Minnesota Twins-Washington Nationals Series Preview
5.20.24-Pablo Lopez RHP (4-3) 3.93 ERA Vs. Mitchell Parker LHP (2-2) 3.09 ERA
5.21.24-Joe Ryan RHP (2-3) 3.57 ERA Vs. Patrick Corbin LHP (1-4) 5.59 ERA
5.22.24-Simeon Woods Richardson RHP (1-0) 2.97 ERA Vs. Jake Irvin RHP (2-4) 3.91 ERA
The Twins At A Glance- The Minnesota Twins bats have went ice cold during a six-game losing streak. They have scored nine runs in their past six games and the pitching hasn't been bad outside of Saturday's loss. Trevor Larnach is 0-for-his-last-19 and hasn't gotten a hit in over a week. Alex Kirilloff is 1-for-his-last-12 over the past week. Manny Margot has been a bright spot with a .364 average over the past week. He should get plenty of playing time with the Twins facing a pair of lefties in this series. The team made a roster move on Sunday when they designated Jay Jackson for assignment. I think he will refuse his assignment and become a free agent. Caleb Boushley was called up to replace him. Boushley has been good for the Saints with 38 strikeouts over 41 2/3 innings of work. Jhoan Duran has allowed four runs over his past two outings. Josh Staumont hasn't allowed a run over 4 1/3 innings since his call-up.
The Nationals At A Glance- The Nationals are a young team with a bunch of talent. The Nats have lost five straight games as the Phillies swept them in Philadelphia over the weekend. CJ Abrams is a budding superstar and is hitting .269 with seven homers and twenty-one RBI. Jesse Winker has been a good additiong with five homers and twenty RBI. Luis Garcia has been good at second base with a .275 average. The Nats have a few former Twins in Eddie Rosario, Joey Gallo, and Ildemaro Vargas. Rosario is hitting just .180 with six homers and fourteen knocked in. Joey Gallo just returned from a shoulder injury. He is hitting just .129 on the year. The Nationals starting rotation owns a 4.05 ERA, which is 17th in baseball. The Twins will miss Mackenzie Gore and Trevor Williams, who have been the best starters for Washington. The bullpen is a little better with a 3.72 ERA, which is eleventh-best in MLB. Dylan Floro is having a comeback year and has allowed just one run over 22 2/3 innings. Kyle Finnegan is the closer with thirteen saves and a 1.89 ERA. Jacob Barnes, Hunter Harvey, and Derek Law have been good options out of the bullpen.
What To Watch For- The Nationals took two of three from the Twins last April in a chilly series at Target Field. The Nationals lead the all-time series at (11-10) and have won nine of the past eleven meetings. The Twins haven't been to DC since 2016 when the Nats swept them. The Nationals were the last visiting team to play at Target Field. Pablo Lopez is (4-3) with a 4.98 ERA in thirteen starts against the Nats. He has a 4.25 ERA in seven starts at Nationals Park. Patrick Corbin is (1-1) with a 4.50 ERA in two starts against the Twins. All the other projected starters have not faced their opponent. The Twins get an easier opponent, but this Nats team has a lot of young talent. They took two of three from the Dodgers in Los Angeles earlier this year.

DAILY NEWS - 10/3
Several upsets happened across sports today. The Adelaide 36ers of the Australian basketball league defeated the Phoenix Suns, the New York Jets defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Seattle Seahawks handled the Detroit Lions.
After the Atlanta Braves swept the New York Mets, they are the 3rd team in the MLB to reach 100 wins. Since they defeated the Mets in game 3 of the series and now hold the tiebreaker within the Mets - Braves, if the Braves defeat the Miami Marlins, they will clinch the NL East for the 5th straight year.
The San Diego Padres have clinched a wild card berth in the playoffs, while the Phillies' magic number is down to one after a win over the Washington Nationals. With three games remaining in the MLB season, if the Houston Astros sweep the three game series and the Milwaukee Brewers win two straight at home vs the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Philadelphia Phillies will be eliminated from playoff contention whilst the Milwaukee Brewers will clinch a wild card berth.
Additionally, if the Mariners win three straight and Toronto gets swept, they will clinch the #4 seed in the American League due to holding the tiebreaker against the Toronto Blue Jays.

2019 MLB Predictions
AL East
Boston Red Sox – (all in a Boston accent) Man do I hate them moah than those gold-chain and backwahds fitted hat wearin’ Yanks. The team just won the World Sehries in pretty easy fashion. How can I bet against ‘em? They have the same loyneup. Heck, if they strengthen theahr second base and catcha positions, there will be no stawpin’ ‘em.
New York Yankees – They added Adam Ottavino and Troy Tulowitzki. Their bullpen is filthy. They have enough home run hitters to knock it over that 200-foot right field wall. This team is poised to win 100 games. I dread watching a bunch of gold chains and bare-chested Yankee fans banging the padded outfield walls during the playoffs, but it’s going to happen, so I’ve just accepted it.
Tampa Bay Rays – This team was sneaky good last year. 90 wins and no one talked about them. Their analytics department is one of the best in baseball. They added Mike Zunino. They have an all-around solid team. They might be able to land that second wild card.
Toronto Blue Jays – They’ll hold Vlad Guerrero down until he works on his defense or loses weight until he magically figures it all out around a Super Two cutoff date. They are obviously rebuilding because they can’t compete with the top three teams above them.
Baltimore Orioles – This team is brutal. Unless Trey Mancini, Chris Davis, and Mark Trumbo find strokes again, they may lose 120 games.
AL Central
Cleveland Indians – They were rumored to be in talks with teams about trading Kluber or Bauer. They didn’t. Their lineup is still solid and they don’t have much competition in the Central.
Minnesota Twins – The Twins might be sneaky this season, unfortunately. Nelson Cruz at the DH helps. Berrios is a future Cy Young winner. They have talent.
Chicago White Sox – They didn’t land any marquee free agents. We know why. Moncada and Anderson will take steps forward. We can maybe even see the same from López and Rodón. Eloy will be up right around April 15 for some reason, and Abreu can stay healthy. They’re poised to win about 73 games…MAX.
Kansas City Royals – They’re somehow going to be worse than the Sox. They have some fast guys…I guess.
Detroit Tigers – They may trade Castellanos and Josh Harrison by the end of the season. Look for them to round off an VERY weak AL Central in 2019.
AL West
Houston Astros – Come on. It’s the Astros. My guy Alex Bregman will be in the MVP race and finish second to Michael Trout. Altuve, Correa, Cole, Verlander, Springer, etc. It’s still a loaded team.
Oakland A’s – I doubt they live up to what they did last year. They were a sneaky good team, but they also had Trevor Cahill and Edwin Jackson put together their best seasons. Not to mention, their closer was Blake Treinen. Treinen is back, but I don’t see this team being better than 2018. Maybe they’ll surprise me.
Los Angeles Angels – They got Trout. They got Ohtani. They’ll get 82 wins or something.
Seattle Mariners – They’re rebuilding. Kikuchi hides the ball better than a magician with a card up his sleeve. They have some youthful talent, but again that’s about it this season.
Texas Rangers – This is just not a very good team. That rotation is absolutely atrocious.
NL East
Washington Nationals – Eaton could be at full health. Maybe Drake LaRoche will lead them to a World Series. I don’t know. Losing Harper didn’t necessarily kill this team. They added Yan Gomes, as well.
Philadelphia Phillies – Harper joins them, and so does Cutch. This team is good now. The rotation needs some work, but the lineup can do the heavy lifting.
Atlanta Braves – They added Donaldson, but compared to the rest of the division, they didn’t improve as much over the offseason.
New York Mets – The rotation is always good, and everyone gets hurt by week 3 because their training staff is worse than coffee breath. Cano can always hit. Lowrie was a nice addition. The same goes for Wilson Ramos and Edwin Diaz. If the staff is healthy, this team is solid.
Miami Marlins – That sounds about right.
NL Central
Milwaukee Brewers – They added Grandal to catch. The rest of the team is the same. This is an easy pick.
Chicago Cubs – Watch them win the World Series because I put them here. If they don’t have injuries, this team can win the division.
St. Louis Cardinals – Goldschmidt was a heckuva addition. Maybe Fowler can stay healthy. This bullpen is still shaky, though.
Cincinnati Reds – The Reds added Kemp and Puig. They also added Sonny Gray. This team could surprise some people. That lineup is sneaky stacked.
Pittsburgh Pirates – This team is so-so. Unfortunately, they’re playing in one of the toughest divisions in baseball.
NL West
Los Angeles Dodgers – They’re still good. Kershaw is experiencing injury issues again, sadly. The rest of the team is good. They added Pollock. Catcher could be shaky, but this is still a good ball club.
Colorado Rockies – They extended Arenado and Blackmon. This is a morale boost. They’re still good.
San Diego Padres – They added the prized possession, Manny Machado. Watch out for Franmil Reyes. They dude hits for power. Tatis, Jr. will be up around the same time as Eloy and Vlad. This team is the ultimate kick to the stomach for White Sox fans. Thank GOD, they play on the west coast.
San Francisco Giants – This team is not very strong. Their best players are older than Cub fans claiming no one goes to Sox games.
Arizona Diamondbacks – They’re as weak as George Costanza without his glasses.
AL Playoffs: Red Sox, Indians, Astros, Yankees (WC), Rays (WC) NL Playoffs: Dodgers, Nationals, Brewers, Cubs (WC), Phillies (WC) World Series: Yankees vs. Nationals, Yankees = Champions

The 3 best NFL games to watch in Week 2
Tumblr media
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports
Who knew I’d be excited about Steelers vs. Raiders?
The wonderful thing about the unpredictability of Week 1 in the NFL is that it makes the follow up so much more exiting. Games I never would have circled on the calendar are now looking like must-watch matchups, not only because I want to see these teams play, but so I can get a better sense of what the heck is happening this season.
For much of the league it’s a divisional week, and while there are some curiosities here — the biggest contest I want to see come from outside.
No. 1: Raiders vs. Steelers, Sunday 1 p.m. ET — CBS
There’s something that just kind of feels magical about anticipating a game between the Raiders and Steelers, like you’re a part of football history or something.
Most people believed Pittsburgh would be really good this season, but there was fairly little expectation for Las Vegas outside of the middling mediocrity they’ve been mired in for the better part of two decades. Now it feels a little different. Both teams are coming off huge statement wins against the Ravens and Bills respectively, meaning that kind of by proxy, whoever wins will go a long way to cementing themselves as a real threat in the AFC.
Obviously Derek Carr and the Raiders have a lot more to prove here, and if they manage to beat two class AFC North teams in back-to-back weeks, well, it’s going to be interesting to see where their season goes.
No. 2: Cowboys vs. Chargers, Sunday 4:25 p.m. ET — CBS
Dallas was a hair away from beating the Super Bowl Champs in Week 1, and look like a serious contender in the NFC if Dak Prescott can remain healthy. I know, this feels like a yearly tradition, saying “This is gonna be the Cowboys’ year!” then steadily watching it crash down like a busboy struggling with too many plates. That said, it might really count this time.
Then, on the other side of the ball, you have the Chargers. I’d call them “lovable losers,” but I don’t know that the team garners enough notice to be considered “lovable” on a national level. The truth is: The die hard fans of this team deserve some hope, and Justin Herbert really is that damn good. Yes, they had an unconvincing win over Washington in Week 1, but that just makes this more of a chance to show this team is ready to turn the corner.
No. 3: 49ers vs. Eagles, Sunday 1 p.m. — Fox
Two 1-0 teams meet in a pretty fascinating matchup that, once again, I probably wouldn’t have circled before this week. I had a feeling (as did many others) that the 49ers were poised to bounce back from disappointment a year ago, and they did with a creative, gutsy win over Detroit that looked more difficult than it should have been. I’m fascinated to see if Trey Lance is brought in for more reps to throw off defenses, because that’s just fun.
Then you’ve got Philadelphia, who absolutely beat the brakes off Atlanta courtesy of Jalen Hurts, who suddenly looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. That’s likely a testament to just how bad the Falcons are, but it might also not be a fluke. The Eagles showed very little faith in Hurts during the offseason, with replacement talk being rife — but if he keeps playing like he did in Week 1 then Philly is going to be a team to watch this season.
