one year ago today i was in paris @ accor arena and am were about to come on stage marking the very first time i saw them live 💔 i genuinely get so emotional every time i think back to that night and to my lil paris trip. i miss them so much

Hello! The LATAM dates anon is me. Ahh sorry I gave you a bit of a chaotic ask! I’m not sure if LATAM really isn’t selling well - Lou’s Mexico dates look sold out - but I read stuff on Twitter via various fan accounts that made it seem as though sales in some countries were slow and they were really trying to drum up sales by giving tickets away etc. I also saw a couple of other tumblr blogs mentioning poor sales but I realise now these accounts are kind of ‘Louis hate accounts’ (urghh) and they’ll say anything to put him down.

I guess I just wondered if you’d read anything different about LATAM? I want it to be amazing for him. He’s such a gem and I really want him to do have great shows out there.

Alrighty, let’s look at LATAM ticket sales. Anon, welcome to the show.

Let’s look at some tickets available, capacities, and then I’ll chat more about venue modes and draping etc for some more context.

So, the best selling show in LATAM looks to be Arena VFG, in Guadalajara, Mexico. I’ve had a bit of a look online, and it looks like the show is entirely sold out. That has a capacity of 15,000 , and looks full concert mode, but that doesn’t mean he will have use of all 15,000. The capacity would prooooobably look more like 11,000 - 12,000ish, as an estimate. I haven’t been to the venue so I can’t be 100% on that, but they’re not selling 15,000 tickets to it. We’ll circle back to this later.

Then, his show at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, is a race track used for Formula 1 events, music festivals, and stuff like that. It’s said to have a capacity of 110,000, but of course would be a reduced mode due to the fact that well… that’s pretty impossible for any artist to sell out. Hell, TS’s biggest concert ever was 96,000 people at the MCG in Melbourne, Australia in 2024. Ed Sheeran did 109,500 people in one night at the MCG in 2023. Harry’s biggest show in Australia for LOT was 69,512 people at Accor Stadium in Sydney, which for both show nights, had a capacity of 70,170 people (the first night sold 66,791).

Louis’ show at Arena 1 in Lima, Peru, has a promotion on until the 15 Match 2024 for 25% off certain tickets (the promotion started on 2 November 2023). It can hold up to 16,000 people, and by the looks of it is mainly used for concerts, not sporting events. So they could be selling an amount of tickets that’s closer to their actual capacity, as opposed to the other venues. Again, I haven’t been to it so I can’t be sure. The discount on these tickets, however, is only for people using payments of “Credit, Debit, Business, and Working Capital Cards”. We see similar promos with other artists, such as MasterCard pre sales, American Express presales, etc., but I haven’t seen discounted tickets like this for other artists off the top of my head. However…

I looked at Louis’ 1st June 2022 show at Arena Peru Explanada in Lima, Peru, and according to Team Louis News on Twitter, it sold out. They said it has a capacity of 15,000 people, but again, doesn’t mean every seat was utilised, but it doesn’t look like it’s used for sport, so they could’ve gotten close. And, funnily enough, at this arena and show, there was a 15% discount if you paid with an Interbank Credit or Debit card.

A lot of stadiums are owned/sponsored by banks, or insurance companies, or these companies may have a large share of profit for the money they invest in it etc., and it’s a great way of advertising. Signing up for a bank for discounts of tickets at their venue(s)??? Yes please. So, you can see the appeal. And I can 100% guarantee you that this is a partnership and a condition of said bank investing in the stadium. A quick look at their other shows, every artist (Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony, Paramore etc.) has a special discount based on if they used that bank’s cards to pay for tickets. So it’s not “oh louis could NEVER sell enough tickets, he’s a flop” and whatever these losers say, it’s that certain arenas (clearly more prominent in LATAM) will have discounts on tickets due to the partnership with the bank that invests in them.

let’s circle back to capacities. this frustrates me to no end because people throw these numbers around all the time and it just… that’s just not how it works.

You can find a capacity of a venue pretty easily when you google said venue, and often people go “oh wow, this artist is playing a venue that holds 100,000 people!!!!” which is yeah, you’re right, that venue does hold 100,000 people, but that depends entirely on the mode, stage setup, and how big the artist is. Also, if it’s used as a sports stadium as well, it’s gonna hold a hell of a lot more people than a concert mode, because they can utilise every seat. You can’t just sit behind the stage at a concert, but you can sit anywhere during a football match. So that’s a major difference in ticket sales already.

If you’re someone like Harry, who has a big old T catwalk and a larger built out base/main stage, that’s gonna lower the capacity of the venue. So then they make more of it GA on the ground as opposed to seating, to make the capacity higher again. But he plays stadiums, which are used for sport, and so he’s not utilising the whole capacity as it is.

BUT Ed Sheeran did the thing.

At the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground, used for cricket and AFL etc.), Ed Sheeran sold sooooo many more tickets than TS, because he had a 360 rotating stage in the middle of the stadium. SUCH a good idea, but that doesn’t work for an artist like TS or Harry. They perform and run up and down cat walks and dance and flail about, Ed Sheeran doesn’t. So, yep, the stage setup can seriously affect the capacity.

Then, estimated ticket sales. Louis sold out his last time in Peru, at a different arena, but it’s pretty safe to say he’ll sell out this one too (hopefully). But, that arena last year might not have been utilised at 15,000. So it’s a bit of guess work too, and finding out what he sold last year (which is easy if the same promoter is hosting but idk I haven’t looked that deep in hahaha but I’d say it’s the same one still).

And when tickets go on sale, they’ll release a certain amount (obviously smaller amounts in pre sales to see how it’s selling), but the ticket website doesn’t tell you how many tickets are left. Why would they? That defeats the purpose of trying to tell people that they might miss out. If the website says there is 10,000 tickets left, you’ll wait til closer to the time to buy one because you’re not worried. But, that skews ticket sales and a show can be cancelled over that, which is happening a fair bit at the moment with ticket reselling websites that aren’t authorised by the venue. I can go into ticketing and ticket reselling further if you’d like but yeah… best we stay on topic.

So, if a show sells enough to at least make a small profit, but isnt sold out regardless of capacity size, the promoter will often put a thing called “drapes” over a certain amount of seating to the side of the stage. These are just big black curtains that cover those seats to make it look more full. It’s what you’d call a “reduced mode”. And, that’s also a way they can use bigger venues if an artist won’t quite sell it out, but they’re too big for a smaller scale show and either don’t wanna do a couple of nights in a row or the smaller venue is super booked out etc. And, artists can sell out a reduced mode, which is great PR for them.

Anyway, there are a million variables that happen with shows. But, capacity does not equal ticket sales, discounts at venues does not equal the size of the artist, and I’m sure Louis is gonna do great in LATAM. I’ve seen so many people excited!!!

New video posted to social media caught French President Emmanuel Macron enjoying the Elton John concert in Paris on Thursday while the city and the country witnessed another night of violent protests over a fatal police shooting. 

The video, shot at the Accor Arena where Elton John played for three nights as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, showed Macron tapping his foot and smiling while listening to the hit song “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.”

The star had also played “Burning Down the Mission,” according to the Independent, around the same time that Paris itself was burning in some quarters.

The tour played at the same time that protests broke out across the city following the death of 17-year-old identified only as Nahel during a traffic stop on Tuesday. Video of the incident shocked the country and caused an uproar in housing projects and other poorer neighborhoods.

Over the following three days, police arrested hundreds while also suffering many injuries to their officers – all while Macron and his wife, Brigitte, enjoyed the concert.

Opposition ministers, such as Thierry Mariani of National Rally, called Macron “totally irresponsible” and noted that “while France was on fire, Macron preferred to applaud Elton John.”

Ministers met Thursday and decided to quadruple the police presence in Nanterre, where the shooting occurred, flooding the streets with 45,000 officers in what Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin called an “extremely firm” response to the “professionals of disorder.” 

The police officer who fired the fatal shot has been charged with voluntary homicide after an initial investigation led local prosecutor Pascal Prache to conclude that “the conditions for the legal use of the weapon were not met.”

Rioters shot fireworks and threw stones at police officers, who responded with volleys of tear gas. The violence spread to other towns and cities over the week, with rioters setting fire to schools, police stations, town halls and other public buildings.

Protesters held a peaceful march Thursday afternoon, but after sunset unrest gripped the country as the demonstrators erected barricades, lit vehicles on fire and continued to clash with police in various towns.  

Darmanin said that 170 officers had been injured in the unrest, but none had sustained life-threatening injuries, The Telegraph reported. That number rose to 200 over Thursday night, with 667 people arrested on Thursday night alone, Darmanin said Friday. Roughly 300 of the arrests occurred in Paris.

On Thursday, following the emergency meeting, Macron called the clashes “absolutely unjustifiable.” 

“The last few hours have been marked by scenes of violence against police stations, but also schools and town halls … against institutions and the Republic,” Macron told ministers.

Secretary-General of Unite SGP Police FO union Grégory Joron claimed that the police “haven’t seen such urban violence in 18 years in so many cities around France.”

Tickets for ATEEZ's 2022 World Tour 'The Fellowship: Beginning of the End' Immediately Sold Out

On November 19 KST, media outlets reported that ATEEZ's upcoming 2022 world tour titled "The Fellowship: Beginning of the End," had begun selling tickets for their concert tours in 12 cities.

Immediately after the sales went live, the tickets for 10 cities in the United States and Europe, excluding Seoul and Paris, were already sold out by November 18 at 11pm KST. This proved ATEEZ's ever-growing popularity and capability to have sold out concerts.

In particular, around 54,000 fans in the United Kingdom had gathered simultaneously on the ticket sales site. With the demand high, many have also put their tickets up for re-sell and selling it for a high price.

Regarding the sold out tickets, an official from ATEEZ's agency KQ Entertainment said, "We have realized the warm response from global fans who have been waiting to meet ATEEZ. In order to repay the stay love and interest fans have shown to the group, not only ATEEZ, but all of the staff will do their best to prepare the world tour."

ATEEZ will begin their 2022 world tour "The Fellowship: Beginning of the End" with a three-night concert at the Olympic Hall in Seoul on January 7, 8, and 9.

Following their concerts in Seoul, ATEEZ will begin their American-leg in Chicago at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on January 18; followed by Atlanta at the Gas South Arena on January 20; in Newark at the Prudential Center on January 24; in Dallas at the Texas Trust CU Theatre at the Grand Prairie on January 27; and capping off the United States with a concert in Los Angeles at The Forum on January 30.

ATEEZ will begin their Europe-leg in February, with a concert in Amsterdam at the AFAS LIVE on February 13. They will also be coming to London and performing at the SSE Arena, Wembley on February 15; in Paris at the Accor Arena on February 20; in Berlin at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on February 22; in Warsaw at Torwar on February 24; and finally in Madrid at the Palacio Vistalegre in Madrid on March 1. 

ATEEZ's Latest Concerts

Meanwhile, ATEEZ recently concluded their online concert "ATEEZ XR Show [FEVER: eXtended edition]" back on November 14.

"The Fellowship: Beginning of the End" will also be ATEEZ's first world tour in over a year, after cancelling their 2020 world tour "The Fellowship: Map the Treasure" due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to that, during ATEEZ's "The Expedition Tour" in 2019, the had sold out tickets in 10 cities in Europe and five cities in North America.

OUR PARIS TRIP: 2017  

As a 21st birthday present my boyfriend Scott took me to Paris for a 4 night city break. Paris has always been on my bucket-list of places to visit, so you can imagine the tears and excitement when I opened my birthday card to the surprise. 

My birthday was in January and our trip was booked for April (and its look this long to write a blog post on it) so we didn’t have too long to wait for the trip. 

We has plenty to do while in Paris: sight see the tourist attractions, celebrate my belated birthday, go to Disneyland, we seen Ed Sheeran in concert, we went to a PSG football game and me and Scott celebrated our 5 year anniversary while there too. 

SIGHT-SEEING

Of course it would not be a Paris trip if we didn’t visit the Eiffel Tower at least once. Our hotel was very central to the Eiffel tower, a short 10 min walk or a stop away on the metro;

side note: I would highly recommend getting a travel card, we used Navigo passes, for the trains and metro. We bought ours in Charles De Gaulle airport at a help desk, which cost less an 25Euros each- saving us at least 100Euros worth of travel each during our stay. Its a unlimited use card but be careful of the expiry as they can only be used during certain days, so best to Google or ask before buying, but they worked great for us. All you need is a passport style picture to use on your card or you can use the booths in the airport- very simple, almost everyone has one, so someone would know what you’re talking about if you had to ask for any help with it.

The Eiffel Tower- a beautiful sight during the day and at night. As an anniversary date me and Scott toured the tower at night-time, which I would recommend for the view alone. It cost us 14Euro each as they have an under 25 deal which got us a discount. The flashing lights come on every hour and last around 5 minutes, which gave me just enough time for the perfect Boomerang and Instagram picture #tourist. 

As the night-time tours tend to be more popular even at 10pm the queue was wrapped around itself as people waited to buy tickets and use the lifts that take you to the three levels. A cheaper ticket option is to use the stairs instead of the lift (only lets you to the first floor though) with over 1,710 stairs, for the extra one or two Euros i’d take the lift unless you’re into that kinda fitness or don’t want to visit the middle and top levels. I would highly recommend if you’re not afraid of heights or glass lifts. 

ED SHEERAN 

 It was either a lucky coincidence or a sign from Ed himself that the night we would arrive in Paris, Ed Sheeran would be playing the  Accor Hotels Arena during his Divide Tour. Two standing tickets cost us under 100Euro, so I would consider that reasonable to see one of our fav artist in a beautiful city. Scott and myself have seen Ed play before and seeing him again in Paris was an unforgettable experience. He never fails to deliver and the crowd atmosphere was amazing, if given the chance I would do it again. 

Only mistake we made is that we waited for what felt like hours in a queue to be told when we got to the doors we were standing in the seated queue and that we should have been in the standing queue that whole time- putting that one down to different procedures from back home going to gigs and everyone standing in the one queue and a slight language barrier as our ticket was in French, oops. Aside from that small mishap, an amazing night. 

DISNEYLAND PARIS

Disneyland Paris was one of my favourite things we did while in Paris. We bought our tickets online prior to going on a website called Travel Republic, which was recommended to me for buying attraction tickets from a work colleague who had used the website before. The site is legit and easy to use so would also recommend using to buy tickets.

Disneyland is definitely a whole day trip, meaning its hard to fit all of the rides, shows, sights etc into the one visit. I would recommend taking advantage of the free fast past system they offer for the bigger attractions. You simply go to the rides that are included, go to the fast pass machine and scan your ticket for a small coupon type ticket to come out with a time to return to the ride. This means you don’t have to wait in the standard queue to ride, instead come back at the allocated time frame and wait in the fast pass line- the wait is cut down from being up to 1 hour in the standard queue to 10 minutes in the fast lane. But of course there is a catch- you can only get one (or maybe two) fast pass tickets at a time, meaning you have to either ride the ride first and then collect a new one or wait for the time on the bottom of your ticket to tell you when you are eligible to collect a new fast pass. Simple enough and even with the one per person its a good way to find time to go eat in the many restaurants as you wait or a good way to explore the park to pass time.

The food offered in the park varies in prices and quality depending on what location you choose to eat in. We downloaded the official Disneyland Paris app which showed you all the restaurants with their prices points, the style of food and the operating hours (the app requires data to use so not very good as the park has no public wifi- however Scott had 3G as his data plan is covered in Europe, which was a great help, although there is paper copies of maps and you could always ask for help if needed.) The food can be expensive depending on your taste so bare that in mind when planning a trip, however anything can be done on a budget if need be. 

If you can, stay for the street parade show. At 5pm the Disney Princesses and characters paraded down the main street in their costumes and fancy floats, making for a great show. They sing, dance, act and wave to the crowd. People of all ages gather to watch the shows, so its something for everyone, not just people with younger kids. It is worth the watch and its on for no longer than 1 hour- so it doesn’t take up too much time.

We used our Navigo passes to get us to the park and back again, there is a train station within the park so that was very handy and saved us money and time as well. 

PSG GAME

Scott being a football fan wanted us to go support the PSG team and go enjoy a game of football. It’s very clear the crowd love their football team as everyone was chanting and cheering every chance they got. I’m not the biggest football fan so I was glad the stadium had free wifi to keep me occupied while Scott enjoyed the game. Overall was a good experience and it was good knowing Scott enjoyed himself, he got a PSG scarf on the way out and we made our way back to our hotel, using the train/metro and our Navigo passes. 

OVERALL 

Paris is a beautiful city and a great place to visit, it was always on my to go list for a reason so i’m very glad I got to experience it for myself with someone I love- I would go back in a heart beat. I cant thank my boyfriend enough for giving me such an amazing holiday and allowing us to experience such a great place together, making new memories #cheesy.
