I just think if you’re doing a TGAA crossover and you’re using the name Herlock Sholmes. You have to apply that to all crossed-over characters. An encounter with Raffles and Bunny? Forgive me, you must mean J. A. Contests and his dear Hare Sanders. A Wodehouse crossover, you say? Why, surely it’s Wertie Booster and his marvelous valet, Jeginald Reeves!
Arsène Lupin is the same though.

I only had to do a little googling and I found out that it IS a tv show and it IS british and it IS from the 70s! I did not know that it was a sherlock holmes adaptation where they were criminals instead of crime solvers OR that it's legitimately just called "Raffles" (like literally that's the name of the show and of the holmes character. idk they just don't seem... comparable to me yk?) OR that it's like. basically canonically gay.
#its right up my alley#turns out i really like tv from the 70s lol#i found the full series on youtube and started watching immediately#a. j. raffles#i dont think ive figured out what the a.j. stands for yet though

Ah, if only this had been posted yesterday, when it was the appropriate day of Pulptober!
Taking a Look at Raffles Book Covers
When we look at some of these covers for collections of the A.J. Raffles stories by E.W. Hornung, we can see a similar idea and motifs consistent in all editions. Opulent dress denoting wealth/status; the black crepe mask or jewels to denote his occupation as a burglar. Similarly, they also all give this sense of an audacious and suave criminal in classy dress.
However, I find this cover for The Complete Raffles Annotated & Illustrated a very striking one.
The colours are notably quite dulled - though not a dramatic monochrome - as the hue of Raffles's skin is just visible. The light of the match's flame is the main light source, and with the light pink colour of Raffles's skin, it is warm. His eyes are just barely closed, and the culminating effect is of a quiet and down-guarded moment, the cigarette, of course, being a means of relaxation.
His opulence and status is still made clear by his clothes, and new-comers still have a chance to understand his important 'gentleman' aspect. However, this illustration also depicts Raffles with white hair, meaning it is after the case of the Uhlan vessel from 'The Gift of the Emperor', and undeniably aged; yet he still hasn't quit his felonious practices. As most covers depict his black curls of the Albany days, this also shows a lesser-seen side of Raffles, one more aged and mature in this contemplative illustration.
This arguably intimate moment is so rarely seen of Raffles in the stories, it can really only be grasped with just that little look into its subtext, perhaps best captured in
And still, with all the magic mischief of his smile, there was that touch of sadness which I was yet to read aright. (Out of Paradise)
This cover is clearly occupied with presenting the quiet, sombre and very hidden side of Raffles's personality which can be easy to fly by in the thrills of his adventures.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Raffles - E. W. Hornung
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Bunny Manders/A. J. Raffles, A. J. Raffles/Diamonds
Characters: Bunny Manders, A. J. Raffles
Additional Tags: Crack, Jealousy, Anal Sex, there may be sex but I’m not sure I’d call this fic sexy
Summary:
Prompt from the long-dead Raffles Kink Meme: “Raffles gets extremely turned on when he cracks a safe stuffed with diamond jewelry. He can't help but make that fact known in one way or another, consciously or otherwise, much to Bunny's horror.”
(Or, Bunny’s jealousy has an unexpected new target.)

I'd invite you to join Letters From Bunny, the substack Newsletter, but we're already most of the way through.
Also, I don't think substack Newsletters are a good way to be introduced to a work.
Pulptober 2024: 15 - Raffles
Ah yes, the one that Tumblr is constantly talking about. Also, I must confess that I gave slipped a little, it is two hours after midnight on the 16th.

(Art by Joseph Christian Leyendecker)
A. J. Raffles is a British gentleman thief, who appeared in a series of short stories between 1898 and 1909. He is said to be a kind of anti-Holmes: He lives in a rich part of London, spends his days around the upper class, and also he's a criminal. He was (and, based on what I see up here, still is) a popular character, who has appeared in a great many adaptations in different mediums.
..... Yeah, I see why Tumblr would like him. *Sigh* Added to my list.

Super Rough Sketch for Raffles Week 2025!
(theme: literature)

This is supposed to be Bunny typing out some of the Raffles stories (particularly ‘The Knees of The Gods’). It didn’t turn out how I was imagining it to and it’s very rough but oh well it’s all practice!
(Also, song recommendation for ‘The Knees of The Gods’: ‘The Soldiering Life’ by the Decemberists)

Who here likes ✨crime✨??
This Ides of March, make it special by not only stabbing Caesar 23 times, but by robbing from the rich for the sake of the poor. Or, at least, reading gay stories about it.
The Raffles Stories were written by E. W. Hornung in the early 1900s-10s, following the felonious exploits of AJ Raffles and his besotted chronicler, Bunny Manders. You can read all of these excellent stories, conveniently delivered to your email inbox for free, by subscribing to the Letters From Bunny Substack. The first story, The Ides of March will start the series off on, as you may have guessed, March 15th, otherwise known as our favorite Tumblr holiday. More information can be found at the link below:

I hope you will consider subscribing if you have not yet. Cheers to the death of Caesar! 🗡️
