hijacking the porter robinson tag
if any of y'all just came off that "world's live high" and are looking for more music in the same vein, i've come to share someone with you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is acloudyskye, a gem of the url scene music community
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for years, skye has nurtured a style that combines post-rock and future-bass influences to really evoke something raw within the heart. short musical stories encapsulating senses of awe, rage, kinship, and humanity.
Tumblr media
i have seen very little talk about skye on here and i want to change that. he's an incredibly talented artist and producer with music, visuals, characters, and world building, that set him apart from a lot of other emerging names online. bringing a little bit of something for everyone as his style has slowly evolved harder towards rock with little tinges of ambient and psychedelic rock in there as well.
youtube
a few years back, skye participated in skyward 2021. skyward is part of the porter robinson discord's events, if that tells you anything about what you're in for. definitely worth checking out if you have a few minutes!
Tumblr media
if you've got more than a few minutes, check out the quintessential Blood Rushing Like Current Through a Power Line on Spotify or Bandcamp. it only gets better from there :) thank you for the read!
i may be a bit biased, but i think it's all good lol

simple little line rider track made on a patron's request, I got kind of into it and it became a slightly larger project than I had thought it would

I have found an artist to ramble about to the internet :)
FYI- I have no formal musical knowledge, so don't expect.. that
acloudyskye - What do you want!
Shoutout to beat saber for making me discover this artist.
Ok, so, ramble time. I fucking love their music, esp the music on this album. I think it's super unique in how the songs are structured, and it's done really well. The whole album is amazing, but I'm going to be focusing on my three favorite songs. (Safety!, Dormant, and Thief!)
Safety!
This song. Oh, this song. It's a long one, coming in at 10:38, but it uses those 10 1/2 minutes well. This one song manages to throw itself across like three genres and does it well. From the dark and basey middle part, to a lighter, more upbeat part, to the acoustic part following that, it transitions so well.
Dormant
This song is so fucking cool in its own way. I view it as being super ambient, and it does that well. It slowly builds an intense and somewhat unsettling build throughout the 3 minutes that just keeps building, getting bigger and bigger, until the end where it just ends. It feels incredibly unsettling to me, almost like a darker and more distorted version of the end dimension music in minecraft. I also fucking love the transition into Overthrower.
Thief!
My favorite song on the album. This comes in as the longest song, at 12:43. It builds upon what Safety did in terms of exploring various genres in the same song. It starts off as this almost movie like violin piece, before transitioning into more electric music. I also love how this song does its drops. While I LOVE songs that save all the energy for the end, this song does amazing without it. Each drop feels incredibly powerful, from the one around a third of the song in to the one towards the end. The drums used throughout are so strong, and make the song more intense because of it. My last big thing about this song is the reverby guitar (?) part towards the end. I have no clue why, but this part scratches my head in particular. It feels almost nostalgic to me and I love it.
Honorable mention: Farewell is such a good end to the album, esp with how it contrasts with Thief!
Anyway, ramble over. I really love this album, and it scratched the ADHD just right to make me write this. Now go listen to it if you haven't 🔫🔫🔫 (shoutout to macos for putting gun emojis throughout this post) :)

There Must Be Something Here, acloudyskye (2024)
Tumblr media
At its best, this is modern shoegaze teeming with textural experiments, exactly as the genre should be, plus some undeniably skilled hook-writing. At its worst, it’s the chartification of the same genre, the polished, platitudinal vocals mismatched with any points of interest relegated to background.
Pick: ‘Surface’

And when I'm all done I'll cut the lights Lock the door shut And go outside
Down by the forest Near the powerlines Down that dirt road There's a place to hide
And if it gets better It's taking forever And what's with this weather? It's not getting better
