I'm running Firefox 117.0 (most current) and, for whatever reason, &format=original doesn't work; any webp image still saves as a webp.

BUT just downloading the wretched webps and running them through XnConvert works every time. (NB, I'm not being paid to say this, it's just a good app which does what it's supposed to.)

Drag-and-drop as many webp files as need changed onto the convert list, click Convert and the new format (there are lots, from BMP to JPG to PNG to TIF and pretty well everything else) is saved to whatever destination folder you've assigned.

I started out saving conversions to Source folder (Downloads) for comparisons before deleting the webp originals. TBH the app has been so consistently reliable that now - or rather, when I remember to do the change-destination thing - I send the conversions straight to where they belong: Cats, Swords, Vintage Cars, Foodie Pix etc.

And when I don't remember, they go where they've always gone, so that's okay.

WOO YEAH, got XnConvert and Hugin Panorama Creator running again! Next batch of photos will start posting within the next day or two, depending on how panorama-heavy the set is.

(Turns out Ubuntu 22.04 only comes with the Snap software manager, and XnConvert and Hugin are Flatpak. I had to install the Flatpak manager, and then I could get XnConvert and Hugin installed. But you're here for photos, not a play-by-play of my Linux User Problems™️.)

Personally, I haven't scanned anything in a long time, but I found a decent looking guide here on tumblr:

Other than that, I can highly recommend the free program "XnConvert". It's for bulk editing images. I used it to clean up a very messy scan of the Nausicaä manga.

The program allowed me to do this with a thousand pages in like 3 hours, and most of that time was spent finding the right settings and letting the program do its thing.

Edit: Oh dang I almost forgot, if you don't got Photoshop I can also recommend the website Photopea, it's basically photoshop as a free web application and it sure as hell beats Gimp...

How to convert images on Linux with XnConvert

neither xnconvert nor photoscape have a batch conversion tool with transparent gif or png. I've got 208 files to do so manually running them through giffy isn't an option.

Anyone who works with sprites, pixel art etc have a program recommendation?

how do you manage to upload so much? all your posts are cropped and always tagged and everything too?

Short answer: I got what I like to call "laborious laziness syndrome"

Long answer: Over the years, I basically automated every tedious part of uploading posts to this blog.

For example, the (free) program XnConvert will automatically crop a thousand manga pages in like two minutes. It can do a lot more than that, but I mostly use it for cropping.

Tagging and captioning is done by a script I wrote in AutoHotkey. With the click of a button, it does this:

I am not gonna lie, I am pretty proud of this one…

The only parts that aren't automated are actually reading the manga and picking which pages and panels I want to upload, aka the fun parts.

Anyway, when I started out, I basically had a text file with all the captions and tags, which I copied and pasted by hand. But the most time-consuming part back then was, by far, manually cropping all the pages and panels in Lightroom.

But I am pretty lazy, so I decided to try and automate all this stuff. It took a lot of time and effort (that's the laborious part of "laborious laziness") but problem-solving has always been a hobby of mine.

Some people knit to relax, I run this blog.

i was fine with fandom wikis and new UI *mainly because i didn't care much), until they changed the format when you save an image that is in png or jpg. It automatically saves it as webp, you can't change it. At all. I mean you can in the naming, but if you're editing the image or uploading the image you will get error message and like. You will waste extra time converting the format of an image online, instead to use that time for editing you wanted.

Btw, I highly recommend the software XnConvert for converting away from that awful webp format, it allows you to convert to png or jpg in huge batches in seconds. No need to find converters online or deal with compression or daily conversion limits or whatever. XnConvert is free to use unless you're using it for commercial purposes (which I'm assuming most of us on here aren't, lol) and is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

No, I'm not sponsored. It's just that this application has saved my sanity more times than I can count, lol.

Oh, and also! Here's another trick around Fandom's webp bullshit. If you go directly on the image page (so where you can see the full-sized image taking up the whole screen) and click "save as," the image should be saved as its original png or jpg format. It's up to you if you want to spend the time doing that or just drag and drop and then batch convert, but I've gotten into the habit of just "save as"ing everything. Sometimes the files do show up as corrupted so you gotta do the webp conversion anyway (which always works), but whatever.
