I just had a nightmare so bad it made me call in sick to work. (I am also actualfacts sick but it's just a stomach bug, not so bad it would keep me from working otherwise.)

It was so banal, too, is the thing -- no monsters, no body horror* or things chasing me or the deaths of loved ones. It was just...I came home from going out somewhere and my home wasn't my home anymore. The address was right, the building looked right, the front door was my front door, my key worked, but the unit inside wasn't my unit, was furnished differently and none of my stuff was there and two people I'd never met were living there.

They had just moved in, they said, and they weren't mad even, just as dumbfounded as I was. They clearly believed me and wanted to help but had no answers.

Where was my stuff? Where were my cats? I didn't even have any money, I didn't know who to ask about the situation. I was confused at first but then started to panic, and as I left to try and find...help, or an explanation, or maybe my REAL home, the building started to become unrecognizable as well. Was I delusional? Where did I really live? Did I even have a home?

It felt so unbelievably real. Usually in bad dreams I'm at least partially cognizant it's a dream. It's why I rarely find nightmares all that scary, because it's like seeing a horror movie on TV. Not really happening. This very much felt like it was really happening. I've never been so relieved to wake up in my own bed with Polk asleep on my chest.

I have no idea what it means either psychologically or metaphysically. I own my home, and I've never been in serious peril of being unable to pay rent or mortgage. While I do have a deep fear of becoming homeless it's not usually front of mind, like it's not something I dwell on. I've never had a dream like that before. It's actually comforting to imagine I just slipped into an alternate universe briefly. At least that means it's not likely to happen again.

Thinking about the political and religious effects of your In the Presence of Angels fic - Martin Luther only nailed his 95 thesis' in 1517. 17 years after, as far as most of the Christian world is concerned (provided they find out about it) an actualfact Angel showed up and scorned the CURRENT POPES SON to protect a town of 'thieves and murderers and whores'. I do not have nearly the background in renaissance religion and the church and the start of protestantism to know how that would effect things, but unless it gets COMPLETELY covered up I can't imagine it wouldn't.

Yeeah the whole thing would massively affect the course of history OR it would have to be covered up completely. Though considering all the saints and all the stories about divine revelations that's have happened in the course of Christian history, maybe it wouldn't affect history that much, given that it was temporary thing.

Now, imagine if Desmond just... stuck around. Not for months or even years, but centuries. Supposedly a living breathing angel chilling in this one little fortress that's not really even part of any city-state or nation currently. All the way from renaissance through age of piracy and sail and Victoria era all the way to modern times - now that would make some major changes.

solution to the 'is harding a redhead' dilemma: this is a subjective taxonomy and people (like myself) from regions without a demographically significant amount of redheads around them will categorize auburn as 'red'. courtesy: someone who moved from an area where auburn counts as red to an area with Actualfacts (tm) redheaded and strawberry-blond people and had a 'wtf' moment about it. ((sort of jealous of the people I've seen with the strawberry blond-orange freckles-turquoise eyes combination. would have assumed mary sue character design but no))

Just in case anyone is specifically following this sideblog for its random bursts of The Terror content.  I have just listened. It is good. They don’t clearly answer the question of why we love this story and keep coming back to it, but maybe that’s because a Srs National Broadcaster feels too embarrassed to roll around in The Feelings.

You know how something Really Racist gets put into a creative work and it’s super clear that it’s sheer ignorance on their part and you think to yourself, “hang on, did NO ONE mention that this is Super Racist??? Not a SINGLE person in the whole company???”

yeah, well I have spent the last SIX MONTHS repeatedly having the argument that something in our plan for our next book at work is Super Racist in an Orientalist flavor—which, like, I spent EIGHT YEARS on a dissertation SPECIFICALLY about how white people do things that are Super Racist in a specifically Orientalist flavor in their creative works without specifically meaning to and just basically outlining how Not To Do That and then, yes, I was given a phd in the subject because THAT’S WHAT I KNOW THE MOST ABOUT IN THE WHOLE WORLD. I’m like the movie Lucy where you don’t use 90% of your brain except it’s because 90% of my brain is permanently devoted to obscure facts about how white people Do That in fiction and ways they could just Not Do That.
