When it comes to office fit-outs Adelaide businesses don’t have to go far to find CBD-based Contour. Whether you’re looking to relocate your office premises in Grenfell Street, or looking to refurbish your existing space in Edinburgh, we are centrally located to be able to service your requirements across the city.
Fitout- a result of the changing Nature of work
Fitouts have not been as relevant as they are today. It is a popular style and concept in this fast-changing world of work. There is a paradigm shift in work culture. It now demands more time and innovative ideas to keep employees motivated. Technology is changing to suit the need of a young employee. So, work space also needs to change giving such employees a better physical environment.
With Beek Build Fitout offices, you can ensure efficient use of available space and resources. It is as simple as giving the old white box a fresh look, turning the workspace into a place of growth and development.
Once you know the need of your employee, a fit-out is customized to suit your budget and company ethos. Let’s not one minute forget that a happy employee today, epitomizes the brand and its value in the market.
Happy employees like to work in happy spaces; and Fit-outs structures are the quickest way to reach that goal.
Old versus New
No one likes the traditional office setting anymore- white boxes with cabins and plain walls. Now, a vibrant collaborative work culture demands innovation, colour, and out-of-the-box workspace designing. The new Fitouts transform and convert boring white boxes into a colorful setup(s) giving them a fresh vibe.
With Beek Build Fitouts, we create a lot of sitting and standing areas for employees and visitors. This creates a warm bond between people, helps them ideate and collaborate better. In short, it brings people together, creating a more informal and interactive environment. Also, the new design accommodates more people as compared to the traditional one.
In the old set up, one could see duct tapes, wires and other such manipulations and additions made with changing times and demands. But, with Fitouts, even a switch is positioned aesthetically. The whole emphasis is on the ‘feel-good-factor’ to come and work. A lot of emphasis is also given on lighting (be it natural or artificial), colors and also fresh air.
All this adds up to the positivity of the work space. We are always compelled to incorporate a lot of green elements. Fresh air and wellbeing is paramount to all Beek Build designs.
Resources and Technology
An optimum utilization of the available space and resources is the key to a successful Fitout. We are experts on this. Each corner is designed such that it adds some sort of value to the entire workspace.
The designs are diverse. We don’t comprise on adding in latest technology and we are super serious about maintaining sustainability at workspace too. Our clients come back to us precisely for this reason- conformity to the environmental laws, adding to the environment compliance of any company.
In today’s time, when the economy is rapidly changing, workspace should be able to accommodate more staff. Beek Build Fitouts are the definite cost effective way to meet this need. Additionally, it helps creatively design space to accommodate special need for areas for rest, entertainment, contemplation and ideation meetings. All this caters to the needs of an evolving employee, directly impacting the productivity of a company.

Design thinking makes form follow function in our digital world
Tumblr media
Loose Ends for Monday, June 19, 2017
By Patrick Connelly Project Manager, Twisted Rope
"Design thinking" is a concept being heard again and again today in this modern era of digital transformation in the business world.
As companies look to adapt to a changing base of consumers from business sector to business sector, design thinking has popped up as a strategy for innovation in which form follows function.
Design and development teams like ours at Twisted Rope are using design thinking to get into the minds of consumers (or, users).
Teams are using this strategy to put together solutions for clients that, in the end, are a direct benefit to the end user (consumer) who visits a particular business's website. Design thinking is simplifying things for anyone who may visit a website or use an app, making the call-to-action (or point of purchase) easier to access and, often times, much more direct.
Commonly, the strategy used behind the methodology of design thinking is exploring ways to build or improve a wesbite or app through systemic reasoning, logic and imagination that aim to follow a user's intuition or make things feel instinctive.
Teams are enabling clients with these solutions through calculated research, ideation, prototyping and proper implementation.
The key in this is "making sure the customer journey is satisfied," Lesley Tully, the head of design thinking at Bank of Ireland, told Silicon Republic.
"It's human-centred design, it's solving customers' problems," she added. "That's what it is."
Design thinking relies heavily on collaboration with user exerience (UX) and user interface (UI) experts, two disciplines we are incorporating in our design and development processes at Twisted Rope.
The idea itself that form follows function came from Louis Sullivan, an architect who is credited as being the "father of modernism."
Central, of course, to modern design thinking is creativity.
"Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like," Apple founder Steve Jobs said. "People think it's this veneer -- that the designers are handed this box and told, 'Make it look good!' That's not what we think design is. It's not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
In design thinking, the three most important aspects of the strategy are function, form and aesthetic, Mike Lang, a technology strategist and educator in Las Vegas, recently wrote in an article on EdSurge, a website offering resources to those working at the intersection of technology and education.
Lang himself began studying the concept of design thinking after hearing "form follows function" in a song by the rapper Lupe Fiasco by the same name.
"It all begins with function, which marries the empathy and analysis components of design thinking." writes Lang. "Using observations of the world, conversations and provocations, [users] start down a path that allows them to question what happens [next]."
"Using the Sullivan [m]ethod, the concepts of choice and collaboration are ubiquitous in my classroom," Lang added. "Whether designing video games or planning a video to explain how to create equivalent fractions, [my] students have a structure in which to operate as freely as they wish. My goal was to utilize Sullivan and design thinking to impact student outcomes and build skyscrapers, with the only limit to their ambition their own imaginations."
This is the same logic being used by teams like Twisted Rope incorporating design thinking into development.
As the time and attention of users is constantly these days at more and more of a premium with all the information available at a person's fingertips, design thinking is without a doubt a methodology that's not only welcomed in our modern world, but one that's here to stay.

Welcome to Kaeliria!
Hello and welcome to my blog devoted to the development of my board game Kaeliria.
It’s a project for my Graphic design project class at FHS-Salzburg and here, in this blog, you can follow the line up and how does my game develop!
The brief (as in the Mediacube wiki):
Design a Board Game for Children That Helps to Educate Them About Anthropocene and Sustainability
The Anthropocene is perhaps the most pressing issue in the world today and for many, the need for more sustainable practices is the key to continuing to exist on this planet. In order to educate future generations on this topic, your group will design a traditional board game that implements gamification strategies into this educational process.
While the game needs to be an analog board game, groups have the option to incorporate smart phones (as an accompanying app) if they choose to (BOTH OPTIONS ARE TOTALLY FINE!)
Outcomes will consist of
1. A Design Brief 2. User Scenarios 3. An Overal Educational Game Strategy 4. The Game including rules, board, cards, pieces, everything else 5. A Box Design 6. A Poster 7. A Logo 8. A Wesbite/App Mockup 9. A Promotional Strategy (TV? Online? Social Media? App? Something else?) 10. A PDF document demonstrating the design processes, mock ups, font choices, target audience, response to the brief.
Aims: draws attention to environmental problems, educates children as well as adults
So, what is Kaeliria?
Kaerilia is the imaginary island where every player cooperates with others to create a well-functioning society in a sustainable environment. The game deals with environmental problems and draws attention to anthropocene, micronations, sustainability and ecology.
What’s in the game box?
"Kaeliria” consists of a map, one black “Problems” deck, five coloured “Solutions” decks, five cards of roles, 10“Micronations” cards, 10 “Crisis” cards, 100 coloured blocks of “Resources”. The backs of the cards do not represent the cards’ colours!
How do you play?
The concept is simple - the players (up to 5) each draw a card stating their role in the game - Minister of Urgent situations, Minister of Wildlife, Minister of Health, Minister of Hygiene and Prime Minister and each role has its colours (respectively yellow, green, red, blue and white). Every player draws a hand of 7 cards.
Each turn a new problem occurs on the map - the Prime Minister draws the top card of the Problems deck and places it on the map where the card states.
The problems vary in four different categories - shown on each card - yellow, green, red and blue.
Yellow-lined problem cards refer to urgent situations like floods, wildfires, deforestation, etc. Those problems are to be solved by the Minister of urgent situations.
Green problems are solved by the Minister of Wildlife. He deals with illegal hunting, animal abuse, etc.
Red is for the Minister of health and pose threats to people’s well-being. Those cards usually represent illnesses, epidemic, loss of valuable medicine research, etc.
Blue problems are targeted by Minister of Hygiene. They cause pollution of water, air, soil, etc.
Every minister is able to solve one problem during each turn and earn 1, 2 or 3 Resource cubes (stated on the Solution card they used). [When 2 or 3 resources are gained, one goes in the pool of the Prime Minister.] If they want to solve another one in the same turn they have to pay a certain amount of resources (listed on every Problem card). If the responsible minister has less resources than needed, they can ask the Prime Minister for one cube. This is possible 4 times during the whole game.
For example: If Minister of health wants to cure a sickness - he spends no resources, regardless of the amount of resources listed on the Problem card and he gains as much as there are stated on the Solution card. But if he wants to start new medicine research he has to pay the amount of resources listed on the card.
The Prime minister has the power to trade cards between players. If a minister has no Solution card and they need one, they can ask the Prime Minister for help. The Prime minister then asks any other minister for the needed card or gives it himself if he has in on his deck or draws a random card from the pool of cards.
During the game every three solutions made next to one another a Micronation is placed there. For 5 Micronations the game is won. For every three unsolved problems, close to each other a Crisis is placed there. For 3 Crisis cards the game is lost.
--------
Thanks for your attention up to now! Here I ask you to fill this form and give me your honest opinions about the draft of my concept up to now. You are also free to ask me questions if something is not quite clear - that way I can review my work and make it better for my final presentation. In my next post I will rewrite what needs to be rewritten and will also add my concept sketches. Thanks so much for your time!

I've spent the past few months preparing my business for launch, it's a wesbite/app, and I'm now heading to development firms to help build it.Most have not had any issues signing my NDA or providing their own which has been reasonable, but one development firm has been more difficult. We're asking that they basically don't run with our app or give it away to a competitor- not that I expect that they would do either of those (they are a fairly well established firm). When presented our NDA, they specifically asked that we remove a section solely precluding them from sharing confidential information and also presented their own NDA which also does not protect against their potential sharing of confidential information and where they have a section which prevents us from seeking damages if they do.I'm not really sure how to proceed with them or why it is such a problem for them especially considering all the other development firms are so much more reasonable.I don't really think everyone I talk to about my business (investors, friends and acquaintances) needs an NDA, but for a development firm that will intimately know my business and have the capability of building my product, it seems to make sense to me to have some kind of protection.Anyways, would love to hear some of your thoughts on this
