The Twins At A Glance- The Twins had a nice homestand, where they went (4-2) and won series from the Tigers and Astros. They head out for the final road trip of the first half in Chicago and San Francisco. Chris Paddack is activated and will start on Monday. Josh Winder was sent back to St. Paul to make room on the roster. Brock Stewart will start a rehab assignment with the Saints this week, while they play in Louisville. Austin Martin was put on the injured list with an oblique strain, which made room for Matt Wallner. Carlos Correa is fine after getting in the hand by a pitch on Sunday. There were no fractures on his fingers. Jose Miranda has been on fire and has hit 14-for-20 (.700) in June. Brooks Lee hasn't needed an adjustment to the big leagues yet. He is hitting .474 in his first five games. Josh Staumont has not allowed a run in nineteen innings of work and needs to see more higher leverage innings.

The White Sox At A Glance- The White Sox are still awful and went (9-19) in May and June. This team could be on pace for the most losses in MLB history at the end of the season. The Sox return home from a six-game road trip, where they went (2-4) against the Indians and Marlins. They return home for a six-game homestand before the All-Star Break. Paul DeJong might be a trade piece before the deadline. He has hit sixteen homers and thirty-six RBI in a resurgent season. There has been a lot of talk about Luis Robert getting traded, but you would need to overpay. Yoan Moncada is going to start a rehab assignment at the Arizona Complex League this week. He could be back up with the big league team at the end of July. Mike Cleavinger is on a rehab assignment working his way back from an elbow/neck injury. Garrett Crochet has had a great year with 146 strikeouts over 105 1/3 innings. He might be the biggest arm traded by the deadline. Michael Kopech is still their close despite a 5.45 ERA.

What To Watch For- The Twins have won all seven meetings against the White Sox in 2024. The last White Sox win over the Twins was on Septeber 16th of last year. Chris Paddack threw seven shutout innings on April 22nd against the Sox. Chris Flexen is (1-2) with a 3.94 ERA in six games against the Twins. Byron Buxton has two career homers off Flexen. Bailey Ober is (4-1) with a 3.63 ERA in eleven games against the Sox. Andrew Vaughn has homered off Ober twice. Erick Fedde gave up a run over six innings in his lone start facing the Twins. Simeon Woods Richardson has a 3.12 ERA in two starts against the White Sox. Drew Thorpe has never faced the Twins. The Twins should be able to pick up a few wins before closing out the first half in San Francisco.

El segunda base de los Yankees de Nueva York, Gleyber Torres, sigue generando diversas garantías dentro de su organización, en este último mes de temporada regular de las Grandes Ligas en uno de los momentos más difíciles en lo colectivo, tomando en cuenta que son el último lugar de la División Este de la Liga Americana, con récord de 72 ganados y 72 perdidos. Mejor conocido como el “De Caracas” no para de producir con el madero y estar entre los más destacados en su posición, siendo el líder de los “Bombarderos” más constante de toda la campaña, demostrando que tiene la capacidad de tomar un rol estelar en el terreno de juego. En el primer juego de una doble cartelera frente a los Medias Rojas de Boston, el venezolano se consagro como el héroe de este cotejo, luego de conectar un imparable en el sexto episodio con hombre dos hombres en posición anotadora y de estar forma traer las dos carreras que definieron el resultado a su favor. A Lost Series That Should’ve Been Won

The rubber game of the Yankees at White Sox yesterday was a game that was must win situation.

The experiment that Yankees tried was to have relief pitcher Ian Hamilton start the game as an opener and have Luis Severino to follow suit. I guess the Yankees philosophy was that Severino might pitch better if he’s starting the first inning of a game.

I was impressed with Hamilton in the first inning with keeping the White Sox offense at bay, so much so that I thought he would continue to pitch in the second inning. The rug was pulled out from under me when I Severino come in as early as he did.

I thought that an opener of a game could pitch more than one inning. I didn’t think that an opener only pitching one inning was a set and stone rule of thumb. I say this because I could’ve sworn that I’ve seen openers who have pitched two to three innings at most.

Given how strong Hamilton looked, he should’ve have stayed in the game longer and Severino should’ve entered the game later or not pitched at all.

The Yankees should’ve opted for the latter option because Severino was horrible once again. He gave up an RBI single to catcher Yasmani Grandal and two-run home run to right fielder Oscar Colas. This made the score 3-0 White Sox and it was only the second inning.

Severino would go on to give up an RBI double to third baseman Yoan Moncada in the third inning, making it 4-0 White Sox.

Even though the Yankees would score a run in the fourth inning, they would give that run back via a fielding error by second baseman Gleyber Torres, making it 5-1 White Sox in the fifth inning.

Things would only get worse for the Yankees when relief pitcher Albert Abreu was ineffective in the eighth inning, causing the bases to be loaded when Nick Ramirez came in for relief.

Ramirez gave up a bases clearing double to second baseman Elvis Andrus, which were Abreu’s runs mostly. Ramirez would then give up an RBI single to shortstop Tim Anderson. Now, it was 9-2 White Sox and the Yankees definitely had no chance to come back from this.

The running scoring had ended for the Yankees with designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hitting a solo home run. The final score was 9-2 White Sox.

The Yankees just lost a series to a subpar team in the White Sox and have a battle on their hands when they face the Miami Marlins tomorrow through Sunday. They, of course, face the tough Atlanta Braves Monday through Wednesday.

The Yankees are in huge trouble if they can’t win these next two series. They need a miracle if they want to get into the postseason this year.

Llega el beisbol a MIWISCONSIN

Después de más de seis años y varios retrasos, el World Baseball Classic finalmente ha regresado. Para los que no están familiarizados, el Clásico es un torneo mundial de béisbol. El torneo fue formado en el 2006 y eventualmente reemplazó al Baseball World Cup. Desde ese entonces han habido cuatro torneos, Japón ganó los primeros dos (campeones del 2006 y 2009), República Dominicana ganó el torneo del 2013 y los Estados Unidos ganaron el último Clásico del 2017.  Ya hemos tenido una semana entera de acción en el World Baseball Classic, mañana empezará la parte eliminatoria del torneo. Han pasado muchas cosas en la fase de grupos del torneo, repasemos brevemente lo que se pueden haber perdido durante la primera semana del WBC.  En el WBC hay 20 equipos divididos entre 5 grupos, los dos mejores equipos de cada grupo avanzarán a la fase eliminatoria del torneo. En el grupo A (compuesto de Cuba, Italia, Panamá, Holanda y Chinese Taipei), Cuba e Italia lograron avanzar con récords de 2-2.  Cuba fue campeón del mundial de béisbol 25 veces, en un país que históricamente ha tenido mucho éxito en el deporte. Estrellas como Yoan Moncada y Luis Robert Jr. están haciendo todo lo posible para que su país regrese a los niveles altos donde antes estaban. Italia logró avanzar a la siguiente fase gracias a victorias impresionantes contra Cuba y Holanda. A Cuba e Italia les tocará jugar contra los ganadores del grupo B, Australia y Japón respectivamente. Australia ha sido una de las sorpresas de este torneo, tuvieron una fase de grupo muy impresionante, logrando victorias contra China, Corea del Sur y La República Checa. Japón es posiblemente el equipo que se ha visto más fuerte este torneo, no han perdido un partido y su superestrella Shohei Ohtani ha dominado en ambos lados del campo.  Los grupos C y D no se decidirán hasta el 15 de Marzo por la tarde. Presentemente, los Estados Unidos y Colombia son los ganadores del Grupo C. La selección Estadounidense es uno de los favoritos para ganar este torneo, tienen algunos de los mejores jugadores en la Liga Mayor de Béisbol como Mookie Betts, Nolan Arenado, Pete Alonso y Mike Trout. Sin embargo, México y Canadá todavía tienen gran chance de avanzar. México (quien logró ganarle a la selección Estadounidense 11-5) está compuesto de jugadores talentosos como Randy Arozarena y Rowdy Tellez. Se enfrentarán contra Gran Bretaña esta tarde y contra Canadá mañana el 15 de Marzo. Canadá (compuestos de estrellas como Freddie Freeman y O’Neill) le ganó a Colombia 5-0 esta tarde, su partido contra México mañana será una de altas estacas y probablemente decidirá quién avanzará del grupo con los Estados Unidos. Mucha gente ha llamado al grupo D el grupo de la muerte. Este grupo está compuesto por Puerto Rico, Venezuela y La República Dominicana, tres países latinos con mucho talento y cultura de béisbol. Venezuela ha sido uno de los equipos más duros del torneo, le han ganado a Puerto Rico y a La República Dominicana de manera convincente. Venezuela siempre ha llevado equipos muy talentosos al Clásico, desafortunadamente no han tenido mucha suerte en Clásicos previos. Este es una de los equipos más fuertes que la selección Venezolana ha tenido, está compuesto de varios estrella como: Jose Altuve, Anthony Santander y Ronald Acuna Jr. Son uno de los favoritos para ganar el torneo gracias a un comienzo muy importante. El segundo ganador de este grupo se decidirá mañana el 15 de marzo a las 7pm cuando Puerto Rico se enfrente contra la República Dominicana. La selección Dominicana tiene un equipo absolutamente repleto de talento, tienen varias estrellas incluyendo a: Wander Franco, Juan Soto, Manny Machado y Julio Rodríguez. Sin embargo, el Team Rubio de Puerto Rico es una selección con mucha experiencia y orgullo. Jugadores como Francisco Lindor, Javy Baez, Edwin Diaz y Eddie Rosario harán todo lo posible para ganarle a su rival vecino. The White Sox At A Glance- The White Sox have been awful to start the year and it's stunning that they are (3-18) to start the season. The team let Tim Anderson walk in free agency, traded Aaron Bummer to the Braves for Mike Soroka and Nicky Lopez, signed Paul DeJong, Erick Fedde, Tim Hill, Chris Flexen, Martin Maldonado, and John Brebbia as free agents. Luis Robert is out with a hip injury, Yoan Moncada has an adductor injury and is out, and John Brebbia is on a rehab assignment after he had a calf injury. The Sox offense is averaging two runs per game and are hitting .188 as a team. Paul DeJong has been the most consistent hitter with a .256 average. DeJong and Gavin Sheets lead the team with three homers each. Chicago has only hit eleven homers on the year. The White Sox starting rotation ERA is 5.93, which is second-worst in baseball. Erick Fedde has been the most consistent starter. The bullpen is in the middle of the pack with a 3.81 ERA. Steven Wilson has been a good bullpen arm with a 1.13 ERA, Jordan Leasure has given up one run over 8 1/3 innings, and Jared Shuster has been good.

The Twins At A Glance- The Twins have stumbled out of the blocks in the first twenty games of the season. It's been a combination of injuries, not hitting, and occasional bad starts by starters, but they are off to a (7-13) start. Hopefully an easier schedule helps the team get back on track. Max Kepler was activated off the injured list on Monday and the team called up Ronny Henriquez. They optioned Jair Camargo and Louie Varland back to St. Paul. Trevor Larnach has given the lineup a bit of punch. He went 3-for-8 with a homer and three RBI over the weekend. Austin Martin has done well too and is on a seven-game hitting streak, where he is hitting .321. The Twins starting pitching own a 5.38 ERA, which is third-worst in baseball. The team isn't sure who will take Louie Varland's spot in the rotation. I think Simeon Woods Richardson could get a start or two. He pitched well in the doubleheader in Detroit. Jhoan Duran is starting a rehab assingment with the Saints on Tuesday. Justin Topa could return in May after a rehab assignment.

What to Watch For- The Twins went (9-4) against the White Sox in 2023. The Twins went (5-1) against the Sox at Target Field last year. Jonathan Cannon, Erick Fedde, and Chris Paddack have never faced their opponents before. Pablo Lopez is (0-1) with a 4.12 ERA in three starts against the White Sox. Eloy Jimenez has two career homers off Lopez. Garrett Crochet owns a 1.74 ERA in 10 1/3 career innings against the Twins. Joe Ryan is (1-0) with a 3.38 ERA in three starts versus the Sox. Mike Soroka gave up three runs over seven innings in his only start against the Twins. Bailey Ober is (3-1) with a 3.5 ERA in twen starts against the Sox. Andrew Vaughn has two homers off Ober in his career. It could be a huge turning point for the Twins as they play the lowly White Sox in seven of the next ten games. They have a lighter schedule and need to take advantage of it.
