eat.” The exec suggests they set it on a plantation; Delacroix offers the idea of a watermelon patch instead. They produce a pilot that makes those old Amos & Andy episodes look like Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. Delacroix believes that something this blatantly offensive is destined to get him canned. Naturally, the network gives him a 12-episode order. The nation gives him a hit show.
Related
It’s a tale as old as time, or at least The Producers. Mel Brooks’ farce is a simply a high point in “sick” humor, however, and an expansion on the notion that comedy is tragedy plus time divided by bad taste, a wink and massive cajones. Bamboozled has other things on its troubled mind, namely the use of entertainment as a propaganda tool and a prejudice machine. On the Criterion edition’s supplementary disc, there’s a conversation between Lee and critic/programmer Ashley Clark (whose book Facing Blackness is a brilliant forensic dissection of the film) in which the director admits that prior to the project’s conception, he’d been thinking a lot about two then-recent birthdays: the centennial of the movies and the 50th anniversary of television. These were mediums he dearly loved, and that showed him the world. They also reflected back a purposefully one-sided, less-than-one-dimensional view of the African-American experience. Many filmmakers launched counterattacks by the late ’90s — not just Lee, but also Charles Burnett, Julie Dash, Melvin Van Peebles, John Singleton, Kasi Lemmons, Gordon Parks, Ivan Dixon, Kathleen Collins, Marlon Riggs, and a growing list of others.
Yet for every Losing Ground, there was decades of lost ground via endlessly recycled images of buffoons and simpletons. There was also the Seventies sitcoms like Good Times and The Jeffersons, which — assuming Bamboozled‘s skeptical view of them was reflective of its creator’s mindset — Lee also saw as harmful. Minstrelsy was gone, but what lay at the roots of those shows wasn’t dead. It had just changed its makeup. Still, what would happen if someone really tried to resurrect those old vaudeville-style, pre-Civil War to Jim Crow era shows and sell them as ready-for-primetime programming? For Delacroix, it was a way out of a bankrupt creative situation, with the delusional notion of it being a subversive way to smuggle social commentary in. For Sloan, it’s a way to prove to her militant brother (Yasiin “Mos Def” Bey) that she’s not a corporate sellout. For the two New Millennium actors, who view TV as a level-up from tap-dancing in midtown for chump change, it’s a way to “keep the income coming in.” Everyone ends up losing a piece of their soul regardless of their motivations.
Delacroix gets checkmated because he inadvertently gives the people exactly what they want — a little bit of that “Make America Great Again” throwback mockery. (Dig how the movie’s crude look, courtesy of a consumer DV camera, switches to Super 16mm lushness during these sequences. It’s like gazing a beautiful, poisonous flower.) Soon, the studio audience is showing up in blackface, with everyone pledging allegiance to a racial epithet. Pierre ends up surrounded by kitsch racist-memorabilia, a piggy bank taunting him by throwing endless phantom coins into its mouth. Sloan and the show’s stars end up broken. Like Network, one of several movies which Bamboozled owes a partial debt to, the narrative ends with a plea to yell that you’re not going to take it anymore, and a death. Delacroix’s experiment has spectacularly backfired. So had Spike’s, for the opposite reason: He’d given folks something they really didn’t want in 2000, i.e. to have their face rubbed in a centuries’ worth of hate.
There’s a lot going on in Bamboozled that isn’t a direct poke in your eye, of course. There’s Wayans’ Harvard-affected, every-syllable-has-its-day accent, which is the perfect aural equivalent of his name. There are the arguments between Smith, who’s genuinely wonderful in the movie, and Bey about ideology. There is Bey’s group the Mau-Mau’s, Spike’s scorched-earth take on revolution-spouting, consciousness-raising hip-hop groups and the one thing even the film’s fans have a hard time with. There’s Paul Mooney as Junebug, Pierre’s dad and a comedian who’s admirably stuck to his well-honed club shtick; in a perfect world, the movie would’ve helped reintroduce this legendary stand-up and Richard Pryor collaborator to a larger audience. (Chappelle’s Show would accomplish that a few years later.) And there’s the commercial parodies, from “Bomb Malt Liquor” to a deathblow critique of Tommy Hilfiger’s marketing to the African-American community.
But the underlying feelings that inform the movie are rage and pain. That’s what you see in Delacroix’s eyes when his boss brusquely uses slurs and ill-advised slang to prove the he’s more “down,” and when the producer says that he refuses to keep pumping out shit “like Homeboys in Outer Space” — a hilarious throwaway line until you remember this was a real, honest-to-God series. You see it in his face when white coworkers excitedly praise him and he watches white people cracking up at the performers denigrating themselves for their delight. (It’s hard to watch these scenes and not think of Dave Chappelle’s story about seeing a Caucasian crew member laugh a little too intensely at a sketch, a moment that forced the comedian to pull the plug on his own show.) And you definitely see it in Bamboozled‘s coup de grace, a climactic roll call of racist screen imagery throughout the ages that presents you with a century’s worth of humiliation 24 frames per second.
This is the history the film wants to remind you of; this is the history it wants you to reckon with. And seeing the movie through the lens of our current moment, history has indeed been kind — agonizingly so — to what Bamboozled is talking about. That so many people have inherently picked up what Lee was putting down and used that as a sort of template for what writer/critic Evan Narcisse called “the New Black Absurdity” has helped its mode of attack feel remarkably familiar,. You can see its legacy in everything from the cinema du Afro-punk to Atlanta, Terence Nance’s unclassifiable surreality to Sorry to Bother You. Even Spike himself would go back to this bitter aesthetic well with BlacKkKlansman.
It’s plus ça change perversity of it all — the constant sheer WTF-edness and creeping feeling of progress being undone by violence and oppression — re: life circa 2020 that really makes Bamboozled feel like it was made for here and now. It’s time has come, wonderfully and regrettably. Reached by phone a few days after the DVD’s release, Clark noted that “in 2000, when this film came out, it was: ‘Spike, we know blackface is bad, get over it.’ If this had come out in 2008, it would have been received even worse: ‘Spike, we live in post-racial America now, you’re so out of touch.’ Right now, we have a President tweeting out miracle cures, people like Sheriff David A. Clarke considered to be pundits and the Diamond and Silk appearing on Fox. The really scary thing is that, 20 years on, Bamboozled feels incredibly contemporary. It doesn’t look so extreme after all…and when you consider the content of this film, that’s a very troubling thing.”

Movie Review...May December
Tumblr media
(2/5) Chile this movie was weird (I can't even sugarcoat that). One of the actors kept showing on my timeline. So I searched for interviews to see why he kept coming on my timeline. Rave reviews about his performance from peers and critics a like intrigued me to look into what was going on. What did I just watch. This was full on drama...soap opera...TP for WPs (if you can decode you are the real MVP). Even the score was something out of Dallas or Dynasty.
I am not sure if the events in the film was based on a true story but foundation of the characters were. As one google review states, "This film, based on the Mary Kay Letourneau case, depicts the Mary Kay character (Julianne Moore) and the twelve-year old boy she raped, and got impregnated by, twenty-three years later as a married couple with kids heading off to college." I myself was in the middle school around when this story was taking over the news headlines but had no clue what was going on.
Overall description and feeling of this film is uncomfortable. From the clearly inappropriate foundation of the couples relationship, the intrusiveness of the method actor that clearly evolved into some obsession (Portman's character was giving The Talented Mr. Ripley), the makeup scene, the kids relationship with the parents, the towns relationship with the family...all weird and uncomfortable.
Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, Gracie Atherton-Yu and her husband Joe (twenty-three years her junior) brace themselves for their twins to graduate from high school. When Hollywood actress Elizabeth Berry comes to spend time with the family to better understand Gracie, who she will be playing in a film, family dynamics unravel under the pressure of the outside gaze. Joe, never having processed what happened in his youth, starts to confront the reality of life as an empty-nester at thirty-six. And as Elizabeth and Gracie study each other, the similarities and differences between the two women begin to ebb and flow. Set in picturesque and comfortable Savannah, Georgia, May December is an exploration of truth, storytelling, and the difficulties (or impossibility) of fully understanding another person.
