Howdy, everybody! Us here with The Rock-afire Explosion are startin' a weekly tradition where we put some playlists together each Friday for ya to start your weekend off right. These next few weeks, each of us are gonna throw together some tunes of our own, and this week is my turn! Looney Bird listens to his police scanner more than he does music proper, so we're puttin' some of our favorites together. Keep an eye out next week for Fatz's playlist!

weekly playlist: week 1!

i'm such a musichead that i need to like talk about stuff so i've decided i'm going to start a weekly playlist thing of songs that i've been vibing to a lot this week! there is no theme and the vibes are going to be all over the place but it'll be fun so why not :3

TOMBI by Kvi Baba -> i watched TriStamp with my partner a few weeks ago and this song has been haunting me ever since. Even if you're not into it, the song is genuinely a catchy bop that's worth giving a listen!

KILL IT by VUKOVI -> i have such a soft spot for british girl alt rock. the instrumental is really fun and upbeat, and the inclusion of synthesizers gives the brain such a good itch

Times is Hard by Nicola Wincenc -> a more obscure pick but a really good one. an experimental track that i've been looping for months at this point

Side Character by cloudfodder -> a song that i've only really been listening to through spotify radio, but one that's been playing in the back of my head more often than not. yes it is sad indieboy music but it's pretty good imo

Your Father's Son by Shayfer James -> i'm a longtime shayfer james fan i couldn't not include one of my favorite songs in this. your father's son is a scathing letter to the cycle of abuse and it knocks the shit out of me every single time i listen to it

Stuck With Yourself by NEW LANGUAGE -> obscure alt rock pick that i've been pretty obsessed with lately! if your father's son is a second-person letter to the cycle of abuse then stuck with yourself is a cry for help

Silent Running by Gorillaz ft. Adeleye Omotayo -> do i even need to explain this one it's fucking gorillaz. my mom likes them

the Pattern by The Narcissist Cookbook -> i've been meaning to listen to the rest of the album, but it's another one of those #relatable cries for help, and it's been getting stuck in my head more often than not these days and it's a good fucking song

delusionalism by MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS -> another track that's got me wanting to listen to a whole discography! really love the vocals in this track and messy instrumentals

GIMME DA BLOOD by C-Show -> this is how i out myself as being a rhythm game freak but this is such a good fucking edm track that you can use to break your car's stereo system. enough said about that

Fuck About It by Waterparks (ft. blackbear) I just really fucking like this song okay? like I love waterparks so much and they do make my brain go brrrr but also I saw this song performed live before MCR day 5 and like wow they are suck good performers it is insane. Also we go a little feral. as a treat.

Out Like a Light by The Honeysticks Idk this song makes me happy. Not in like a catharsis way like most of my other favorite songs but in like a just nice to listen to way. I don't actually listen to any other songs by The Honeysticks but maybe i should hm. If anyone has any suggestions lmk!

Taste by Stray Kids I was on that Stray Kids Comeback grind and case 143 is a fire bop but like Taste though?!?! Illegal. Like actually. We thought Red Lights was dangerous?? Taste is a straight up Crime. anyways can't wait to see the full slutracha choreography for it.

Cure by The Rose God I love The Rose so much! anyways remember how I said I was on that Stray Kids comeback grind? well actually I prolly did a bit more on The Rose's because I love them and also this is their first album after their hiatus and all that stuff and if anyone deserves it, its them. The whole album would be on this list if I could but I have decided to only put one song per album on the list (you just learned about this restriction if you decided to read this surprise). Moving on, I chose this song because: 1) it is good and 2) it is prolly my most played song. Also it really encapsulates that british rock, old coldplay, the 1975 sound that the rose is so good at. Also Woosung, the lead singer has such an insane voice I love it so much.

Why Do I (with Hatsune Miku) by Set It Off Yes you read that correctly. Set It Off did a song with Hatsune Miku and it Bops. Maxx is insane for this. I want to see what the meeting with the label was like when he introduced the idea of vocaloids to executives lol.

Also making my favourite characters go through hell and then receiving comfort from their people is like the best thing ever for me so every time I see a whump!Robin post I like automatically

People loving android!Robin makes me so happy anansnssndsnsns she's curious and excitable and full of wonder and the world keeps punishing her for simply being alive. Sometimes it's too painful even for me, big whump lover 😭😭 though seriously, there is not enough Robin whump, and while all the characters in the show are very whumpeable, hurting my little blorbo Robin feels special because... she's just so deeply lonely. She's lonely and she thinks she deserves to be because of something wrong with her (pulling this interpretation from Surviving Hawkins lore which is canon to me 😭). That was a big idea I had when I first came up with android!Robin... that there is something wrong with her. Broken. In this AU she's literally broken in a lot of way (battery and memory problems, weak joints in her lower half, etc), but that's all within the range of normal robot problems. The real issue with her is that she's sentient. It terrifies people because it really brings out the existencial horror of... well, existing. It terrifies Robin most of all. She is the problem. She is what's wrong with her. She shouldn't exist.

But at the same time, she loves being alive so much! She doesn't understand it and doesn't know how it happened, but it happened, and now she's real and wants to experience life and the world and know people like human beings do. So it's her constant battle to become human despite humans having hurt her so much in the past... only for Nancy to already see her as human. Just one made of metal and plastic, but human nonetheless. She's the first person to see her that way and maybe everyone else thinks she's crazy, but Nancy is used to that. She's so sure of this, though, of Robin's self-awareness. She trusts her so blindly. She doesn't even need proof. And not only does she believe her, but she defends her humanity in front of her friends and family so ardently, fighting so hard for Robin to be aknowledged by everyone else as human. Fighting so hard to give her a home and family for the first time in her life.

Nancy has it bad for Robin, really. She's just so in love, even if everyone else thinks she's crazy for falling in love with a machine (no one thinks she is, though, because they all know Robin, and once you know Robin, it's impossible not to love her).

I'm liking the idea of weekly music recs rather than daily ones. I like the idea of slowly digesting and living with a song for longer than just 3 minutes. I like the idea of coming back to a piece of music. I like the idea of discovering little pockets of musical gems within a song, grow attached to a riff, be able to ruminate on lyrics, motifs, themes and to slowly fall in love with something, aided by familiarity.

I am enjoying recommending music as individual embeds rather than a playlist that you can just put on. I guess, where you have to take a moment to look at the artist name and song title, rather than just 'something's automatically playing off my Spotify right now'.

I've been posting the Song-to-go polls for the last 3 weeks, and I'm seeing it's working a bit differently to the usual polls: when people post polls, you usually see the votes outnumber the notes, but instead it's the opposite here! I see people sort of drafting or reblogging the poll, so that they can actually sit down and listen to it properly later and then vote (and it means a lot to me that voting on a little poll of unknown songs is something people put care, thought and time of day into, it makes me really happy to see!).

I guess I'm just loving the idea of a slower, more thoughtful consumption, it's a little different I think to what I'm able to do on radio, which is quite one-and-done (tbf, with good reason. I think you should think of the radio as a preview of music to broaden your palette, especially in today's age of instantly available streaming. When radio caters to just indulgently re-playing your favourite old music, I think it forgets its place within the music industry and starts facing its inevitable death, though I am saying this as someone who has had to be mindful of using radio as a medium to offer something streaming cannot, which is why anyone listens to me at all. I think).

Embarrassingly, I've genuinely fist-pumped the air or made equally silly little gestures of excitement on reading people's tags on the polls. I hope you're having as much fun with this as I am.

Ramblings of a Lunatic by Bears in Trees Well for one this is the song that first got me into Bears in Trees and also it is just good. Its so vibey and like even though it is like not the most upbeat song it is still comforting idk. Anyways I think its a good song and also that everyone should go check out Bears in Trees they are so underrated and deserve better

God Complex by PKCH This is a song by pukicho, unironically I listened to like all of their songs on repeat for straight up hours its a problem. If he doesn't show up on my spotify wrapped I will be shocked

I couldn't find a playlist that used the Winter Soldier's activation code so I simply made one. Working in these restraints was actually very fun and I have to say, I'm incredibly proud of this one. I feel like all the songs I picked for his words work both musically and lyrically and the order of the other ones was picked very deliberately as well. Normally this kind of rant goes in the tags but I wanted to include it here to ask that if you ever listen to a playlist of mine from start to finish, make it this one :D
