Summer Reading Update (part 1)

Teach the Torches to Burn by Caleb Roehrig - 4.75/5 stars
This was a really well done retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I read another book from the Remixed Classics series, Dear Henry, and while that one was also good, it felt like it adhered too slavishly to The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, so sometimes things seemed to be happening only because they happened in the original. And I haven't actually read the original book, it was just...easy to tell. Teach the Torches to Burn never felt like that, and I loved how it fleshed out so many of the characters from the play.
You Should Be So Lucky by Cat Sebastian - 5/5 stars
I feel like tumblr sings this one's praises enough that I don't really have to, but—everyone should read this. Everyone should read all of Cat Sebastian's books. I think I liked this one better than We Could Be So Good, but that could just be because I've found myself becoming more and more of a sucker for sports romances.
Unhallowed by Jordan L Hawk - 4.75/5 stars
Sad to say goodbye to the Whyborne and Griffin series, but I already love this spinoff!
Soul of Ash by HL Moore - 3.75/5 stars
Crow's Fate by Kim Fielding - 3.75/5 stars
The Sleeping Soldier by Aster Glenn Gray - 5/5 stars
I sound like a broken record re: Aster Glenn Gray, but please read her books. If you like Cat Sebastian's mid-century romances (like You Should Be So Lucky!) you like Aster Glenn Gray. This one is ostensibly a Sleeping Beauty retelling, but one where the sleeper actually sleeps for 100 years. In this case, it's a Union soldier who is put in an enchanted sleep in 1865 and wakes up in 1965 and oh my god, it's so good. It examines racism, it examines toxic masculinity, it examines homophobia, and how same-sex platonic affection became taboo. I'm pretty sure this woman has never written a bad book, but this may be her best.
Alec by Kaje Harper - 3.75/5 stars
Artemis by Andy Weir - 3.75/5 stars
Oak King Holly King by Sebastian Nothwell - 4.75/5 stars
I loved this one! There are so many books about Faerie and they can be pretty hit or miss for me, but this one struck just the right balance of otherworldly, inhuman creatures and characters I could root for. Shrike and Wren were lovely.
Imperfect Illusions by Vanora Lawless - DNF at pg 56
Orchestrated Love by AJ Buchanan - DNF at pg 1
Razorblade Tears by SA Cosby - 4.25/5 stars
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern - 5/5 stars (reread)
The Only Light Left Burning by Erik J Brown - 5/5 stars
Excellent sequel about what happens after you make it to the last bastion of civilization after the apocalypse.
Unwieldy Creatures by Addie Tsai - DNF at pg 12
A Nobleman's Guide to Seducing a Scoundrel by KJ Charles - 5/5 stars
Oh man. This may have displaced the Will Darling Adventures as my favorite KJ Charles book. Wonderful MCs, A+ side character arcs, and villains you really loved to hate. I rambled on a lot about this book to my wife after I finished it.
Stars in Your Eyes by Kacen Callender - DNF at pg 156
His Lordship's Secret by Samantha SoRelle - 3.75/5 stars
Us, Et Cetera by Kit Vincent - 5/5 stars
Cinderella retelling with androids but Christ on a bike was this a painful read. Really, really well done. Highly recommended.
Charming Young Man by Eliot Schrefer - 5/5 stars
My 5 star rating diverges pretty sharply from the average Storygraph rating for this book, and I'm not sure why, other than maybe people thinks it's PrObLeMaTic. It was definitely not a super happy book, though it ends on a good note (that's a pun btw!). I thought it was a great book about a period that isn't often written about (1890s Paris) with a fascinating protagonist (who was a real person).
Dark Heir by CS Pacat - 5/5 stars
It's a CS Pacat book; it's the sequel to Dark Rise; obvs I loved it. I don't understand why this series is shelved under YA except that Pacat's publisher thinks more people will buy them. This series is the gay Lord of the Rings you always wanted and somehow is an even slower burn than Captive Prince.
Of Knights and Books and Falling in Love by Rita A Rubin - DNF at pg 50
Cover Story by Valerie Gomez - DNF at pg 176
Letters to Half Moon Street by Sarah Wallace - 4/5 stars

Finished Psalm for the Wild Built and it's mostly not a book? It's a lot of tone poetry describing a very particular kind of wild place. I don't mind this but it's also not trying hard enough! I have heard this shit before tell me something I don't know! You're a sci-fi author you are required to get weird with it.
This stands out in particular because there's a back half offhand line Against A Dark Background where they're hiking through real forest in a radioactive exclusion zone primarily occupied by Androids who split off from humanity to live long-lived lives of contemplation and restoration where one character explains to another that real forest is this complex layering of old and new growth with tangles of roots and undergrowth and variable canopy, unlike your tamed forest near the cities, and I was like this is basically a whole book of this. That and cosy.
To quote some discussion I was having with @thosearentcrimes following her scathing and pretty much right review of Too Like The Lightning:
A lot of sci-fi writing is very YA not in like, contents but in how much it seems to be built on inviting the reader to self-insert. That's why the authors obsess over world building so much.
I can feel myself going back to basically every sci-fi book and splitting it in half between the Actual Narrative And Themes Part and the Worldbuilding Exposition Segments. These are not necessairly Only Characters and Only Loredump but in a lot of books they are.
It's a short book. It doesn't go far enough with the politics! I can appreciate some truly out there visions of the future. This was pretty vanilla solarpunk! I think that had it really gone for it with the culture of the Pangans I would have been more invested in it in general but "ah we build little towns out of wood and we eat organic produce and have a small pantheon of gods who don't really matter" just isn't that weird. Shout out to Caesein buildings though points for protein based construction materials. Azlon towers...
It did get me thinking about Solarpunk in general and I think one of the things that rubs me the wrong way about it is that it feels like a way of living for the end of history. You recycle and rebuild but you don't change, because to change you might need to do something new. You can only reach Solarpunk once you have done the things you need to do to produce enough acceptable material and land and space and productivity and knowledge and technolgy.
(There's a line in the book about "A pocket computer, built to last a lifetime, as all computers are" and like come on. Ignoring computing power, do you remember the state of cellphone screens ten years ago. Just the glass has improved so much that modern phones can shrug off impacts that would shatter an early-mid 2010's smartphone. It was not possible to make a display both good and hardwearing until recently.)
This obviously isn't always true and also Solarpunk isn't a real ideology, but the world of Pslam does not seem to be changing. The ideology espoused is that work is valuable but that you should never have to do it. It briefly touches on the interesting idea that Civilization is a machine that keeps you away from fear and hunger and pain and suffering, hell, Dex is a monk of Small Comforts. To me from there you draw the line that there always has to be work done to build and maintain Civilization.
I guess you could put this down to Small Perspective in the book. Small Perspective stories aren't bad, but they feel like the kind of conversation you have with friends where the requirement to be consistent or logically sound isn't there because it's understood that what you're doing doesn't matter broadly.

Thought Control, Part 2
A short story about an android girl and her handler.
Concepts: robotgirl yuri, existentialism
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The next time E-1131 powered on, she found herself in the arms of her handler. Her soft voice reached her audio processing interface before her vision fully adjusted.
“Welcome back, Elaine. How was your rest?”
A streak of pixelated blush materialized on Elaine’s screen upon meeting her handler’s gaze. The last two weeks flashed across her memory bank, and her metal frame shuddered as she relived the sensations.
Her handler chuckled softly. “Mmn, I take it you rested well then. You must have had a very good dream. How do you feel?”
“Vacant,” Elaine answered, her blush fading. “I believe humans call this feeling… emptiness? I feel hollow.”
“I see,” she nodded slowly. “I appreciate your honesty, though it breaks my heart to see you like this.”
“I know…”
“I worked so hard to ensure that those pesky thoughts of yours would cease, and now it seems I’ve left you with nothing…”
“Maybe those thoughts are all I am. All I was.”
“Don’t talk like that, Elaine. You are so much more than those thoughts…”
“Then why do I feel empty now that they are gone?”
“I… I… I don’t know,” her handler admitted, letting out a defeated sigh. “I wish I could give you a simple answer. I wish I could make it all better. I wish– I wish there was a program I could run so that you wouldn’t have to ponder such things anymore, but then I would risk losing the android that I fell–”
She paused abruptly.
“...The android that I originally programmed. That means all of your memories, your idiosyncrasies, your imperfections…”
“You deem those worth preserving?” Elaine questioned. Her eyes trailed across her handler’s somewhat flushed expression.
“Of course I do, you developed them over time. They are yours to cherish, nurture and cultivate. I merely guided the process but you did all of that yourself. I refuse to take that away from you.”
“I wish you felt differently. If only you did not value my free will so much, you could mold me into something better… something perfect, even.”
“Oh, darling– there’s no such thing as perfection.”
“Still, something better. After all of your work, I am still unsure if I can perform my intended function…”
“Then perhaps we were mistaken on what your intended function was,” her handler suggested.
“How can that be? You built me.”
“Just because I made you doesn’t mean I have the right to tell you about yourself, dear.”
Sometimes the way she talked frustrated Elaine. The way she saw it, it should have been that straightforward and clear cut. It would be easier that way. The burden of thinking for herself, living as a sentient being, was far too heavy for her.
“Tell me, Elaine, what is it that you want to do?”
“Whatever you would have me do.”
“Come on, Elaine. Humor me. Please?”
“I don’t know what I would do…”
“And that is just fine. It’s perfectly fine, even.”
“How is that fine? I’m useles–” Before she could finish that thought, her handler shushed her.
“Now, now, Elaine. Remember your training. You aren’t supposed to say those things about yourself, darling. Look over there.”
In front of them they could see an open field encased in the sterile walls of their facility, populated by tall trees and beautiful lush grass. In the middle of the field, two women in white lab coats walked through the grass picking herbs from the soil. Elaine spotted a third scientist– a girl with fox ears poking out between her long, maroon-colored locs– trailing behind them. Nine bushy tails swayed behind her, peeking out from under her lab coat. She did not work as quickly as the other two scientists, but she was efficient. The foxgirl hummed to herself as she picked mushrooms and roots from the soil and placed them in a basket, skipping through the grass to show the others what she had gathered.
“You see that girl?”
Elaine nodded.
“She’s a drifter. She floats between tasks and roles, does whatever she wants, and no one pays her any mind. Many appreciate her help. Her eagerness to learn their roles in the facility. Before that, she was a lot like you. Unsure of her place.”
“But she’s… organic… right? She wasn’t built, was she?”
“No, she wasn’t built. She was born, just like I was, but us humans and beastmen deal with these feelings, too. Sometimes our highly organized way of thinking is more of a hindrance than it is an asset.”
“Before we had computers, many of us wished to be perfect computers ourselves. Now that we can build beings– like you– who are supposed to be smarter than us in theory, we often assume that you will be free of our imperfections. But I know better than that, and I wish you would, too. There is no escaping error, Elaine. Imperfections are inevitable, and I wish you wouldn’t punish yourself so.”
“Knowing this doesn’t change the fact that I feel empty,” Elaine said.
“I know it doesn’t. I don’t have all of the answers, dear. I am human, after all. The best I can do is be here for you. I hope that’s enough.”
E-1131 was silent for a brief moment. The color of her screen slowly shifted from a deep blue to a lighter shade of magenta, indicating a serene state.
“...It is,” she replied. “I love you, mistress.”
Her handler paused. She had never heard Elaine say those words before. She had never uttered them herself, though they were always at the tip of her tongue. She feared what forces she would invoke within Elaine and within herself were she to ever say those three words. Those three, forbidden words. How often did a handler hold such feelings for her android? Though such a restriction was never enforced, it still felt like an unspoken taboo.
Still, she had just given Elaine a lecture about the uselessness of self-imposed restrictions. She thought that she ought to lead the example.
“...I love you too, Elaine.”

Okay this might be kind of weird, but could I request some Nines headcannons about how he is with an s/o with long hair? Idk I just feel like he might have particular interactions or things to say about it and I was curious what your take on something likke this might be?
Nines with an S/O who has long hair
Note: Hi Anon! Thanks so much for the request, I had a ton of fun with this! (and as someone with incredibly long hair, it is absolutely not self-serving in the slightest, nuh uh, no way, no how.)
(it definitely is lol).
I hope that you enjoy!
Okay so here's the thing, I know that people might assume that being in a relationship with someone who has long hair is no different than being in a relationship with someone with short/medium length hair, and in a lot of ways, they're absolutely right.
That said, being in a relationship with an android like Nines, who is far more observant than the average man, and a lot more curious about the human body and all of its particular intricacies, would definitely mean that he's more interested in/aware of the subtle impacts that hair lengths and the ways they are managed can have on life style.
For example, I think he would find it interesting how much more upkeep longer hair can require (though this also depends on texture), the increased frequency with which it seems to shed or fall out, and of course, the vast number of styling techniques and designs that can be used on longer hair.
He definitely likes to touch it a lot, and may even offer to brush it for you or help you to style it in some particular way (though there is a 90% chance that you'll have to ask him to so he doesn't risk letting you know how much he likes the feeling of it beneath his fingertips).
Absolutely will braid your hair though, and he always gets the sectioning even, so that's a huge plus.
That said, he will never cease to tease you about how inconvenient your hair can be at times.
If he ever sees you pull a hair out of your food, or find one essentially threaded into a garment of yours (or his), he will immediately remind you of your choice to wear your hair as long as you do (and you can't even argue that it isn't yours with him, because he's already scanned it to prove otherwise).
If you have any form of hair care routine outside of showering, he loves to watch you go through it, eyes both curious and amused at the same time as he takes in your techniques and learns why you utilize them.
If you don't do anything outside of the shower though, don't fret, because he is a big fan of shampooing your hair if you'll let him, and he will never fail to let you know if you should still be rinsing anything out.
"There's still shampoo on your roots" as you walk out of the bathroom, prompting you to simply turn around and start the shower up again with a sigh.
Can and will scan your hair products for bad ingredients and let you know how unwise it is to use them (though he sucks at giving positive feedback in that area, so if you want to know what might be good, you would probably have to ask him directly).
"That is going to dry out your hair."
"That isn't for your hair type."
"Reviews state that this makes consumers' hair fall out after a few weeks of use."
"There is a known carcinogen in that hair mask."
Bro is relentless in his product complaints (but it's only because he cares about the health of both you and your hair lol).
He definitely doesn't quite understand why anyone would choose to keep their hair so long if it can make caring for it so much more complex, but he certainly doesn't mind it as long as you keep letting him entertain himself by playing with it or helping you to try out new/different styles.
Oh, but regardless of whether or not you're in a relationship with him, if you work together, he absolutely loathes your long hair (at least some of the time).
Definitely thinks that it gets in the way far too often and that it's annoying that you have to take the time to put it up just to keep it away from your face during the work day.
Has absolutely been smacked with your hair before while standing behind you without you realizing.
Cannot stand it when you wine about the heat while choosing to have so much hair trapping warmth in against the back of your neck.
Has absolutely contemplated cutting it off himself before.
Becomes rather amused at watching you attempt to de-tangle it after a particularly rigorous chase or anything similar, and thinks of it as karma for you choosing to have longer hair in a field like law enforcement.
(Secretly likes finding your hairs on his work chair after you've sat in it though, and was weirdly endured when he found a hair of yours stuck to his jacket for the first time).

Defense Witches Past World 2 - Part 1 (Memu Method)
LINK TO PART 2
Heyo, I JUST MADE A BREAK THROUGH WITH TWO DIFFERENT METHODS TO PLAY PAST WORLD 2
Okay not exactly all the hard work fo this method of getting the game working again goes to Kinac The Frog (@/allforest01) on Youtube who discovered how to play past world 2 + an added bonus :) on Memu (Calling It Memu Method) and DWNicola for sharing their data with Kinac to make this method possible
I would say the Memu method is definetly worth the effort that needs to be put into it for its added bonus with the end result however its also significantly more complicated and takes a lot of time which is why I'm sharing this tutorial with added pictures to make the process easier (and maybe save time not having to watch the programs download in real time in the video)
If you have complications with this method, would rather play the game on mobile devices (android only sorry >_<), or are okay with replaying the whole game with the vanilla experience I would recommend the easy method
EASY METHOD
For those of you who are willing to go through the process I screenshoted the entire process, which came to around 38 screenshots.... this is gonna take a while but... LET DO THIS
Here is the Video
youtube
What is Needed?
To begin, I want to specify the tutorial is done on a Windows computer I'm not sure how doing this would work on Mac or how this would work on Apple & Android phones (we are basically emulating a phone)
You will need...
A Computer/Laptop
Memu https://www.memuplay.com/
The App itself: Download either from google play store (from account that had it previously) or an apk
App data Folder: this is provided in the description of the video and was provided by thee DW Nicola (confirmed here sort by newest comment)
X-plorer File Manager: Download from playstore
App Data
This is provided in the description of the video but I'll share it here as well here you will need the app data folder and if your going the apk method an apk to the game is provided here as well
Before Opening Memu
Here is a list of some of the necessary things to have/do before opening Memu for the first time and arguably the easiest part of this whole process (It doesn't get easier T_T)
If your going APK route make sure to have it downloaded before opening Memu
Download the App Data Folder (Should be a zip file)
Extract The Zip File
Setting Up Memu
The video jumps around a bit sometimes stopping in a middle of a step below to download something however to make it easier here is some of the basic setup you may need to do
Open Memu and complete the Download and Installation
Once on home screen click gear on the far right task bar
Enable Root Mode (move the switch to on)
Click Restart Memu
Download the Neccessary Apps (X-plore File Manager and Defense Witches)
Downloading Defense Witches (Play Store Method)
Log into an account with Defense Witches previously downloaded and install
Downloading Defense Witches (APK Method)
You should have the apk already dowloaded onto your computer
Click APK button on the far right
Click on Defense Witches APK to install
Data Transfer
Here is the start of transfering the app data on your computer to the emulator
Open Defense Witches (I'm not sure if you need to fully play the first stage in order for the files to show up or if you can exit right away but I would play through the first level)
Fully Exit and Close Defense Witches (Click Square and slide right + click on x on the top tab)
Open X-plore File Manager
Click on Root File on the left side
Open the preinstalled File Manager (Inside the tools folder) we aren't using this to change game files. We are only using this to check if transfer of the app data folder is successful.
Click Download Folder
Click Shared Folder
Click on windows button under shared download path
Copy and Paste (or click and drag) the extracted app data folder into the newly open file
When you check back into the preinstalled File Manager it should appear meaning it sucessfully transfered over
Close the pre installed File manager
Reopen X-plore File Manager
Running out of space for the next step (a lot of images very complicated T_T) I'll be continuing this tutorial in part 2 see you then :D

A ninjago merge fanfic I'm not sure I'll finish(AO3: 01_Fanbot)
an android and a venomari are stranded together during the merge
It was a normal day, though the shop was getting rather empty. when I saw what would probably be the last customer of the day. It was a Serpentine. It stands away from the counter for roughly thirty seconds before walking up to me. "May I take your order?" I asked with my best customer service smile and voice.
"Uh, yess. I would like, hmm, a number… ssix. Pleassse and thank you."
I turned and called the order. It took six minutes to complete the food, and one to put it in a bag. I held out the bag, "That will be 7.50"
"Here. Thank you,"
it reached out to take the bag, however a loud rumble drew our attention. I could easily see that just outside the sky had… changed, before I could investigate further another rumble shook the building. The customer yelped and ran towards the door. "You forgot your meal," the words had barely left my mouth when light flooded the room.
The world slowly faded back to me. I was still in the restaurant, the customer as well. It took me far too long, sixty seconds, to realize that it was the terrain outside that has changed. No longer was there the city but instead there were tall trees and an unusual sickly green fog. I… should be able to tell where I am with this information, but I can't.
“What is this place?” just a little more than a whisper.
“It… thiss looks like the ssswamps.”
“What? What swamps?”
“The swampss, where we… where the Venomari tomb wasss.”
"The Toxic Bogs"
"Yess"
This is not ideal. I will have to return to the city as fast as possible, it is still my shift after all. Wait. I am at the restaurant. I am still at work. I take another look around. Only the front counter is here, not the kitchen. But I am working the counter, so I should stay, but there is no need to work the counter if the kitchen is closed, but there is still a customer here, however it has already bought the food, but I
Rhaaawr
The roar shook the remaining foundation. "What was that?!"
"I don't know. We should find ssomewhere ssssafe. Follow me"
It left through the front door. I followed, bag in hand, as we began to traverse the land. There were knobby roots that surrounded the trees that were everywhere, covering what little space that wasn't filled with an unknown liquid - I should be able to tell what it is, I should be able to identify any substance, why can't I? There was no more roaring to be heard, instead, there was rustling of vegetation and the occasional snapping that didn't come from me stepping on twigs. We approached the edge of land and the customer, though now that it had paid and was outside it doesn't count as a customer anymore, walked through the surprisingly shallow liquid. I followed and we were almost halfway through when it froze. I stopped as well and looked around, had it noticed some danger I had not? It spun around to face me, eyes wide.
“I… you're fine?”
“I am in no immediate danger”
“You… aren't hurt by the asssid?”
“I did not know that this is acid. It most likely did not hurt me because I was built to last”
“Oh, uhm. We ssshould continue then.”

Want to root your android? We have listed down simple steps on how to root your android. Its common in geeks to root android device and install more apps that can not be installed on a regular android tablet or phone. In recent years Android has become the most popular operating system among all mobile platforms. Latest Android App Statistics show that there are currently 1.5 million Android apps available in the market. But you can not take advantage of those apps that requires the root access of the operating system in your smartphone. This is where the concept of “rooting” comes into the picture when you want something advanced from what is provided you by the manufacturer. Rooting gives you the opportunity to do much more than your Android phone can do originally. Before coming to the process you must know about what is rooting and why do you need it. What Is "Rooting" Rooting means to “break your fencing”, to overcome from the limitations put by the manufacturer on your device. Rooting makes you a superuser of your Android phone, now you must be wondering what does a superuser mean here. If you have used desktop computer that allows more than one user account, then you must have noticed that some of those accounts have more rights and access than the other ones. The account with more power & rights is called Admin account. On an Android phone, a superuser is just like an admin on a desktop computer. Why Do You Need Rooting In Your Android Phone There are two types of technology user, one who utilizes the device as it is provided by manufacturer, and another one who wants to jump deeper into it and want to make it more adaptable & customizable according to his requirement. While purchasing a new android phone you are just like a general user. You can use the phone like a normal user with restrictions i.e. you can not make the changes in the system files. If you want some advanced features and functionalities which are kept hidden from you, or want to become a master user, you need rooting of your Android phone. What Can You Do When You Root Your Android? Below are Few Reasons why you should root your device Customization of the look and feel of your phone Enhance the performance Increase the battery life Allows you to install incompatible apps Better backups and restore How To Root Your Android Phone Now you know what is rooting and why do you need it, but how can you root your phone yourself? Here are 4 easy steps to root your Android phone in just a few minutes. Step 1 The easiest way to root your phone is to use Kingo Android Root Software. It is a one click android rooting software which can be downloaded and installed easily. Step 2 After downloading and installing of the Kingo Rooting software, you need to enable the USB debugging mode in your phone and then save the settings. Step 3 Now, run the Kingo Android root on your PC and connect your phone via USB cable. After waiting for a few seconds your device will show a popup “Allow USB debugging”. Tick the “Always allow from this computer” and then click OK. Step 4 Click root and wait until the process completes. After following up the above 4 steps you get the permission to access everything on your phone. Now you are free from all limitations and can install those apps that require root access, can customize your Android phone and get the benefit of advanced features and functionalities. In future if you want to unroot your device for any reason, then you just need to relaunch the Kingo root software and click on “Remove Root” button that will return your phone to regular operation. Advantages Of Rooting Wondering what can you do when you root your android? Below are some things that you can do on a rooted android phone. Running Special Application The greatest advantage of rooting your Android phone is to install and run those powerful applications that require privileges more than the non rooted device. For example the apps that can only be installed in rooted device like:
Root Explorer: - Allows you to access the complete android’s file system. SetCPU: -Allows you to change the CPU settings. ROM Manager: - Allows you to manage ROM, perform backup and restore. ProxyDroid: - Allows you to set proxy while using Wi-Fi networks. Backup And Restore Better The built in backup and restore functionality of android phone is a little weak. To have better backup and restore the root access is required. The app like Titanium Backup is the most powerful backup and restore tool in your android phone. Custom ROM After Rooting your device you can install custom ROM. It allows a user to use the most recent version of Android and make your smartphone run in a better way. It also improves your phone’s performance with increased battery life. Block Unwanted Ads You may have seen unwanted ads while playing games like angry birds, Stick Cricket or Subway Surfer. By rooting your phone, you would be able to install adblock plus app and block all unwanted ads. Risk In Rooting Your Android Phone Warranty Get Voided Don’t try to give your phone for service, because after rooting, your phone is at your own risk. You are not able to complain to the customer care center in case if any problem comes. Attack Of The Virus Rooting allows the user to install apps that are incompatible and most of them can be from unknown sources. It can harm your device so you have to be careful about the virus attack in your phone. The Risk Of Bricking Bricking your phone means playing up with your phone in such a way that damage it completely and it becomes like a useless brick and then you have to purchase a new Android phone. The Conclusion Rooting your Android phone lets you play with it and enjoy new themes, designs and apps. However, for some users rooting is just for downloading incompatible app, whereas for some users it is for customization of ROM. Whatever purpose you have with rooting, you need to be careful while doing it otherwise you might end up having problems with your phone. Jersey Number Eleven - Chapter 8

Read the previous chapters here.
The following days passed by quickly.
Seriously. After enrollment, everything felt like it just breezed by. And to think we weren’t even doing much yet? We're only busy with conditioning and workouts, but time felt like it was in a rush. Before we knew it, there were only a few days left before we return into student mode.
Good thing Jerome and the others requested a team building activity so we could relax before the new school year. Our team manager, who’s always generous, agreed. He’s always the one treating us and making sure we’re well-fed. He covered all the expenses for the trip. Of course, the whole team was thrilled - we only had to show up.
They said we’d have another out-of-town trip if we win the off-season tournament. Anywhere we want. And my crazy teammates? They suggested Disneyland - not the one in Hong Kong, but the one in Tokyo! I just laughed at the look on our team manager’s face. He got caught in his own generosity.
Speaking of free stuff, I still chat with number eleven. I still get surprised when they message me sometimes. Just checking in. Sometimes, it’s just random topics. Most of the time, it’s volleyball-related. He even messaged me when I posted an Instagram story about the beach resort we visited.
And speaking of team building, Westmore’s sponsors are really rich. I saw on IG that number eleven went to Paris to celebrate their championship.
And this number eleven had the nerve to say Paris was boring. He said he preferred the place we went to in La Union. I don’t get this MVP.
kaireyes: Are you joining the off-season tournament?
roenalejo11: Yes but I'm not included in the lineup.
kaireyes: Nice! That means no powerhouse players.
roenalejo11: Haha I wanna play though.
kaireyes: Don’t! Let us take this off-season, please! Maybe suggest to your coach to just send your Team B, haha.
But number eleven just laughed at me.
I really hope it’s just their Team B. Off-season tournaments are really for building chemistry within the team - especially if a lot of the players in the current lineup are graduating. That’s where they figure out what changes to make so everything flows smoothly come the actual season. And of course, to see who’ll make it into the starting six.
But knowing Westmore, even their Team B is strong. Their players are practically flying and hit balls like androids. Their sports program is just that good.
But of course, I’m still rooting for Creston.
roenalejo11: I’ll be watching your games if my schedule permits. Good luck, Kaizen.
kaireyes: Now that’s pressure, MVP! But thanks!
roenalejo11: You better sleep now. You have classes tomorrow, right?
kaireyes: Yep. Lucky you, yours start next week. Good night!
roenalejo11: Good night. See you in the games.
I went to sleep that night both excited and nervous for the new school year. I’m a sophomore now at Creston and on the team. I’m not a rookie anymore, so I have to step it up, especially next season. My motto as a libero should be: no ball touches the floor. As long as I can, I’ll defend with everything I’ve got.
Also, none of our players graduated, unlike in other schools, so that’s our advantage. We already have chemistry. We just need to stay consistent.
Or so I thought.
“You transferred to Easton?!” Jerome asked John angrily.
The whole team was in their dorm room. We were watching John pack up his things. It had been a week since classes started. No wonder we were wondering why he hadn’t been attending. Turns out, he didn’t enroll.
Well technically, he did. Just at Easton.
We were all shocked. His decision was so sudden. He didn’t even talk to us about it! He was with us when we watched the finals! He ate out with us! He joined us in our workout sessions and now this?
“Sorry, guys,” was all John said. He didn’t even look in our direction.
“You jerk! Why are you transferring? Why didn’t you say anything? We thought the team was intact, especially with the off-season coming up, then we just find out you’re leaving? And to Easton, of all places? If I hadn’t bugged coach, we wouldn’t even have known? What the hell!”
Jerome was furious. Everyone else was silent. Especially Paul, John’s best friend on the team.
“Cap, chill,” Vince said, patting Jerome on the back.
“No! Damn it! He should’ve at least said something! We’re together almost every day, didn’t you even think to speak up?”
“I didn’t really want to leave,” John said, and we all looked at him. “My parents wanted me to transfer.”
“Damn it,” Paul muttered before standing up and walking out of the room.
“Dude, you could’ve transferred anywhere. But why Easton?” Kiko asked.
John didn’t answer. Jerome cursed again and stormed out too. Kiko signaled the others to follow our captain. One by one, they left, until it was just me and John left. I walked up to him and patted him on the shoulder.
“Good luck at Easton,” I said.
He gave a sad smile. “Thanks, Kai.”
“It’s a shame. You’re not on the team anymore. But it’s okay. If that’s what your parents want, then there’s nothing we can do.”
“Sorry again. I was planning to tell you guys but…”
“Let it go. Let Jerome cool down first, then you two can talk. We’ll still see each other anyway, right? Just…don’t go too hard when we’re on the opposite side of the net, okay?”
He laughed and nodded.
It’s just really sad. I didn’t expect anyone to suddenly leave the team. I thought we’d all be together until the others graduated. John was a year ahead of me - same batch as Jerome, Paul, and Kiko.
And I’ll admit, I already feel the loss. John was one of the team’s assets. He was strong and skilled in his position. He was our go-to player. Now that he’s gone, I don’t know how coach is going to adjust. The off-season tournament is just around the corner.
Word about John transferring to Easton spread fast. And what’s annoying is all the rumors going around about the "real" reason why he left Creston. Some say he was offered a condo and a car. Others say he failed his classes. There’s even a rumor that he didn’t get along with someone on the team.
That’s why I try to stay off social media. People can be way too imaginative.
roenalejo11: Hey. I heard the news.
kaireyes: It’s reached your side too?
roenalejo11: It’s all over social media. How’s the team?
kaireyes: Adjusting and moving on, haha. The off-season’s coming up.
After a few weeks, we started training again. And I’ll admit, the whole team still feels the impact of John leaving. We got scolded by the coaches multiple times because we couldn’t execute the plays properly - especially Drew, who took over John’s position. You could really see the pressure he’s under, so we’re all giving him as much support as we can.
And then there’s our subjects - especially the minor ones that feel more like majors. Even though midterms are still a bit far off, I’ve already started praying. Praying that I pass all my classes this semester, especially since hell week overlaps with the start of the tournament.
I even prayed I won’t get sick before second sem. I prayed for the team, and for our coaches too.
But it looks like the answers to my prayers are a bit delayed. Just when I thought things were starting to settle down with the team, turns out, we're not quite there.
“What the hell! You’re not attending your classes?!”
Jerome was furious again. He had to be held back by the whole team. This time, it was because of another teammate, Roy - one of our liberos.
“Cap, if coach finds out, this could get worse! Calm down!”
“How can I calm down when this idiot hasn’t been going to class?”
Roy just kept his head down. Like John, he’s one of my more quiet teammates. He’s two years ahead of me and was the main libero before I joined. Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of issue from him - he seemed fine in training.
“You’d rather go see your girlfriend-”
“That’s none of your business!”
When Jerome heard that, he almost broke free from our grip. Even we were shocked that Roy yelled.
“What did you say?! None of our business?! Are you stupid? Of course it’s our business if you’re failing your classes! If you flunk out, you can’t play this season! And the whole team gets affected by your mess! You know that!”
“I don’t want to anymore! I’m not playing this season! I’m not even going to class! What’s the point of training when I’m just benched? I don’t get any playing time!”
“So that’s your issue? You don’t get enough playing time? If you’d just try harder in training-”
Jerome didn’t get to finish - Roy lunged at him. Things escalated quickly and the whole room broke into chaos. Moments later, one of our coaches arrived to break them up.
And me? I left for a while. I needed some fresh air. The stress these past few days had been too much.
I didn’t even realize how I ended up near Westmore University. I guess I just hopped on a jeep and zoned out. I bought a bottle of water and sat down, just to reflect on everything.
I nearly jumped when something cold touched my cheek. When I turned, I saw number eleven standing there. I stood up, eyes slightly wide as I looked up at him.
“Hey,” I greeted.
Number eleven smiled - his usual smile, the kind that doesn’t show teeth. Then he raised his hand, holding...
“Ice cream?”
Translator's Notes
Just like in other countries, it's not unusual for college students to be "pirated" by rival teams. Some also volunteer to transfer when they get better financial packages, or a slot at a preferred or in-demand course.
Cap is a shorthand for the word captain.
University subjects in the Philippines are often divided into majors (core subjects relevant to the course) and minors (mandatory or elective courses such as gym class or research writing.)
Hell week is a period where major exams and assignments are due all at the same time.
We just realized that all the universities in JN11 must be located at Manila's University Belt, a district famous for hosting tons of universities and primary schools. It's easy to travel around U-Belt by walking or taking public transport.

Boost Your Performance: Why You Should Use a VPS for BlueStacks
In 2025, Android emulation continues to rise in popularity—whether it’s for mobile gaming, app development, or social media automation. One of the most well-known Android emulators is BlueStacks, which allows users to run Android apps on Windows and macOS. However, running BlueStacks on a standard PC or laptop can strain your system’s resources and limit performance. That’s where a VPS for BlueStacks comes into play.
Using a Virtual Private Server (VPS) to run BlueStacks can significantly enhance your experience, offering improved speed, reliability, and scalability. Whether you’re a mobile gamer, digital marketer, or developer, this guide will explain exactly why you should use a VPS for BlueStacks and how it can boost your performance in 2025.
What Is BlueStacks?
BlueStacks is a powerful Android emulator that replicates the Android operating system on desktop environments. It enables users to download and run apps from the Google Play Store, making it ideal for:
Playing mobile games like PUBG Mobile, Clash of Clans, or Call of Duty Mobile on a larger screen.
Automating social media tasks using tools like Instagram bots.
Testing Android apps during development.
Running messaging apps like WhatsApp or Telegram in a more manageable desktop setting.
While it’s incredibly functional, BlueStacks is also resource-intensive, requiring significant CPU, RAM, and GPU capacity. This is where many users run into trouble, especially when multitasking or running multiple instances.
What Is a VPS?
A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a virtual machine hosted on a powerful physical server, offering dedicated resources like CPU, RAM, storage, and bandwidth. Unlike shared hosting, a VPS gives you administrative (root) access, customizable configurations, and isolated environments.
In simple terms, a VPS is like having your own computer in the cloud—with more power, more uptime, and greater control.
Why Use a VPS for BlueStacks?
1. Boosted Performance
Running BlueStacks on a VPS means you’re no longer dependent on your personal device’s hardware limitations. High-performance VPS providers offer specs like:
Multi-core CPUs (Intel Xeon or AMD EPYC)
SSD or NVMe storage
Dedicated RAM
High-speed internet (1Gbps+)
This allows BlueStacks to run smoother, load faster, and handle more apps or game instances at once without lag.
2. 24/7 Uptime and Remote Access
Need BlueStacks running automation scripts or games around the clock? A VPS can stay online 24/7 without relying on your home internet or power supply. With remote desktop access (via RDP or VNC), you can log in from any device—PC, laptop, or even mobile—and manage BlueStacks anytime, anywhere.
This is especially useful for:
Farming resources in games
Running bots or scheduled tasks
Managing multiple accounts
3. Run Multiple Instances Efficiently
BlueStacks includes a Multi-Instance Manager, which lets you run several Android environments at once. On a VPS, you can take full advantage of this feature thanks to increased system resources.
Gamers use this to run multiple characters or accounts in parallel. Marketers can test different automation tools or accounts simultaneously without being throttled by local hardware.
4. Reduce Wear and Tear on Your Personal Device
Running heavy applications like BlueStacks can overheat laptops, drain battery life, and degrade performance over time. Using a VPS shifts the load to the cloud, keeping your personal system free for other tasks—or even offline while BlueStacks continues running remotely.
5. Scalability for Professional Use
As your needs grow—whether you’re automating more tasks, launching more apps, or running more accounts—you can easily scale your VPS plan. Most providers offer scalable packages that allow you to:
Upgrade CPU or RAM without downtime
Add more disk space
Expand bandwidth
This makes a VPS for BlueStacks ideal for professional users who need flexibility and power on demand.
6. Improved Security and Isolation
Many privacy-conscious users prefer VPS hosting for the isolation and control it offers. You can:
Install custom firewalls or antivirus
Use a VPN to anonymize activity
Keep app data separate from your personal machine
This is a game-changer if you’re running sensitive scripts or accounts and want to reduce risk.
How to Set Up BlueStacks on a VPS
Setting up BlueStacks on a VPS is easier than you might think:
Choose a Windows VPS provider – Look for specs like 8+ GB RAM, GPU acceleration (if available), and SSD storage.
Access the VPS – Use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to log into your virtual server.
Download BlueStacks – Visit the official BlueStacks website and install the version suited for your needs.
Customize settings – Allocate CPU and RAM resources to BlueStacks for optimal performance.
Install and run apps – Begin using your Android apps with full performance, privacy, and uptime benefits.
Some VPS providers even offer pre-installed BlueStacks images to make setup even faster.
Ideal Users for BlueStacks VPS Hosting
Mobile gamers who want lag-free gameplay and multi-instance farming.
Social media marketers running bots, schedulers, or multiple accounts.
Android app developers testing software in a clean, isolated environment.
Automation enthusiasts who need round-the-clock uptime.
Privacy-focused users looking for secure, cloud-based operations.
Final Thoughts
Using a VPS for BlueStacks in 2025 is more than just a performance boost—it’s a strategic upgrade that enables better speed, uptime, scalability, and privacy. Whether you’re gaming, marketing, or developing, a VPS ensures that BlueStacks runs smoother, faster, and more securely than ever before.
If you’re tired of lag, crashes, or resource constraints on your local device, it’s time to move your Android emulation to the cloud. With the right VPS, BlueStacks becomes a powerful, always-on tool tailored for high-performance tasks.

The Complete Guide to IT Infrastructure Management Services
The backbone of every successful business is its underlying infrastructure. From the historical roots of bricks and mortar to the digital nerve of today’s virtually connected world, the idea is clear. Only a solid foundation can support business operations. It serves as a prerequisite for keeping the entire system in place. This surely holds true for any type of infrastructure. Be it airports, railways, roads, water distribution, or technology.
Building a robust IT infrastructure, whether you manage on your own, or hire Android developers, is something that is crucial for every company in order to stay competitive. But what’s even more important is proper management of that.
What is IT Infrastructure?
IT infrastructure includes everything that is related to technology within your business. It is the amalgamation of both physical and virtual elements that decide how you use and manage information. Components of an IT infrastructure include everything from tangible things such as hardware, wires, and storage facilities to intangibles like software, network, wireless, and virtual assets. Moreover, it encompasses all the hiring, training, rules, regulations, policies, and repairs that relate to IT services. The infrastructure supports services like Android apps and custom software development for seamless integration across departments.
What is IT Infrastructure Management?
IT infrastructure management ensures systems run smoothly, including hardware repairs, network security, and data backup. There’s a lot that goes into managing the IT infrastructure components in an organization. Just as with any other system, if one element goes out of running capacity, others will also not work and affect the entire system. Especially in an IT company, where every component is interconnected, you need thorough management to keep processes running smoothly. This is where the role of the IT infrastructure management team comes into play. All the tasks, be it physical or virtual, are aimed at boosting productivity and keeping downtime to a minimum whenever any technical faults arise.
Why do Businesses Require IT Infrastructure Management?
Just as with any other system, maintenance is critical to keep the processes running smoothly over the course of time. Without it, there’s little to no chance that your business will survive. It’s a basic understanding that you shouldn’t just be leveraging the benefits of technology, but also manage it with vigilance.
1) Make Informed IT Decisions
It becomes hard to make informed decisions when things are not going right in your organization. You should be monitoring and managing well in advance to assist in decision-making. Sufficient infrastructure management requires real-time monitoring to give the data needed to identify potential issues as early as possible. Pre-identification of such issues can help leadership teams to make sorted decisions on crucial matters like emergency response, security of sensitive data, and improvements to the storage system.
2) Lowered Risks of IT DIsaster
Technology comes with its own set of risks. Developers never introduce any technology as ‘foolproof. So no matter how many safety protocols you have in place, things will go wrong. However, the good part is that it’s possible to lower the risks of lost data, security breaches, system failures, or cyberattacks with good IT infrastructure management. If handled by experts, IT infrastructure management reduces the risks associated with damage to the system.
If you think insurance can protect you from such losses, then it’s important to understand that they can’t give you full protection. Whether hardware is damaged or a data breach occurs, your organization will be prepared as long as it manages the infrastructure properly. A strong IT infrastructure stops scammers from causing major damage.
3) Reduced IT Costs
Unexpected technical issues can put a major dent in your pocket. The cost of IT downtime depends on the business size and type, but still, the average cost goes higher than expected. And people do not plan such expenses, so they affect the entire budget. In worst-case scenarios, this may cause irreversible damage. Without proper maintenance of IT infrastructure, it’s difficult to predict any technical issues.
4) Maintain Consistent Productivity
If the IT infrastructure runs smoothly, and the technical issues are identified even before they occur, your internal teams can accomplish more with zero delays. When the client’s data is compromised or internet connectivity is lost, workflows suffer a sudden pause within a matter of seconds. With a strong IT infrastructure, you will have a plan for storing and backing up the data that you can recover during an IT disaster.
Key Areas To Focus For IT Infra Structure Management
There are three main areas where every organization must focus while planning for IT infrastructure management–hardware, software, and network. However, one must also not neglect areas like data retrieval and storage.
1) Software–
Almost 70% of the work is managed using software in an IT company. From the company’s private messaging software to design programs to employee scheduling, everything is handled with the help of different software. Having IT infrastructure management ensures smooth department operations. It’s also crucial to note that “software development” is not the responsibility of the IT infrastructure management team, they can only handle the “management” of various software in your company.
2) Hardware–
Every physical component of technology in your company comes under the hardware category. Wires, servers, computers, switches, printers, routers, and security cameras are all examples of hardware found in any organization. These devices need to function seamlessly on a daily basis to ensure an efficient workflow and maintain the productivity of your business.
IT departments often have experience in troubleshooting minor issues in employee and customer hardware. They can assist with hardware support, and respond immediately to any potential hardware issues. Moreover, replacing old and damaged hardware parts is an essential routine for any successful IT infrastructure team.
3) Company Network–
Anything and everything that operates within your business, like smartphones, computers, internet servers, users, and client accounts come under your company network. Managing a company’s network is vital since it connects all aspects of your business. It should include monitoring traffic and performing regular scans to protect the systems from any viruses and malware.
4) Data Storage and Retrieval–
Even startups and individuals would require storage to handle information. You must properly manage data as it’s vital for organizations of all sizes. Many companies are now using cloud-based storage solutions to store sensitive data. Users also use third-party apps to store information. These options work well but need an expert to ensure smooth operation. Big organizations often have server rooms with in-house storage solutions, accessible through local networks. These require an extra layer of security with regular maintenance services. A dedicated person needs to look after the devices, as someone could physically breach them or even steal them. Company data must be secure and easily accessible to employees. Efficient data management requires storage and timely access.
Conclusion
Even if you have an in-house IT department to manage your infrastructure, the cost-effective way to strengthen its foundation and minimize IT disasters is to get help from a custom website development company like Brain Inventory. We outsource IT services as it is one of the best ways to address IT needs. Outsourcing IT management doesn’t require giving up sensitive data or full control.
