Eek! A day late for the letter Q for the @handletteredABCs 2018 challenge 😬. I struggle with the capital Q too. Clockwise ovals with shades on the right are definitely a weakness I need to work on. If you want to see recordings for each letter of this 'Italian' styled variant of the classic Engrosser's Roundhand script, I'll be posting them all to a playlist on my YouTube too: https://goo.gl/NEmRfQ. • • I'm doing the whole alphabet using one of my hand carved ergonomic nib holders with a leonardt principal ef nib in Higgins eternal ink on lined Rhodia paper. • • Italian is a vague term in this context that was often used by practitioners to denote a script intended to be paired with a more commonly styled one. It rarely indicates one way or the other whether the origin of the script is/was actually Italy. As a consequence there are numerous historical scripts labeled as 'Italian' that seem to have little visual relationship to each other. Letter Q for the @handletteredabcs challenge! Doing this challenge, I’ve learned a lot about how the different series of gouache affect pigment and transparency. In this one specifically, you can see that the yellow I used isn’t quite as opaque as the turquoise is. The yellow is a series 1 (lower quality), and the turquoise is more like a series 3 or 4 and goes onto paper much more smooth and even.
