#Wilfsunn and Bloewyda
mimble-sparklepudding · 2 months
Note
19. Is there a couple who your OC views as having a particularly healthy or admirable relationship? Would they hope to emulate this kind of relationship?
Humble is very respectful of Wilfsunn and Bloewyda, and thinks their relationship is much to be admired, by virtue of its enduring affection and mutual support. He also thinks they must have been very good parents to Moenbryda, since she, in his view, turned out so well.
Humble found Moenbryda very inspiring as a role model, as she briskly disabused him of the belief that wielding an axe was incompatible with a lively and enquiring mind. Her death impacted him enormously and he valued the chance, albeit falteringly, to share his memories of Moenbryda with her parents.
Humble is of the view that any relationship that lasts so long, and produced such an accomplished daughter, is one he would very much consider worth emulating.

I have now found one place Urianger's family is mentioned, Encyclopedia Eorzea vol. 3, and only because the fandom wiki references it:
When he was young, Urianger's parents were deeply engrossed in their research into the occult, leaving Urianger often unattended. His neighbor, Bloewyda Uwilsyngwyn, couldn't bear the sight of the young child being alone, and so offered to raise him in his parents' stead. Urianger's parents thanked Boewyda profusely before leaving for parts unknown, and so it was that Urianger was welcomed into the family of Bloewyda, her husband Wilfsunn, and their daughter Moenbryda.
(Quote is from the wiki, not the book, and it might be a paraphrase, but that's what I've got at the moment.)
And Jesus Christ, this is just... heartbreaking to me. You would think that a pair of scholars would be thrilled to raise a kid like Urianger and share their knowledge with him and encourage him in his own education. The fact that vol. 1 references Moenbryda as helping him enter the Studium always needled me because like? Knowing who Urianger is today and extrapolating backwards, I would have needed exactly zero explanation for why and how he entered the Studium and became an archon. If there's any character who doesn't require an explanation for that, it's Urianger! "Scholar" is his entire character concept. You could tell us he was born an archon and we'd probably half believe it. So Moenbryda being mentioned in that way always seemed Significant, for that reason and for the unspoken question, Where were his parents in this? Did they not care about their kid's education? Like I was on the verge of concluding that his parents were gleaners or laborers or otherwise not scholars themselves, and that's why they were so absent from his life.
But nope. They were apparently just so wrapped up in their own research that they functionally abandoned him with the neighbors. "...before leaving for parts unknown." The fuck. I wonder if he even knows where they are, or if they're completely estranged at this point. I wonder if he's ever angry at them, or if he's just so deeply internalized the idea that there was always something legitimately more important than him and his happiness... which he has maybe carried into his adult worldview in a big way. I can't imagine this not having massive implications for why his self-image is... the way it is. Certainly he had love and care in his childhood thanks to Moenbryda's family, but still... you don't forget something like that.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier.” for the prompt list please!
"Darling, are you saying your birth parents still alive?" Rowan asked.
"Pray forgive my neglect, my love... as far as I can recall they have yet to leave this mortal coil..." Urianger took to rubbing her hand soothingly. "None hath come to me to tell of their demise."
Bloewyda scowled. "They may as well have died the day they left Sharlyan for all the good they've done for you..."
"Do we need to get so dark on such a happy day?" Wilfsunn asked. "Aren't weddings supposed to be a happy time? We've joined families together, we need not speak of those who abandoned theirs."
Alfinne smiled and patted Rowan's other hand. "Mayhap you'll meet them one day in your travels and show them their folly."
Rowan sighed. Once, it would have bothered her. But even as she sighed, others were chiming in. Alisaie promising her blade, Thancred and Estinien exchanging glances. Tataru had pulled out a ledger and was speaking to Y'shtola.
She leaned into Urianger and whispered in his ear. "I think we have plenty of family without them, love."
He kissed her temple and they watched the chaos that unfolded at the dinner table.
Thanks for the prompt!

Mayhem Moondrop
WoL/OC tag meme! thanks @anneapocalypse for the tag!
Tagging in turn: @elizabethrobertajones, @tinygamertris, @gachabastard, @thesingingscorpio, @vitaecryptid, and @grahatiasravetower just in case you see this in a few months when you remember to log in again
(Choose whichever WoL/OC you want, do it more than once, ignore me entirely. what am I, a cop?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
B A S I C S
Name: Mayhem Moondrop
Nicknames: Mayhem is already a stage name and doesn't really need abbreviating. They will respond readily to whatever non-obscene epithets you choose to bestow, though.
Age: mid to late 20s at this point? 23 at the start of ARR
Nameday: 18th sun of the 4th astral moon
Race: Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te
Gender: No (agender)
Sexuality: Yes (pansexual and polyamorous)
Profession: Bard (actor, folklorist, and historian all in one word, what more do you need?)
P H Y S I C A L     A S P E C T S
Hair: Black, currently worn short but growing it back out - they had to cut most of it off after nearly losing an ear at the edge of the universe.
Eyes: Silver - Moon Keeper eyes are slightly reflective
Skin: Grey
Tattoos/scars: I don't mod aside from reshade so until they give us a fashion accessory, you'll just have to imagine an Archon mark on their right cheek post-Endwalker. They have relatively few scars - the most prominent is along their scalp, mostly covered by the hair that's still growing back in from when it was left.
F A M I L Y
Parents: Their mother was a poacher-turned-bandit in the Black Shroud; she was killed by Wood Wailers when Mayhem was barely old enough to say their own name, and they don't remember anything about her, or the gang she traveled with. Father unknown, and considering how Keeper culture works, was likely never expected to participate in parenthood beyond the siring of a child anyway.
Siblings: Due to how Moon Keeper naming conventions work, Mayhem is aware based on their original name that they were not their mother's first "son". No siblings have ever come forward to be associated, and they've never been interested enough to go looking.
Grandparents: Under the circumstances, good luck. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Emotionally they sort of consider Jehantel to be their grandfather, although it's not something they've ever discussed outright.
In-laws and other: No in-laws, although Count Edmont would be perfectly willing to consider himself for the role even though they were never married to Haurchefant; Mayhem is polite but keeps their distance a little bit because they don't want to explain to him their opinion on the Fortemps family dramas. Post-Endwalker the adult Scions are involved in a polycule which technically would add Wilfsunn and Bloewyda (as Urianger's adoptive parents) to the potential in-law list (excellent) but might also add Matoya (terrifying), so we're just not going there. As far as other blood relatives, in theory Mayhem could go back to the Shroud and find their mother's clan in hopes of reaching out to find some, but they're not interested in participating in traditional Keeper culture (which is highly gendered), and none of those people came looking for them when they were getting raised in Gridania, so they don't feel like there's much point.
Pets: None; they're not really an animal person
S K I L L S
Abilities: They've always been good with a bow, which was how they got their start as a wagon guard for some traveling performers, and gradually invited to participate in performances as their interest became clear. Over time, they've started to learn a few other fighting styles: red mage for when they want to take center stage rather than play narrator, astrologian for when the path of the story needs a little help to get on the right track, and most recently warrior so that they can pick up where someone else left off. They trained a little with firearms when they were in Ishgard, since Stephanivien had access to the best practice shooting range that would actually welcome outsiders, but ultimately they prefer archery.
Hobbies: Reading, writing, crafting, performing. For all that their formal education was pretty basic and perfunctory, Mayhem is a deeply curious person and loves to learn, and to share the knowledge they've gained in turn. They have a knack for understanding how to connect to an audience and meet them where they're at in order to draw them into a story or an explanation. While they were with the performers they also learned to make and repair costumes, and have kept up the practice enough that they're now a fairly accomplished weaver. Naturally, as a bard, they also sing and dance, and relish the chance to get back up on the stage from time to time to put on a proper show.
T R A I T S
Most positive trait: I would say their curiosity. The drive to learn and keep learning, to never assume they know everything, has kept them humble and compassionate throughout their journey.
Most negative trait: Avoidance and deflection. They love learning about other people but they rarely talk about themself, and especially early in their journey they took a very long time to bond with others in a way that would actually make them want to stick around. It wasn't until near the end of Heavensward that "run away and change your name and try to never look back" stopped being an option in the back of their mind.
L I K E S
Colors: They usually default to green for clothing choices, but they really love vivid colors in general, especially in intricate patterns. Thavnair was a delight.
Smells: Subtle, natural smells, mostly - flowers on the breeze, the forest after a rain
Textures: Soft and fuzzy, squishy and comfortable. They like the subtle roughness of old paper, too.
Drinks: Usually favors cool and sweet and fruity. Still has a melancholy weakness for hot chocolate.
O T H E R    D E T A I L S
Smokes: Nah, too much risk of messing with their voice
Drinks: Enthusiastically at social gatherings. Has been carried to bed more than once.
Drugs: Doesn't seek them out but is willing to partake if offered.
Mount Issuance: Their Grand Company mount has lived a pampered courier's life at the Rising Stones ever since the Scions moved in, and has most recently been transferred into Tataru's possession. Mischief, the black chocobo they consider their primary mount and companion, was a gift from Haurchefant, and is technically a little too big for them because Ishgard breeds chocobos meant for Elezen and Hyuran riders. They love her anyway.
Been Arrested: They've always managed to talk themselves out of trouble, aside from MSQ incidents.

Prompt #12: Miss the Boat
Tumblr media
“Urianger!”
He turned and smiled at the familiar voice, but his expression faltered at the absolute storm in Moenbryda’s face as she caught up.
“Is it true?” She demanded without preamble, hands clenched at her sides.
“Thou shall have to be more specific—”
“Are you going to Eorzea with Master Louisoix?”
He glanced around, but their path in Journey’s End was surprisingly, blessedly, free from random passersby. Still, he kept his voice low. “Our master hath given unto me a task, one which I intend to carry out to the best of mine abilities.”
“Of course you will, you brilliant fool,” she growled. “I just…I don’t understand…”
“Understand what, pray tell? If there is confusion as to my role compared to thine own, then—”
“That’s the thing, Urianger, I don’t have a role!” She nearly wailed.
His mouth went dry and his palms clammy. “What dost thou mean? Surely…”
She shook her head. “He…he told me I must stay here, to continue my studies into aetherology. And I thought…I was all right because you and I could still study but then…Why you but not me?”
“I…do not presume to know our mentor’s mind on the matter.”
“We’ve always been a team, we do our best work in collaboration! Or…so I thought. Your studies do align more with his, that’s why you apprenticed to him.”
“While our master hath granted me greater access than I would otherwise be allowed to the secrets of prophecies, such doth not preclude the work thou and I have done.”
She thought for a long moment, enough to make him worry; Moen taking too long to think eventually became a plan, if not a plot or even an outright scheme. And like as not, he would get roped into it, as what else could he do?
“Will you speak to him for me?” She finally asked, quieter than before. Almost timid, though he discarded that notion instantly; “timid” was not a word for Moenbryda. “Just ask him why I must stay, while you remain at his side.”
“I shall, at the most opportune moment.”
She smiled, though in a way that told him he hadn’t said exactly what she wanted to hear. But she knew how busy they all were, and catching Master Louisoix in a good time and temper for such queries would be difficult. She knew he could not promise more than that.
“Thank you, Urianger,” she said, with all her warmth regardless. She did understand him.
Over the next few days, Urianger truly did try to live up to that promise, but there never seemed to be quite the time. Not until he was standing at the ship rail waving to Moen and her parents, noting how she held her face carefully to hide her true feelings.
“Precisely because you both have spent so long as one another’s shadow,” their master said, when finally asked in the cramped quarters of the ship, with nowhere to go and naught to do but read. “You, I believe, already understand yourself, your convictions and your place in the world, and have accepted such. Moenbryda…she must find her own path, not simply follow mine, nor cling to that which you trod.”
Urianger frowned. “Didst thou tell her this?”
Louisoix shook his head. “She must find the answer herself. With her keen mind and iron will, I’ve no doubt she shall, once we are no longer underfoot to distract her.”
Urianger nodded, though could not shake that unsettled feeling, nor the memory of Moen’s face as they had pulled away from the dock.
In the silence of the Waking Sands, Urianger completed his work and leaned back in his chair to contemplate it.
The mammet was nearly perfect, from its long silvery hair to its thunderous brow to the hue of its pale skin and tiny Sage Marks. His dear Moenbryda, cast in detailed miniature.
Urianger’s eyes slid to the parchment at the other end of the table, the unfinished letter upon it accusing in its shaky script.
He ought to return to Sharlayan, even briefly. Wilfsunn and Bloewyda deserved to hear it from him. But the letter was difficult enough; facing them, with the truth so heavy in his heart…
‘I should have told her.’
The thought continued to cycle incessantly through his mind, as it had since that dreadful day. It seemed an eternity ago, yet not even a sennight had yet passed.
There were so many things he should have said. About Louisoix, and how Urianger had both agreed and disagreed. About their work, their mission.
About his own feelings.
The memory of her face that day in Journey’s End came to mind; her fury and her grief. Her misplaced hope in him.
The mammet’s perfect visage blurred, his eyes stinging. He covered his face with his hands and wept for her, and for himself, and all the opportunities he had failed to take with her, to give her.

Fuck it I get to ramble about one of my WoLs again it’s my blog. I present Landrenel my Sharlayan Elezen sage feat. EW spoilers!
I think about Landrenel and the twins so often. He was there when they were born, though he didn’t stay to see them grow up. He left very soon after, when Fourchenault began to change. Landrenel couldn’t stand it, and he decided to take on some research far from Sharlayan in order to get his head together, at the urging of Ameliance. One mission turned to two, two turned to three, and one time he simply… did not return.
The next time he saw the twins was during the remembrance ceremonies, though he did not realize it was them at the time and thought it mere coincidence that another set of siblings shared their names. It was only when he heard their last name spoken aloud that he realized it was truly them, and he swore to himself that he would protect them. No matter what it took.
The twins, on the other hand, did not realize it so quickly. Landrenel didn’t say anything to them, as he wasn’t sure if they even knew of his existence… and if they did, he feared what their opinion may be. It is something he regrets. Alisaie was the first to figure it out, drawing conclusions from his reaction to seeing Louisoux in the Coils of Bahamut raids, though she didn’t say anything until post-Heavensward when she was poisoned by Renda-Rae’s arrow. She calls out for her Uncle Lan when she sees him… which is how Alphinaud puts it together.
After a long talk where Landrenel explains nearly everything to the twins, including why he was so afraid to tell them who he was, things slowly begin to change. They begin to treat each other more like family - it already feels like they are, from the stories the twins had heard growing up and Landrenel’s past with their parents and grandfather. After Fourchenault’s speech in Gridania he even offers them his surname, should they wish to have it.
When they get to Sharlayan, and it really sinks in for Landrenel that the twins don’t have a home to go back to, not with Fourchenault acting the way he is… he wants to offer them a place in his. Except… he doesn’t have one either. His adoptive parents are no longer in the city, he does not even know if they are dead or alive, and his biological parents are still deep in Labyrinthos. The two men he once called his mentors and family were dead, and the Isle of Baldesion where he spent his years after graduating the Studium was gone. Not even Wilfsunn and Bloewyda are there, though Landrenel has the same sort of trepidation as Urianger on that front. The Leveilleur Esate, his last residence before he left the island, was likely even less of a home to him than the twins. The three of them are adrift in the city they once called home, with only each other and the other Scions. But as long as they had each other, that’s all they really needed.

How are Moenbryda's parents towards their effectively-daughter-in-law? Do they help with baby?
The way I see it is that right after the scene as it is presented in MSQ, Urianger turned to Bloewyda and Wilfsunn and was like "this is Tiona, and I've married her" and before he could even finish the sentence Tiona was getting Roegadyn bear hugs and plans for her coming over for dinner once everything was over were made. Tiona did a lot of her post-6.0 recovery at their place; the Annex was too busy but she needed to be within spitting distance of the sages who were dutifully performing healing rituals to put her back together. When Alsault was born, Tiona was far away from Sharlayan, most likely in the Thavnairian countryside. That being said, they were among the first to be told about the biological improbability that she and Urianger managed to create, and while they haven't needed to avail themselves of passing Alsault off to his Acting Grandparents yet, they are there waiting and ready, and there are plenty of visits.

Selryna’s biggest regret/ fear? Happiest memory? Take your pic
Her biggest regret... I think her greatest regret and greatest fear are very similar.
She wasn't strong enough to save Haurchefant back in Heavensward, and for a very long time, she blamed herself for his passing.
Her biggest fear is (which she has experienced on more than one occasion) is losing those she cares about most/ not being strong enough to protect them.
She suffers from recurring night terrors-she relives the visions of all of her friends vanishing before her eyes, G'raha leaving her, again and again, the death of Haurchefant, and of course the events of In From The Cold, which will probably haunt her for a long time to come.
Her Happiest memory: I think currently, her happiest memory would have to be either: Waking up G'raha after coming back from the first and reuniting with him for real, OR Urianger telling her he loves her for the first time on the moon, which led to an "accidental" proposal from him when he introduced her to Wilfsunn and Bloewyda!

Text
Wilfsunn: In anticipation of the day man might journey to the stars, we developed these.
Bloewyda: Portable teleportation devices. One for each of you, designed to work in tandem.
Bloewyda: Press the button on one, and in a matter of moments all eight will activate and send their owners back to the Ragnarok.
Bloewyda: There is no telling what hazards you may encounter. If you find yourselves separated or lost, please do not hesitate to use them.
Raha if you misuse this I swear to the Twelve -
