Bath Time
The recent death of the conscientiously eccentric 7th Marquess of Bath serves as a reminder that for a long time his family, the Thynnes, owned a large estate in County Monaghan, including the east side of Carrickmacross. Evidence of their former presence can be found in the town, such as here on what is now called St Joseph’s Terrace but was originally known as Weymouth Cottages (Viscount…

The Queen to the Prince of Wales
5 Aug. 1795
I have surely not anything to say of very great importance for myself, but as everything comes to be so that concerns those we love I look upon yr. commission to send some pigs for the Princess sufficiently great as to write you a letter to announce their departure this morning alive, directed to Mrs. Willis in town, who is to forward them immediately to Brighton. They are to be refreshed upon the road with milk so that they will be fit for killing immediately, & I hope they will prove to the Princess’ taste. My little black lady would not vouchsafe to acoucher sooner than 10 weeks to come & Sr. George Howard has been so good as to give these up to me, & are the same breed as mine.
The crinckles at Kew have not been forgot, but at present none are to be had, & this little luxury as well as many others are forbidden fruit for some time to come. He [sic] bien, il faut s’y faire; c’est une petite chose en comparaison de bien des autres.
I hope now soon to see you, & when we have had a little more conversation, to see Dr. Underwood on Wednesday next at Kew. I have not as yet heard of any recommendation for a nurse, & therefore beg that in case you have to bring the letters that enquiries may be made after them.
Our life is very quiet at present; no company but our two Ladies with us in the house, & the weather so bad that the Kg. only can go out. Today there is a gleam of sunshine, & that moment I have chose to write to you in hopes of making my ideas also appear brighter, but I am afraid of not having quite succeeded so well.
You have heard, I suppose, of poor Goldsworthy’s attack, quite similar to what you were witness of. He was a full hour quite senseless notwithstanding cupping & bleeding. He is now almost quite well without any bad simptoms remaining, but not strong enough to think of going as Equerry in Waiting to Weymouth. He will come as a visitor and that will be very agreable.
We have dined at Ld. Beaulieu last Tuesday & after we left him he took a ride, heated himself very much, would not drink anything warm, choose to eat quantitys of fruit, the consequence of which was a fainting fit which made the world think he has had a stroke, but he has been in town since, also upon the Terrace, & I hope will make his bow on Tuesday next; but, to say the truth, he goes very fast.
I think it is now time to release you. I shall only beg my compliment to the Princess & assure you that I long for Tuesday pour vous assurer de bouche combien je vous suis attachée & que je cesserai d’etre.

West End Railway Hotel
40 Weymouth Terrace
Southampton
SO15 1QJ
Standing in the Western Esplanade, this old hotel was once the property of Aldridge's Bedford Brewery. Dating back to 1880 when James Keeping was the licensee, the building was demolished in the late 1930s when the road from the main railway station up to the Civic Centre was built.

Titanic, Jersey and a brand new home
It’s New Years Day 2019 and much like everyone else, I like to look back over the last 12 months to just remind myself of all the things I’ve done in just a few short months. Simply put, I’ll pick out a few highlights from each month to reminisce over.
January. Always a weird one I find, but often can throw in some nice events. You come out of Christmas not knowing what the new year will bring or what you’ll achieve, but I like the uncertainty. Two things to mention in the first month of the year was that I was lucky enough to get a ticket to watch Yeovil VS Man United in the FA cup at Huish which was actually electric, despite a 4-0 less it was a great evening out and something I’ll remember. A massive thing for myself in January was auditioning for an FMTC show, more specifically ‘Titanic’ that was to be on in May. Easily one of the most nerve wracking things I’ve ever done, but I managed to secure the role of ‘Jim Farrell’. More on this show later.
February and a couple of nice little highlights. First proper gig of the year was Don Broco in Cardiff and I was back on stage again, playing ‘Hugo’ in ‘the Vicar of Dibley’. This was a brilliant role to play with a fantastic bunch of people, especially the incredibly talented Tina who was our Geraldine.
Tumblr media
March and it snowed. A lot. Several times. I loved it. We always head to the David Beech awards in March and this year Tri Art walked away with ‘Best Youth Production’ for the stunning ‘Les Mis’. We also got the Vicar of Dibley crowd together again for a fun gala event and Jess and I went to an evening with Brian Blessed in Salisbury where we were fortunate enough to meet the man afterwards, what a life and what a fantastic evening.
April was a good month. I took Ed to Wookey Hole because he’d never been), Jess and I found a little National Trust gem in Great Chalfield Manor, I saw my first ever live rugby match watching Bath at Twickenham (it had nothing on football, sorry), there was a lovely day out with Jess’s work as we took part in a pets as therapy dog walk around Prior Park, The Star Awards took place, a group of us headed to the Mayflower in Southampton to watch the professional version of Titanic: The musical in preparation for our own production and Lower than Atlantis put on an incredible show at Komedia in Bath.
Tumblr media
May. Titanic. I truly would never have believed that I would have ever been in an FMTC show, but after months of rehearsals we put on what was the most incredible show at the Memorial Theatre. I have never been so proud of what we achieved as a group of people, but also of myself. I’ll never forget the show, nor the people or the journey. Hands down one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. I must of course mention the Slam Dunk festival, which in 2018 moved to a new outdoor home. I was dubious at first, but it turns out it was a huge improvement to the now overcrowded university space and one of the best years yet. I was lucky enough to be given tickets by my brother to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in London this month, and I have to say it was probably the best thing I’ve seen on a stage. I know lots of fans disagree, but I was simply blown away by the production and urge anyone to go and see the show if they can. To make May even better, myself and Jess visited a sales office for a house that was yet to be built too… June and Scott had his stag do down in Weymouth. This was great fun and involved Ed purchasing an OAP trolley, drag queens and superhero outfits. June always means the End of Year Show at work, and of course who could forget the World Cup this year. June also saw a little proud moment for me as I put on show some of my photographs from the past few years at the Merlin Theatre. It was so exciting to see my images on the walls of the venue they were from as well as getting them off my computer and opening them to a new audience.
July and handsome Scott got married on a hot summers day and I was lucky enough to be his photographer. July also saw a fun garden party for G’s 18th and the continuation of the heatwave that, despite insane temperatures, was actually fantastic.
August and some rest bite from work saw a few days out with Jess’s family in lieu of a full blown holiday away which actually worked so well with Dave buying a minibus to ship us all around in. Nunney Street Fayre took place on the annual bank holiday and we climbed the church roof to gain a new view of the village, Tri Art’s show this year was ‘In the Heights’ (I highly recommend it) and we had a little charity football tournament in the style of ‘The real world cup’. The best part of August though had to be my holiday to Jersey. I haven’t been away in so long and a small handful of us took the ferry to the island where we camped under the stars, visited lots of historical landmarks and drank lots of wine. A wonderful few days away with fantastic friends.
Tumblr media
September is my birthday and it’s always improved when Cheese Show falls on the same day. With the end of the heatwave saw rainy days and this continued through to the carnival, but Frome did itself proud again and lined the streets as we advertised our two upcoming shows of ‘Joruney’s End’ and the Christmas show which this year was going to be ’The Nutcracker’. The new term at work began, and I became a student again as I began my course to become a qualified teacher.
October and the nights draw in which means making time for warming winter gigs. Two I went to this month were the awesome Hands Like Houses and a stellar comeback for Lonely the Brave as Jack (of Grumble Bee fame) becaMe the new lead singer for the Band. I was lucky enough to see him and the band play their first show together, but not before catching a matinee in the west end seeing ‘School of Rock’ with Kirst.
November this year saw one of the best gigs I’ve been to in a long time, with State Champs blowing the room off the Bristol O2. We were also making the final preparations for the upcoming Nutcracker shows at the Merlin and Jess and I spent a lot of time packing up our lives from Newington Terrace.
December. Jess and I finally had the keys to our first ever owned home and we couldn’t be happier. Our new little house is beautiful and we couldn’t be more proud to have spent our first Christmas here. I cooked for 7 of us as we piled the whole Merritt family into our new living room.
Tumblr media
So that was 2018. A year of real highs and a lot I have to be thankful for.
2019 has lots already booked in including my next show starring in ‘Allo Allo’, potentially auditioning for FMTC’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jess and I need to put the final touches into our new home, I need to buy my Slam Dunk ticket for May, I’m taking Jess to see American Idiot in Southampton and dad turns 60 this year.
I don’t have any real resolutions, but I’d like to read more novels, get back into running and take a real holiday with Jess
Album of the Year // Tough call this year, but I think ‘VI’ by You Me at Six was an underrated great piece of music
Game of the Year // Spider-Man. An essential PS4 exclusive.
Movie of the Year // A whole host of great movies came out this year, but I’d have to say that Mission Impossible Fallout was one of the best. The biggest disappointment for me was that Fantastic Beasts 2 couldn’t get anywhere near the original masterpiece.
Thanks 2018 and Hi 2019.
Bring it on.

Note
what do you and our sisters do all day?? it must get boring being stuck with the Queen all the time :(
Dear Anonymous,
We occupy ourselves with needlework, walks on the terrace, handing the queen her precious snuff, reading (but the books must have been approved by our dear Mother before we are allowed to have them...)
For amusements, the Queen reads sermons out loud. Occassionally we go to Weymouth where we can bath in the ocean, or sail; though I will confess that I do not particularly enjoy either of those things.
The most enjoying activity I am allowed is to mount a horse and ride around Windsor Park - though I am often too ill to do so.
So as you see, my sisters and I live a life filled to the brim with endless merriment.

And in the last minute we could go to Weymouth. (antecedent)
/És az utolsó pillanatban, csak el tudtunk menni Weymouth-ba is. (előzmények)
There is a quite big walking streets area in the city center. In the daytime they are lock up it by car traffic.
/ A városközpontban elég nagy területen sétálóutcák vannak. Napközben az egészet lezárják az autós forgalom elől.
The beach is in the city center. It’s sandy and insensible long.
/ A strand is a városközpontban van. Homokos és eszméletlenül hosszú.
The harbour surrounding full with pubs and restaurants. People are everywhere. We tried to drink a coffee in the afternoon. It was an impossible mission. It was approx 6pm. and the café was close. Next to the café was a pub. Their machine was wrong. In the nearest english pub was coffee, but after 15minutes waiting still nobody care with us, so we left that place as well. We though in the tiny italian restaurant are going to save us. Four little tables in the building, 6 little tables in the terrace. The place was almost empty. They had a proper, beautiful coffee machine. But unfortunately they said, sorry we are a restaurant. If you don’t want to eat, we couldn’t give you a coffee. That point we fed up. In the way back we tried again in the 2 flour pub because we saw the sign lavazza coffee. Counter everywhere, beer, meals, ciders. Lots of, lots of workers. But the coffee coming from an automata, but you can’t use it with your many. First you need to pay in the counter. The queue was almost same long than the beach. So we fed up again. Finally we drank a terrible coffee next to the car park in the thai restaurant…They wanted to sell for them something. And it was a good feeling. So we ate as well. It wasn’t good, but they were lovely…
4 pici asztal bent, 6 pici a teraszon. Végül ettünk is. Nem volt életünk kajája, de legalább ki akartak minket szolgálni. Ez is valami.
But otherwise we really like Weymouth. We can understand if somebody would like to live there!

HOW TO INVEST IN PROPERTY WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH CASH
Most of the time, you need cash if you want to invest. But how do you build that stash in the first place? Here are 6 ways to go about it.
As suggested by the word “invest”, you need money to buy a property.
That should be so obvious there's no reason to take up valuable space on the internet by writing it. But – probably due to hazy pre-2006 memories and courses that sell the dream more than the reality – there are an amazing number of people who find it an unpleasant shock when I tell them they'll need access to cash if they want to invest.
(OK: there are ways into property – like rent-to-rent – that involve very little money. But as you're just controlling the cashflow from an asset rather than owning it, I wouldn't call it investing as such.)
In my book, the “Complete Guide”, despite calling it “complete” I didn't cover how to get the money together in the first place – in the same way that a magazine reviewing cars wouldn't start with an article about how to afford them. But the ability to generate cash is important – especially as remortgaging gets more restricted – so it's worth having a quick run-through the main ways to build that stash.
SAVE AGGRESSIVELY
Radical as it sounds, you could always save up until you've got the money. After all, property is an investment: you'd not consider investing in shares, wine or vintage pornography without having any capital, so why should property be any different?
Unless you're wired a bit strangely (like I am), saving isn't fun – but it's straightforward, it's within your control, and it's predictable. Just track your spending (I use Toshl) so you're aware of where your money goes, then find ways to reduce it as far as you can.
Look at it this way: every pound you don't spend on something else (or extra pound you earn) is a pound you can invest in property. Actually, if you're using a 75% mortgage, every pound you don't spend means you can buy four pounds' worth of property.
Some quick tips to have more left at the end of the month:
Move to somewhere smaller or a cheaper area to save on rent
Review your day-to-day spending in Toshl, and I bet you'll find £5 per day to cut out without much anguish. That's £1800 a year right there.
Earn more! Start a microbusiness to bring in an extra couple of hundred per month, whether that's selling handcrafts on Etsy or doing the same as your day job on a freelance basis in the evenings
Cancel stuff! Sky TV can run to over £500 per year. A gym is easily £600
Set up a regular transfer to automatically transfer 1/3 of your wage to a savings account as soon as you get it. If the money's not there, you can't spend it
Depending on your situation it might be impossible, but it's probably a lot more possible than you think. If property investment is important to you, be prepared to be uncomfortable for a while in order to make it real.
While you're saving, read about property every day and meet as many people as you can. It'll make you a better investor when you're ready to start, and it'll keep you motivated through all those sportless (no Sky), flabby (no gym) winter nights in Grimsby (cheaper area) knitting funky hats for ferrets (extra income).
BORROW AGAINST YOUR OWN HOME
You might have little in the way of cash, but lots of equity in your own home. Some people in this situation choose to extend their mortgage to release the cash to invest elsewhere.
Is it the right thing to do? Only you can answer that: would you rather be able to start investing earlier, or have the security of paying down your personal mortgage?
If you do decide you want to, there are a few things to consider:
Some mortgage providers will be happy for you to borrow more against your house in order to invest in property, others won't – you'll need to check with your lender or broker
Mortgages on your own home tend to be the cheapest debt you'll ever have, but it does mean that the property you buy will be effectively 100% mortgaged – so you'll have to check carefully that you'll be cashflow positive after repayments
Your residential mortgage will be assessed based on your income, so you'll need to be able to show enough earnings to tap into that equity
RENT ROOMS IN YOUR HOME
If you own your own home, you can raise money by renting out a spare room – and the first £7,500 you receive is tax-free.
You can find a lodger through a site like hbook.pk, and even specify that you only want someone who'll stay Monday-Friday if you want some privacy at weekends.
If you're willing to put in more work, you'll get higher returns by renting your room through a short-term lettings site like Airbnb. You'll have to take the time to correspond with booking enquiries, then check people in and out and deal with cleaning on a regular basis, but the profits can be very high if you live in an area with decent tourist or business demand.
BORROW A DEPOSIT
Here's a terrible idea: you could take out a car loan, lie to the lender about what you're going to do with it, lie to your mortgage lender about where the deposit has come from, and get your deposit that way.
Another terrible idea: Get a cash advance on a credit card and use that (at astronomical rates of interest) as your deposit.
I'd never do either of these things: not because I have any scruples whatsoever, but I'd just be too scared about everything unravelling. I don't recommend anyone does these things. But you know what? Plenty of outlandishly successful people got started by doing things that seem like a terrible idea to almost everyone else.
Another option is to borrow money from a relative. This is something that gets mentioned in ‘how to get started in property' books a lot, but I've never quite understood why a relative would lend money to someone with no track record to invest in property. If you really know your stuff and can produce a compelling business case, it might be worth a shot.
Another method suggested in ‘get started in property' books is approaching relatives who'll probably leave you something in their will and ask them for an advance. I just love this one. “Hey grandma! You know how you're bound to die soon? And I help pick up your shopping sometimes? Well, check out this cosy little end-of-terrace in Weymouth…

The UK’s best seaside events and attractions for summer 2019 | Travel
Watersports
Boardmasters (from £69 day ticket/£179 five-day camping ticket, 7-11 August) is a surfing and music festival in Newquay, Cornwall. Headliners at Watergate Bay are Wu-Tang Clan, Florence and the Machine and Foals, while pro-surfing, skating and BMX competitions take place on Fistral Beach. As well as surfing, festivalgoers can go paddleboarding, coasteering or kayaking, join daily beach yoga sessions or chill out in wood-fired hot tubs.
Wheels and Fins (from £36 day ticket/£103 weekend camping, 7-8 September) is another sporty festival right on the beach, at Joss Bay in Broadstairs, Kent, with surfing, paddleboarding and yoga, pro-skateboarders and a punk lineup topped by Slaves. The Beach Life festival (free entry, 13-14 July) in Eastbourne, East Sussex, has taster sessions of sailing, windsurfing and paddleboarding (£10 each), a giant paddleboard race, plus land-based sports such as skating, including an outdoor roller derby.
Art
Fringe by the Sea, North Berwick
Festival of the Sky (free, 6-8 September) is an inventive new arts event in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, taking place on the beach, the promenade and around town. The programme includes an immersive fire garden, a night-time hot air balloon show, kite festival, dance procession, street show with giant illuminated animals, an aerial performance from an “urban astronaut”, a Rajasthani brass band and circus, a cloud-watching storytelling event, and more.
Elsewhere, the Ventnor Fringe (from £3, 23-28 July) on the Isle of Wight is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a packed schedule of standup, live music, poetry and theatre; Fringe by the Sea (free and ticketed, 2-11 August) has 160 arty events around North Berwick on the East Lothian coast; and this year’s Arts by the Sea (mainly free, 27-29 September) festival in Bournemouth is themed around mental health.
Family
Dreamland, Margate
Dreamland amusement park in Margate, Kent, has a Roller Coast festival (mainly free, 19 July to 1 September) throughout the summer holidays. Each week has a different theme, from superheroes to science. During Carnival Week, visitors can learn to samba, make a mask and sing along to The Greatest Showman. Rainbow Week celebrates Pride, Street Fest has BMX stunts and Channel 5’s Milkshake takes over for the final week. The Margate Caves are also reopening this summer after a 15-year closure.
So Festival, Lincolnshire. Photograph: JMA Photography
In north Devon, the Sea Ilfracombe festival (free, 31 August-1 September) has traditional entertainment such a Punch & Judy, sandcastle competitions and treasure hunts, plus have-a-go sailing, paddleboarding and kayaking . The So festival (free, 30 August to 1 September) in Mablethorpe and Skegness, Lincolnshire, is a family-friendly outdoor arts event with circus, acrobatics, comedy and street theatre.
Nature
The White Cliffs Walking Festival, Kent
The Shetland Nature festival (free and ticketed events, until 14 July) is a series of guided walks, talks and days out, including a whale watch, otter-spotting, boat trips to see seabirds, bog walks and rockpooling. The White Cliffs Walking festival (mainly free, 22-28 August) has coastal and clifftop walks in Sandwich, Deal, Dover and the surrounding Kent countryside. Nature walks include a Sandwich Bay route to the marshes and bird observatory, coming back along the sand dunes and river. The Marine Conservation Society is recruiting volunteers for its annual Great British Beach Clean (20-23 September). Thousands of people will clear Britain’s sands of plastic pollution and other waste.
Food
Lymington Seafood Festival
The Nyetimber Dorset Seafood festival (free entry, 13-14 July) on Weymouth harbour has nearly 100 stalls serving fishy dishes such as popcorn cockles, hot pollack dogs, brown crab bhajis and cuttlefish croquettes. There are demonstrations by chefs including Mitch Tonks and Mark Hix, masterclasses on filleting, barbecuing and crab prep, a family show about sea turtles – and lots of English sparkling wine.
Later in the summer, the Lymington Seafood festival (free entry, 10-11 August) in Hampshire has live soul, jazz and blues. The Moveable Feast (£3, 13 July, Porthmadog, 27 July, Llandudno, 17 August, Benllech and 24 August, Amlwch) is a travelling food festival in north-west Wales with local producers, brewers and distillers, plus craft stalls and live music. In the Isles of Scilly, intrepid diners can attend a barbecue in the middle of the sea: twice a year, the tides recedes to reveal a sandbar between Tresco and Bryher, usually hidden under 20ft of water. This summer the Low Tide Event (free entry, 1 September) also features a gin bar, paella stand and rock’n’roll band.
Cinema
Luna Beach Cinema, Brighton
Big screens on the sands are a growing trend. This year, the Luna Beach Cinema is back in Brighton with recent releases (Bohemian Rhapsody, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), classics (Grease, Top Gun) and family favourites, such as Moana, and The Little Mermaid (from £12.50 adult, £8 child, 31 July-18 August). Two beaches in St Ives, Cornwall, have open-air cinemas this summer.
Porthmeor Beach’s programme includes The Greatest Showman and Mary Poppins Returns (£5, 12 and 31 July, 14 and 28 August), while Porthminster Beach has Castaway and Finding Nemo, among others (£9.95, 21 and 28 July, 4, 11, 18 and 25 August). Other options include the first Cinema on the Beach in Aldeburgh, Suffolk (9 and 10 August) and the Cinema by the Sea in Barry Island, Glamorgan (24 and 25 August).
Regattas
Whitby Regatta fireworks. Photograph: Colin Carter Photography
Many have heard of Cowes Week (10-17 August) but there are lots of lesser-know regattas around the UK that make a great day out. As well as the yachting races, Salcombe Regatta in Devon features a sandcastle competition, an ice-cream-eating contest, a harbour swim and a firework display (mainly free, 3-10 August). The Gara Rock hotel is hosting the closing party (£30, 10 August). The Whitby Regatta in North Yorkshire has yachting, rowing and rafting races, plus a greasy pole competition, circus workshops, a dog show and stargazing parties (mainly free, 10-12 August). The Cardigan Bay Regatta has sailing races every day, plus children’s competitions on day one, swimming and rowing contests on day two, and crabbing and raft-building on day three (mainly free, 22-24 August).
Maritime
Charlestown Harbour, Cornwall
Charlestown Harbour, the Unesco-listed Georgian harbour in Cornwall where Poldark is filmed, is holding its first Classic Sail festival this summer. Highlights include a “parade of sail” as tall ships enter the harbour, live music from the British folk band Mad Dog Mcrea and pirate-themed activities for children, plus the chance to visit one of Europe’s biggest shipwreck museums (mainly free, 30 August-1 September). The Great Yarmouth Maritime festival on South Quay has visiting ships to go aboard, three stages of folk musicians and sea shanty singers, street theatre and maritime skills demonstrations (mainly free, 7-8 September). Tarbert in Argyll and Bute holds 10 festivals a year, including a Traditional Boat festival, when vessels from Scotland and Ireland visit the harbour, including a two-masted gaff-rig cutter built in 1903 (mainly free, 20-21 July).
Music
Tunes on the Sands, Blackpool
There’s no need to jet off to Croatia to find a music festival on the beach – there are plenty in the UK. Tunes on the Sands (day tickets from £44, weekend tickets from £97, camping £45pp, 12-14 July) is a new festival on Blackpool Sands in Devon, a sister festival to May’s Tunes in the Dunes on Perranporth beach in Cornwall. The inaugural Sands lineup includes Wet Wet Wet, the Hoosiers and KT Tunstall; there is a big top with circus activities, a silent disco, a gin terrace, a cocktail bar and street food.
The Victorious festival (from £35/£110/£130, 23-25 August) in Portsmouth is right next to the beach and has a seaside stage – headliners are Two Door Cinema Club, Rudimental and New Order. Sand Fest (£50, 14 July) on Sandbanks beach in Poole, Dorset, features top DJs and live acts including Chase & Status.
Other sports
British Beach Sports Champs, Branksome Chine Beach, near Bournemouth
Britain’s beaches are hosting exciting spectator sports over the summer. There are more than 70 beach volleyball events around the UK, and elite players can be seen in action in the Grand Slam Series (free, 13-14 July, Bridlington; 27-28 July, Weymouth and 17-18 August, Bournemouth). Sand Polo, the British Beach Polo Championships, is at Sandbanks in Poole. Tickets include entry to the afterparties on the beach (from £30 one day/£55 two, 12 and 13 July).
The British Beach Sports Champs take place on Branksome Chine beach, near Bournemouth. As well as beach handball, now in its seventh year, the 2019 event includes beach netball for the first time (£10, 2-4 August). This year’s Beach Rugby Wales tournament in Swansea Bay will feature 54 teams from all over the UK. Welsh, Irish and New Zealand national players have appeared in previous tournaments (free, 3 August).

WAPA HURRICANE RESTORATION UPDATE: ELECTRIC SYSTEM + POTABLE WATER SYSTEM | U.S. Virgin Islands
Tumblr media
WAPA HURRICANE RESTORATION UPDATE: ELECTRIC SYSTEM
ELECTRIC SYSTEM
– WAPA’s reconstruction and restoration crews continue to make steady progress across the territory with service being restored to a growing number of customers each day.
– On St. John Tuesday, a portion of the primary circuit from Peter Bay to Cinnamon Bay was energized and crews continued work on Feeder 7E.
– On St. Croix, customers on Feeder 4A were restored along Five Corners as well as in the Little Princess and La Grande Princess areas, with crews building out primary circuits toward Sion Hill and Rattan. Customers were restored in Estate Ruby and Peppertree Terrace along with the Christiansted Bypass. Efforts will continue to repair and reinstall streetlights along the major highways of St. Croix. On Feeder 8B, poles are being framed and readied for primary circuit reconstruction while additional customers were energized in the Hannah’s Rest area.
– On St. Thomas, additional customers on Feeder 6A were restored, as well as customers in Anna’s Retreat on Feeder 7C and along Crown Mountain Road. Crews continued the reconstruction of primary circuits along Mahogany Run toward the Magens Bay road intersection, and on Feeder 7A in Estate Altona.
– On Wednesday, restoration work impacting traffic flow will take place in the following locations: on St. Croix, along Queen Street in Frederiksted, along Queen Mary Highway from west airport road toward the court, and near Five Corners. On St. Thomas work will slow traffic in the area of Louisehoj Castle toward Magens Bay road, along Weymouth Rhymer Highway, and from Mahogany Run toward the Magens Bay road intersection. On St. John, crews will continue to build primary circuits from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay with other crews working from Coral Bay toward Cruz Bay.
– WAPA advises residents that it is necessary to shut off standby generators when line crews are in your neighborhood restoring electrical service. A standby generator has the potential to back feed electricity to the grid which poses a severe safety risk to restoration crews.
– All electrical problems must be reported to the WAPA Emergency Call Centers to be properly documented and tracked. The Emergency Call Centers operate 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., seven days per week. St. Thomas – St. John: 340-774-1424 and St. Croix: 340-773-0150.
WAPA personnel has removed electrical meters at locations where damage was apparent to either an electrical meter base and/or weather head. Home and business owners are advised to make repairs to their damaged weather heads and/or meter bases as soon as possible. Once crews have reached your neighborhood, those customers who have not had their weather head or meter base repaired, will not have service immediately restored. Additionally, customers and electricians are reminded that it is against the law to remove or otherwise destroy meter seals. If work needs to be done to repair a damaged meter base and or weather head, contact WAPA’s Emergency Call Centers which operate seven days a week, 9 am – 5 pm.
POTABLE WATER SYSTEM
There are six days of emergency water storage on St. John, ten days on St. Thomas and seven days on St. Croix.
WAPA reminds the public that a precautionary boil water notice, for potable water customers, is in place for the District of St. Croix. Due to a drop in water pressure, as a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making infant formula or juices, making ice, brushing teeth, washing fruits or vegetables and washing dishes, be boiled. Bringing water to a rolling boil and maintaining for one full minute is sufficient. Water must be adequately cooled before it can be used and should be stored in clean, covered containers. As an alternative, bottled water certified for sale by the Department of Health may be used. The boil water notice for the St. Thomas-St. John district has been lifted.
WAPA urges clean-up contractors and homeowners in both districts to exercise caution when piling debris on and around potable water meters. There are a growing number of instances where water meters are being damaged by clean-up equipment grading debris and causing damage to the roadside water meters. The continued damage by heavy equipment poses difficulty in maintaining or restoring potable water service to customers. #usvi

A Cruise Ship is a luxury vessel that is used to take passengers on a pleasure voyage in a journey that is as much a part of the experience as the various destinations on the way. In contrast to an ocean liner that transports passengers from one point on the globe to the other often across the oceans, a cruise ship or a cruise liner as it is known by most, takes the people on board to a round trip that is of varied duration, from a single day to possibly a week and culminates at the originating port. This is a very refreshing mode of enjoyment and recreation, which relaxes the mind and replenishes energies to a great extent. The facilities on board these cruise liners include great dining services. Some liners offer open air dining on the deck, where as, there are others that have expensively designed dining halls with mouth watering recipes to leave a long lasting impression on the passengers. In addition to this there are casinos, fitness centers, spas, cinemas, and some ships even have a Broadway like theater. These cruise ships also boast of swimming pools, hot tubs, lounges, libraries, gyms and clubs. To put it in a nut shell, they pamper the passengers with the best of hospitality and services that can be imagined with some of the choicest natural views along the sea.
Various holiday board options All Inclusive (AI) This means all your meals and locally produced drinks - both soft and alcoholic - are included in the holiday price. Usually there is a cut-off time in the evening, which will vary depending on the hotel, but it usually 11pm or midnight.
All Inclusive is fantastic for families as there's no need to worry about all those little extras in-between meal times adding up. Ice creams and snacks are sometimes included too.
Full Board (FB) Full Board means that breakfast, lunch and evening meals are included in the price but any drinks or snacks outside of these meal times will cost you extra.
Half Board (HB) Breakfast and dinner are both included in the price, meaning that any food or drink outside of meal times will cost you extra. HB suits those who plan on venturing out during the day. Perhaps you want to book lots of daytime excursions to explore the local area or further afield?
Bed and Breakfast (B&B) For those who like to start the day with a good hearty breakfast but don't want to be fixed to certain prearranged times for the rest of their meals, B&B is a great option.
Self Catering (SC) Want to eat breakfast at midday? Do the kids eat dinner at 5pm but you prefer to wait until they are in bed? Self catering offers you the flexibility to come and go as you please and to set your own holiday timetable. No meals are included in the cost of a self catering holiday but you will be provided with basic kitchen facilities in your accommodation, such as a cooker, kettle and microwave. This board basis is also perfect for those who have a pickier appetite or miss their home comforts while away. It also suits those with a small budget as you can buy food at supermarkets cheaply and cook for yourselves.
