Author’s Note: As some of you may know, I don’t really self-insert with my MCs, but I usually share one or two traits with them. Well, Jessica Parker and I share a love of football passed down from our fathers. Since she comes from Iowa, and they don’t have a NFL team there, she had three real options for her team pulling from the surrounding area - the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears, and the Minnesota Vikings. Naturally, I selected my own love, the Vikings, for her.

This is written for my Choices Big Game Blitz event. It doesn’t feature the Superbowl, but it does feature one of the more exciting playoff games in recent history.

Seth had known Jessica was a Minnesota Vikings fan, at least in theory. On Sundays this fall, he’d seen her in a Vikings t-shirt or an Adrian Peterson jersey. But he’d never watched a game with her, at least until today.

Truth be told, he never really cared about football. Maybe it was a side effect of growing up just outside of Cincinnati and therefore having to root for the Bengals, but Caleb was a pretty avid OSU fan, so there went that theory. At the end of the day, sports weren’t really Seth’s thing. With what he knew about Jessica, he’d assumed they weren’t really hers either.

But it turned out, football was very much Jessica’s thing. He had thought it was a little strange when she said she couldn’t go to the movies with him because of the playoffs. Seth had wanted to actually go out together, now that her faux-mance with Chadley was over and she wouldn’t get chewed out if they were spotted together too often. Jessica instead invited him over to her new penthouse to watch the game. Seth had figured the game would kind of be on in the background while they talked, or maybe even fooled around a bit. That theory went out the window when she didn’t even get off the couch to great him, just threw up a hand in a vague wave as she kept her eyes glued on her television.

“You missed kickoff. The Saints went three and out, but it’s still the Vike’s opening drive,” she said, barely acknowledging him when he kissed her on the cheek as he sat next to her on the couch. From that point on, Seth wasn’t even sure that she remembered he was there half the time. Basically anything she said was directed at the people on the TV, whether it be the coaches, the players, or the announcers, all of whom she referred to by name, like they were her close personal friends or her mortal enemies. It didn’t take long for Seth to learn that Mike Zimmer was a genius, Sean Payton was a smug asshole, and Joe Buck and Troy Aikmen were just the worst. It was only during the commercials that she would chat with him, but she mainly seemed to want to discuss the most recent plays, and as soon as the game was back on, her head snapped back to the TV, her attention completely focused on her favorite team.

Seth understood the basics of the game, run versus pass, how downs worked, turnovers, most of the penalties, that sort of thing, but after the first couple of drives, it was clear that he had almost nothing he could add to the conversation. Jessica was naming both offensive and defensive schemes, talking about things like “the slant” or a “double A gap” like those words were supposed to mean something to Seth. Meanwhile, the only player on the field he had heard of before today was Drew Brees, and he certainly wasn’t going to try to talk to her about the man she had just referred to as a “little punk ass ponzi scheme shill.” And that description was polite compared to the way she talked about the Saints coach, dropping more swear words in one description of him than he had heard her say the entire rest of the time he’d known her. So instead of saying something that would put him in the hot seat, he just watched along with her, going to grab them new beers or some more snacks from her kitchen every so often.

If was kind of fun, seeing this completely different side of her. She was loud, energized, and vibrant. Normally he was the one who would geek out about things, whether it be old-school B-movies, obscure video games, or TV shows with a niche cult following. But after the first quarter, it was clear that Jessica was a football nerd. The only thing he’d ever seen her close to this passionate about before was film, and that was her line of work. She was yelling at the Saints players whenever they committed penalties and dancing when the Vikings scored, and even Seth found himself cheering and exchanging high fives with her, her energy infectious. He quickly learned to keep his beer in his right hand, far away from Jessica, after she nearly knocked it to the ground when she went wild after one of the Vikings players picked off Brees.

She was in a great mood going into halftime. The Vikings were up 17 to 0 and their defense, which Jessica seemed to love way more than the offense, had two interceptions and a couple of sacks already. But after halftime, Seth felt the energy in the room start to shift. The Vikings offense stalled, the Saints scored a touchdown, and then Case Keenum, the Vikings’ quarterback threw a bad interception. Jessica’s good mood was quickly evaporating with the Viking’s lead. By the start of the fourth quarter, she was twisting her hands around each other in her lap and chewing on her lip.

“Damn it,” she muttered, when one of the Viking’s players got pulled for an injury evaluation in that goofy looking blue tent on the sideline. “Not Rhodes. Shit.” Seth was going to ask her why losing that particular player was such a bad thing, but then the Saints scored again, bringing the score to 14-17, and Jessica let off a string of curses, rubbing her hands over her face.

“Hey, they still have the lead,” said Seth, placing a hand on her back, trying to be reassuring, but Jessica just shook her head, rolling her shoulders slightly. She clearly didn’t want him touching her right now.

“You don’t understand. The Vikings always choke. Always. They are gonna piss this away. We have a chance at a home Superbowl, and we’re gonna choke away a three score lead at home.”

Jessica’s prediction turned out to be right. The Vikings added a field goal, but then the Saints blocked a punt, something Seth didn’t even know a team could do, and turned that good field position into another touchdown. The Saints had the lead by one, and he thought Jessica was going to lose her mind. Her hands kept clutching at her cheeks and temples between plays, fingers twining together during the action. All the fun and joy of the first half was gone, replaced by pure anxiety and frustration. It was uncomfortable even sitting next to her. Seth wanted to tell her that it was just a game, but he was pretty sure that would get him kicked out of her apartment, if not straight up dumped on the spot, so he kept his mouth shut, praying that the Vikings might still pull off the win. He didn’t know how bad Jessica would be after a loss, but he was pretty sure it would ruin their entire night.

Just when Seth thought it couldn’t get worse, the one announcer said, “I know Vikings fans don’t wanna see this, and they’ll blame me,” before showing a highlight package of Vikings missed field goal attempts from playoff games in years past.

“And those are just the kicks,” added the other announcer, “I mean, they’ve had some other devastating losses over the years in other ways.”

“Oh just rub it in, you fuckers. Fucking Joe Buck and Troy Aikmen,” she growled. Before Seth could think of anything to say to her that would have any chance of calming her down, one of the wide receivers for the Vikings, Seth thought it might be Adam Thielen, made an impressive catch, and Jessica swung from annoyed anger to pure joy in a nanosecond, jumping off the couch and letting out a massive cheer. She stayed on her feet for the rest of the drive, holding her breath as she watched the Vikings kicker make a pretty long field goal to take a two point lead.

Seth thought Jessica would be overjoyed that her team was back on top, but she seemed stressed as ever when she sat back down.

“Uhh, not to bother you, but shouldn’t you be happier that your team has the lead?” Seth asked during the commercial break.

Jessica shook her head, “There’s too much time left on the clock and all they have to do is get to the 35 yard line or so. A field goal wins it.”

“But the announcers keep talking about how the Vikings are the best defense in the league.”

“Not this half, they aren’t.”

All Seth could do was sit there and watch as Jessica became more and more agitated as her prediction proved eerily accurate. When the Saints kicker drilled a field goal through with 25 seconds left on the clock, he dropped his hand to her knee.

“I knew it, I just knew it,” she moaned, dropping her face into her hands. “It’s over. One and done again.”

Seth knew better than to point out there was still time left on the clock. Even he knew that 25 seconds was not a lot of time to score.

The drive was off to a bad start when the Vikings got a penalty right away, but then they picked up about 20 yards on one play. Before Seth could even mention that maybe her team had a chance, Jessica was talking.

“Fuck, over the center of the field. Damn it, now we don’t have a time out left for the field goal even if we can manage to get into range. The Saints are just gonna cover the damn sidelines.”

The next play was an incomplete pass that left 14 seconds on the clock. As the Saints called a timeout, Seth’s mind started racing, trying to come up with the right thing to say when that clock ticked down to zero.

“Offer to get drunk with her. Or curse out the Saints and call them cheaters, she seems to do that often. No, just hug her. Don’t say anything. There’s not going to be anything she wants to hear from you.”

“And now ten seconds remain,” called out the announcer after another incomplete pass, “in what could be a heartbreaking loss for the Vikings, and a thrilling come-from-behind win from the Saints. Winner goes to Philly.”

Seth could tell Jessica’s heart was racing. As much as she claimed this was over, he knew part of her was still hoping for a miracle. Hell, even he felt nervous, and prior to today, he didn’t think he’d ever even seen a Vikings game. As the Vikings lined up and snapped the ball, he braced himself for the next play or two which would inevitably seal this as a loss. Case Keenum launched the ball into the air.

“Keenum steps into it,” said the announcer, “pass is CAUGHT! DIGGS! SIDELINE! TOUCHDOWN! UNBELIEVABLE! VIKINGS WIN IT!”

Seth watched in awe as a Vikings player not only came down with the ball, but somehow wasn’t tackled by any Saints player. Instead, he sprinted down the sideline and into the endzone as the clock hit zero, throwing his helmet off and holding his arms out in celebration to the crowd. It’s how he would have written the ending in a sports movie, but it was happening in real life.

Jessica had somehow vaulted over her coffee table and was shrieking almost inhuman noises as she fell to her knees in front of her television. Seth, meanwhile felt glued to his spot on the couch, his jaw hung open in absolute shock as he watched the stadium turn to absolute pandemonium on the screen, fans going wild, players running all over the field, and the player who made that spectacular catch, Stefon Diggs, being completely mobbed in the endzone. He was pretty sure Prince’s Let’s Go Crazy was playing at the stadium, but it was hard to make out between the cheers from the television and the insane shrieks coming from Jessica.

A loud buzzing noise attracted Seth’s attention. He glanced down and saw Jessica’s phone, lit up with “Dad” glowing across the screen.

“Jessica?” he said, standing up and holding out her phone, “It’s your dad.”

Jessica climbed across her coffee table, knocking over a bowl a tortilla chips in the process, grabbing her phone with one hand and flinging herself at Seth with the other, nearly tackling him to the couch with her enthusiasm. She clung to him as she swiped to answer her phone, her hand visibly shaking.

“Ahh, Dad!” she screamed into her phone, nearly painful for Seth as she was dangerously close to his ear, “I know!... I KNOW!... I thought so, too!... YES!...Yeah, I know!...Skol!”

As she began to recount the game with her dad, she unglued herself from Seth, sitting on the floor in front of her TV and watching the chaos and excitement unfold at the stadium. Seth couldn’t help it, the whole thing was so surreal that he just started laughing lightly. Things like this just didn’t happen outside of movies. Figuring that Jessica was going to be caught up in this excitement for a while, Seth grabbed the trash can from the kitchen and started cleaning up the mess of chips that Jessica had knocked everywhere.

He had just about cleaned up all the scattered chips when he heard Jessica say “Oh, wow,” before she went silent. Seth glanced up he saw Case Keenum, a hero of a quarterback now, leading the entire stadium in the Vikings’ “Skol” chant. He sank onto the couch, watching in awe as the camera pulled back. He got chills, and it wasn’t even his team.

“Yeah, I know. I’ll let you go, Dad.... Yeah, I love you, too.” Jessica said before setting down her phone and joining Seth on the couch, curling her legs up underneath her body. “Can you believe it?” she asked, shaking his shoulder lightly.

“No,” he replied with a chuckle, “Why did they have another play there?” he asked, gesturing to the TV. After the cheer, Keenum had lined up and taken one more snap before kneeling down. Seth would have thought the game was over with the insane touchdown.

“They still had to either attempt an extra point or and two-point conversion after the touchdown,” she explained, “Diggs scored at the end of regulation, so it wasn’t sudden death or anything.”

“Why didn’t they just kick the extra point? Why kneel it?”

“Don’t want to risk a blocked kick that the Saints could try and run back or any injuries.”

“Interesting,” he said, nodding slightly. It was a lot more enjoyable watching the game with someone who would actually explain the little details to him

“Thanks for cleaning up, by the way,” she said, gesturing to the coffee table.

“Of course, Iowa.”

“So, I’m gonna need you here next Sunday evening. You are clearly some sort of good luck charm.”

“Oh, I see how it is. All I am is some human prop your football team,” Seth said dramatically, flinging his head back against the top of her couch in mock indignation.

Jessica grinned down at him, “Why else would I want you around? Seriously, though. You should come over next week.”

“Sure, why not? I managed to survive this game with you; I can probably handle another.”

“Oh no,” said Jessica, drawing her hand to her mouth, “Was I really that bad?”

Seth laughed, “Come on, you have to know what you’re like when you watch football.”

“I don’t know, I always watched with my dad growing up. I didn’t think we were too crazy.”

He just continued to chuckle, watching Jessica clearly attempt to remember her actions over the past three hours, “Let’s just say that I’m pretty sure this afternoon was the equivalent of about 32 major life events. There was joy, despair, worry, frustration, anger, excitement-” he listed, holding up his fingers as he started counting off emotions in jest, but Jessica cut him off with a kiss.

“I’m sorry I was so nutty,” she said as she pulled away.

“Nah. It’s fine, Iowa. Like I said, it was like going through a bunch of life’s ups and downs all back to back. It’s kind of nice getting a little preview of what the hell I’m apparently getting myself into.”

Jessica swatted him playfully, swinging her leg over his lap and straddling him. “There was one emotion I notice you didn’t list,” she said into his ear, grinding down against him.

“Seriously? Football turns you on?”

“No, the Vikings winning turns me on,” she replied, working her lips across his jaw, “Come on, Seth. Don’t you want to celebrate with me?”

Groaning, Seth turned his head, capturing Jessica’s lips in a heated kiss, sliding his hands under her jersey and tugging it over her head. “I think I can definitely get on board with this whole football thing,” he said between kisses. Jessica laughed, clutching tightly to his shoulders as he stood up and made his way toward her bedroom, ready to start their own private victory celebration.

Why Matt Rhule has a chance to be a successful NFL coach

As the wheels of the NFL coaching carousel churned once again in the winter of 2020, an interesting hire came across the newswires. The Carolina Panthers hired former Baylor coach Matt Rhule as their next head coach to replace veteran coach Ron Rivera. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Panthers doled out a 7 year 60 million dollar contract (which can reach 70 million if incentives are reached). In short, the Panthers made a colossal commitment to a guy who has only 1 year of NFL experience (2012 as an assistant offensive line coach with the New York Giants). Additionally, the track record of head coaches transitioning from college to the NFL has been mixed at best. At any rate, I believe the marriage between Rhule and the Panthers has the chance to be a fruitful one for a variety of reasons.

Matt Rhule has a strong resume as a winning coach. A former linebacker at Penn State in the mid-1990s, Rhule has been a head coach at Temple University (2013-2016) and Baylor University (2017-2019). Following a 2-10 debut season at Temple, he increased the win total for the Owls over his next three seasons there. He won 10 games in each of his last two seasons at Temple (10-4 in 2015 and 10-3 in 2016). Rhule joined Baylor in 2017, a football program in ruins following a sexual assault scandal that enveloped figures such as head coach Art Briles and president Kenneth Starr. Following a 1-11 inaugural season at the helm, Rhule led Baylor to a 7-6 record in 2018 (including a win over Vanderbilt in the Texas Bowl). In 2019, Baylor finished 11-3, and was invited to the prestigious Sugar Bowl (which they lost to Georgia). The point is that Rhule has consistently turned teams around. Thus, he has the chance to be an elixir for a Panthers team in need of a home improvement, as they have finished 29-35 over the last 4 seasons (with only one playoff appearance) since their Super Bowl trip in 2015.

Schematically, Matt Rhule has proven himself to be cutting edge. According to Zach Barnett of FootballScoop.com, Rhule ran an offense at Temple that was run-heavy. He utilized big personnel (2 running backs and 2 tight ends on the field at the same time). At Baylor, Barnett noted that he adopted the run-pass option system (a system where, on a given play, the quarterback puts the ball in the belly of the running back and either hands off or pulls the football and passes it). Rhule implemented this offense, Barnett wrote, because he recruited a lot of Texas high schoolers who ran that system at their respective schools. In short, Rhule has proven himself to be adaptable in terms of his x’s and o’s. This flexibility is critical in the NFL, where the opponent changes week to week, and trends throughout the league take hold as time passes by (ie the NFL becoming more pass-oriented in the late 2000s, etc). Finally, Rhule picked a bright young offensive coordinator in Joe Brady. Brady spent two seasons (2017-2018) as an offensive assistant with the New Orleans Saints. He worked under head coach Sean Payton, one of the best offensive minds in the NFL over his 14 seasons and counting with the Saints. Additionally, he got to observe future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees. In 2019, Brady moved to LSU, a program that won the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. Brady won the Broyles Award, an honor granted to the best assistant coach in college football, and assisted an offense that ranked first in all of college football in points per game (48.4).

Matt Rhule has a personality that is conducive to him being successful in the NFL. Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer wrote in January 2020 that when Rhule was at Baylor, he had an open dialogue with faculty in regards to whether his players were late or not when going to classes. This anecdote shows Rhule demands accountability and discipline from his players, two characteristics that translate well to winning football games. In that same article, Tom Coughlin, the former New York Giants head coach, said about Rhule, “He’s so humble; no ego.” Coughlin later added, “He is very good at helping players get better because he comes off as so human. He’s good about admitting mistakes, and that’s a way of saying he wants to get better and help everyone else get better.” These quotes from Tom Coughlin illustrate that Rhule is a very easygoing person (ie not someone who has an overinflated sense of self), and an open-minded nature. I think these qualities make him relatable to players, who will in turn want to accept his coaching and play hard for him. Matt Lombardo of NJ.com wrote in January 2020 about Rhule. Lombardo spoke with Brandon Noble, a teammate of Rhule’s at Penn State, and an assistant with Rhule at Temple. Noble said, “Matt always had a chip on his shoulder…that idea and that mentality he brought to Temple, all of those kids were reminded of it when we went to play Notre Dame and when they went to play Penn State and eventually beat them. Those guys had that chip-on-their-shoulder mentality. That ‘Temple tough,’ Northeast thing…Matt has it and he gets guys to believe it.” Noble’s quote illustrates that Rhule instills toughness in his players, and toughness is perhaps the most fundamental quality needed in a football team. Additionally, the above quote demonstrates that Rhule is a strong motivator to his players, which is one of the most important traits a coach needs in order to have success.

The Panthers roster has pieces that Rhule can utilize in order to attain success. Admittedly, there is some uncertainty at the quarterback position. Cam Newton, a former MVP and 3-time Pro Bowler, is recovering from foot surgery, and has a contract that can be voided with only a 2 million dollar salary cap hit. Also, Luke Kuechly, a future hall of fame linebacker, announced his retirement in January. Therefore, things aren’t perfect from a roster standpoint for Carolina. However, there are talented players still left over on both sides of the football. The offensive fulcrum for the Panthers is running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey, a quick, powerful runner who is a great receiver as well, is one of the best players in the NFL. In addition, the Panthers have D J Moore, a 22 year old wide receiver who caught 87 passes in 2019. Opposite Moore is Curtis Samuel, a versatile receiver who, besides catching the football, is capable of running it on reverses, sweep plays, etc. The Panthers have some talented defensive personnel under contract as well. Defensive tackle Kawann Short is a disruptive player who is stout vs the run, and can push the pocket and rush the quarterback (32.5 sacks over 7 seasons in the NFL). Defensive end/linebacker Brian Burns, the 16th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, is a fast player who is a promising pass rusher (7.5 sacks in his debut season). Finally, the Panthers have linebacker Shaq Thompson. Thompson is a speedy linebacker who is a tremendous athlete (he played linebacker, safety, and running back in college at Washington). Upon signing a 4 year 54 million dollar contract extension in December 2019, general manager Marty Hurney referred to him in a statement as “very versatile” and “the blueprint for what we want at the position.”

The hiring of Matt Rhule was one that was not without risk. Furthermore, the Panthers gave an astounding commitment both in terms of years and finances to their new head coach. However, Rhule has an excellent resume as a team builder. He is also very intelligent, both in terms of his football iq, and his ability to connect with his players. Finally, he possesses talented players at his disposal. Mixing all the variables together, I absolutely believe that Matt Rhule can be a home run addition for the Carolina Panthers.

What the hell happened to creepypastas?

Whether it's Gilgamesh or urban legends, the art of storytelling has been around for thousands of years. In the case of creepypastas, just replace the campfire with a computer screen.

For those that have never experienced this internet genre of storytelling, creepypastas are horror-related stories, images, or videos. The name is based off the term "copypasta" because the stories are typically copied and pasted all over the internet.

But over the past few years, the popularity of the genre has dwindled after tragic events caused the community to reel itself back and stifle creation.

Despite its struggles, creepypasta hasn't quite met its own horror movie ending, but rather turned into something else. Shifting from its home in the corners of the /x/ board of 4Chan and r/NoSleep subreddit, the genre has made its way to TV screens across the country thanks to Channel Zero, a SYFY television series created by Nicholas Antosca that expands on the plot of creepypastas on the internet.

The early days of creepypasta

Some older and popular creepypastas include Jeff the Killer, a serial killer with no eyelids and a terrifying smile who murders his family; and BEN Drowned, a story by YouTuber Alex Hall that revolves around a haunted cartridge of the video game The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Hall included videos of the ordeal to further enhance the creepypasta.

"I saw that a lot of creepypastas only had one element to them — the writing — and I felt that if it had a visual component as well it would make it that much more engaging," Hall wrote.

BEN Drowned follows the story of a college student who goes the username Jadusable. The character buys a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask from a mysterious old man at a garage sale, that turned out to be haunted by a malevolent spirit named Ben.

"The genre itself was still pretty young when I wrote it in 2010," Hall wrote. "I didn’t know what it was at the time. I saw a few creepy video game stories in the wild, and I wanted to try my hand at writing something similar. It just happened to evolve organically from there."

Creepypastas get bigger—and more visual

The infamous Slender Man creature — who was birthed from a creepypasta — helped propel the community into the spotlight with his unnaturally elongated limbs and pale face lacking eyes, mouth, or a nose. Slender Man got so big that he had video games, YouTube web series, and a feature film based on him.

For content creators like Adam Rosner, making YouTube videos based on this figure was a cathartic hobby that eventually grew into a fully fleshed out web series called TribeTwelve.

"I started making videos back in 2010," Rosner said. "That type of raw horror was something that really appealed to me. It's a lot of what creepypasta lore really is."

Rosner's TribeTwelve series was well received by the community. In the series, Rosner plays the role of Noah Maxwell, a college student who is being tormented by a group of evil entities known as The Collective, and of course, Slender Man.

"When I started out I didn’t have a big plan," Rosner said. "I only wanted to have a few episodes and have a joke ending. But then people started posting in forums about my stuff, and they were really into the plot and visuals of the series."

As one of the large figures in the "Slenderverse," Rosner joined the ranks of other series creators like Marble Hornets and EveryManHYBRID, whose YouTube channels are dedicated to creating Slender Man videos.

Creepypastas take a dark turn

In 2016, a 12-year-old girl named Katelyn Davis livestreamed her suicide on Live.me. According to a blog post Davis wrote in December 2016, she had fallen in love with the the character Ben from Hall's creepypasta.

"I NEED his love. I NEED his warmth. It has been several months since I last spoke with him," Davis wrote. "He went by Ben Drowned. He claimed that he was the real Ben Drowned. Right now, I don’t care."

In an interview with Kotaku last year, Hall commented on the event.

"I don’t feel responsible," Hall said. "I feel like if it wasn’t my story, it would’ve been something else. Someone would have impersonated someone else or whatever, from another story, to lead her down that path or whatnot."

Davis' suicide was not the only tragedy surrounding creepypastas. Perhaps the most infamous case came in the form of an attack by two young girls in order to appease Slender Man.

In 2014, Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, lured their friend Payton Leutner into the woods in Wisconsin where they stabbed her 19 times and left her to die. All of the girls involved were 12-years-old at the time of the attack.

Multiple reports during the incident highlighted the girls' obsession with the creepypasta figure as a motive. Because of this, many felt Slender Man and the creepypasta community were guilty by association.

Thankfully, Leutner survived the attack after she dragged herself to a nearby road and was found by a cyclist. She was taken to the hospital to recover from her injuries, and her attackers were tried as adults in a court. Both Weier and Geyser pleaded guilty of attempted homicide. Weier was committed to 25 years and Geyser was committed to 40 years. Both of the teenagers are serving their sentences in psychiatric institutions.

"The stabbing was pretty discouraging for a lot of people," Rosner explained. "It felt like a lot of media outlets were looking for someone to point a finger at, and they just didn't understand the community at all."

Considered these two tragic events both involved young children, the community was hit hard.

Despite setbacks, creepypastas move to TV

Despite the backlash and decline in new stories, Nicholas Antosca saw potential in the genre, and revitalized the dying genre through his television show, Channel Zero.

"We wanted to honor the genre and give it our own twist," Antosca said. "The original stories are very short and it's necessary to bring a lot of stuff into it, so we wanted to give them more life with characters and a larger plot."

Channel Zero expands on creepypastas by using it as a platform to create an entire universe, characters, and a plot lines based off the original stories.

The show has been received well by critics and audiences. It's slated to premiere its fourth season, Dream Door, based on a creepypasta that was posted on the NoSleep subreddit last year. All of the original authors of the creepypastas were credited and paid.

"I have faith in the genre," Acosta said. "I think as long as people have fears in the modern world, they’re going to continue to read, write, and watch this stuff."

Will creepypastas continue to thrive?

At the moment, creepypastas are still being produced online, but not nearly at the same rate as they were previously. There also haven't been any standout creatures recently, such as Ben or Slender Man.

"I haven’t really seen too many newer ones crop up organically," Hall said. "I think a lot of the really popular ones came out in the first half of the decade and we’re waiting for the next big author out there to put their own spin on the genre."

Although the written aspect of creepypasta has declined over the past few years, the versatility of the internet has allowed it to retain its spooky value regardless of medium.

"It has a ridiculous amount of variety," Rosner said. "The community has so much to offer and I don't think it's ever going to go away, it'll just change forms."

Whether it's on TV, in a YouTube video, or written form, you can't escape a good urban legend or spooky story. As long as there are innovators in the community producing quality creepypasta for the internet, the genre is set to keep us up at night for more years to come.

"I’m excited to see where it goes in the future," Hall wrote. "I think there’s someone out there with an idea involving multiple mediums that’s going to set the internet on fire and I can’t wait for him or her to realize it."

"Oscars & Himbeeren" - Informativ. Unterhaltsam. Kompakt. In der ntv-App, bei Audio Now, Spotify und Apple Podcasts. Der Auftakt von "Home Team" klingt nach einem großen Sport- und Familiendrama. Stattdessen verkommt das Netflix-Werk - mit dem ewigen "King of Queens"-Star Kevin James in der Hauptrolle - schnell zu einem lauwarmen Brei aus abgedroschenen Gags und sinnentleerten Dialogen. Spätestens als die von Payton trainierte Schüler-Footballmannschaft ihren Kontrahenten auf dem Feld in Strahlen ins Gesicht speit, weiß der Zuschauer, welche Art von Film er sich anschaut: billigster Klamauk auf dem Niveau vieler Adam-Sandler-Filme. Da verwundert es kaum, dass Sandler selbst im Abspann als Produzent der Komödie genannt wird. Wenn Kotze-Witze wichtiger sind als Story Gegen Sandler-Filme ist nichts einzuwenden, einige haben durchaus ihren Reiz und funktionieren innerhalb ihrer eigenen Parameter. Das Dilemma von "Home Team" allerdings ist, dass der Film nicht auf einer fiktionalen Geschichte basiert, sondern der Realität. Sean Payton ist ein echter Mensch, der von 2006 bis 2021 tatsächlich Head Coach der New Orleans Saints war. Mehr zum Thema Auch die Eckdaten des Films entsprechen der Wahrheit. Aber was machen Sandler und James, denen eine Story vor die Füße fällt, die nur das echte Leben schreiben kann? Sie berauben sie jedes dramatischen und menschlichen Elements und pressen sie in das Korsett x-beliebiger Feierabend-Komödien-Unterhaltung. Anstelle von Tragik, gern auch mit satirischen Seitenhieben auf die Entwicklung des US-Sports der letzten Dekaden, bekommt man Kotze-Witze in Dauerschleife mit dem Konterfei von Kevin James als rammdösigem Sean Payton. Dass James sich diese Chance eines großartigen Sport-Porträts so bereitwillig durch Lappen gehen lässt, ist ebenso unverständlich wie das Mitwirken des echten Sean Payton an einem Film, der seine Protagonisten zu keiner Sekunde wirklich ernst nimmt. mold in the walls has assumed the form of a gloomy fella, sulking in the corner of an otherwise lively bar-setting. he’s sat at one of the tables, all alone, polluting the air with his nasty attitude while watching her from across the room like all those creeps in the movies. she’s having fun. or, at least she looks like she’s having fun, drinking liquors she’s probably never tasted before, swaying to the godawful beat of a poorly remixed song while flirting with some guy who’s just begging to have his arteries ripped out. adam shouldn’t be this jealous. he’s got no right to be this jealous. not after he was the one to tell her off, in the first place. yet there he is, silently fuming, crushing peanuts between calloused fingers while icy blues shoot handcrafted, venom-soaked daggers in their direction. it’s when mr. filthy hands that are about to be ripped off and shoved up his fucking ass starts feeling her up like she’s someone he can take home tonight that the blond decides to step in. walks through the crowd like he’s on a mission, unapologetic, shoving whoever’s in the way until he’s close enough to the pair. “party’s over.” announces with the dourness of someone who won’t take no for an answer, pushing the guy aside. "hey! what the hell do you think you’re doing?” the stranger tries to argue, but adam doesn’t seem to be in the mood for discussions. swings once, hitting the dude right in the nose and then again, in the face, to knock him off his feet. nonchalantly wipes his hand, turning to the girl. “grab your shit, t’s time to go.”

the exploration of the limitations of Takeru’s powers(Teleportation, Time manipulation(can manifests as speedster powersets), intangibility, and probability manipulation as well density manipulation) can be moment where we touched upon both Beast Boy and Lisa Simpson’s vegetarian diets, especially when we brought up Takeru’s required secondary powers

George, por sua vez, acabou com média de 21.9 ppj, enquanto Anthony teve 16.2. Já Steven Adams segue evoluindo, tendo terminado com 13.9 pontos e 9 rebotes por partida. O time sentiu muita falta de Andre Roberson, mas a chegada do experiente Corey Brewer ajudou OKC a tentar retomar o equilíbrio defensivo. Em contraposição à "decepção" do Thunder, o Utah Jazz foi uma grata surpresa nesta temporada e mesmo após a saída de Gordon Hayward se manteve entre os 8 melhores do oeste quando poucos acreditavam. E o grande destaque do time foi o calouro Donovan Mitchell. Escolhido apenas na 13ª posição do draft, o candidato ao prêmio de Calouro do Ano se tornou o 1º novato desde Carmelo Anthony a ser o cestinha de um time classificado para os playoffs e ainda quebrou o recorde de bolas de 3 de um novato que era de Damian Lillard. Além do camisa 45, outros 5 jogadores do time tiveram dígitos duplos em pontuação na temporada: Rudy Gobert (13.5 pontos, 10.7 rebotes e 2.3 tocos por jogo), Ricky Rubio (13.1 pontos, 4.4 rebotes, 5.3 assistências e 1.57 roubos por jogo), Derrick Favors (12.3), Jae Carwder (11.8) e Joe Ingles (11.5 pontos por jogo).
