Zofia my beloved! I think that her character arc of finding who she is outside of knighthood after her injury is really compelling. I would love more solo content involving her, but having her as a more worldly/grounded contrast to the idealism of the Knight sisters is also really nice! I will freely admit I engage in low effort fandom horse pussy jokes about her, but I do wish that she'd get more attention beyond JUST her being chaldea's most eligible bachelorette.

As of the conclusion of the 24th Major Season of November 6, 1097. Margaret Nearl is 23 Years Old, 6 Months, and 17 Days old.

There's also Four other things.

That Maria Nearl is between 18-21, has only half a year of experience, and has more than fucking Kiryu Kazama'd her way through the world, and is most likely going to get stronger than Margaret Nearl with enough time. Remember, she fought all those enemies with only half a years worth of experience and fucking SURVIVED with blood on her hands and ass more than planted on the ground.

The other is that Margaret's getting Mass Pussy at the tender age of College Student.

Zofia is "Near their age", so I would put her around late twenties. Her skin doesn't specify which Major it was, and her profile only says she has 4 Years worth of competition knight experience. I'll go into her more (heh) at a later date when there's more info on her.

Lastly, since we know Mlynar is around at the very least half a century old, since that's how long he's fought against/with the Darksteels, he should be around 60 at the very least, this would mean he started fighting at 10, then again, Mlynar was noted to make Margaret look insignificant in strength, so it's possible. I don't have any of the Extra Shit on hand so I'll have to wait for when the rerun comes around.

How did I figure Nearl's out? Well:

NTR Knight has 8 Years of combat Experience, this was recorded in 1097, the 24th Major Season.

This would mean the start of her Combat Experience would be in 1089, so Nearl had 2 years of combat with the campaign knights before she defected, joined the competition knights, and won the 22nd Major Season of 1091. This would also be the year in which she is suddenly exiled after her victory by Krill Nearl, the grandfather and National hero of Kazimierz after his decisive victory in the "Daybreak of the Golden Prairie" of 1072.  According to the source below, of which accessed another source that is apparently an official dev blog that I myself cannot find due to not being able to understand Chinese.

Since she was Exiled at 16 in 1091, this means she started truly fighting at the tender age of 14 in 1089, with what was most likely 2 to 5 years' worth of training from the Family. This would also mean Nearl's complete birthday would be April 23, 1075, 3 Years after her grandfather was hailed as a National hero.

So, to reitirate.

Copypasta of my thread from Twitter bec I like the Nearls a lot and they’re some of my fave characters ever.

I wrote this thread before I got the chance to read Obscure Wanderer (I have now), but I REALLY like how he was written before that point. (MN & NL + his lines)

HG ACTUALLY knows what a cynical former idealist would look like. He's a tragic character and incredibly interesting to me.

He scoffs at what Maria, Zofia, and Margaret do because he doesn't believe in symbolic change or small movements anymore, and there's a real pain knowing it that comes from the people closest to him.

But at the same time, it's a reminder of his own personal failure, and a reminder of how much he's lost to a completely messed up system rigged against him. His answer is realistic for him, a grounded but cynical way of changing it while biding his time.

He STILL wants change, but he's broken. No longer an idealist, just trying to make strides for reform while playing the system's game, not realizing he's been consumed by it. So he shits on anyone else not playing ball just because he stuck himself in it.

The man literally took 10 years of his life keeping his head down against everything he hates, while also distancing himself and breeding resentment for everything he loves. He's such a GOOD cynical character.

Because among ALL the characters in Arknights, he /understands/. More than Ch'en who only begins to realize it after Chernobog. That you can't just punch a broken system in the face.  Even with sword and strength, he can't kill abstract, systemic ills with physical means.

But still, he fights.

Because while he is but a broken man, a shadow of a knight that could have been, a shell of the Nearl family's former glory—

He is not defeated, and his light has not been extinguished. He still hopes.

What a lovely, flawed character.
