Best Friend’s Sister
Adley Rutschman x Reader
Warnings: Adult Language, Fluff and Maybe a Tiny Bit Of Angst, Mention of Cheating, Anxiety, and Maybe Some Grammar Errors. (Sorry if I forgot any!)
Summary: Adley’s best friend is his teammate Gunnar and they have been so close ever since the Orioles drafted them. They are so close that they live together so when Gunnar’s big sister comes to Maryland to visit she stays with her brother and his best friend. But right when Adley meets Y/N he instantly falls for her which makes him freak out because he knows that he’s growing feelings for not just any girl, but he’s falling for his best friend’s sister.

Author’s Note: Just wanted to leave a little note that this story might not be completely accurate. This story takes place last season. I’ve heard Adley and Gunnar say that they have lived together multiple times. I don’t know if they just lived together when Gunnar first got called up or not and I don’t know if they live together now. They definitely live together during spring training but again this story takes place last season where I believed they were still living together during the regular season!
Tumblr media
Adley is the star catcher for the Baltimore Orioles and his best friend is his teammate Gunnar Henderson who is the Orioles star in the in field and is also a star with his bat as well. Adley and Gunnar were both drafted by the team in 2019. Adley was drafted number one overall after is record breaking season at Oregon State University. The team ended the season with a National Championship. Gunnar was drafted right out of high school.
The boys became close through the minor leagues all the way up to the major leagues. Adley made his major league debut in May 2022 and Gunnar made his major league debut the same year in September.
People noticed the close bond between the two players that people were saying that Gunnar is Adley’s sidekick. Both boys have admitted that they are very close and have said that the main reason why they are so close is because they live together in a contemporary style house.
———————————————
The Orioles just ended the day with another win. The team has a day off tomorrow before they start another series back at home. The team is currently in Boston getting ready to leave Fenway for the airport back to Maryland.
The team was in the visitor’s locker room gathering their stuff up to head outside to the bus. Adley was putting on his sneakers when Gunnar approached him. “Remember my big sister, is coming tomorrow morning.” Gunnar said reminding him.
A couple months ago Gunnar’s sister who is just a couple years older than him told him that she will be coming to visit him from their home town in Alabama. Gunnar asked Adley if it was okay if Y/N can stay in their guest room while she’s in town which Adley told him it wasn’t a problem at all. Y/N is the only person in Gunnar’s family that Adley hasn’t met yet. Gunnar has told Adley how amazing Y/N is and how close they are with one another. Gunnar is very excited to see Y/N since when Gunnar is playing baseball he doesn’t see Y/N a lot since she’s busy with her career. Y/N just broke up with her boyfriend of one year so she felt like she needed to get away so why not visit her baby bro.
“Right, thanks for reminding me.” Adley told Gunnar as he tied the laces to his left shoe. “How long is she staying with us again?” Adley asked him in a curious tone as he put on his right shoe. “A week and a half.” Gunnar answered him.
“You’re going to love her. She’s like the girl version of me.” Gunnar told him. “Okay so I’m basically going to be living another you.” Adley said as he stood up after tying his right shoe. “Can’t wait.” Adley added in a teasing tone as he playfully rolled his eyes. “Hey! I’m a good roommate!” Gunnar said defending himself as Adley picked up his bags that had him equipment and uniform in. “Whatever you say.” Adley said still teasing his best friend as he made his way out of the locker room. Gunnar rolled his eyes and followed him. He knows that Adley’s just messing with him like he always does. Adley sees Gunnar as a little brother.
———————————————
It was the next morning and Adley was awoken by music playing downstairs. Adley let out a big groan as he got out of his comfy bed. He was planning on sleeping in since the team had a long day yesterday but obviously that’s not going to happen. Adley walked out of his room and stomped downstairs to the living room. He heard the music coming from the kitchen so he made his way towards the kitchen.
“Gunnar will you turn down the-“ Adley started to say in a snappy and annoyed tone but stopped himself when he saw that the person in the kitchen wasn’t Gunnar. Adley right away knew that it was Y/N since she looked similar to Gunnar. Y/N stopped mixing the pancake mix that was in the bowl and paused the music that was playing on her phone.
“Shit! You’re not Gunnar.” Adley said as his cheeks turned a rosy red in embarrassment. “No, but people do say that I do look like the girl version of him.” Y/N told him with a giggle. “I’m Y/N.” Y/N added introducing herself with a kind smile. “I’m Adley but you probably know that so why am I telling you something that you already know.” Adley said cursing at himself in his head. Y/N let out another giggle which made Adley’s heart skip a beat. “It’s okay.” Y/N reassured him.
“Sorry for barging in here like that.” Adley apologized. “You don’t have to apologize.” Y/N told him. “I’m sorry about the music. Gunnar kept turning it up.” Y/N apologized. “It’s okay. This ain’t the first time I’ve been woken up by Gunnar’s music.” Adley told her with a small sigh. “Yeah, as much as I love my little bro he can sometimes be hard to live with.” Y/N told him which made Adley let out a small laugh.
“Do you want some pancakes?” Y/N asked him in a curious tone as she walked over to the stove carring the bowl that had the pancake batter in. “Sure.” Adley said with a nod. Y/N gave him a small smile and started to pour some of the batter into the big pan with a spoon. As Y/N cooked the pancakes Adley walked over to the kitchen island and took a seat down onto one of the chairs. As she cooked Adley would glance over at her. He didn’t notice that he was just staring at her till Gunnar walked in caring a grocery bag that has a carton of milk in it.
“I’m back.” Gunnar said. “Hey sleepy head.” Gunnar said walking over to Adley and roughing up his messy brunette hair with his empty hand. Adley rolled his eyes as he pushed Gunnar’s arm away. “I hope my annoying sister didn’t bother you while I was gone.” Gunnar said in a teasing tone. “Oh shut up and put the milk in the fridge.” Y/N told him in a stern tone. “Geez so mean.” Gunnar said pulling the milk out of the bag and walked over to the fridge. Y/N rolled her eyes as Gunnar opened the fridge and put the milk in it.
After Y/N finished making enough pancakes for herself and the boys they sat down at kitchen island together. As they ate Y/N and Gunnar told Adley stories about them growing up together. Adley also got to know Y/N as well.
———————————————
As the days passed and the more Adley has gotten to know Y/N he’s realized that he is falling for Y/N. And he knows that he’s not just falling for any girl, no! He’s falling for his best friend’s sister. He’s falling for Gunnar’s older sister.
When Adley’s around Y/N he just can’t help but feel butterflies in his stomach. When they lock eyes Adley feels his heart rate speed up. He loves hearing her talk with her southern Alabama accent that matches Gunnar’s.
Adley knows that he’s falling head over heels for her and some times he feels like she feels the same way but sometimes he thinks that it’s all in his head. But that’s not his biggest worry. His biggest worry is what Gunnar will think. Would he freak out if he finds out that his best friend likes his sister? Even though Y/N is the older sibling he can tell that Gunnar is very over protective of her. Adley wants to tell Gunnar about what he’s been feeling but he’s worried about what his reaction would be.
———————————————
It was a Saturday night and the Orioles had an early game win so to celebrate some players game to Adley and Gunnar’s house. Y/N sat in the backyard with her brother and his teammates. Since there was a fire pit in the backyard Gunnar put some firewood in the pit and started a bomb fire so everyone sat around the fire just having some drinks and talked. As time passed some guys left one by one. Once the last teammate left Gunnar called it a night for himself since he was exhausted so he went inside to his room leaving Y/N and Adley alone by the bomb fire.
There was a comfortable silence between the two till Y/N broke it. “I enjoyed watching you play. You sure know how to put on a damn good show.” Y/N told him which made Adley blush. He was hoping that Y/N didn’t notice. “Thanks.” Adley said with a smile. “I’m glad I took this trip. Really has helped me get my mind a reset.” Y/N told him. “Gunnar told me that you recently just got out of a relationship.” Adley said in a soft voice. “Yeah.” Y/N said with a small nod.
“What happened?” Adley asked in a curious tone. “If you don’t mind me asking.” Adley quickly added. “It’s okay. You’re good.” Y/N reassured him which made him relax. “It all started two months ago when my ex boyfriend kept accusing me of cheating on which I wasn’t and just after we celebrated our one year anniversary I caught him in bed with a girl who was at the time a good friend to me.” Y/N told him which broke his heart to hear. “Damn. That’s fucked up.” Adley said with a hint of anger in his voice. “Turns out he had been cheating on me for months and was just accusing me of cheating so I would break up with him.” Y/N said with a heavy sigh as she stared down at her hands that were resting on her lap. “What a dick move.” Adley said in disgust. “It was a fucking cowardly move.” Y/N added with another sigh.
“You don’t need people like that in your life.” Adley told her. “They didn’t deserve to have you in their life. Especially that douchebag.” Adley added which made her look up at him. “Really?” Y/N asked him. “Y/N, you are a beautiful and an amazing girl.” Adley started to tell her as they locked eyes. “The perfect guy is out there for you. He’s waiting for you and he’s going to make you forget all about that asshole.” Adley told her with a warm smile. “Thanks Adley, I’ll remember that.” Y/N said returning the smile.
Adley knew that he was talking about himself being the guy but he was wondering if Y/N knew that he was the one he was talking about.
———————————————
Ever since that night by the bomb fire Adley and Y/N have become so close that for the rest of her visit she always wanted to be around him and just talking to him. It made both of them sad when Y/N had to leave to go back to Alabama. Before Y/N got on her plane she promised that she’ll keep in touch with him.
Gunnar was driving his car with Adley in the passenger seat driving his car back to their house. “You have a feelings for Y/N, don’t you?” Gunnar asked him which took Adley by surprise. He didn’t know what to say so he just stayed quiet. “It’s okay if you do.” Gunnar told him with a reassuring smile which made Adley’s nerves relax. “Yeah, she’s just everything that I look for in a girl.” Adley told him. It felt so good for him to finally say this out loud to someone.
“I know my sister better than anyone so I know that she definitely feels the same way.” Gunnar told him giving him a quick glance. “But just because I’m your best friend doesn’t mean that I won’t kick your ass if you break her heart.” Gunnar added in a stern tone. Adley let out a small laugh. He knew that was coming. “You have my word cowboy.” Adley said looking at him. Gunnar couldn’t help but let out a laugh at Adley’s nickname he gave him.

Twins Bats Come Alive To Beat O’s!
Twins 8 Orioles 1 W-Lopez (4-5) L-Kremer (8-4)
The Minnesota Twins are at a crossroads in their season. The team is still in first place, but is slumping during this road trip. They opened up a series in Baltimore against the Orioles tonight. The Twins bats were ready from the start as Carlos Correa led-off the first with a single. Alex Kiriloff lined a two-out single to right and Royce Lewis plated him with a base hit to center. The Twins had a one-run lead after an inning of play. Minnesota added on in the second when Joey Gallo crushed a Dean Kremer fastball out to right for a solo homer. The Twins kept adding on in the third with a Byron Buxton lead-off walk. He stole second and Alex Kirilloff knocked him in with a single to right. Later in the inning, Max Kepler drilled a Dean Kremer cutter out to right for a two-run blast. The offensive outburst continued in the fourth as Carlos Correa was hit by a pitch and Kyle Farmer lined a single to left. Byron Buxton smoked a Bruce Zimmermann fastball out to left for a three-run shot. This extended the Twins lead to eight after four frames. The Orioles finally got to Pablo Lopez in the sixth when Adley Rutschman lined a slider out to right for a solo homer. Baltimore pulled within seven heading into the seventh. Meanwhile, Pablo Lopez finished off six solid innings. Jovani Moran had a scoreless seventh and Emilio Pagan fanned two in a clean eighth. Jordan Balazovic had a 1-2-3 ninth and the Twins picked up a much-needed win over the Orioles tonight in Baltimore.
-Final Thoughts- Pablo Lopez delivered a quality start. He threw six solid innings and allowed a run on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Jovani Moran threw up a zero in the seventh, Emilio Pagan had a scoreless eighth, and Jordan Balazovic needed nine pitches for a perfect ninth. Royce Lewis led a resurgent lineup with three hits. Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton, Alex Kirilloff, and Max Kepler had two hits each. The Twins hit 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. The Twins now have a one-game lead in the division with the Indians losing today at Wrigley Field. Tomorrow, Bailey Ober faces Kyle Bradish in a Saturday matinee.

Tuesday Bird Droppings: Glimpses of the future in an otherwise gloomy loss

Tuesday Bird Droppings: Glimpses of the future in an otherwise gloomy loss
Good morning, Camden Chatters.
That Orioles game last night was, to use a technical term, a total stinkfest.
The O’s began their season series against the Blue Jays and quickly wished they hadn’t, getting thoroughly trounced in an ugly 11-1 loss in Toronto. It was hard to tell which was worse: a pitching staff that served up 11 runs and 19 (nineteen!) hits, or an offense that managed just one run of its own. That kind of ugly performance was truly a team effort.
Still, if you’re looking for a silver lining, the Orioles provided one in the top of the seventh inning. With Adley Rutschman on base after a single, Kyle Stowers — making his MLB debut — smoked a double for his first major league hit, bringing Rutschman home. That’s a 24-year-old rookie, the Orioles’ #1 prospect, being driven in by another 24-year-old rookie, the Orioles’ #8 prospect.
You love to see it. And it’s something Orioles fans hope they’ll be seeing for years and years to come — and in games that actually matter, not 10-run blowout losses. “Stowers drives in Rutschman” is a phrase I could get used to hearing. Or “Rutschman drives in Gunnar Henderson.” Or “Henderson drives in Stowers and Jordan Westburg and Terrin Vavra.” Or…well, you get the idea. The Orioles’ lineup could soon be full of exciting young prospects, and last night gave us just the smallest taste.
There’s still a long way to go, as last night’s final score indicates. But better times certainly appear to be ahead for an Orioles team that’s gradually adding more and more talent.

More on Stowers and Garcia joining Orioles – School of Roch Stowers’ initial big league stint will likely last only this one series before Anthony Santander returns, but maybe he’ll hit like eight homers in these four games and make it impossible to send him back down.
Making good use of between starts prep, Carlos Tavera having big year for Aberdeen – Blog The Orioles must have seen something they liked in Carlos Tavera to make him the only pitcher they drafted in the first 10 rounds last year. So far, he’s rewarding their faith.
Orioles prospect Creed Willems gives off serious Kenny Powers vibes. But it’s his glasses that have made the difference at Delmarva. – Maximizing Playoff Odds Willems got off to a poor start, but things began to click as soon as he started wearing glasses. That’s not Kenny Powers. That’s Ricky Vaughn.
John Angelos reiterates Orioles won’t leave Baltimore – BaltimoreBaseball.com We thought the Orioles-moving-to-Nashville story had died years ago, but the Lou Angelos lawsuit brought it up again. John Angelos is now vehemently quashing the rumors again.
Orioles birthdays and history
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! Not a single Orioles player in history was born on this day. Best I can tell, there’s nobody even in the O’s minor league system with a June 14 birthday, so that drought won’t end soon anytime soon…unless the O’s trade for Bobby Witt Jr. (who turns 22 today).
The Orioles’ last win on this date came in 2017, when they scored nine unanswered runs to come back from an early deficit and beat the White Sox, 10-6. The O’s torched former Orioles right-hander Miguel Gonzalez for eight runs (five earned) in five innings, including a Welington Castillo grand slam. Trey Mancini had three hits and scored three runs.
The O’s have a habit of hitting extra-inning home runs on June 14. In 1970, Dave May blasted a walkoff two-run shot in the 10th to beat the Athletics, making a winner of Jim Palmer, who threw 10 strong innings. In 1972, the O’s again beat the A’s in 10 innings, this time in Oakland, on a Bobby Grich solo shot off Hall of Famer Catfish Hunter. And in 1974, Pat Kelly’s walkoff three-run blast toppled the Brewers in 11 innings, 8-5.
And on this date in 1985, legendary Orioles manager Earl Weaver returned as skipper of the club — less than three years after his retirement — taking over for the fired Joe Altobelli. The O’s celebrated his return with a 9-3 rout of the Brewers, featuring a Jim Dwyer four-RBI performance and a Storm Davis complete game.

Game 3 of the College World Series will be the most interesting baseball game you’ve seen all year
Tumblr media
Arkansas and Oregon State are playing strange baseball. It’s amazing.
The Arkansas Razorbacks beat the Oregon State Beavers in Game 1 of the College World Series on Tuesday night, 4-1. The Beavs then came back on Wednesday night to top the Hogs, 5-3, forcing a deciding Game 3 tilt in Omaha to crown 2018’s NCAA baseball tournament winner.
Both clubs are stacked top to bottom with trusty bats and solid arms. They contrast well from west coast to southeast baseball. OSU throws around guys and hits the ball, while Arkansas hits the ball and throws their next arm in the pen. Both clubs move men around the bases in classic college baseball fashion, and they’re playing a series-deciding contest in primetime on Thursday night. Let’s just say: its a fun matchup.
1. These teams play close.
First off, both teams have power hitting, and both teams feature MLB draft picks up and down their lineups. A full 10 batters across both teams are hitting over .300 this season, with OSU’s Adley Rutschman batting .400. None of these players are producing as they have at the plate in this series so far, though. Rutschman logged a solo home run in Game 2, and he was 11-21 coming into this series on the tournament, but most every other Beaver bat has found its way into an Arkansas glove the past two nights.
On the whole, just 13 runs have crossed in two games between these clubs, and they aren’t done yet.
Pitchers. The pitchers are great. They’re slinging things of beauty. We’ve witnessed two wonderful pitchers’ duels, and let’s hope for another on Thursday night.
2. There has been some sloppy play.
Base running interference in Game 1 that wiped an Oregon State run off the board. Multiple hit batsmen that scored runs in bases-loaded situations. Fielding errors. Left fielders completely losing the ball in the Omaha sun. Fielder’s choice plays resulting in runs. Wild pitches resulting in runs. Really, this series has had them all, and it’s joyous to watch.
Unpredictable and hilarious, just as baseball should be.
3. There have been some fielding beauties.
Oregon State’s first two batters in Game 2 shot long fly balls to center field, where Dominic Fletcher was forced to sprint back toward the wall to field them over the shoulder. Infield defense on both sides has for the most part been stellar, when they’re not committing throwing errors.
There’s also Razorback first baseman Jared Gates making stupendous catches in foul territory.
It's #CWS Finals. YOU GO ALL OUT. #SCtop10 | @RazorbackBSB pic.twitter.com/TNV3bolg7P
— NCAA Baseball (@NCAACWS) June 27, 2018
Both of these clubhouses want this.
4. College baseball is great baseball.
Minor, Major League Baseball is rather mechanically ratcheted away from the wild, cowboy rules of baseball. College baseball features spectacular fielding errors, right fielders pitching, and sublime bunting so as to one yearn for 10 cent beer nights.
The nature of the college game — with its gaps in talent and endurance up and down lineups and rotations — forces club skippers into wild decision moments concerning personnel and strategy. Bunt here? Sure. Pull an arm after three pitches there? Why not. This is Game 3: the final game of the final series of the NCAA baseball tournament, after a full month of playoff ball with all the money on the line.
If you want to watch some baseball, watch Arkansas and Oregon State in the College World Series rubber match.

Adley Rutschman x Reader
Warnings: Minor Cussing, Angst, Fluff, Cheesy Ending, Adley looking at negative comments on social media, and Possible grammar errors.
Summary: After the Baltimore Orioles season ends in heartbreak against the Texas Rangers, Y/N knows how upset Adley is, so she does all she can to let her boyfriend know that no matter what happens she will always be proud of him.
Word Count: 1,678
Author’s Note: Hello Everyone!! So happy I am releasing my first Adley imagine on here!! Thank you to the ones who have requested me to write him because I’m not going to lie I am completely head over heels for him! I hope you all enjoy my first imagine of Adley and I hope I get to write more for him in the near future!
Tumblr media
Y/N is a photographer for the Baltimore Orioles. She takes the pictures and videos of the players and posts them on the official Orioles Instagram account. She’s also the girlfriend of the team’s star catcher Adley Rutschman. They first met in May of 2022 when Adley got called up from the minor leagues. When Y/N heard that Adley was moving up to majors she was beyond excited since she had developed a crush on the star catcher. The only time they came across each other was spring training, but they never stopped to talk to one another. When they met, they officially immediately hit it off and started to date. They just celebrated their one-year anniversary in June.
It was playoff season for the MLB, so the Orioles were so excited since it’s been years since the Orioles made the postseason, but sadly it didn’t go the way they thought it would’ve. Y/N and the team are in Texas playing the Texas Rangers. After losing the first the first two games in Baltimore they had to go to Arlington, Texas to play the third game of the five-game series. The Orioles had to win to keep their season alive, but they sadly came up short.
When the Rangers ran onto the field to celebrate their victory Y/N went down into the clubhouse since it broke her heart to see the Orioles histrionic season come to an end like this. Her heart ached for this team because she knows they worked their asses off all season to get where they are and to just get swept like this was so disappointing. Y/N felt more bad for Adley since she knows how excited he was and now she knew that all that excitement he had was now drained out of his body with disappointment. Y/N wanted to go into the dugout and comfort him, but she knew that he needed to be with his team, so she waited outside the locker room for him.
As minuets passed players and coaches started to make their way into the locker room, but no sign of Adley. Y/N hadn’t seen Gunnar yet either, so she knows Adley is probably with him, but when she saw Gunnar coming her way by himself that theory disappeared. “Gunnar!” Y/N said walking up to him. She met him halfway. “Where’s Adley?” She asked him. “He’s still sitting in the dugout.” Gunnar answered with a heavy sigh. “You should go talk to him.” He told her. “Okay.” Y/N said in a soft tone and walked past Gunnar to the dugout.
Y/N walked up the steps into the dugout to see Adley sitting by himself watching the Rangers celebrate. It crushed her to see the disappointment in Adley’s eyes, but she also saw frustration and sadness in his eyes as well. It was breaking her heart to see the guy she loves going through this. Y/N walked over to him and stood next to him. “This fucking sucks.” Adley hissed before Y/N could say anything. “I know.” Y/N said taking one of his hands and gave it a comfort squeeze. “Come on, you should be with your team.” Y/N told him. She was worried that he was going to fight with her, but he didn’t. Y/N led him to the locker room where his teammates were most likely waiting for him, so their manager can talk with them.
While Adley was with his team Y/N got all of her stuff and all of his equipment that was in the dugout. She made her way out of the stadium and to the rental car she rented from the airport. After unlocking the vehicle, she put her stuff in the backseat and then put all of Adley’s stuff into the trunk since there was more room in the trunk and his stuff takes up more room. Once she settled herself into the driver's seat, she took out her phone to send Adley a text message saying she’s sitting in the rental car with his equipment and wondered if he wanted to go back to the hotel with her instead of riding the bus back with the team. Not too long after she sent the text, he sent her back saying he’s okay riding the bus back with his team. She smiled at that since she’s happy he wants to be with the guys. She knew Gunnar is probably helping him out since they are the closest with each other. She sent him a quick text back letting him know that she’s going to grab the both of them something to eat and then she’ll be back at the hotel. She knows that they only have a couple hours till they have to get back on a plane to Baltimore, so she went quickly.
After getting the food she was worried that she wasn’t going to find a parking spot, but lucky for her there was a car backing out of a spot right in front of the hotels entrance. She parked the rental car and turned it off. She grabbed the bag of food from the passenger seat and got out of the car. She made sure the car was locked and made her way into the lobby where she ran in Gunnar.
“Hey, how was Adley on the bus?” Y/N asked him in a curious tone. “He didn’t even say a word to anyone.” Gunnar answered with a heavy sigh. “Damn, he’s really crushed.” Y/N said with sadness written all over her face. Everyone always knows when there's something going on with Adley. When he’s upset, he’s the quietest person in the room. Y/N has seen Adley get upset over a lost, but she’s never seen him this sad. But she does know that this lost is bigger than all the others.
“He really thought we were going to make it to the championship.” Gunnar told her. Y/N saw the same sadness and disappointment in Gunnar’s eyes that she saw in Adley’s. “You all did.” Y/N told him as she rubbed his shoulder in comfort. “Their’s always next year. This is just the start.” Y/N told him in a reassuring tone with a reassuring smile on her face. “Thanks Y/N. You always know how to cheer us up.” Gunnar told her with a small smile forming on his lips. Y/N isn’t just the photographer for the team, she’s also the pep talker as well. “It’s what I love to do.” Y/N told him taking her hand off his shoulder. “I’ll see you later, Y/N.” Gunnar told her with a small laugh. “See you later, Gunnar.” Y/N said with a giggle and walked over to the elevator.
She pressed the up-arrow button and patiently waited for the doors to open. She was happy that she was able to make Gunnar smile and laugh a little, but she knew it was going to be a mission to cheer Adley up. When the elevator doors opened, she waited for the people that were already inside the elevator to walk out. She walked into the elevator and pressed the button that had the number five on it. As she waited for the elevator to take her up to the fifth floor, she thought about what she’s going to say to Adley.
When the doors opened to the fifth floor she walked out and made her way down the hallway to the hotel room she’s staying in with him. She grabbed the room key out of her back pocket and unlocked the door. When she walked into the hotel room, she saw her boyfriend sitting on the end of the bed scrolling on his phone. Y/N knew whatever he was looking at on his phone wasn’t good because of the look he had in his eyes. “Hey.” Y/N said closing the door and walking over to the small table to put the bag of food down and the hotel key next to the bag. Adley just stayed silent as he continued to look down at his phone. Y/N let out a heavy sigh as she sat down next to him onto the bed.
“I’m still proud of you.” Y/N told him which earned a scoff from him. “For what?” Adley said in a harsh tone as he continued to look down at his phone. “Adley, you don’t need a World Series trophy for me to be proud of you!” Y/N told him in a stern tone. “Really?” Adley said finally looking over at her. Y/N took his phone out of his hand and put it down behind them. “I know you really thought you guys were going to make it, but you guys played one hell of a season.” Y/N told him taking one of his hands like she did when they were in the dugout. “This is the best Orioles team people have seen in a long time and this is just the beginning.” She told him as she used her other hand to move some of his hair away from his forehead. “Don’t worry about what those assholes on social media. They are just trying to put you guys down. In my eyes, you will always be the best. You will always be my number one.” Y/N told him which made his lips curve into a small smile. His smile always makes her heart flutter.
“You always know what to say to cheer me up.” Adley said to her. “Just part of my job as being the best girlfriend in the world.” Y/N told him which earned her a laugh from him as she had a smile on her face as well. “And that’s why I’m the luckiest guy.” Adley said and leaned in to connect his lips with hers. Y/N smiled into the kiss as she returned it. When they released from the kiss, they rested their foreheads against each others.”I love you.” Adley said which made her heart flutter again. “I love you more.” Y/N told him. “Not possible.” Adley said and reconnected their lips for another passionate kiss.

2021 MLB Mock Draft: High school shortstops, Vanderbilt arms among the top prospects
Tumblr media
The MLB Draft is just over a week away, and unlike in past years, there is no slam dunk pick for No. 1.
In past years, it was just a question of how fast the Orioles could announce the pick of Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman (2019) or whether the Tigers would start playing Arizona State hitter Spencer Torkelson at first base or third base (2020).
This year, there is a strong group of high school shortstops, a pair of exciting Vanderbilt pitchers and a few college bats that could generate some buzz anywhere in the top 10.
We’re taking our best shot at what the draft will look like when the commissioner reads the first-round picks on July 11.
MORE: Who is confirmed to swing in the Home Run Derby?
Here’s our latest projections for a 2021 MLB Draft first round.
1. Pirates — Marcelo Mayer, SS, Eastlake High (Chula Vista, Calif.)
The discussion around this draft has been that there is no consensus No. 1 pick as there has been in previous years, but the Pirates have been linked to Mayer for a long time. The high school shortstop has one of the best hit tools and some raw power that excites many scouts, especially when combined with his above-average defense at shortstop.
2. Rangers — Jordan Lawlar, SS, Jesuit Prep (Dallas)
The Rangers are going with the local product second overall here. Lawlar is perhaps a more dynamic talent than Mayer with his speed and power combination, but his hit tool and defense are behind the California product. A shortstop with tons of upside and a home just a few miles from Globe Life Park? It feels like a perfect fit for the rebuilding Rangers.
3. Tigers — Brady House, SS, Winder-Barrow (Ga.) High
Prep shortstops now round out the top three as the Tigers opt to go for the upside in House’s bat over the dynamic arms of Jack Leiter and Jackson Jobe. House might have to move off shortstop eventually to play third base as he is not the most agile, but his bat will play anywhere on the diamond. House and Spencer Torkelson could make for an enviable middle-of-the-order combination down the road.
4. Red Sox — Jack Leiter, RHP, Vanderbilt
The run on high school shortstops finally comes to an end at No. 4 with the Red Sox landing the son of former big leaguer Al Leiter. Vanderbilt’s ace has reportedly wanted to land in Boston and he’ll have the leverage himself down to the Red Sox as the top college arm. He’s so refined on the mound that he might not take long in the minors and could help the resurgent Red Sox earlier than many other prospects in this year’s draft.
5. Orioles — Sal Frelick, OF, Boston College
The Orioles might be tempted to take the best talent off the board left in catcher Henry Davis of Louisville, even with top catching prospect Adley Rutschman in their system, but Baltimore is saving money and taking the Boston College outfielder early. Baltimore made a similar move last year in reaching to take Arkansas outfielder Heston Kjerstad second overall, but this time instead of power upside, the Orioles go for Frelick and his hit/speed combination.
6. Diamondbacks — Henry Davis, C, Louisville
Arizona has been linked to other names like Kahlil Watson and Jackson Jobe, but if Davis is available here, the Diamondbacks would probably jump at the chance to take him. He’s a college catcher with a refined hit tool and plus power who should be able to stay at the position as he’s continued to improve behind the plate. Even if he can’t hold up there defensively, Davis offers plenty in the bat to make him worthy of a high pick.
7. Royals — Kumar Rocker, RHP, Vanderbilt
With recent high-round picks of Brady Singer, Jackson Kowar and Asa Lacy, the Royals have established they’re big on SEC pitching. It just so happens that a dynamic SEC hurler is available for them to take at this spot. Rocker was already coveted out of high school, and he’s gotten even better with improved command and refined secondary offerings. He might have the most upside of any of the college arms taken by Kansas City in recent years.
8. Rockies — Kahlil Watson, SS, Wake Forest (N.C.) High
Watson has generated a lot of buzz to go higher than No. 8 and could be a potential pick to go as high as No. 2 to the Rangers, but here, he’s falling to the Rockies. He has flown up prospect rankings of late due to his complete game, with the ability to hit for average and power, his speed and his slick defense at shortstop. The Rockies reportedly want a hitter, and they’d be more than happy with landing Watson.
9. Angels — Jackson Jobe, RHP, Heritage Hall High (Oklahoma City)
Another team very happy to land a high upside prep player, the Angels watch as Jobe falls to them at No. 9. Evaluators have said Jobe might have the most upside of any pitcher in this class — yes, even higher than the Vandy arms — with premium velocity and the best slider in the draft. Jobe has ace potential and the Angels would welcome the chance to work on developing him into that arm.
10. Mets — Matt McLain, SS, UCLA
The Mets have been linked to several college bats, as well as prep third baseman Colson Montgomery as a bonus-saving pick, but here they’ll take the top college infielder in this year’s class. McLain came into the 2021 year ranked much higher by evaluators, but got off to a slow start. He put it together near the end of the season and his plus hit tool, speed and the potential to add power could make him an enticing prospect.
11. Nationals — Ty Madden, RHP, Texas
The Nationals would love it for Jobe to fall to them, but it’s not happening in this mock. Instead, they’re going to draft the top college arm left in Texas’ Ty Madden. The right-hander has mid-90s velocity, a sharp slider and above-average control that makes him a refined pitching prospect and a pitcher many see as being a potential front-of-the-rotation starter.
12. Mariners — Colton Cowser, OF, Sam Houston
An outfield of Jarred Kelenic, Kyle Lewis and Taylor Trammell already sounds pretty good. Do the Mariners need more? Well, it’s always best to take the most talented player left and that’s the case with Cowser still on the board. Seattle wants a bat to draft, and Cowser offers one of the best college hit/speed combinations in this year’s class.
13. Phillies — Benny Montgomery, OF, Red Land High (Lewisberry, Pa.)
The Phillies have been consistently linked to the central Pennsylvania product, who might have the most upside of any player in the draft. The hit tool has drawn questions from scouts, but he’s one of the fastest players in the draft, offers tons of raw power and can play above-average defense in center field.
14. Giants — Jordan Wicks, LHP, Kansas State
After Cowser and Frelick are off the board, San Francisco will probably be looking at Wicks as their pick. Far and away the best left-handed college pitcher in the draft, Wicks has perhaps the class’ best changeup and above-average command. He could be a quick riser in the minors given his advanced feel for pitching and well-rounded repertoire.
15. Brewers — Harry Ford, C, North Cobb High (Kennesaw, Ga.)
Ford is one of the most interesting players in the draft as a catcher with an above-average run tool and the ability to play any position on the field, including center field. The Brewers have been linked to Ford and would love to add the athletic backstop with the lightning fast bat to their farm system should he fall to them at No. 15.
16.  Marlins — Will Taylor, OF, Dutch Fork High (Irmo, S.C.)
Reports have indicated it will take a lot to pry Taylor from a dual commitment to play football and baseball at Clemson in the 2021-22 school year, but here, Miami is going to count on being able to sign him away from the Tigers. He’s one of the most athletic players in this year’s draft with one of the best run tools and the ability to develop some more power with more development.
17. Reds — Bubba Chandler, RHP/SS, North Oconee High (Bogart, Ga.)
The Reds have loved picking dual-threat talents in previous years, with Michael Lorenzen showing off his prowess with the bat as a bonus to his pitching skills and Hunter Greene getting the chance to bat before focusing full-time on pitching. Cincinnati will try the experiment out again with Chandler here, looking to see if the tooled-out shortstop makes more of a statement with the bat or if his lights-out fastball/curveball combo forces the team to look more at his arm.
18. Cardinals — Will Bednar, RHP, Mississippi State
After a dazzling outing in the final game of the College World Series to help deliver his team the win, Bednar is certainly going to be continuing his rise up prospect rankings. The Cardinals have been linked to several college arms and Bednar with his plus command and standout array of pitches would fit the team’s desire in this draft nicely.
19. Blue Jays — Sam Bachman, RHP, Miami (Ohio)
Bachman’s slide down the board stops here. The Blue Jays have found success with hard-throwing college arms in the past like Nate Pearson and Alec Manoah, and they’ll jump on Bachman if he’s available in this spot. The Miami (Ohio) product already hits triple-digits and has one of the hardest fastballs in the draft. On top of that, he offers a wipeout slider and above-average changeup to give him a well-rounded repertoire.
20. Yankees — Gunnar Hoglund, RHP, Mississippi
Before he went down with Tommy John surgery, Hoglund was viewed as a possible front half of the first round talent. If the Yankees are willing to wait on him to come back from surgery, as they did with South Carolina hurler Clarke Schmidt back in 2017, who also underwent surgery before the draft, they could be getting a steal. His control is among the best in the draft and his repertoire is deep with a plus fastball and slider.
21. Cubs — Michael McGreevy, RHP, UC Santa Barbara
Chicago has also been linked with Florida outfielder Jud Fabian, a risky gamble on a player with upside, but here the Cubs are going the safe route with a pitcher that has drawn comps to fellow Gaucho Shane Bieber. McGreevy draws positive marks for his well above-average control and his fastball/slider combination that could see an increase in velocity with some more development in his 6-foot-4 frame.
22. White Sox — Colson Montgomery, 3B, Southridge High (Huntingburg, Ind.)
Some rumors have had Montgomery going higher in the draft as a chance for a team to cut a deal and save money for later, but he’s falling down to No. 22 here to the White Sox. Chicago has been linked to the 19-year-old slugging third baseman, who would give the farm system a big upside play as a potential middle-of-the-order bat.
23. Indians — Jud Fabian, OF, Florida
The Indians have shown a willingness in previous drafts to gamble on upside early over the higher floor players, and that’s what Fabian offers them. A tough 2021 dropped Fabian in rankings from potentially being the first college bat taken to possibly even a second-rounder, but he has tons of raw power and offers the speed needed to play all three outfield positions. If Cleveland can get him to click, it could be getting a steal late in the first.
24. Braves — Ky Bush, LHP, Saint Mary’s
Atlanta is seemingly linked to arms every year in the draft and have done well with several recent high picks like Mike Soroka and Max Fried having positive impacts on the team. Here, they’re taking the hard-throwing lefty from Saint Mary’s, Ky Bush. If the Braves want to speed him to the big leagues, he could be a weapon out of the bullpen quickly with his fastball/slider combination, or they could work him as a starter over time.
25. Athletics — Alex Mooney, SS, St. Mary’s Prep (Orchard Lake Village, Mich.)
Mooney has made quite a rise up prospect rankings with his quick swing and a well-rounded game at shortstop. Oakland has been linked to a number of different bats and Mooney could fit what the A’s are looking for as a player that offers some upside at an up-the-middle position while also providing a high enough floor as a player already displaying impressive tools.
26. Minnesota Twins — Adrian Del Castillo, C, Miami
Del Castillo was an early favorite among evaluators as a catcher with an exciting hit tool and some pop with the potential to stay behind the plate. Struggles in the 2021 campaign have taken him out of the conversation as the first catcher taken, but the Twins have been linked to him with the belief they could still tap into that potential and have a bat-first backstop.
27. San Diego Padres — Andrew Painter, RHP, Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
The Padres have not shied away from taking tooled-out players early in the draft in the past, and they’ll nab one of the highest-upside pitchers in the class with Andrew Painter falling to them at No. 27. Painter has an explosive arm with three plus pitches and above-average control, and at 6-foot-7, there could be room for adding more velo. He could go much earlier than this spot when draft day comes.
28. Tampa Bay Rays — Trey Sweeney, SS, Eastern Illinois
In a short amount of time, Sweeney has improved his draft stock by showing off one of the best hit tools in college and some pop that could grow to be an average or better tool for him. The Rays have shown in the past they can do a lot with high floor batters and Sweeney fits that mold well. His defense at short isn’t great, but the bat would play in the outfield or at third base if needed.
29. Dodgers — Chase Petty, RHP, Mainland (Linwood, N.J.)
Few teams have the track record of successfully developing high upside prospects like the Dodgers, and they’re banking on getting the most out of Petty in this year’s class. Perhaps the owner of the best raw stuff of any high school pitcher, Petty throws in the upper-90s with a fastball in the triple-digits and can spin a plus slider and average to above-average changeup. Some teams have concerns over reliever risk, but here, Los Angeles sees front-of-the-rotation potential.
