IDK if y'all have heard Christmas Kids by ROAR (if you have a TikTok, you almost certainly have) but I heard it again recently and it struck me as verrrry Leander/MC-coded (at least my current interpretation of Leander!). Sorry, Leander. Actually, sorry, MC; they're the one suffering here and they don't deserve it.
Also, also: I listened to Jealous by Eyedress on repeat yesterday and I want to slap it on Mhin/MC so bad. Sorry, Mhin. Actually, sorry MC again, you don't deserve this behavior.
Will this be the start of character or character/MC playlists? Hopefully not! I have other things I wanna do. But if someone makes one (including my future self 😮💨) here's my two cents.

QUICK COMBO: REFLECTION | CHAMPION | WILD FLOWER
My thoughts on this QC:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RRRRAAP MONNSTAA!
This QC is my favorite RM solo, favorite feature and favorite collaboration.
Reflection has some lines that cover a concept I've done my entire life. Whenever I'm stuck in traffic or waiting in line, I wonder if I've encountered the people around me before or will again in the future. It helps me remember that everyone is human and calm some frustrations.
I admit, I only looked into Champion because I'm a big FOB fan, but I genuinely like RM's version better than the original. It's a perfect taste of his lyrical prowress.
And Wild Flower...my love. It's honestly very rare that I like a song on first listen and Wild Flower genuinely shook me up. I remember exactly how I felt the first time hearing it and I still get that feeling today. It's an absolutely beautiful song.
(Honorable mention to Still Life. It took me a while to come around to it but it's definitely one of my jams now).

thinking about how the only time bobby and cas interact in season four is when he knocks him out cold to talk to dean alone. and the next time bobby sees him, cas is powerless and just comes to steal dean's necklace in a weird interaction that had to be filmed close-up because dean and cas are just inches from each other's face. the next time is an offscreen interaction where he just gets dean's address from bobby and probably left immediately after. combine this with the fact that bobby knew dean had a male siren the season before (and tried to be supportive) and let cas be in the family photo a few episodes later, there is a nonzero chance bobby singer was the first destiel shipper.

I can literally never decide what I want my avatar to be. I wanna use my own art but at the same time I want it to be fandom related so people can easily spot me as the weirdo that likes aliens. Tough choices :(

I’m reading Michael Crichton’s Sphere, for reasons (why am I reading this? I have other things to read...), and I’ve gotten to the bit near the beginning where the Navy chef says the guy can’t have whipped cream with the Captain guy giving the explanation that at thirty atmospheres in mixed gases cream just won’t whip.
Now, I’m fairly willing to give the book a bit of leeway, even though I’m pretty sure breathing that much helium is bad for you, mostly because I don’t actually know all that much about deep sea exploration, and the book actually gives itself a clever out by having the main character sleep through the explanation of what kind of gasses they’re breathing. (Ha! I’m right! Internet search says you can asphyxiate inhaling too much helium from a balloon, because your cells aren’t getting the oxygen they need. Take that, book!) But if you’re going to make a point that whipped cream won’t survive at thirty atmospheres (which I’m sure is wrong, I’m sure it would whip just fine because the air you’re whipping into it is at the same pressure as the air around it) wouldn’t that bring to mind that a human probably would not survive at thirty atmospheres?
(See, this is what I meant about adventure stories being based in the acquisition of knowledge. Even if the information presented is wildly wrong, I’m still learning something!)

Writing Year in Review
This year, I wrote a lot (1). Thus, inspired by all the "year in art"s I see around this time of year, and in an effort to get better at being proud of myself, I'm picking one favorite piece (2) from each month (3).
January: then i don't want to be me anymore
Fandom: DSMP
My first time trying to write for that fandom, and I don't think I've nailed the voices as well since. Also, I want to circle back to this Ender's Game AU someday because I think the comparison holds water.
April (whoops. big gap): Say it's me that you want to dismember
Fandom: DSMP
The only thing I posted in April, but I like it anyway just for the series of words "the ex-president-current-zombie". That was a good one.
May: Lord, send me a mechanic if I'm not beyond repair
Fandom: Traffic Series
This is just very soft and I like the execution on it.
June: I'm something else when I see you
Fandom: Traffic Series
I said I was going to finish this, and then I did, which already bumps it up a few points. Also I love this idea of a... happy-ish ending? Relatively happy ending? Better ending.
July: Nash Equilibrium
Fandom: Traffic Series
Playwriting is fun and I want to play more with plays as a format for fic. Given this was my first experiment into that, it will always hold a special place in my heart.
August: Snow in a Desert
Fandom: DSMP
Of course, this got jossed immediately, but I liked the dialogue in it. And the idea of Q deciding to snatch Wilbur's victory away from him just to make a point.
September: the creaking automata lurch into action
Fandom: Hermitcraft
What can I say? I'm a sucker for robots.
October: So take the wheel and I will take the pedals
Fandom: Traffic Series
I think this one takes the prize more so because I really like the rest of the AU milieu it exists in, but the dialogue is fun. "'Now, remind me: what exactly are we pulled over on the side of the road in Nevada for?' / 'To witness the awe-inspiring power of the universe.' / 'The Grand Canyon is in Arizona, my friend.'" will live in my head rent-free forever.
November: Days since last incident: 0
Fandom: Destiny
This was just short, sweet, and fun to write. Love to do dialogue.
December: 6: Hold your ground against authority
Fandom: DSMP
I was going to rag on myself for the quality and quantity of December writing and then remembered it was A) Finals season and B) I got out two Oberth Maneuver chapters so actually, I did great. And regardless, this was fun and short n sweet, which I do like writing. Don't get me wrong, love my longfic, but I also love to enter a fugue state at my computer and bang out one little concept in one sitting.
