Not this man going hai kalyug ki draupadi ab na kanhaiya madhav aayenge kyunki laaj sharam pani ki tarah kho chuki and shit what not saying ab kapde pehenne bolo toh mahabharat chidh jati hai. He ended with this line that aur isike karan aane vali pidi (generation) kabhi maa ka aanchal nahi dekh payegi kyunki voh jeans pehenti hai
And I will forever hate men for this because I am done having to see men and their stupid comments and views for women's clothing jab saala khud jeans tshirt mein photo rakha hai DP
Maryada laaj sirf stri ke shareer pe latke uske kapde se hoga uska shareer ko sirf sexualize karna aata hai voh choti bachi ho ya 80 ki dadi.
Tum Sare mard ek jaise hi ho aur kuch nahi
(Jisko offense lena ho bhai lelo)

the book everlasting things | aanchal malhotra | 2022
samir vij, a hindu boy, and firdaus khan, a muslim girl, first meet in 1938 in lahore, india. over the next decade, they grow from children to young adults and fall in love. but the struggle for india’s independence from britain and the movement for pakistan has ravaged their city, putting samir and firdaus on opposite ends of the spectrum. with their love now forbidden, they are severed from each other. spanning continents and generations, steeped in perfumery and calligraphy, this is the story of two lovers and two nations split apart by force beyond their control, yet bound by love, memory, and history.
this book. i was sitting their crying and snot-nosed saying ‘what the fuck’ to a room with no one in it when i finished this book. this book is sad.
there were aspects that i loved and aspects that i didn’t care for. i loved samir and firdaus and their love for each other. however i came with expectations for the plot and they were not met. mainly, i thought they would find each other after partition but NO. NEVER DID THEY EVER MEET AGAIN. the ever creeping sense of dread i felt as i saw their ages increase, the pages left decrease and there were no indications that they would ever be on the same continent, let alone the same ROOM. so it made everything sadder tbh
i definitely connected to firdaus more than samir. though this book focuses more on samir and his family and you follow more of samir’s story throughout his life. i think this is because of the major subplot of samir’s uncle vivek and his time in france after/during WWI. tbh, i skimmed this portion because i didn’t care about vivek. i wanted to just get samir and firdaus together (wish unfulfilled).
but other than this book is pretty well written. it waxes poetic about perfumery and scents (which feel a little esoteric and woo woo sometimes i’ll allow it lol). i kind of wish there would have been some actual calligraphy featured in the book because it takes about, and has it transliterated, but i think it would have  cool to see the visual. but i really appreciated the glimpse this book gave me in to pre-partition india and pakistan and its effects on the families. and also the more geopolitical position of india.
tldr: i am mad. i am sad. i am crying real tears. but i was happy to have read the book.
