espnf1: IT'S OFFICIAL! 🏁 Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett are teaming up to produce an alternate F1 telecast at three races this year on ESPN 🙌
(full article under the cut)
Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett to host alternate F1 telecasts on ESPN
Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett will host an alternate telecast on ESPN2 during next weekend's Canadian Grand Prix.
The debut episode of The Grandstand with Daniel Ricciardo and Will Arnett will air on June 18 on ESPN2 in the U.S., while regular race coverage of the Canadian Grand Prix will be broadcast on ABC.
Two further editions of the telecast will run at the U.S. Grand Prix on October 22 and the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 18.
The telecasts will be produced in collaboration with Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions, whose critically-acclaimed 'ManningCasts' have proved popular on Monday Night Football.
Ricciardo, an eight-time race winner who is currently Red Bull Racing's third driver, and Arnett, a recent fan of F1 who starred in hit TV series Arrested Development and 30 Rock, will be joined by guests during the race.
For the upcoming episode over the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, Ricciardo will be on location at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal while Arnett will join from a remote location.
"This is going to be a hoot!" Ricciardo said. "As you'd expect Will and I are going to have some fun with the show, but we're hoping it just feels like you're watching F1 with your mates.
"We will have some amazing guests, plenty of laughs and with some luck, bring fans another step closer to the sport I love so much. Buckle up America!"
Arnett added: "The more I learn about Formula One, the more I'm intrigued by it. The opportunity to work with Mika [Hakkinen, two-time F1 champion] on my podcast was fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to doing this show with Daniel. We're going to have fun, and so will the viewers."

…you seem to have misunderstood me entirely. Again, the point isn’t that queer media can’t be criticized, the point is that it should be criticized fairly. the whole webcomic thing was just the first example that popped into my head. Yes, that post is addressing queer people who consume queer media, who will pull it apart for not being perfect representations of their specific experience, or for being kind of okay, then turn around and start raving about idk, ABC’s newest mediocre crime drama. this is a direct criticism of an observed phenomena, and whether or not You have seen this phenomena doesn’t mean it does not happen
babying queer media absolutely does not come into play, i would say it’s the exact opposite actually! i have seen both middling safe queer media and transgressive freakshit (affectionate) queer media stomped into the ground because they didn’t “do it right.” a great majority of the people who do this specific kind of “criticism” DO NOT like the thing they’re criticizing, have not engaged with it in good faith, and simply want to feel better about themselves by pretending they’re rallying for queer rights by calling out the bad, evil queers who are being Gay in the Wrong Way
I'm not sure I misunderstood you, but it's possible! Communication is difficult!
I guess let me try to clarify what I understood about what you said?
If you're arguing that people make bad faith arguments to try morally justify and canonize their tastes and why Their Thing is good and That Other Thing is bad, I completely agree, but that is a separate issue. It's not really a "people are harsh on gay media" thing that is a "the internet is addicted to virtue signaling and moral grandstanding" thing. So yeah, people can be unfairly critical of gay media by using bullshit bad faith arguments/criticism.
But on that note, the blade cuts both ways - I've seen a LOT of "you should consume this because it's gay" on the internet regardless of quality, with the unspoken understanding that it being queer must mean that it is "good". MUCH more of that, in fact, than the opposite - especially on tumblr.
It sounds like you and I fundamentally dont agree on that last point: I do happen to think queer media is especially babied on the internet/tumblr, and you say you think the opposite is true. So this might be a difference in the crowds we run or what we consider good/babying/etc, or maybe even what we consider legitimate criticism.
Whatever it is, it seems our life experiences seem to be at odds here, so it might be fueling whatever misunderstanding we might be having. I think there are assumptions you are making (and vice-versa) that I simply do not hold true in my understanding of reality.

NITA STRAUSS Shares New Single 'Winner Takes All' Featuring ALICE COOPER
ALICE COOPER guitarist Nita Strauss has released a new single, "Winner Takes All", featuring a guest appearance by the legendary rocker. The track is taken from Nita's upcoming sophomore solo album, tentatively due later this year via Sumerian Records.
"Winner Takes All" is the third song Nita has released featuring a star guest vocalist, the first being the enormously successful "Dead Inside" which featured guest vocals from DISTURBED's David Draiman and saw Nita become the first-ever solo female to have a No. 1 hit at Active Rock radio. She also returned to her instrumental roots last year with the release of single "Summer Storm", a fast-paced, emotive shred-fest. In October 2022, Nita dropped "The Wolf You Feed", an epic headbanger of a track featuring the insane vocal talent of Alissa White-Gluz of ARCH ENEMY.
Says Nita: "When we were working on the music for this album, there was no question that I wanted to create a song to collaborate with my longtime boss and friend, the legendary Alice Cooper. I think the track accomplishes what we set out to do — showcase Alice's voice and signature style on the backdrop of a heavy, modern rock track. After many years of lending my style of playing to Alice's music on stage, it was truly an honor to work together and hear his voice on one of my songs!"
Back in February 2022, Nita told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" about her upcoming LP: "It's gonna be half and half — six tracks with vocalists and six tracks of instrumental [music]. We've been doing ['Dead Inside'] live on the solo tour and it's been getting a super-good reaction from our crowds."
In early December 2022, Nita told "The Mistress Carrie Podcast" about her decision to make the upcoming LP half vocal songs and half instrumental: "I did feel, and the label and everybody agreed, it's still important for me to keep my identity as a guitar player and not just branch off too much and go, 'Okay, well, now it's just guests.' Let me still have a little of what makes me me, which is the instrumental shred stuff. And the instrumental pieces that I've written on this record are, I think, better than anything I did on the first one — definitely more… I don't know if it could be more emotional but they're very emotional pieces of music and I think a little better crafted this time around. So I think all the songs in general are more well thought out, better put together this time around. And I do have some of my absolute favorite [singers guesting on it]. I have three amazing powerhouse female vocalists on this album so far."
Nita released 2018's "Controlled Chaos" to mass acclaim from fans and media alike, with Metal Injection calling it "a great debut that — as its creator intended — leaves no doubt", and Guitar World stating "'Controlled Chaos' is a panoramic view of Nita Strauss's many strengths".
Earlier this month, it was announced that Nita would return to Alice's band for his 2023 tour.
The Alice Cooper North American tour, with an all-new show dubbed "Too Close For Comfort", kicks off in late April in Michigan and continues through late September, including a handful of August stadium shows with DEF LEPPARD and MÖTLEY CRÜE, followed by a co-headlining late summer "Freaks On Parade" tour with Rob Zombie.
Nita spent eight years playing with Alice before joining Demi Lovato's band last summer,
Strauss played her first full live show with Demi on August 13, 2022 at the Grandstand at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Illinois.
Nita made her live debut with Demi on July 14, 2022 with a performance of "Substance" on ABC's Emmy Award-winning late-night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".
Strauss had been playing with Cooper since 2014 when she replaced Australian musician and former Michael Jackson player Orianthi. She joined Alice in time for a mammoth MÖTLEY CRÜE tour. She was recommended to Cooper by the legendary rocker's former bass player and WINGER frontman Kip Winger.

Australia defeats England in their second ODI as Alex Carey top scores at Headingley
Australia’s pace attack has delivered again as the tourists survived a modest batting performance to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series in England. Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Aaron Hardie made a sub-par 270 look mountainous to England’s callow batting line-up, taking five wickets in the 10-over powerplay. The hosts were ultimately dismissed for 202, giving the tourists a 68-run win at Headingley. Put in to bat after losing the toss under cloudy skies, only Mitchell Marsh (60) and Alex Carey (74) passed 50 as Australia was dismissed with 32 balls unused. Though needing less than a run-a-ball, England began the chase in a hurry, and as in Thursday’s first match, the recklessness played into Australia’s hands, with the quicks reducing the home side to 5 for 65 at the end of the powerplay with two golden ducks. There was no way back from that, despite Jamie Smith’s 49, and Australia cantered to its 14th successive ODI win, a run that has been exceeded only by another Australian side, Ricky Ponting’s World Cup winners of 2003, who achieved 21 on the run. “You always like more with the bat, these days, 270 always feels a little bit short, but the way the boys bowled was outstanding,” Marsh said. “When you welcome that much experience into your line-up that’s great. It’s also the help they give the others, having Aaron Hardie bowling with Starc and Hazlewood is a really good learning experience for him.” It was Australia’s first ODI win at Headingley since the famous 1999 World Cup victory over South Africa when Steve Waugh made a century after being dropped early on by Herschelle Gibbs. Marsh provided another captain’s knock but the key innings was by Carey, who only played as Josh Inglis has a tight quad. Booed to the crease by Yorkshire fans remembering his dismissal of local hero Jonny Bairstow at Lord’s last year, he led a superb rearguard action that included a 49-run last wicket stand with Hazlewood, who made four. Travis Head, the matchwinner at Trent Bridge with an unbeaten 154, had begun where he left off, smashing two sixes, but was caught at deep square leg for 29. Matthew Potts then dismissed both Matt Short (29), edging flat-footed to the keeper, and Steve Smith (4), bowled through the gate and the tourists were 3 for 89. Headingley has terrible memories for many Australians but not for Marsh, who revived his career with a brilliant counter-attacking Test century at the Yorkshire ground in the 2023 Ashes. He looked comfortable, smiting three sixes, and with Marnus Labuschagne (28) rebuilt the innings. However, Jacob Bethell dismissed both and caught Glenn Maxwell (7) on the ropes and Australia were 6 for 161 having lost 3 for 16. Carey, initially supported by Hardie (23), then a stubborn Hazlewood, rose to the challenge, lifting Australia to a defendable total. Then the bowlers got to work.  Hazlewood had Phil Salt (12) swishing and missing before being caught behind.  Next Starc (2 for 50) had Will Jacks (0) superbly caught by Short at second slip first ball before trapping stand-in skipper Harry Brook (4) with a trademark inswinging yorker. Can’t get enough cricket from Grandstand? Tune in for the latest cricket news, interviews and analysis from the ABC team in the Grandstand Cricket Podcast. Amid the carnage Ben Duckett (32) had been batting serenely but a slower ball from Hardie (2 for 26) foxed him and his superb return catch was matched by Carey’s legside take a ball later as Liam Livingstone (0) edged. England needed Jamie Smith to copy Carey and for a while he did.  With Bethell (25), then Brydon Carse (26) he kept England hoping. Marsh, aware wickets were the issue, brought back Hazlewood and, aided by a sharp catch at mid-wicket by substitute fielder Jake Fraser-McGurk, that did the trick.  Though Adil Rashid (27) lifted England past 200 it was just a matter of time. The third match in the series is on Tuesday (9:30pm AEST) at Durham. AAP Source link via The Novum Times

Week 2 - Exploration of a negative situation of a sports venue.
The second entry will explore a negative situation that occurred at a sporting venue and discuss the actions that a sporting venue can take to reduce certain factors to ensure that the situation doesn’t transpire again. The situation that this entry will focus on is the grandstand fire that befell Bradford City Stadium in 1985, which saw 56 fatal injuries alongside another 250+ non-fatal injuries (Bradford City AFC, 2024).
Artefact 3 – Bradbury City Fiery Reminder
Tumblr media
(ABC News, 2015)
Angraaini and Letief (2021) openly discuss the modern-day popularity of sports around the globe and claim that more people than ever are flocking to their closest sports arena to take part in the spectacle that is the sports atmosphere. They contend that this upsurge in spectating has made it essential that sporting venues develop in conjunction with the attendance increase to properly accommodate crowd levels that were not previously manageable to respective stadiums. Therefore, to ensure that the spectator experience is considered, a stadium’s redevelopments must be made with safety at the forefront of renovation planning. Reinforcing this idea, Graat et al. (1999) explain how important risk assessment is when considering redevelopments or constructions of sporting arenas, they suggest that to competently mitigate specific hazards, stadiums must recognise and understand as much as possible about the hazard, so they can put proper measures in place to reduce said hazards. Thus, sporting stadiums must be preemptive enough to account for various potential dangers and ensure that every possible outcome has been acknowledged, giving the venue the best chance to lessen the impact of emergencies. This paper determines that stadia can't predict how an emergency will surface, or how spectators will react when faced with said emergency, hence, stadia must focus their resources on things that they can control such as communication of emergency messaging, walkway construction and emergency exit reachability. These factors can assist spectators make more appropriate choices and behave calmer in emergencies, leading to safer actions from fans. In the case of Bradford City, the blaze stemmed from a lit cigarette butt being dropped beneath the stands, which set alight to a pile of rubbish below the stands. What worsened this tragedy was the fact that the stadium’s stands were made out of wood, accelerating the fire into a full-fledged inferno that took the lives of 56 fans (BBC, 2014).

Biden Clueless about U.S-China Summit
LOS ANGELES (OnlineColumnist.com), March 19, 2021.--Saying he was “proud” of 58-year-old Secretary of State Tony Blinken and 44-year-old National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan at the Anchorage summit for standing up to China, 78-year-old President Joe Biden could not be more detached from reality.  By anyone’s accounts, the summit has gone poorly because the U.S. delegation lectured China about human rights abuses with Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang Province, pro-Democracy protesters in Hong Kong and business ties with Taiwan.  China’s Foreign Minister Jang Jiechi and State Councilor Wang Yi were taken aback by the brazen rudeness of Blinken and Sullivan’s opening statements, accusing China of human right abuses and violating “the rules based order,” referring to China’s actions in the South and East China Sea.  “I am very proud of the Secretary of State,” Biden said, not realizing the Anchorage summit has gone badly.
Biden’s dealing with his own problems in fallout of a hideous gaffe to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos March 16 calling Russian President Vladimir Putin as “soulless killer.”  Stephanopoulos was so dumbfounded, he asked the question twice whether Biden thought Putin was a killer.  “Mmm Hmmm, I do,” answered Biden.  Biden’s gaffe resulted in Mocow calling back their U.S. Amb. Anatoly Antonov for consultation.  Biden’s proud over the fact that his chief diplomat alienated China, just like he did when he demanded Putin release 44-year-old Russian dissident Alexi Navalny from jail.  Biden said he wanted Blinken to go into the meeting from a “position of strength,” thinking he can call China out on its human rights abuses.  Well this time around, Yang gave Blinken some of his own medicine, telling the new Secretary of State that the U.S. was in no place to lecture China on human rights.
Biden said he would lead a coalition against Communist China, something so preposterous it’s actually dangerous.  No one in Europe, Asia or elsewhere wants to get into a spat with China, over the plight of pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong, treatment of Uyghurs in Xinjiain, or, for that matter, U.S. business lies with Taiwan  Talking about Tibet is old news, not subject to discussion, beyond China saying its an internal Chinese matter, none of the U.S. beeswax.  Yet Biden’s so proud of Blinken who’s made a mess of U.S.-Russian relations, now does the same thing with China.  One big difference in China is that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s doesn’t care about the rhetoric, only the bottom line.  So whatever Blinken did to alienate Beijing, all is forgotten as long as China gets the business deals with the U.S. it wants, especially ending former President Trump’s sanctions.
Biden told the European Union Feb. 19 that “America is back,” meaning that he’s ready, unlike Trump, to lead the “Free World,” a term so obsolete, so misguided, so off-the-wall, that EU allies said, essentially, no thanks.  As Biden destroys U.S.-Russian relations, he’s looking to do the same in the EU.  Biden told German Chancellor Angela Merkel to cancel the $11 billion Nord Stream 2 pipline to drag Germany and the EU into his beef with Putin.  Merkel told Biden and EU Council President Ursula von der Leyen, no way.  Blinken and Sullivan acted clueless, that they could walk into a Summit with China and lambaste them on human rights.  Yang hit back quickly, throwing back up current events in the United States.  “China will not accept unwarranted accusations from the U.S. side,” Yang said.  Once Biden said Jan. 27 the U.S. suffers from “systemic racism,” that’s all China needed to hear.
Blinken acted clueless that Yang and Wi would accept his indictment of China’s human rights abuses.  “I’m hearing deep dissatisfaction that the United States is back, that we’re reengaged,” Blinken told Yang.  “I’m also hearing deep concerns about some to the actions your government is taking,” Blinken said, offering no specifics, but most likely referring to the crackdown in Hong Kong.  Whatever the issue, China is not into American politics, talking about such rubbish that “America is back.”  Blinken needs to stop campaigning against Trump and deal with the reality of China.  No one in China cares about how much animosity Biden or Blinken have for Trump.  China only cares about working constructively with U.S. to augment their bottom line.  “The United States does not have the qualification to say that it wants to speak to China from a position of strength,” Yang said.
Lecturing China on its “position of strength” backfired on Blinken, Sullivan and of course Biden.  Raising China’s mistreatment of Muslim Uyghurs in Xinjiang, Hong Kong protesters or Taiwan’s rights was exactly the wrong approach.  “Many people within the United States actually have little confidence in the democracy of the United States,” Yang said, referring to the months of violent street protests over treatment of African Americans.  “We believe that it is important for the United States to change its own image and to stop advocating its own democracy to the rest of the world,” Yang said, giving the U.S. delegation a dose of its own medicine.  Instead of grandstanding for the U.S. press, Blinken and Sullivan should have stuck to important bilateral issues, not lambasting China on human rights.  Biden said he was proud of Blinken for messing up another important U.S. relationship.

Bucky Pizzarelli, whose guitar mastery extended to seven strings, dies at 94 of coronavirus.
Bucky Pizzarelli, one of the nation’s preeminent seven-string guitarists, who began his career as a coveted sideman and studio musician before stepping out on his own and forming an acclaimed jazz duo with one of his sons, died April 1 at his home in Saddle River, N.J. He was 94.
The cause was the coronavirus disease covid-19, said his son John Pizzarelli, a guitarist and singer with whom Mr. Pizzarelli formed one of the rare father-son duos in jazz.
Mr. Pizzarelli honed a gentle, richly textured sound while playing as an accompanist and solo artist, performing lyrical improvised solos that typically featured chords rather than single notes.
Although he began his career in the 1940s, touring as a teenager with singer Vaughn Monroe’s dance band, he came into his own after acquiring a seven-string Gretsch guitar in 1969, inspired by seven-string pioneer George Van Eps.
The instrument featured an extra bass string, which Mr. Pizzarelli used to virtuosic effect in swing-era standards, Brazilian bossa nova and songs by the Beatles, Burt Bacharach and Henry Mancini. A fixture of the New York jazz scene for decades, he was also a staff musician at ABC and NBC, where he played with the “Tonight Show” band and tuned Tiny Tim’s ukulele before the musician got married before a TV audience of millions in 1969.
Mr. Pizzarelli spent much of the 1950s and ’60s inside recording studios, where he arrived early to practice his nylon-string classical guitar and did three sessions a day, recording tracks such as Dion’s “Runaround Sue,” Ray Charles’s version of “Georgia on My Mind,” Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” and Brian Hyland’s “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini.”
He also performed with the pop group the Three Suns, toured across Europe with Benny Goodman and collaborated with artists including Buddy Rich, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Wes Montgomery, Zoot Sims, Bud Freeman and French violinist Stéphane Grappelli, the former musical partner of his guitar idol Django Reinhardt.
But he was perhaps best known for his work in guitar duos, including with George Barnes, one of the first artists to record with an electric guitar. “Their duets are built on the contrast between the soft, dark sound of Mr. Pizzarelli’s thumb and finger plucking and Mr. Barnes’s use of a pick to produce high, tight phrases that dart and dazzle over his partner’s foundation lines,” New York Times jazz critic John S. Wilson wrote in 1970.
“They may be light and airy — a perfect soufflé of sound — and then go rollicking off through rapid-fire lines that wrap around each other, chase each other, join in unison and set up challenges of the musicians and the listening ear,” he added. “This is a brilliant and unique team.”
Mr. Pizzarelli and Barnes recorded a 1971 album, “Guitars Pure and Honest,” but within a year began “to detest one another,” according to a report from the New Yorker jazz critic Whitney Balliett, who witnessed a chaotic performance at the St. Regis Room in Manhattan that brought the musicians’ rivalry into public view.
“The guitarists’ swan set was played not on their instruments,” he wrote, “but on each other.”
Mr. Pizzarelli found far less drama while performing with members of his own family. His 1972 album, “Green Guitar Blues,” featured a duet with his 14-year-old daughter Mary, whom he trained on classical guitar. By the end of the decade he was performing with his son John, with whom he recorded albums such as “2 x 7 = Pizzarelli” (1980) and “Twogether” (2001), which featured duets of jazz standards.
In time, they also performed with Mr. Pizzarelli’s other son, bassist Martin Pizzarelli, and with John’s wife, singer Jessica Molaskey, forming a group that John Pizzarelli likened to “the von Trapp family on martinis.”
“I learned by sitting with him on the bandstand,” John Pizzarelli told TV interviewer Steve Adubato in 2013, accompanied by his father. “It was trial by fire. He would just play melodies and stare at me.” (“We don’t get mad,” Bucky Pizzarelli told the New York Times, “but we knock heads once in a while. I don’t interfere.”)
In a 2016 interview with Inside Jersey magazine, jazz guitarist Ed Laub, a onetime pupil of Mr. Pizzarelli’s, recalled a piece of advice from his former teacher: “If you’re planning on being a professional musician, you need to understand that your job is to always make the other guy as good as he can possibly sound. It’s not about you.”
For Mr. Pizzarelli, Laub said, “It’s about making beautiful music. It’s not about grandstanding.”
Mr. Pizzarelli was born John Pizzarelli on Jan. 9, 1926, in Paterson, N.J., where his childhood classmates included poet Allen Ginsberg. His parents owned a grocery store, and his father played the mandolin and nicknamed his only son Bucky, out of a love for cowboys and the American West that he had nurtured since working in Texas as a teenager.
His uncle Bobby Dominick was a banjo and guitar player who “looked like a million dollars every time I saw him,” Mr. Pizzarelli told George Cole, author of the Miles Davis history “The Last Miles.” “He had a suit, a new car and he was picking up 50 bucks a week on the road with all his bands. . . . When I saw that, I said, ‘That’s what I want to do.’ ”
Mr. Pizzarelli learned the basics of music during Sunday jam sessions that included Bobby and another uncle, Pete Dominick, as well as Joe Mooney, a blind Paterson jazz accordionist. Influenced by guitarists such as Reinhardt, Freddie Green and Charlie Christian, he went on to perform at weddings and dances before joining Monroe’s dance band at 17.
He was soon drafted into the Army and, at the close of World War II, served in Europe and the Philippines, where he “spent nine months doing nothing,” as he put it, aside from playing guitar. He returned home to spend five years with Monroe and join NBC.
Mr. Pizzarelli’s records included “The Red Door” (1998), a tribute to Sims, featuring Scott Hamilton on tenor sax; and “5 for Freddie” (2007), a tribute to Green with pianist John Bunch in the role of Count Basie, Green’s longtime musical collaborator.
At home in Saddle River, he presided over what one journalist described as “a living jukebox,” where Goodman dropped in to nap, Sims swam in the family pool, bassist Slam Stewart stayed over and impromptu performances broke out almost daily, with most family members taking part. Mr. Pizzarelli’s wife of 66 years, the former Ruth Litchult, did not play an instrument but “knows music and can say what’s good and bad,” her husband told the Times in 1973.
“I’m a critic mostly when he plays too long or when it’s time for dinner,” she said.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Anne Hymes of Orlando, Martin Pizzarelli of Saddle River and John and Mary Pizzarelli, both of Manhattan; a sister; and four grandchildren.
In recent years, Mr. Pizzarelli told Cole, the music scene had transformed, and the kind of playing he did in studio bands was all but nonexistent. “Guitar players — it’s mostly effects,” he said. “Guitars in the hands of these kids today are weapons!”
Still, he plowed ahead, playing dozens of club dates each year and maintaining the approach that had fueled his career for nearly eight decades. “Every day I get up and I try to correct what I screwed up the night before,” he said. “That’s my theory. I prepare for the next time. I’m playing mostly live dates now and that’s a big thrill, because that’s the ultimate — to be in front of people.”

NITA STRAUSS Rejoins ALICE COOPER On Stage In Colorado
Nita Strauss rejoined Alice Cooper on stage Tuesday night (October 4) during the legendary rocker's concert at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado.
The 35-year-old musician, who left Alice's touring band earlier this year to join the backing group of pop star Demi Lovato, came up during the encore of Cooper's set to play guitar on his classic song "School's Out".
After being introduced by Alice as "Her Majesty, Queen Of The Guitar", Nita took the stage alongside Cooper's three guitarists, including the returning Kane Roberts, who stepped back into the lineup following Nita's exit.
After last night's show, Nita shared a few photos of the performance on Twitter and included the following message: "Hurricane meets Hurri-Kane @Kane_Roberts
"Such a treat getting to not only see the amazing @alicecooper show from the audience for the first time, but hop up and join the boys for the encore last night. Thank you all for the warm welcome!"
She added in a separate tweet: "I had the best time!"
Nita, who spent eight years playing with Alice before joining Demi's band, was asked in a recent interview with Metal Injection if it was a "nerve-racking" experience telling the legendary rocker that she wanted to step back from performing with him. The guitarist responded: "I wouldn't even say nerve-racking, because… I mean, it was a big decision, of course, but it definitely wasn't as dramatic as it has seemed online, if that makes sense. We had just started the U.K. tour when I got the offer to come and play with Demi. And I just went into Coop's room — I went to his hotel room and I talked with him and his wife. And I said, 'Look, I have this opportunity.' He asked, 'Would it conflict with anything on this tour?' I said, 'No, but it would conflict with the fall dates, so I'd have to step back from the fall tour.' And he said, 'Go and do it.' He gave his blessing. He gave me a big hug and said, 'Go and have fun. Shine your light, and let us know what next year looks like and we'll work it out.' So it was a lovely and loving conversation — no big blowup; no drama; no one got fired; no one stormed out. And I took a step back and I'm trying something different. And we'll see what happens in the future."
According to Nita, "it didn't help" that the news of her joining Demi's touring band "got leaked before anybody had a chance to really say anything. I don't really know how that news got out, 'cause it was all pretty close to the vest," she said. "But somebody found out, somebody decided to put it out before anybody really could make a proper statement about it, and I think that's how these things get twisted around into something that it's not.
"We had a — Alice literally called it a 'hiatus dinner,'" Nita added. "One of our last shows in Greece, we had a couple of days off, and we had a big 'hiatus dinner' and we all laughed and cried and hugged and they gave me a little parting gift. And if that was the last show at the end of the tour, it'll be okay. But there was no big dramatic exit that people were speculating. And now that I'm clearing it up, there is also no backtracking. [Laughs] I think people just love to speculate without really knowing the actual workings of what's going on."
Nita played her first full live show with Demi on August 13 at the Grandstand at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Illinois.
Nita made her live debut with Demi on July 14 with a performance of "Substance" on ABC's Emmy Award-winning late-night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!".
Nita's new gig was first reported as a rumor on July 11 on the Metal Sludge web site.
Nita told Louder about how she ended up playing with Lovato: "So I actually got a text from Demi's musical director when I was on the road with my solo band on the BLACK LABEL SOCIETY tour, and essentially what it said was what we all know now: Demi is a huge rock and metal fan. And Demi wants to go back to her routes and wants to put together an all-female rock band. She's really one of the biggest stars in the world and she wants to take a step into our genre and this style of music that we love so much. When you get that text, that somebody wants to bring that type of music to the forefront, how do you say no? How do you turn down this opportunity to bring this style of music to so many more people? So I was thrilled to hear about it and I jumped at the opportunity. This was all way back in May. It's been in the works for a really long time."
She continued: "I've seen a lot of stuff out there saying, 'She jumped ship really fast'. There was nothing that happened fast, I think people just found out about it all at once. First and foremost, I went to Alice and [his wife] Sheryl for their blessing which they were so happy to give. Then I went to Alice's management and started rehearsal with Demi. I did my first TV appearance with Demi, I believe it was three days after the last Alice show, so it was really out of the frying pan and into the fire. But her team has been really fun to work with, the band is incredible, the musical director, Demi herself, it's just been a really good experience overall."
On July 11, Nita announced that she would sit out Cooper's fall 2022 tour. She has also scrapped the festival dates her solo band had planned for the rest of the year. The 35-year-old said in a statement that her "touring year" was "still VERY full" and revealed that she was "on a flight straight into the next adventure," adding cryptically that she would "be on stage again much sooner than you think."
A couple of Nita's Cooper bandmates commented on her post, with guitarist Ryan Roxie writing: "No words — just notes... and lord knows we harmonized a lot of them over the years... nothing but love and respect." Drummer Glen Sobel added: "You're super pro and prepared no matter what the situation. We're gonna miss you but we're also proud to be associated with Hurricane."

Brisbane Broncos and Newcastle Knights win NRWL matches in Townsville
Brisbane has one hand on a record fifth NRLW minor premiership after coming from behind to thump St George Illawarra 44-14 in Townsville. The final-round win sent the Broncos the the top of the championship ladder and importantly gave them a superior points differential over the second-placed Sydney Roosters, who must now beat Parramatta by more than 20 points on Sunday to overtake them. Meanwhile, the Knights trounced North Queensland 38-6 to all but set the top four in stone with two matches of the home-and-away season left to play. ABC Sport Daily podcast ABC Sport Daily is your daily sports conversation. We dive into the biggest story of the day and get you up to speed with everything else that’s making headlines. Brisbane found their minor premiership hopes slipping away after falling 10 points behind in the first 12 minutes after the Dragons came out firing on Saturday afternoon, with tries to Kimberley Hunt and Ella Koster. But the Broncos’ outside backs ran rampant as they scored 20 unanswered points to take the game away from the ninth-placed Dragons. Centres Mele Hufanga and Shenae Ciesiolka and wing pair Julia Robinson and Lauren Dam each ran for 100 metres or more with the ball in hand. Robinson and Ciesiolka scored two tries apiece, along with hooker Jada Ferguson, who showed why she was on Friday named Queensland Rugby League’s dummy-half of the year. Stream NRL live on ABC listen Stream every game of the 2024 NRL season live and ad free on the ABC listen app. The Grandstand Rugby League team brings you 100% Pure Footy. St George winger Maatuleio Fotu-Moala showed impeccable control to hang on to a high Teagan Berry cut-out pass and score in the corner after a juggle to narrow the margin to a converted try. But Hufanga bulldozed her way over as the Broncos scored four tries in 12 minutes. The New Zealand international had a late chance to set a team record for most points scored in a game, but she dropped the ball uncontested while attempting to ground it. If Brisbane hold on to the top spot, it will be their fifth minor premiership in seven seasons. Regardless, the Broncos will be confident they can go all the way after their seventh consecutive victory, although they will be sweating on the fitness of second-rower Romy Teitzel, who failed to return after limping off with a back injury at half-time. Women in Sport Spotlight We put the spotlight on women making a big impact on and off the field in the sporting world — from the grassroots through to the elite level. Newcastle also asserted their title credentials in the afternoon’s second game at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, with back-rower Yasmin Clydsdale powering the Knights momentarily into second place. Clydsdale scored the opening try and ran for a game-high 198m as the dominant Knights forward pack laid the foundations for a commanding win. Wingers Sheridan Gallagher and Tenika Willison both scored a brace, while Abigail Roache and Tayla Predebon also got their names on the scoreboard. The two-time reigning premiers will host a home semifinal, but only if the high-flying Roosters fail to beat the Eels. Parramatta have a mountain to climb to steal fourth spot off Cronulla, needing to defeat the Tricolours by 34 points or more. AAP Source link via The Novum Times

Brisbane Bandits (1989–98) Matthew Brannelly – Foundation Chairman
The Brisbane Bandits were a foundation team in the Australian Baseball League which was bought by a private owner and shut down in 1999. The Bandits have now been resurrected as a team in the new Australian Baseball League which is due to start in November 2010. The Bandits won the ABL Championship in 1994 and finished 2nd in 1997, going down to the Perth Heat in the championship series. The Bandits only competed in the first 9 ABL Championships, but had intentions of re-joining the ABL Championship in following Seasons.
The Brisbane Bandits were established in 1989 by co-founders Tom Nicholson and Vince Askey as a privately owned baseball franchise in the inaugural Australian Baseball League. Nicholson ran the entire franchise as the General Manager overseeing all operation of the Bandits. Askey, the Director of International Operations, forged relationships with Major League Clubs, starting with the San Diego Padres and later the New York Yankees. Askey also served as a television commentator for ABL games aired on the ABC Network. Both Askey and Nicholson also served as Directors on the ABL Board of Directors.
Tumblr media
Foundation Chairman of the Board was well known young business identity Matthew Brannelly who prior to this was the Founding President of the Brisbane Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Mike Young, ex Major League and Australian Team coach was the inaugural coach. Mike went on to be the Specialist Fielding Coach for the Australian Cricket Team.
In their initial season the Bandits were based at Lang Park. The rectangular field was well suited to rugby league and soccer but not baseball. To offset the short left field a 50 foot high wall was installed. In 1990, the team moved to the iconic Brisbane venue, the RNA Showgrounds ( or Brisbane Exhibition ). The lighting and circular field surrounded by historic grandstands provided a family friendly venue and is currently where the Brisbane Bandits in the new Australian Baseball League play. The team maintained this home venue till their championship winning 1993–94 Australian Baseball League season.
In the 1993/94 season the Bandits won the Championship series against the Sydney Blues. The Blues had finished the regular season as minor premiers and had home field advantage. This was not enough though as the Bandits won 2–0 to claim their only title.
From 1994 the Bandits changed homeground to QEII Stadium in the city's south eastern suburbs. This venue was originally built for the 1982 Commonwealth Games.
In the 1995–96 Australian Baseball League season the Bandits finished the regular season as minor premiers. This provided home field advantage for the first week of the playoffs. However they lost to the Waverly Reds.
In their last season, the Bandits played at Holloway Field, the place where the Claxton Shield team, Queensland Rams would play for the next decade. Due to a lack of a suitable venue the Bandits did not compete in the 1998–99 Australian Baseball League season. Many of their players transferred to the nearby franchise, the Gold Coast Cougars, who won the championship that season.
The original Bandits developed at least one Major League player. Cameron Cairncross, a left-handed starting pitcher, went on to play for the Cleveland Indians in 2000 as a relief pitcher.
The Bandits, as all teams in the ABL, had foreign imports each season. At least three of these went on to play in the Majors in the USA, including Tim Worrell and Homer Bush of the SD Padres, and Kevin Jordan who played for the Bandits while with the Yankees organization, but ended up play in MLB for the Philidalphia Phillies.
The Bandits were the only franchise in the ABL that maintained the original owners and leadership longer than any of the other ABL franchises.
