“Okay, you can totally say no or whatever, but I kinda sorta need a boyfriend for my high school reunion?”

Buck stills for a moment thinking back through the catalog of his memories of Jamie.

“Uh yeah, a lot happened after you left I guess. Went to therapy, figured out I was repressed, and uh, well- my boyfriend of two years broke up with me 2 weeks before my High School reunion in a small town where the biggest news is that I’m gay so-”

Just then Eddie leans over the railing slightly with a quirked brow, and Buck just looks back up at him and smiles.

“-whatever you do, don't come out on Facebook I guess.” The last bit of his sentence slows as he watches the interaction between them. “Oh shit, I’m really sorry, I would never have asked if I knew you were taken,” Jamie rushes.

Hen, Chimney and Eddie have each investigated different rooms for clues, and are pooling their information in this scene. See if you can form a theory about what happened to [redacted] 😏

“So it turns out that [redacted]’s last known whereabouts were his bedroom,” Chimney says. “The first thing we saw when we walked in was that his suitcase was open and some of his clothes were out on the bed in piles. We think he’d started to unpack. Then we looked on his desk, and we found something interesting. You guys all got those creepy notecards welcoming you to the mansion, right?”

Eddie nods, Hen following suit. How could he forget?

“Well,  [redacted]’s was different. It had the same lines about dying for a vacation and resting in peace, but there was an extra part. It said ‘Please accept this welcome gift as a token of my appreciation.’ And there was an empty box next to it.”

Hen leans back in her chair, crossing her arms. “I didn’t know this killer was giving out gifts. Now I feel cheated.”

Chimney grimaces. “Something tells me we wanted no part of this one. Did either of you find anything that looked like it could’ve been a gift? Like anything special he was wearing, or that he left at the bar?”

Hen shakes her head. “No. Only the clothes he was wearing when he came in. We checked his pockets, too.”

Eddie drums his fingers on the table. “Tell me about the wound. Where on his chest was it? And were there any others that we couldn’t see?”

“They were just to the left of his sternum,” Chimney replies, splaying his hand on his chest to indicate it. “Three holes right through the heart. He didn’t stand a chance. And no, we checked all over. No other wounds.”

“Was there an exit wound of any kind?”

“Yeah, you could see very clearly where the bullet went in and where it came out. We flipped him over and everything.”

Eddie nods, deep in thought. “Do you remember which one looked bigger?”

“It was hard to tell with all the blood. But the wound on the back was a little bit bigger. Why?”

Eddie furrows his brow. “That doesn’t make any sense. Exit wounds are usually bigger than entry wounds. If what you’re saying is true, he wouldn’t have gotten shot through the back.”

“He would’ve gotten shot through the front?” Chimney asks. “Wait, but how is that possible? He would’ve seen the killer with the gun. He would’ve tried to run away, or call for help, or something.”

“It doesn’t make any sense,” Eddie says, wracking his brain for answers. “Might have to throw that theory out the window.”

“And neither of you found any hints about a murder weapon or anything?” Hen asks. 

“I searched the whole room,” Eddie says. “I didn’t see anything.”

“Me neither,” Chimney adds. “And trust me, Detective Lou was thorough.”

Eddie sighs. “Guess we have more work to do. Still no signal?”

“Nope,” Chimney says, throwing his phone dejectedly onto the table. “Total dead zone.” He pauses uncomfortably. “No pun intended.”
