Thank you for a Great 2022!
Tumblr media
As we head towards to the end of another year, I am amazed at how grateful and thankful I’m left feeling.
The pandemic was scary for everyone, but I was one of the people where my career was deemed “unessential”. I was out of work from March 2020 until May of 2021 and even then I wasn't back to my normal full-time schedule.
The beginning of 2022 had everyone scared of the Omicron variant, and my gigs were once again becoming remote, I was losing hope.
Then April hit, and everything changed. In-person gigs, schools inviting the Josh & Gab Show back for in-person events. I was even able to start traveling to do my Mental Health Public speaking engagements and it’s been a wonderful year ever since.
I just wanted to take a minute to thank every single organization that has hired me this year and given me a platform to tell my story and share my art. Words will never express my gratitude.
Every gig gives me two essential things: (1) The ability to pay my bills (2) The ability to express myself through words and performance.
Thank you so much to the following organizations:
Crawford-Mercer-Venango Counties-Trauma Informed & Resilient Communities Conference Disability PA Dormont Arts Carnegie Library The Woodlands Allegheny County Parks Temple Sinai PA Care Partnership/UPMC Point Park University The Ryan Shazier Foundation Staunton Clinic Walk Productions Pennsylvania Rehabilitation Association The JCC Pittsburgh WQED TV “Teachable Moment” The Brillobox Rust Belt Comedy Karate Sleepover Speakeasy
It’s been an absolute pleasure and I hope to work with you again in 2023!

So today I learned that a version of my yuckyworld.org story is on Tvtropes. It's under the trope "Logging Onto the Fourth Wall", which is about URLs used in media.
In 2002, Sesame Street episode 3997 featured Oscar the Grouch seeing a commercial for the grouch amusement park Six Crabs Yucky World. The commercial showed the URL http://yuckyworld.org/, which Oscar subsequently visited on the show. Sesame Workshop had intended to register the site before the episode aired but the paperwork had fallen through the cracks and not been filed by air time, leading a lucky viewer to help them out — there's actually an interesting story involving this one.
* An adult viewer saw this episode when it premiered, and, amused by the .org domain, visited the Yucky World site, only to discover that the producers had neglected to register the domain. He quickly registered it himself, putting up a placeholder page. Soon thereafter, he was contacted by Sesame Workshop and transferred the domain to them, and the viewer received several e-mails from parents who had watched the show and visited the site, thanking him for keeping the domain from being registered by a Shock Site. Today the yuckyworld.org domain, while no longer functioning as a website, is still owned by Sesame Workshop.
Now, I used to be on Tvtropes a lot; I guess I must have told the story in the forums or something. Checking the history, versions of this have been there since 2012, and apparently I used to be identified by username.
I guess I just feel like I ought to have known this?

MY THOUGHTS REGARDING “MISTER ROGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD” TV SHOW
I just came across a post and comment thread on Facebook where certain “brethren” were attacking now-deceased minister Fred Rogers and his popular, long-running children’s show, “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood”, because he did not outright preach Jesus on his TV show.
I was just going to ignore the comments and not say anything, because I already knew how the thread’s participants would react to anything I had to say.
Sadly, I have been on Facebook long enough to know that trying to correct anyone — particularly when they are a Christian — is asking for a fight. They will usually just dig in deeper and defend their position — even if they are wrong — and turn around and attack you. They can’t disprove the message, so they attack the messenger instead.
But, in this case, I just couldn’t hold back. So, I let them have it with the following. I imagine that I will soon be receiving some nasty replies from my “brethren” over on that comment thread.
If you feel so inclined, let me know what you think of the following. This is what I wrote to them verbatim:
————————
Okay, let me start by saying that I am from Pittsburgh, the home of Fred Rogers and his television show.
As a young boy, I grew up watching his show sometimes. “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” was a CHILDREN’S show. It was NOT promoted as a religious show. Thus, it was under NO OBLIGATION to promote religious indoctrination.
Similar to a number of other children’s TV shows of that bygone era — such as “Captain Kangaroo”, for example — it taught children of my generation godly principles such as love, kindness, generosity, respect for others, etc., without mentioning God, Jesus or the Bible.
What in the world do some of you people find wrong with that? The show had a positive influence on young children, even if it didn’t throw Christianity straight in our faces.
I don’t know the policies of WQED — the station I believe that aired the show in our area, IIRC — and neither do I know anything about the personal life of Mr. Rogers, other than the fact that he was a minister. Neither do I know anything about the denomination that he belonged to.
But you know what? None of that matters. All that does matter is the EXAMPLE that he set up front and center, in PUBLIC, on his TV show. If I were to describe what he taught with a Bible verse, it might be this one:
“And‭ be‭‭ ye kind‭ one to another‭‭, tenderhearted‭, forgiving‭‭ one another‭, even as‭‭ God‭ for‭‭ Christ’s‭ sake‭ hath forgiven‭‭ you‭.”
Ephesians 4:32, KJV
Quite frankly, I find it tragic that now that he is dead, some of you people decide to come out of the woodwork and attack him, accuse him of homosexual tendencies, blast his show because he didn’t shove Jesus in our faces on a CHILDREN’S show, and even drag his denomination into the mix.
What you hypocrites are basically doing is speaking evil of the good that he did in a pretty rough world. Mr. Rogers was a gentle soul. He was meek. I am reminded of the following verses:
“Blessed‭ are ye‭‭, when‭ ‭men‭ shall revile‭‭ you‭, and‭ persecute‭‭ ‭you‭, and‭ shall say‭‭ all manner‭ of evil‭‭ against‭ you‭ FALSELY‭‭, for my sake‭‭.”
Matthew 5:11, KJV
“Let‭‭ not‭ then‭ your‭ good‭ be ‭evil‭ ‭spoken‭ of‭‭:”
Romans 14:16, KJV
“Woe‭ unto them that call‭‭ evil‭ good‭, and good‭ evil‭; that put‭‭ darkness‭ for light‭, and light‭ for darkness‭; that put‭‭ bitter‭ for sweet‭, and sweet‭ for bitter‭!”
Isaiah 5:20, KJV
“‭For‭ this‭ ‭is‭ thankworthy‭, if‭ a man‭ for‭ conscience‭ toward God‭ endure‭‭ grief‭, suffering‭‭ wrongfully‭. For‭ what‭ glory‭ ‭is it‭, if‭, when‭ ye be ‭buffeted‭‭‭ for your faults‭‭, ye shall take it patiently‭‭? but‭ if‭, when ye do well‭‭, and‭ suffer‭‭ ‭for it‭, ye take it patiently‭‭, this‭ ‭is‭ acceptable‭ with‭ God‭.”
1 Peter 2:19-20, KJV
Mr. Rogers is not here to defend himself against you pack of self-righteous wolves; but I say SHAME on you all!
