i always wondering what animation software or app do you use to animate and how long it took. Anyway i love your art✨️✨️💞
THANK YOU!! ^^
I use Adobe Animate 2021!!
it kind of depends on the difficulty of the animation? Fully colored, shaded, with backgrounds, frame-by-frame, etc... those can take 2 weeks to a month.
But sketchy, short, or tweened animations? (Especially those with messy lineart with not a lot of details),, those can take up to 1 to 5 hours.
This one for example (referenced from this TikTok), took me 1 hour today!!
The origins of Germany's natural gas, January 2021 - December, 2022.
by u/jcceagle
This datavisualisation is based on data from the latest annual report for 2022, produce by bdew: https://www.bdew.de/media/documents/Jahresbericht_2022_final_20Dez2022.pdf
The report is in German, but there is lots of analysis and useful chart. I created this animated pie chart using Javascript to show how quick Germany has moved away from Russian gas. I rendered the video in Adobe After Effects.
We are back again this week with the most exciting prompt yet: no prompt! I am taking this opportunity to talk about my biggest childhood interest… SHIPWRECKS!
You might be wondering how this relates to nature at all but deep-sea shipwrecks are biodiversity hubs. I have always been interested in shipwrecks because I am both terrified and in awe of them. My main fascination is with how such an inorganic and visually man-made object is completely emersed by aquatic life and fits so well in an ecosystem it was never intended to be in.

Shipwrecks are considered “islands of biodiversity” because they offer a structure for an incredibly wide variety of species to inhabit, which creates pockets of very high biodiversity, acting as artificial reefs (Hamdan et al., 2021). Imagine a sandy sea floor with not much going on besides some small rocks and vegetation, now put a huge stationary shipwreck there, and eventually, many species will call this new isolated habitat their new home. Many shipwrecks are dripping with so many species that you cannot even see bare metal anymore.
It is clear from photos that there are lots of different fish, vegetation, and corals that inhabit old shipwrecks, but we are missing a very important aspect of shipwreck ecosystems: the micro-organism colonies! In our defense, we can't see them but they make up a huge portion of biodiversity. Microorganisms establish and preserve shipwrecks as artificial reefs, allowing other species to thrive in/on shipwrecks. It is amazing how much power the tiny species hold and how influential they are to full ecosystems. (Hamdan et al., 2021)

I have never had the opportunity to visit a shipwreck other than kayaking over top of a boiler. I love watching videos of people diving to explore shipwrecks, although I can't imagine ever doing it myself. I am incredibly curious to hear if anyone has done this? I would absolutely love to hear your experiences! We (Ontario locals) live in the perfect place to go shipwreck diving because the Great Lakes have cold water and low salinity which are fanatics conditions for the preservation of shipwrecks. The Great Lakes are regarded as one of the best shipwreck diving spots in the world. (Harrington, 2019)
I have always found shipwrecks interesting because of the duality that the vessel wasn't strong enough to complete its voyage but it is strong enough to be preserved underwater for (possibly) hundreds of years, sometimes in near-perfect condition. However, the shipwrecks of the Great Lakes are in trouble!! Invasive species of the Great Lakes like zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha) and quagga mussels (Dreissena rostriformis bugensis) are threatening our beautifully preserved nuggets of history. These filter feeders can cause damage through heavy weight and even corrosion of some metals, if enough pile up. Additionally, they release carbon dioxide which can severely alter water quality and the conditions that help preserve shipwrecks. It is insane that these huge structures that can last up to thousands of years can be threatened by something as small and seemingly passive as mussels. (Harrington, 2019)
Thanks for reading, hopefully you see shipwrecks from a slightly different perspective! Who knew shipwrecks were so intertwined with nature (I did because I am a nerd who loves shipwrecks)!

In early months of 2021 I got the opportunity to animate for the show I Heart Arlo. It is a series set after the musical movie Arlo the Alligator Boy. That time the director that i worked with in helluvaboss asked if i interested to animate creatures. yes i do ! Previously i animated this Beast Rising , animation collab with AtelierGokujou :
https://youtu.be/QMRCFCVoNao
the animation will be similar to that, the morphing..
here are the shots i animated , these are took too long time to animate and Adobe Animate is hell :
for traditional handrawn animation, i use clip studio ex!
for the kamdeuce animatic (and any vids from 2022 -> present), i used sony vegas 18 to put all the pics together! (i have learned i hate sony vegas for anything picture related immensely .)
for my OLDDDD fandom animation memes from 2021 and before, i used adobe after effects. (i need to 🏴☠️ it again fr 😭)
If you're using Adobe Animate on an iMac and you have the issue of frameskipping/lag when using the timeline, YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND ALSO I BRING HOPE AND AN END TO YOUR PLIGHT!!
So I switched to Animate 2021 from Flash CS5.5 last week because the autosaver took 45 seconds to back up and using my laptop while hotdesking I realised its only 6 seconds save time on AA2021. That really adds up when you autosave every six minutes because Animate is unreliable and crashes frequently.
But alas. My woes were just beginning. Specifically the woes that look like this:
I thought this was because my iMac has only 8gb of RAM and unfortunately its the kind you can't install upgrades to, so I basically thought I was just fucked. But it turns out this is a problem with all 4k/5k Apple computers, because Animate is terribly optimised and its vector system was never designed to run on HD machines. Because Animate is worse than Flash and keeps getting worse with every successive build.
BUT FEAR NOT!!! there IS a workaround:
If you go to apps and get info on Animate, then and then check open in low resolution, THEN when you reopen Animate it'll run buttery smooth again (though it will look slightly soft-focus because of pixel interpolation). AFAIK this option is only available on Catalina-Ventura, however Ventura onwards allow you to change your native resolution to be lower (Catalina, for whatever godforsaken reason, does not have this option).
FINALLY, if you're still on beautiful beloved Mojave, DO NOT UPGRADE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!! Catalina ended 32 bit program support which means you can't run Flash CS5.5 anymore (you can install it on the latest Mojave even if it gives you an out of date error, you just gotta open package contents on the installer -- the files are on archive.org and there's at least one good jailbreaker out there in the usual places for Mac).
DOUBLE FINALLY, if you're not a veteran of Flash/Animate who pairbonded with it from childhood, USE KRITA or TOONBOOM HARMONY or LITERALLY any other software. Adobe software legitimately keeps getting worse and worse and Animate is by FAR the worst of all of them. It is so much better to learn a new workstation and be a bit slower for a couple months than locked into the worst company of all time that uses predatory pricing tactics and keeps getting worse and worse with every build. and also if you don't use Animate or Mac computers, please share this anyway so no one else has to skulk around on the internet feeling like giving up, looking for cheap busted iMacs with cracks on the screen because they think they need to shell out to continue making cartoons. Thank you for listening 🧙♂️✨💖
[in addition to this post i previously made]. Before we start, I want to say that i’m no expert in any way, and everyone should work in ways they're most comfortable with, i just want to share some knowledge i collected over the years with everyone who might find it useful and maybe improve their skills in making content. So, let’s get started! WARNING: IMAGE/GIF HEAVY!
Save workspaces. You can have multiple workspaces for different needs. For example, i’m making gifs more often, but sometimes i make edits as well, so having to switch the timeline panel off when it gets in a way, then go back to the view menu, then bringing it back again... idk, call me lazy, but it seems like a few extra clicks for me 💀 What you can do instead is save your current workspace and easily switch between them any time you want. To do that, align all your tools and menus as you want, then find this icon at the top right corner
Scroll down to New Workspace, and this window will pop up
Name your workspace however you want, and chose what you want to save. You can save keyboard shortcuts, menus and tools. When you click save and change your layout, nothing will happen. That is because you need to reset your Essentials workspace first (the one that’s usually the default). Now when you switch between your workspaces (if you saved multiple) everything should work as expected
How to change the speed of gif without converting to frame animation (PS 2021 and above). THANK GOD Adobe fixed the glitch where the frame rate gets all messed up when you switch to video timeline, so i would suggest upgrading whatever version of PS you currently have if you can, working with timeline is MUCH easier in my opinion. To change the speed, after you imported the video (photoshop reads only .mp4’s btw, so be sure to check if you have the correct format), click the little play button
and type in whatever number you want: 25% — the lowest value, but you can also speed the gif up by entering a number higher than 100%. Remember to do that BEFORE you convert your gif to a smart object (& before resizing it, bc after applying the changes video automatically converts into a smart object), because once you convert it, the speed can’t be changed without going back a few steps). When you slow a gif down, photoshop “eats” some parts of it (usually towards the end), so you need to extend the gif by dragging it to the right until you reach the end of your scene to fix that
Normal speed
Slowed down to 60%. Sometimes slowed down gifs may look choppy, i explained the trick on how to fix it in pt. 1 (click the first link in the post).
Use plugins. There are so many great ones! For example, i found this plugin called Better Grids: it creates grids and converts them into shapes or frames AUTOMATICALLY based on the numbers you set within the plugin. It’s a lifesaver for me when it comes to photosets! DL (Google drive. M1 Mac users: for the plugin to work, you need to run Photoshop under Rosetta mode first. To do that, right-click the app, go to get Info and check Open using Rosetta if you have that option available)
If your disk space allows, do not convert media. It’s time consuming, messes up the original quality, and usually extremely hard on processors, especially not very powerful ones. Instead, just change the container to open your file in photoshop, It’s faster & less power consuming. I use Subler (mac) and Avidemux (mac & windows) to change the container to mp4, bc for me it’s the simplest ones to use
Handy thansform tool trick. When you try to fit your image into a certain sized canvas, this is probably what you’ll caught yourself doing
there's actually a much faster and easier way to resize stuff. when you activate transform tool, you'll see these boxes with numbers in the top panel
watch what happens when i change one of the numbers
isn't that neat? (make sure that little chain button is checked to mantain proportions. x and y values are for stretching the image horizontally or vertically)
Save document presets. In new document window, type in your desired dimmensions, then click "Save Preset", choose which options you want to save, name it however you want, click ok and you're done — congrats, now you have a saved canvas preset for further use!
So, i hope these little tips were useful. Have fun creating guys 🌸
Found some old art on my friend's discord server, I am really proud of how much detail i put into the poster one.
Oh yea, I remember making the GIF while I was in my sophomore year in high school back in 2021 - 2022. My digital design teacher looked up to me a lot after showing off my talent, and believe me, I didn't know how well I used Adobe Animate and Illustrator. Sadly I couldn't get the programs on my laptop since they are expensive as HELL.
An animated book trailer to “Confessions of an English Opium Eater” that I did for uni, a couple years back
Featuring body horror, creepy vibes, music from crimson peak, as original music that I need to properly commission has not been visiting my mind for those past three years, as well as 20 year old me using Adobe After Effects for the first time.
24/06/2024: watched this again a few days ago, still holds up. Also watched 'White Snake' followed by 'Green Snake' - hoping the studio is making a 'wukong' movie to add to the 'new gods' movie series.
enjoy everyone.
ref: New Gods Nezha Reborn
tool(s): wacom pen
software: adobe photoshop & illustrator cs3.
22/01/2021: Heard Netflix just acquired the 3d animated feature: 'New Gods: Nezha Reborn' - really do hope those reports are true. Would love to see 'White Snake' & 'Jiang Ziya' also appear on that platform. Those movies are great too.
Last one for Monday, cheers and regards from north London.
