When I'm not painting I'm crafting up these little beasts! Palm-sized wanderers made from acrylic wool and recycled treasures...
(then I put em over on this shop <3)

I'm not done yet but this lil' guy kept me sane over the past week.
He's very cute.
But a little cold still so I'm currently working on the coat.

As someone who doesn’t knit or crochet much with normal-weight yarn (I do a lot of lace crochet with thread), I find it really interesting how there are two prominent and completely different views on what the best yarn type is.
There’s the people who love wool. You gotta love wool. It’s waterproof, it’s wonderful, it’s from a sheep (usually? I think? Is it called something else if it’s from other animals? Alpaca wool is a thing, right?). You can also easily spin and dye wool yourself, making it all the more wonderful and sustainable. Why have plastic yarn if you can make it from sheep hair? Sheep will always have hair to give.
And then, there’s the people who love synthetics. Why not? They make wonderful socks, and they’re decently sturdy. They can even be stretchy, too! With synthetics, you can get so many different vibrant colours, and the yarn can be uncannily uniform. Also, who has the time to hand wash everything nowadays? You can just toss it in the washing machine, if it’s synthetic. Why would you want expensive and potentially scratchy wool?
Alas, this is just what I’ve heard, for I sit in the middle with my piles of mercerized cotton thread.
(A little disclaimer on synthetics: they’re all different. This is not a care guide, please don’t destroy your socks)

I’m so pleased with how my painting turned out, it was a collaboration between me and my cats.
I feel like I was able to portray the movement, or lack of movement between the cats.
Ponyo is asleep as per usual, and loona is playing and chasing a ball of yarn.

That thing about "learning fibre arts is a trap because you will end up getting into spinning and dyeing your own yarn" is true but only because I die a little at the cost of decent yarns. Wool comes from sheep, for free! If I had room for a spindle in my room you would never see me again.

When yarn care instructions say "hand wash only, lay flat to dry" they mean it :'3

[Image description: four crochet swatches made of the same mauve yarn. They are made of back-loop half double crochet and an alpine stitches. The left two swatches are distinct, with clear stitch definition. The other two are shrunk and felted into indistinct lumps of wool. End description]

A compilation of bees over the years ft my hand in my Cas cosplay and some queer ones we gave out at Crossroads 3. We wil have normal bees stocked consistently but the pride ones are typically made on request and the fluffy ones aren't too common for us to make so it'd be best to ask if you desperately wanted one that way. Sometimes we will also make different kinds of bees like ones with orange black and white markings. - Made by M, posted by S

You know those reviews that are like "this recipe sucked!! I tried to make a carrot cake but I replaced the carrots with watermelon, the flour with powdered sugar, and the salt with shavings from a rock I found outside! And it didn't work! The recipe SUCKS!!"
Fiber crafts is like that too.
"your pattern was bad. My sock didn't fit and didn't hold it's shape." You replaced the sock weight nylon yarn with bulky acrylic yarn and used needles 4 times bigger! It's not going to work!
Yarn suggestions for a pattern are not just a way for people to shill yarn or brag about using ~fancy~ yarn. If a pattern suggests wool you likely want to use wool. Not acrylic, not cotton, not silk. The fibers have different qualities and effects!
There are some replacements that work or some projects where replacements don't really matter, just like with cooking. You CAN replace eggs with something else in something's but maybe not an omelette. Or at least if you do don't expect it to come out like a regular egg omelette???
It's not elitist to say that what you're using isn't going to work for some projects!

acrylic fiber and polyester my beloathed.... when are we gonna start seeing bans on plastic in clothes? I can't stand them. like ok maybe for waterproof clothes plastic is necessary, but T-shirts and sweaters do NOT need plastic when we have cotton, bamboo, wool, linen, even viscose. and so much more sustainable textile material

it is interesting to see people claim to have this seething, dark rage over like.. acrylic yarn being mislabeled as ‘vegan’, but never complain that virtually every other piece of clothing we (and they themselves) own features polyester, spandex, lycra, or another synthetic material thats just plastic. the only alternatives they seem to accept: wool, leather etc, are often blended with non-biodegradable plastics or processed with synthetic chemicals for affordability, or durability. and that’s before we even discuss the ipcc’s recommendations regarding animal agriculture, or the ever expanding list of plant material alternatives. it just seems as if they dislike vegans more than they enjoy clean air and water
