ive been replaying kh1 (going thru the whole series on steam since i never got the chance to play all the games) and i was struck by something a bit odd. i have been dyinggg to talk about it
it's about kairi and her past.
i don't think she's a replica or construct necessarily
but in kh2 there's a parallel drawn between her and sally in halloween town; and the same i think could be true in kh1.
sally is a Frankenstein monster/doll made by the doctor. the entire plot of Halloween town centers around the need for the dr to make a "heart" which requires memories from Sally (the scene of her picking the forget me nots looks a lot like kairi holding a flower for aqua too)
sora takes interest in the project to restore a heart to the heartless too because of his desire to restore Kairi's heart.
i havent really come up with a coherent thought about what this means.
but given that we know kairi was experimented on in a way that involved her heart, it just seems suspicious that this parallel was made twice to her and a doll that was stitched together and animated by a mad scientist.
shes also compared to chirithy in kh3, which from my understanding were created by MoM for keyblade weilders; and to Pooh, who is a toy/story book character that came to life
given too that Kairi already has a weird thing going on with her heart, it just seems possible that theres something..more to it that i have yet to piece together. and its driving me crazy
NO, WAIT… ANON YOU’RE COOKING. Idk what it all means either, but those parallels are so good and so true. Cause there definitely is something artificial about Kairi’s heart, even if just partially. It was experimented on, like you said, and it looks completely different than the organic hearts we see, and I suspect that’s why we’ve never seen Kairi’s heart station. Because it’s (at least partially) artificial. It would look totally different than all the other heart stations and would probably give away what’s going on.

Kingdom hearts really made a character and said “hi this is naminé, she’s a sweet little girl in a bad situation and basically she’s made out of… she’s what would happen if you had kairi’s heart in sora’s body” and then they LATER came back and said “actually she’s not made of kairi anymore, she’s her own person. She has her own heart. But like. In riku’s body. In a body made to look identical to riku” and it is so funny to me that no one noticed she was transgender because they were too busy crying over kingdom hearts lore. Anyway go namine ,,, trans rights

i think an underrated part of the sea salt trio's dynamic in days is that axel chooses inaction when faced with the inevitability of losing either roxas or xion. he takes on a sort of attitude that if things are going to go south, he might as well try to pretend it isn't and try to make the most of what little time they have left. but by saying (and doing) nothing about the situation (unless explicitly ordered to, which was never beneficial to anyone but the top dogs of the organization) he only made things worse; roxas stops trusting him, becomes so angry with him and the organization, that he runs away, has to kill xion, and soon after gets captured by diz and riku. by doing nothing he loses both of them

How the English Translation makes Kairi characterization worse...
Why I'm going to say is about her character and it doesn't have to do with liking her with Sora or not, it's fine if people like the ship, it's completely valid but it's not about that.
The English translation had sadly change lines that gave her strength or character to lines that kills her character or even romanticizes it with Sora instead.
I'm not here saying there's anything wrong with the ship, there's not it's fine. I'm here saying how they ruin good character moments for romance or other reasons as well.
They give other people all the credit or just make it lackluster.
For example in MOM she blamed Xehanort for Sora's disappearance in the ENG version, but in truth she blamed herself. Now this changes it so she's blaming someone else, but her blaming herself gives her character like it's her fault than just her blaming someone else.
And I think that is a neat take that she blames herself because Sora wanted to bring her back so he could go home with all of his friends. I find her character to be more interesting if she blames herself and feels guilty over what happened.
Here she's taking action and feeling guilty rather than being like oh it's definitely this guy's fault. And just blaming the obvious choice — the villain is kind of like really...
I mean it sort of makes sense because Xehanort caused Kairi's heart to shatter which then Sora went to find her... But still... It just sounds better if she blamed herself, not sure why they changed it to blaming Xehanort?
Another is a dialogue that Sora says, "I'm strong with you, Kairi." And like it's fine whatever, but the original dialogue is something like "You're strong, Kairi." Now this one kind of bothers me because it uncharacterized her.
It is showing that she's strong here. Sora believes she is strong and that's nice considering how her character is always left behind. However they take that all away in the English, when he says "I'm strong with you Kairi"
It could be saying oh Sora just is strong with her because his friends make him stronger or something. But it removes that fact that Kairi is strong by herself as stated in the JPN version. And it slightly romanticizes it when there wasn't any before and because it wanted to romanticize it, it took away development for Kairi.
It also could be her along with Riku helping him get back and it seems Sora believes it was only Kairi who helped him after restoring everyone (he probably forgot what Riku did and how he sacrificed for him) so saying you're strong could also be like Oh you're strong and helped me.
And it just shows to her character she's strong and can do things, she's not the weak person who is always being left behind or needing to be saved but that's it
And taking that away just kills her character more.
I really have hopes for Kairi in future installments, if you seen any previous post I made I have stated it would be really interesting for her character to make new friends since she is Always being left behind and there could be potentially some interesting interactions and development between other characters such as the sea salt gang or Wayfinder Trio.
I also had stated that if we get to see her finding out about her past with Aqua or even Lea it would be interesting.
So far her best interaction is with Lea in kh3 and I liked how they became friends, but I really hope for more

what's your favorite thing about Xion? She's a fun character. Wish she was in Kingdom Hearts games more
( honestly? i'm a huge sap for heartache in fiction and sad stories, and the fact that her existence was ultimately pointless AND basically retconned save for a handful of flashbacks and references, all over the course of one nintendo ds game (being the first kingdom hearts game i'd ever played, actually)..? how could i not love her immediately? one day i'll finish the game. it's been over a decade and i'm still not ready to witness it firsthand... )

I know the trios are named after their 'thing', the wayfinder trio all have wayfinders, the destiny trio are all from destiny island (they should probably be the paopu trio? like their symbol is the fruit not the island) and the sea salt trio are named after the ice cream they is the symbol of their friendship
Consider the case of the Sunset Trio, inspired by Axel's colour red speech, i just realized he was predicting their fate
Xion is pink/purple, her armour is pink, her half of the missing ache/pain of solitude is a pinksh purple recolour of missing ache, a majority of the shells she collects are pink/purple, when the sun sets the sky fades from bright blue to a purplish colour and then to a pink
Xion is the first gone
Roxas colour is yellow/orange, his heart station is orangey yellow, his hair is the most yellow, before it was changed the way you told roxas and ventus apart in kh3 is that ventus had more blond hair, roxas hair was a darker yellow, after the colour of the sunlight and sky blend the sun gives one last burst of colour over the horizon, shining so bright it drowns out the blue and makes the whole sky yellow and then orange
Roxas is next, in a blaze of glory
Axel, Lea, his colour is red, the red of his hair, of his charkrams or his flames of his keyblades of the blood he spilt for the organisation, the last colour the sky turns before it fades into the dark deep blue of night, is red
Axel travelled the furthest, desperate to find those he was missing, travel all the way over to the other side of the battle field for them
The last gone
And when the sun has set, the sky is blue, and the moon rises
Only Saix remained, alone in that deep blue sky he was desperately trying to light up on his own
But thats ok, the sun will rise another day and if you look, the moon will be up there in the light blue sky right next to it, dimmer, harder to see but still there
Ok poetic stuff over, Axel Roxas and Xion as the sunset trio, it also rolls over nicely from Sora, meaning sky, being the starting point of them, the canvas they were painted on so to say, and a nice roll into the implied trio in the next few games of Lea Isa and Subject x, who probably has a star symbol to go with her, celestial trio? space trio? and it rolls back into (if x is skuld) the daybreak trio of Skuld, Ephemer and Player/ daybreak uhh quintet? of the union leaders
Feels good that Skuld, the norn of the future is connecting the daybreak and the sunset
