I went to see the wizard who makes my testosterone today and I told him about how people pull their children away from me and curse me out and call me a groomer or a pedophile for the crime of being visibly transgender in a small conservative town and he gave me an unusual prescription. Go to a store down the street. Walk there, leave your car at the clinic and just walk down this street to this store.

And I did. And I saw more pride flags than I've ever seen in my life. Strangers complimented me. I saw a dog with a pride bandana. I got coffee at a little cafe on the way from a barista with their pronouns on her name tag.

And I got to the store. Queer and indigenous run. Selling binders and swim suits and flags and all sorts of hand crafts and beadery and books. And I broke down in tears. I'd never seen anything like it. I'd never felt so safe and accepted and like,,, liked, not just begrudgingly tolerated but celebrated as a queer person

I was blocked on this for the longest time but Justin's resignation kind of reminded me of the spirit of the thing again and I realized, wait, we haven't really explored what pushed Bertie to board that plane and show up like a wet r*t on the doorstep. Any excuse to draw more prairie bros :)

back at u of t when wexit was big in the news, the western canadian contingent of my cohort formed a group chat called wexit and "let's wexit on out of here" became a common phrase during our trip to ottawa, so it's stuck with me lol. Fond memories of showing our Ontarian classmates our shitty Alberta health cards at their bougie rest stops.

BC isn't real. would a person who's definitely not hiding in BC say that? Maybe.

I did try to think of spicier insults than "liberal" but the only one i could think of that wasn't gross was hypocrite and that didn't fit contextually, sigh sigh. but it remains an enormous insult in alberta at least ahaha

interesting going into r/canada and seeing some of the most racist people alive and how they justify it "why can't the refugees just go home" is a common sentiment i saw and well. frequently people are mad at the lack of jobs and blaming the refugees and immigrants "stealing them" and its strange.

ugh, yeah, r/canada definitely skews right. I wouldn't recommend it as any sort of indicator of how the majority of canadians are feeling

I hardly use reddit these days, but I was poking around there during our last elections and had to cringe at all the wexit posts. the west coast doesn't want you guys either!!!
