I spent a couple of hours with her on FaceTime, shut away in her room for “just us” time. I mostly listened to her imagination & her tiny voice, which so delights me. She put on her purple crown & I asked if she was Princess Cecily. She wasn’t. She was “actually Tinkerbell .” Hmmm, says I. Doesn’t TINKERBELL wear green? “she’s home with the other fairies.” I see. “Actually,” she says...all four years of her, “I’m the Tooth Fairy.” You know, says I, I’ve always wondered what you do with all those teeth you collect. “Oh,” she says in her tiny voice, “I magically put them back in their mouths, they hide for a while, & then they grow up to be the big teeth.” You have just had the mystery explained. One of the conversations I had this summer was with a young felter who shared that she had made pumpkins in various colors. Black and purple were obviously for Halloween but then other colors she made were for fun. She said that when she played, in her world pumpkins were different colors. I love that. It’s much harder for adults to deviate from how things should be, whereas children’s imaginary worlds don’t have the constraints. With an idea of getting away from the norm, I made a handful of pumpkins in various colors this weekend. They are stuffed with sheep wool and finished with a felted stem and scraps of felted (read “shrunken”) sweaters that I’ve been collecting for years for other projects. I placed them in front of a closed door for the photo to throw some symbolism in there. 😉 Feel free to share thoughts about your creative process. Is it natural for you to deviate from the ordinary? Этим летом на рынке я разговорилась с 9-летней девочкой, которая тоже занимается валянием. Она увидела мои тыквы и рассказала, что много сваляла тыкв разных цветов. Чёрных и фиолетовых на Хэллуин, но также других цветов. Она сказала, что когда играет, в ее игровом мирке тыквы разноцветные. Какая прелесть! К сожалению для взрослых не легко отклонится от традиционного постулата «как вещи должны быть» в жизни, а в детском мире таких ограничений нет. Идея разноцветных тыкв посетила меня в эти выходные, и я настрочила (вручную) эти тыквочки из подсевших свитеров, которые я уже несколько лет собираю для других проектов. Тыквочки начинены овечьей шерстью и «закутанны» в лоскутки свитеров, с ножкой из войлока. Посадила �� эти тыквы для фото на ступеньки дома у входа с закрытой дверью, чтобы добавить немножко символизма. Поделитесь своими мыслями по поводу вашего креативного процесса.
