My take on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, along w/ two of my CaTcF AUs: Gender Swap and Age Swap AU.
My Own Reimagining of CaTcF (https://www.deviantart.com/artmakerproductions/art/CaTcF-8-Re-Designs-778866997, https://www.deviantart.com/artmakerproductions/art/Digital-Art-23-Mr-Wonka-780779698):
Charlie Bucket (14): Charlie is a kind and generous boy, and does his best to help others despite being poor and having very little; however, the one thing Charlie wished for most... was chocolate. It was the most marvellously tasty treat he ever tasted. It was his one desire (aside from his family’s wellbeing) in the whole world. Charlie’s mother (and her family) are British, with his father (and his family) are Irish. Charlie has a close relationship with his grandfather (his mother’s father) who tells him stories of the famous candy maker: Willy Wonka and the marvellous candies n’ sweets he made until it closed years prior (and before it’s reopening). Augustus Gloop (12): He is incredibly babied and spoiled by his mother with food and has no manners as a result and takes what he pleases whenever. Augustus is very pushy towards others and is rather selfish. He meets his endgame after ignoring various signs put up warning of the unstable ground near the chocolate river’s edge. He loses balance and falls into the river and is sucked up the pipe that heads to the fudge room. Violet Beauregarde (15): She is a tomboyish girl with the annoying habit of chewing gum all day long. She is a hardcore skater, a skilled parkour enthusiast and an extremely fit teenager. Violet has very little responsibility and no accountability for her recklessness, which in turn leads to her downfall... After taking a piece of experimental three course gum and becomes an oversized blueberry. She is then rolled off to the juicing room to have the blueberry juice removed from her. Veruca Salt (13): Veruca is a spoiled child who cries and cries until she gets what she wants. She has never been denied anything she demands in her life. Her parents are basically her personal servants rather than actual parents. While on the tour, Wonka takes them to the Nut Room and she instantly wants one of Wonka’s trained squirrels. He tells her “no”, which enrages her. She goes to get one herself, but is tackled by the squirrels and after being declared a “Bad Nut”, she’s thrown down the garbage chute. Mike TeeVee (14): Mike is an incredibly smart, but jaded and reclusive kid with attitude problems. He doesn’t respect the older generation as he believes them to be outdated thinkers and unable to comprehend modern technology n’ stuff. Mr. Wonka throughout the tour disregards his negative (and unconstructive) criticisms as ‘mumbles’. Mike, having had enough of his nonsense, disobey Wonka’s orders and has himself teleported into the ‘World Wide Web’. Willy Wonka (??): Willy Wonka is a eccentric, energetic and mysterious man who’s always looking for new ways to create the best candies n’ sweets. As a young was a boy, he had his first ever bar of chocolate for his 11th birthday and after tasting the marvellous and delicious treat he dedicated his life to creating the most amazing candies. He lived in Brazil with his family in his youth before moving to the new country to make a name for himself. He indeed found success, but it was short lived and he was forced to close his factory as his rivals continuously stole many of his recipes. Wonka returned to his home country after the closure of his factory. While exploring the jungles of his home, he stumbled upon the elusive ‘Loompa Land’. As a boy, his mother and grandmother had told him stories of mischievous beings that lived deep within the forest called ‘Oompa Loompas’. Wonka made a deal with them to provide food, shelter and protection and in exchange for their employment at his factory. They agreed and returned to his factory where they now work as his employees and are provided with all Wonka promised (he even allowed them to design their own uniforms).
One of my main sources of inspiration for my version of Willy Wonka is Jose Carioca (of the Three Caballeros) because of his charming, eccentric and fun-loving nature, which I feel best fits with Wonka’s own character/personality.
-- Gender Swap AU (https://www.deviantart.com/artmakerproductions/art/Wonka-Gender-Swap-AU-837004637):
This isn’t based on any particular adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It’s less “This story, but w/ the characters as the opposite sex”, and more “How would their personalities/vices be applied to the opposite sex?” Ya get my drift? No? Well let’s dive head first into this anyways — ladies, gentlemen, and everything in between, I present to you: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Genderbend AU. Left to right: Willa Wonka, Charlie Bucket, Augusteen Gloop, Vernon Salt, Michelle TeaVee, Victor “Violet” Beauregarde. (First, a quick shoutout to Illord on DeviantArt for his assistance as I pretty much used bits and pieces of our conversation(s) we had with each other; w/ some minor edits). Wonka (???): Here, her personality is a mix of Ms. Frizzle, Mary Poppins and Wonka (of course). Not much of a change honestly. She has a bit more sass and giddiness to her overall character I’d suppose. Charlie (13): Like always, Charlie character is kind and honest. I based her design based off old Cinderella storybook illustrations. Like Cinderella, she wishes to see the factory and a have better life for her family. I’m thinking she’d work at a diner as a waitress/cleaner. (Didn’t change her name cause Charlie can be used by both sexes XP). Augusteen (11): The gluttonous girl here is the product of the Fat Acceptance Movement; who her mother strongly supports. She encourages her daughter to eat excessively and unhealthily foods to maintain her “perfect figure” in an act of defiance against society’s views on what a woman’s figure should be (doing more harm than good to her daughter’s health). This is meant to be a jab at how both sides of the spectrum (underweight, overweight) are both equally unhealthy and bad for the body and there should be balance. Meets her endgame when she falls into the river and is sucked up the pipe. Her mother, like I said before, showss off Augusteen as a goood representation of the big beautiful women of the world; which truth being that the little girl is just a candy-addict deep down, a true junk food junkie. For the her demise, she falls into a stawberry chocolate river — cause you know, pink is commonly associated w/ girls and this a genderbend and all that. Vernon (15): At first glance, Vernon is a very posh, very polite and typical snobbish upper class boy, the kind that has received a higher education and acts in a very adult, in a disdainful way... but, as soon as something is he wants is denied from him, he quickly becomes a childish spoiled brat, stomping his fit, using childish insults, crying, wailing and running to his parents. He constantly belittles others and flaunts his wealth and privilege to others w/ his many fur coats, trinkets and other valuable possessions. He wears these large fur coats as a means of making himself more imposing to others (i.e. Cruella de Vil). He meets his endgame in the Trail Mix Room, a stand-in for the Nut Room, where the ingredients of trail mix (berries, grains, nuts, chocolate) are sorted. Wonka uses highly trained weasels/stoat to sniff out anything that’s gone bad. When he goes down to claim one of them for himself he is attacked by the furry critters because of the scent of his fur coat — it being made from rabbit’s fur (an animal that is regularly hunted and eaten by stoats) and in the scuffle, he loses his coat to the weasels and trips falls down the garbage chute. Michelle (16): Is a self proclaimed feminist/women’s rights activist (when in reality, it’s just an excuse for her to be rude to others and think highly of herself). She binge watches the news and relays what the TV says to others. Adding nothing new to the topic(s) she talks about having no original thoughts or opinions. Not even bothering to fact check them. She continually questions or “corrects” Wonka throughout the tour, which she pays no attention to and gives snappy rebuttals to her mumbling. Michelle spends her days watching TV nonstop, to prove how sexist and mysoginistic television is in general and fight to change television so that women have power - but in doing so, her wish for a "better television" is also sexist, but towards men (and even other races/cultures); mocking them, sticking them into the same stereotypes women are stuck into, etc. Her parents don’t really know what to do with her as a majority of the time they haven’t a clue on what she’s rambling about thus letting her get away w/ whatever (property damage, harassment, etc.) Victor (16): Victor is a pro sportsman (who obnoxiously chews the same stick of gum constantly), but he only specialized in the type of sports that don't require a lot of physical effort and movement. Golfing, ping-pong, bowling or other soft sports for example. Stuff that really rich people with a lot of free time do, reinforcing the idea that his skill/talents are only skin-deep. He is very entitled, obnoxious, rude and believes no harm can befall upon him for his actions as his parents are always there to take care of it for him. He lacks foresight and lacks responsibility. Being a rather clueless idiot. He was given the nickname, “Violet” as a result of his vaguely violet coloured eyes (when really, they’re just blue), a physical trait that his folks have turned into his whole shtick as a means of helping him stand out amongst the crowd. Meets his endgame when he takes an experimental chewing gum despite Wonka’s warnings and turns into a big blueberry and has to be rolled off to be dejuiced before he explodes. The dessert of the three course meal gum is changed to another blueberry treat: cheesecake. ...
Age Swap AU (https://www.deviantart.com/artmakerproductions/art/Kid-Wonka-Adult-Winners-AU-colourized-834582620):
You can find the original: http://fav.me/ddsqjtd, and all the info for this AU can be found there. The premise of this version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is that the adults are the trouble makers (as they can be sh*tty too, just like kids or worse) and being the absolute GENIUS I am, this AU was made. To quickly recap: Wonka is pretty much the same as his book counterpart, but w/ more childish tendencies for obvious reasons, Augustus is a selfish adult who cheats his own kids out of their share of food, Violet is a highly entitled Karen stereotype w/ an annoying gum chewing habit, Mike is a grouchy boomer who constantly bad mouths Wonka’s ideas and inventions for “not making sense”, Veruca is a gold digger, a heavy drinker and partier who does nothing but spend spend spend and enjoys her privileged high class life, Charlie is a struggling young adult w/ a crummy apartment and equally crummy day-job, currently lives w/ his parents and grandparents. Everybody got that? Yes? Good, on we go. ...
Let me know what you think. Will probably do a few more drawings of these AUs later if there’s enough interest. You can find the rest of my Charlie and the Chocolate Factory related art over on my DeviantArt page: https://www.deviantart.com/artmakerproductions/gallery/67182310/catcf-related-art
