I haven't watched the Qatar 2022 World Cup, but, not that it is over, I have just realized something.

This is a World Cup that was announced all the way back in 2010. That was 12 years ago. I was a 17 year old high school student back then, first hearing about the 2022 edition.

During all these years, I have had my fair share of experiences. Friendships came and went, I tried new things, went abroad, got a university degree and many, many other things, while Qatar 2022 was "the upcoming World Cup". It had been this way for so long that it didn't even feel strange.

From now on, however, when I will have to hear about Qatar 2022, it will only be in the past tense.

For some reason, it feels like a specific period of my life is over. Which is, again, strange, because it's not like I am an avid football fan whose life is dedicated to this sport.

But now, I wonder how am I going to feel like when I will hear mentions and references to Qatar 2022 as a past event that has concluded, when, for 12 years, it was an upcoming event.
