For the last four years, I’ve been keeping a pretty basic bullet journal. It has been more of an outlet to create hand lettering than to actually bullet journal, but I’ve had so much fun with it! Every month, I try to make time to do a full hand-lettered spread for that month. Sometimes they're simple and sometimes they're more complex. Sometimes I don't ever finish and other times I don't even start! It's been a super fun and low-pressure way to keep drawing even when I get busy. I also love to keep track of what's going on in my life. When I was pregnant I added a section each week to talk about how I felt or how the baby was doing. Now that Griffy is here, I make a point to add a few fun new things he's doing or saying each week. I love looking back at where I was at that moment, even if it's just remembering how I felt or where I was when I drew the lettering for that month. I can't believe I've really been doing this for four years now! I'll try to take some photographs of my weekly pages to share. Hello tumblr!! It’s been a WHILE!

I’ve been randomly logging in to check out what’s happening on here because I got a huge kick out of tumblr’s Twitter account during the Twitter drama the last couple of months. I’m really loving all the work that illustrators are putting out! Soooo much talent.

I haven’t seen much for lettering artists, but maybe I just don’t know where to look! I’d love to connect with a lettering community on here!

I know the election is at the top of almost everyone else’s mind right now, but I figure we all need a little bit of an escape from the chaos. So I wanted to share some virtual lettering workshops that can hopefully help you wind down with some relaxing drawing! I’m teaching two hand lettering workshops this month! One is a beginning hand lettering workshop with the @smithsonianassociates Studio Arts Program starting this Thursday, Nov. 5 and an iPad lettering workshop with @uofulifelonglearning that starts next Wednesday, Nov. 11. They will both be virtual and once a week for 4 weeks. They are always so much fun and I find it so relaxing to have 2 hours of uninterrupted time to draw! This year I’ve been trying to keep up with a bullet journal / calendar and it’s a LOT of work, but so much fun! This is my lettering for the month of October. I also do a page for each week, so someday I’ll also have to share what those look like too. It’s just so satisfying to look back on! Also, drawing fall things is my favorite. Pumpkins always turn out so cute and plump with lettering! P.S. I’m working with the University of Utah’s Lifelong Learning program to plan a workshop on lettering for bullet journaling and I’m sooooo excited! Hi friends! Back again after another long stretch of not posting... but this time with a big update! @reidmccallum and I, along with the @theadventuredanes have moved (back) to Colorado after 5 years of living in Salt Lake City! Back in April, the airline that Reid was working for went under because of how the pandemic was impacting air travel. It’s is a scary time to try to find jobs as a pilot, but he was lucky enough to get an offer at a company that exclusively flies cargo between smaller airports. Thank goodness for everyone ordering things online during the pandemic! This meant he would fly between Hayden, CO and Casper, WY. We were really excited to find out that Hayden is about 25 minutes from Steamboat Springs, CO! We’re avid lovers of all things that comes with living in a mountain town, so he jumped on the opportunity. After a couple of months of training, home searching and back and forth trips between UT and CO, we packed up the last week of September and made the big move to Steamboat. We’re incredibly sad to leave family and friends in Salt Lake City. We had such an amazing group of people that will be lifelong friendships I’m so grateful to know them all. But we’re also really excited for this new adventure. The Danes are adjusting well so far and we’re loving the crisp mountain air and autumn leaves. Holy moly friends. I am feeling so many warm and fuzzies and encouragement after all the comments and love on my "confidence" drawing. It's so wonderful to get so much positive feedback after being in my head for so long. You all are SO wonderful, and I feel so grateful that there are so many amazing people in my life to help keep me on the positivity train. I obviously have been thinking a LOT about creativity and sharing artwork, so here's another work in progress related to encouraging myself and my fellow creative friends to share your work with the world. Being an artist and creator is a funny thing. When I did this drawing a few months ago, I thought it was awesome. Big bold text and the letters fit together pretty well...but now, several months later, I see sooo many imperfections and just want to fix things about it. This is honestly a real lesson in confidence and the exact reason why I haven't posted in months. I do a drawing and then proceed to spend too much time online comparing my artwork to other artists. By the time I want to post it, I feel like it's not good enough and no one will like it or even care. What I really should be thinking is that THIS IS ALL FOR FUN. I don't make my full income doing lettering, and no one pays me for 99% of what I post. I just do it for the joy of sharing pretty things with the rest of the world. Sorry for a long caption, but I'm really just trying to remind myself to draw and share for my wonderful friends and family on IG. Hi friends! I’m back after a VERY quiet past few months! As we all know, things have been crazy and the world has changed so much in such a short time. I honestly was feeling super burnt out on trying to create perfectly Instagram-able art, and that combined with a pandemic and all of BLM conversations made me want to take a step back from posting. Sometimes when people are using these social platforms for voicing important ideas and perspectives, it feels wrong to add to the noise with random day-to-day chatter. So I’m coming back with hopes of joining back in with the mindset of being a supportive contributor to the lettering community!! That being said, I really have missed sharing work here! Taking a step back has been so great for me. I’ve finally started feeling extra inspired to draw after realizing that I can just make things for family and friends. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately! I’ve been trying to come up with things to draw that I think people will like on Instagram, but that honestly gets exhausting. Sometimes I just want to sit down and draw for the sake of drawing! This little guy isn’t perfect or fancy or pushing me as a lettering artist, but it was easy and relaxing to create. I share a lot of totally finished drawings here, so I wanted to post something that’s more of a work in progress. This is a little drawing I was working on for fun the other day in honor of my two very cute Great Danes (or great pains as we call them). Super excited to share one of my favorite signs I’ve ever got to make! This little guy is one of a big group of food menu signs made for @hopkinsbrewingco! They’re working with the amazing @saltlakeletteringclub to hand letter all of their beer and food signs! This has been such a fun project to be part of and this restaurant is literally one of my favs in sugarhouse. I was especially excited to get to do the sign for my absolute favorite thing on their menu, buffalo cauliflower! GUYS. This is literally the best buffalo cauliflower around. Seriously, go try it! I’ve had such a hard time coming up with a phrase or words to letter lately. I’ve tried searching Pinterest for quotes (all annoyingly cheesy, unfortunately) and attempted to come up with things on my own, but nothing sticks. It’s such a weird thing, because all I want to do is draw, but I can never think of content that feels right. So this is my attempt at just getting something out there and along with some inspiration to myself to get over it and just draw. Creating something dumb is better than not creating at all!
