DC FanDome: Schedule, Date, Time, and How to Watch
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Fans hoping for major DC news in lieu of an actual San Diego Comic-Con are definitely going to get just that at DC FanDome, a digital event designed to be watched at home like a real con.
Originally set up as one epic night of panels and reveals, DC announced that it will be splitting FanDome into two separate and distinct events: Hall of Heroes, which will be held in late August, and WatchVerse in mid-September.
The August date still holds most of the big-ticket items. It’s billed by DC as “an epic world designed personally by Jim Lee featuring special programming, panels and exclusive reveals from a wide variety of films, TV series, games, comics and more.” Functionally, it’s the Hall H of FanDome.
This DC FanDome trailer gives fans a good glimpse at what they can expect from the event:
Here’s everything else you need to know about DC FanDome:
DC FanDome Date and Time
The first DC FanDome event, Hall of Heroes, kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 22 at 1 pm ET. Sign up to watch here!

Shondaland has always seemed like a beacon of what Hollywood could be. It’s ruled over by titular queen Shonda Rhimes and her tireless right hand woman, executive producer Betsy Beers. It's given us Grey’s Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder, and the late, great Scandal and promises to explore everything from Anna Delvey’s infamous scammer tale to the apocalypse story we all deserve through Rhimes’ new partnership with Netflix.
Well, Shondaland took the next step in its evolution as one of entertainment’s leading matriarchies on Tuesday, September 25. “It’s incredible that we have three women directing three different episodes today,” Grey's showrunner and executive producer Krista Vernoff, who is one of those directors, told Refinery29 in between filming. “Two of us are women of color, one of us is a first-time director, all three of us were given our opportunity to direct for the first time at Grey’s Anatomy.”
On top of the three women simultaneously directing their respective episodes of the ABC series' already historic upcoming 15th season — the milestone marks the ABC series as the longest-running primetime medical drama in TV history — three women wrote the episode scripts that those directors were shooting. When those three installments wrap, two out of their three editors with also be women.
After chatting with the three women who helmed these start-of-season episodes, you realize how monumental this day was for television — and just how excited we should all be for Grey’s season 15, which premieres on Thursday, September 27.
While Vernoff, a first-time director, said the sheer level of women power on Tuesday was “incredible” as the team shot episodes 5, 6, and 7, it's even more important to realize the filming day wasn't a planned stunt. This is simply how the scheduled panned out.
“We certainly didn’t set out to design things this way,” Vernoff told Refinery29 during a filming break. “It just that we have a lot of women working on this show in very powerful positions. At any given time, the vast majority of the creatives, particularly in the senior positions, are women.”
Vernoff wasn’t kidding as she later rattled off the many women leading the ranks at Grey’s. All of the women who helmed episodes on Tuesday — Vernoff, star Chandra Wilson, and longtime crew member Nicole Rubio — were “birthed” as directors by the ABC staple, as producing director and legend Debbie Allen said. Everyone from the series’ unit production manager (Amy Schmidt) to the script supervisor (Lindsay Cohen) and line producer (Sara White) is a woman. Vernoff used her showrunning “power” to hire four entry-level, diverse women writers upon her season 14 return, only adding Shondaland's long bench of women scribes. Longtime Grey’s writer Elisabeth Finch penned Vernoff’s directorial debut, which will be the seventh episode of season 15.
Vernoff promises her soon-to-arrive installment will be the “darkest” of the first seven episodes of season 15 and, like the other two episodes shot on Tuesday, will premiere somewhere in late October or early November. “It’s brooding and it’s emotional,” the EP-showrunner teased, “It focuses on Richard and his journey this season.” Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) will be tackling his history of substance abuse, which will lead him into some “dangerous” territory, according to Vernoff, who chose to direct this specific installment for her directorial coming out party.
Star Chandra Wilson, who wrapped helming episode 5 on Tuesday, is tackling some much lighter fare. “The name of my episode is ‘Everyday Angel,’” Miranda Bailey’s portrayer explained. “So I get to explore good things that happen to people. I’m the calm before the storm.”
While Wilson couldn’t spill much more about her relaxing episode, she did reveal exactly why having the kind of matriarchal environment that’s flourishing on the Grey’s Anatomy set is so vital. The actress-director announced her pregnancy towards the end of season 1, the first series regular to do so. “I specifically remember talking to Shonda and saying goodbye because I thought that my job was over. She said, ‘What are you talking about? Of course we’re going to figure this out,’” Wilson recalled. And, the team did figure it out; by season 2, Bailey ended up announcing her own pregnancy.
“I didn’t know that was possible, that you could start a job and have something natural happen, and that’s okay,” Wilson continued. That is the power of Shondaland. Now, Wilson declared, “I don’t know any other way than this.”
Fellow director Nicole Rubio, who was on set as a script supervisor when Grey’s reshot the pilot over a decade ago and has remained in the series’ orbit since, has similarly had her Hollywood perspective forever altered by her time on the medical series. The episode 6 helmer directed her first Grey’s installment in 2013, and has gone on to shoot for Madam Secretary, The Resident, and four other Shondaland shows.
“I would go on some shows and Black women would come up to me and say, ‘I’ve been doing this a long time — I have never had a Black woman direct me,’” Rubio, who learned to direct by shadowing Wilson, recalled. “They’re like, ‘It just doesn’t happen. It doesn’t happen.’” Rubio, however, is proof that it does happen now, which is a far cry from what the actress-director noticed at the very beginning of her ABC series. Back then, before Shonda Rhimes was one of the most powerful forces in entertainment, “It was a majority of men directing,” Rubio explained.
While the multi-hyphenate was fairly secretive about her episode, Rubio could confirm she had spent her morning shooting with Justin Chambers and Camilla Luddington, who play newlyweds Alex Karev and Jo Wilson(-Karev?). “They are hysterical,” Rubio said with a laugh. “They were so cute together. They are happy to be here, happy to be married.”
Although Rubio be might excited for viewers to see Alex and Jo together, producing director Debbie Allen, who directed season 15 premiere “With a Wonder and a Wild Desire,” has a few tidbits to share about leading lady Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) romantic future. “I can only say we’re picking up right where we left off last season,” Allen teased, reminding us how many nuptials went down in the season 14 finale. “It’s the next day after the weddings. There’s a lot of fallout going on around that hospital. With Teddy (Kim Raver) coming back; oh my God, she’s having a baby. And what’s going on with Meredith? She had that innocent kiss in the finale.”
Now, previews suggest, Meredith will be doing more than just kissing her “All Of Me” smooching partner, Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).
Speaking of Meredith’s portrayer, Allen has a response to the rumor Ellen Pompeo is leaving Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital come 2020. “Girl, I have no idea. Shonda Rhimes says it best. She’s written the end of this show three times. But we can’t get to the end because the show is so strong and our fanbase just seems to expand and explode every year,” Allen explained.
“So 2020, honey? I have no idea. That’s a rumor. That’s all I can tell you.”

Including a scene in Shazam! #1 that seems to be a response to a particular scene in Spider-Man: Homecoming, picture of Legion of Super-Heroes ring and blood floating in space around Mars and a creepy picture of Doctor Manhattan Nudist Smurf vaporizing Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, Phantom Stranger, Shazam, Mon-El, Robin, Raven and Stargirl with a wave of his hand (likely both are covers)
.But now to the panel:
Johns loves writing Hawk & Dove for Titans show.
Titans is about the evolution of characters and that they will show Robin evolve into Nightwing on the show because everyone wants a live-action Nightwing.
We will see Starfire and Beast Boy come to embrace more superheroics costumes.
Johns is more far-reaching on Titans but has a more hands-on approach to Stargirl since Stars and Stripes was his first comics. He says that in creating Stargirl he wanted to make a character that embodies hope and the positive spirit of DCU. The show will adapt the comics but also add new material.
There will be a lot of JSA characters in Stargirl and the tone is comparable to Karate Kid or Back to the Future, it’s about passing the torch to the next generation.
Casting Stargirl was fun because she is both adorable and can kick ass.
Johns on the explosion of superhero shows and movies: "As a comic fan, we live in a wonderful world where the characters that we love and we've loved forever and we're going to share them with everyone else. My whole career has been taking characters like Captain Cold and convincing people that they're cool. For me, everything we're doing here is all about connectivity. We're all desperate to connect to people and not be alone."
After they cast Joivan Wade as Cyborg for Doom Patrol, Ryan Potter, who plays Beast Boy on Titans, wanted to hang out with him because Cyborg and Beast Boy are friends in the comics.
"It shows you how important these characters are to people...The journey of [these characters] is the human part of these characters that we love." - Johns
"The world ofShazam is more of a family movie.. it's about family. You don't get a ton of that yet in the trailers of course but the movie is all about Billy Batson finding his family." - Johns about Shazam movie.
The movie takes from Johns’ and Gary Frank’s Shazam comics, which hs a sequel with art by Dale Eaglesham coming in November. We will see a retelling of Billy’s origin and also get into his kind of magic and what his powers can actually do. It will explore the lighter side of magic, “like if Roald Dahl was writing a superhero book”.
Marvel Family will play a role and so will Dr. Shivana and Mr. Mind.
Three Jokers supposedly reflect the original Joker, 60′s Joker and Brian Bolland’s Joker. The book will have three main characters - Bruce, Barbara, and Jason.

Reflecting on 2017
Tumblr media
Oh 2017. What a hard, hard year. A post-election haze seemed to hang over the whole year. I struggled and frequently failed at figuring out how to use my voice and my social media presence in this current political climate. It’s something I’m still grappling with, in fact. Elsewhere, I settled into the apartment I moved into at the tail-end of 2016 only to discover a whole bunch of problems with said apartment. That eventually meant a (hellish) move into a (thankfully, much better) new apartment. An older member of my family passed away, I had a creepy experience with an eye doctor, and I had some scary personal medical stuff to deal with for the first time in my adult life.  All in all, however, I would say I came away from those experiences with a better sense of how much I can handle as well as a reminder that it’s okay to ask for help when you need it.
In terms of good things that happened this year: I attended the Women’s March in Chicago in January and participated in the Women’s Strike in March. I road tripped to a cabin in rural Illinois with my friends, saw a live taping of Pop Culture Happy Hour, witnessed a (very cloudy) solar eclipse, welcomed my sister back from a year in France, and got to see a whole bunch of wonderful people who came to visit Chicago throughout the year (as well as a whole bunch of wonderful people who live here all the time). I spent most of February and July in St. Louis with my parents and extended family, where I did my first ever Escape The Room, attended an anti-Trump protest, and showed off my town’s adorable Fourth Of July festivities to one of my good friends. I also directed a one act play (in just 12 hours!) and served as emcee for a jam-packed viewing party of the Star Trek: Discovery premiere. Oh and I turned 28 and didn’t even freak out about it (as least not too much). I also had an anti-Trump tweet go insanely viral and I still haven’t decided if that was a good or bad thing.
Tumblr media
In terms of career stuff, I had my usual assortment of random gigs and side projects throughout the year, including a cool new job as a script reader. But most of my writing was centered at The A.V. Club. And there were some big changes there for me. In 2017 I wrote my final What’s On Tonight, my final Great Job, Internet! and my final Newswire. Though it was a little scary to end gigs I’d been doing since I was an intern back in 2013, I was also able to take on more TV reviewing opportunities, which was really exciting. Another exciting aspect of 2017 was deciding to launch both a Patreon and a Kofi account to make it easier for people to support my work. I’ve been both honored by and grateful for the people who’ve decided to invest in my career in such a tangible way.
With that, I’ll leave you with wishes for a Happy New Year and a roundup of all the writing I did in 2017:
LONG-FORM PIECES
Stranger Things 2 keeps its “strong female characters” apart from one another, like every Hollywood genre property

Stella Carrier Script Stories Law of Attraction Edition Script 37 and Memoirs of My Future Higher Self In A Heaven Afterlife Part Twelve
Stella Carrier Script Stories Law of Attraction Edition Script 37 and Memoirs of My Future Higher Self In A Heaven Afterlife Part Twelve
I preface by making it clear that I am definitely not telling anybody how to live, Rather I am doing this for my own writing passions and spiritual creativity/spiritual evolution, as a healthy and constructive spiritual and creative art therapy outlet for the various dreams and desires that I discovered can be channeled into artistic writing therapy. Additionally, I am following both my intuition and logic in doing what I consider this activity to be fun/exciting as I have a strong instinctive feeling that this activity ties into my destiny andor life purpose in various ways that I may only fully understand after my current lifetime. Last but not least, this activity actually helps boost my spirits and allows me to practice my creativity and writing dreams in all areas of my life for both present and future.
Start time of beginning both script stories and future higher self; by somewhere between 146 am
Completion time of the scripts and future higher self memoir by  214 am
Stella Carrier Script Stories Law of Attraction Edition Script 37
December 1, 2017
The time period is now December 1, 2017. I Stella Carrier have over 1500 dollars after taxes saved in my Bank of America and Sun Trusty accounts. I Stella Carrier have also succeeded in paying at least the minimum on my student loans and I have wisely also used some of my money to help my husband with some of the necessities such as with electric, gas, groceries. Etc. Additionally, both my husband Rusty Ridler and I Stella Carrier have done this even with doing one date night every one or two weeks.
Both my husband Rusty Ridler and I Stella Carrier are also achieving massive success at our current University of Maryland College Park jobs. Both my husband Rusty Ridler and I Stella Carrier work different jobs at the same company but fortunately both several customers and several coworkers are happy with our services. My weight loss goals are going better than planned towards my ideal goal of 137 pounds by this timeframe.
Memoirs of My Future Higher Self In A Heaven Afterlife Part Twelve
November 8, 2107
Dear 36 year old Stella Carrier living on earth during your current incarnation. As your future higher self from this time period, I as your future higher self want you to use one of the law of attraction processes from one of your books as part of your next communication with me. I am getting ready to go to a music festival/party hybrid that I was invited to in a celestial realm that is less than what you would consider 13 miles in your time from my mansion in the celestial version of Virginia.  However before I go I was asked by one of your mothers in a past lifetime less than 3 hundred years ago to tell you to communicate with me every other day and on the other days to a script set by December and and another in the future. There is going to be repetition on multiple days yet it is for reasons you are going to understand within the next 11 years or less. For instance, today you just wrote to me and did a December 2017 script and the next day do a December 2017 script and something dated from January 2020 or later.
One thing you did right was walk 7 miles after work as your future higher self I am reminding you why you must continue to put your weight loss goals at the forefront full understanding of reasons by 2025 or less
A sleeptime vision you are going to have by January 1, 2018 or sooner
You are going to have a dream of what it looks to be as you are now but in a 137 pound body. Another sleeptime dream less than 72 hours later has you remembering a scene where you talked to someone today asking you about where you work as it connects to something your higher self is trying to get your attention about as it relates to part of your life purpose and there is a scene of 9 brightly colored castles in this dream.
Resources
Affirmations
I mark a new beginning in the book of my life and wisely use the free time I have been giving to rest and tune even deeper into various aspects of my life-spiritual, athletic goals such as walking more, balancing my writing time with some online courses I have enrolled in etc.
I am in the process of becoming more cool,level-headed, and wise when it comes to how I conduct myself around my current work colleagues and future coworkers as I am now logically and intuitively aware that some of them may follow me to where I may reside within 7 years from now or less regardless if I am a private sector andor a government/military worker/employee.
I am well provided for. I live in an abundant universe.

As with some of her other articles I know that Liz Ryan just wants to help employees so I see the good intent even with the article. I would not dare judge another man or woman who quits without short notice because there are a myriad of reasons why someone would do so on short notice. However, speaking from experience I have quit on short notice before but would avoid doing so again for multiple reasons and here are a few reasons why at least speaking for myself only; I seen an article written last year by someone who implied that an employer should not hire someone who has quit on short notice before implying that a person is likely to do that again and I felt that it unintentionally overlooked that many people are wise enough to realize that there is a limit on quitting on short notice which brings me to my next point; Sometimes a person quitting has more to do with wanting to go back to what they are familiar with andor seeing the good in a place that they left with abundance notice. It was easy for me to come back to my current employer as the working conditions were reasonable from when I last remembered them to be the last time I was there. I was pleasantly surprised that I gained more free time with my current position than expected which brings me to one more point of this well intended article; With my current employer I would give at least a 2 to 3 week notice because of how fair my supervisors are even when they have to be strict plus I have enough time off from work even on some weeks that I have worked 6 days out of the week because of the  working hours that are tailored in a way to where it is easy to plan stuff  during the week. Additionally, it has also came into my awareness that a person must also take into account that giving abundant notice of at least 2-3 weeks whenever possible is a good idea because there is always a chance that a former coworker, supervisor or higher etc. may eventually follow you to your new job andor new place of residence if you relocate (yes I know it’s a small world cliché). Once again, I understand that Liz Ryan is only aiming to help with her article. It is just that it is obvious to even a woman like me that a person must be careful and selective about how often they quit without giving notice. Regardless of the outcome, I intend to always give at least 2-3 weeks notice when quitting from now regardless of the outcome as courtesy. The only reason why I say 2 to 3 weeks but avoid longer than that is because you want to really make sure that you are actually ready to quit before you say you do as I know that an employer has discretion if they will allow you to work those last 2 to 3 weeks. Plus I know that it may be considered commonsense yet even I know that a person would be best served  making sure that they are only ready to quit if they are ready to go to a job where the supervisors andor managers may not be as friendly. Even I know that sometimes having friendly andor fair managers andor supervisors are not guaranteed at a new workplace even if the new job is higher paying. Even if things go differently than planned I have the resourcefulness, determined intent, creativity, and resilience to create new doors and plans even when certain plans go differently than expected.

Wonder Woman ’77 Meets The Bionic Woman #2 Written by Andy Mangels Art by Judit Tondora Colors by Roland Pilcz Letters by Lois Buhalis & Tom Orzechowski Edited by Matt Idelson
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment /DC Comics
[amazon_link asins=’B01M2BSJHZ,B01LZP9J9A,B01N0P4V3E,B01N64DFY9,1524103721′ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’Ryan Gaumer’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’4fdb41d9-ec65-11e6-b0b2-bfc5db8c9bc2′]
When the first issue of a series is as good as Wonder Woman ’77 Meets The Bionic Woman, putting out a second issue that matches it would seem to be a difficult if not impossible task. For those who have not read it yet you can read my review of that stellar first issue here.
While a first issue has to immediately grab the reader’s attention and introduce the basics of character, setting, tone and plot, the second issue has to add some amount of depth of character, complication of plot and continue any narrative momentum in order to maintain those initial readers. The second issue might be the hardest thing to write in comics. Lets see if the creative team of Andy Mangles and Judit Tondora have done it.
After a jaw dropping character death at the end of the first issue we find Diana Prince and Jaime Sommers “sitting shiva” with the mourning widow of the deceased. A somber yet eloquent start that goes a long way to show you that while this comic is fun and action packed it also has a heart and soul and is not afraid to slow down and let moments of humanity and emotion take over. This opening also gives us an opposite opening in tone and pace to issue #1 and feels like a narrative counter point showing a different side to our main characters.
Adding to the gravitas in this sequence is when Diana in her secret identity makes her exit and re-enters the house now as Wonder Woman, this time dressed in a more traditional outfit respectful of the setting. Diana recites the traditional words of comfort to the mourning (Prishah 393:3) in Hebrew. A gesture of great respect and compassion. It is a moment of cultural inclusiveness that befits the archetypal aspects of Wonder Woman and Mangels’ use of it here shows a tasteful writer of conscience at work.
From there we move into several scenes that show a growing bond between Jamie and Diana. As well as the introduction of a fantastic new-ish villain. Without giving too much away, this character is new “ish” because they are a combination of someone from the seventies tv canon and a character from Wonder Woman’s comic history. And that synthesis works perfectly. Elaboration on the espionage side of the plot also shows an increasing complexity from the first issue. This comic seems determined to give the reader everything.
By far my favorite scene in the entire book has Jamie and Diana talking before embarking in the invisible plane. It’s a warm and funny exchange between two equals that pokes fun not only at Wonder Woman canon but in some aspects of the seventies (“Smaller than I expected”). I am still impressed that Mangels’s winks to the audience never undermine the story or concepts and seem to come from a place of love as opposed to cynicism or superiority which is usually the hallmarks in modern satire.
All of which leads us into a classic action scene, the revelation of a Legion of Doom type group composed of villains from both the Wonder Woman and Bionic Woman shows and one great cliffhanger.
Judit Tondora’s art, which I quite liked in the first issue, seems to have taken a quantum leap forward. I even checked to see if it was the same artist. All of Tondora’s strengths have only gotten stronger; superb characterization through facial expressions, fun and dynamic body gesture. Tondora’s previously weaker elements now show great improvement; panel layout is more elegant and streamlined, background and incidental detail is more noticeable. My only issue is that sometimes the inking is a bit heavy-handed. I would prefer to see more of Murphy Anderson approach and less of a Chester Gould approach. But I tend to think that every time I see big and bold ink lines, so maybe that’s just me.
Is Wonder Woman ’77 Meets The Bionic Woman #2 as good as issue #1? Considering what this issue has to do mechanically I think it’s unfair to judge one against the other. I do think, however, that it is one of the best second issues in a series I have read in a long time and the evolution of this creative team is something to watch out for.
