Best Friends & Orange Cassidy vs Miro & Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford Feud (Oct 2020 - Mar 2021)

Hey, I finally finished putting this together! (its just tv stuff, i missed any twitter tweets)

I've supplied (brief) summaries, hyperlinks, and timestamps for each show, mostly to fite/triller where you can directly watch them if you have an AEW+ sub. If you don't, I tried to include some youtube/twitter alternative links where applicable. I've also left the bilibili video ids from before I got fite/triller, they're in blue.

The feud begins. The first match of the show is Best Friends vs FTR. Kip and Penelope are… playing… on an arcade cabinet in the arena. Trent accidentally destroys the cabinet while fighting FTR. Kip and Penelope to run off. After the match ends, they return with Miro who beats up Chuck and Trent. After a commercial break, Miro/Kip have a tag match (squash) against Lee Johnson/Sean Maluta and then do a promo about the broken arcade cabinet.

Returning from supporting Orange Cassidy in his lumberjack match, Best Friends bump into Miro, Kip, and Penelope (MKP, if you will) in the halls. MKP are pretty chill about the whole broken arcade thing and offer them some presents and halloween treats. Chuck and Trent are unamused. MKP then reveal that it was merely a halloween trick™ and beats them up.

Excalibur interviews Trent and Miro ahead of their upcoming match on Wednesday over webcam. It’s 6 minutes long, and mostly Excalibur bearing witness to Trent and Miro arguing. Gonna give a shout out to their distinct webcam setups, lol (Trent is using workout earbuds and sitting in what has to be a large dim empty room, Excalibur is in his bedroom, and Miro is in his gamer office with a headset)

Trent vs Miro. During the entrances they show a clip from the interview from Nov 2nd. Orange and Chuck are hanging out ringside, as well as Kip and Penelope. Eventually Chuck runs off stage while fighting Kip. Dark Order appear to beat up Orange since hes fighting John Silver at the upcoming Full Gear. Miro scares them off and then defeats Trent with his submission hold. After the match, Miro puts Trent back into his Game Over submission and Chuck runs in to save him. Kip was following close behind. Chuck and Trent get both of their asses kicked. Orange attacks MKP and the two sides split off.

Full Gear! Orange has a match against John Silver. Later on, he gets interviewed by Dasha alongside Best Friends. MKP interrupt the interview– Kip’s mad that Orange’s beef with the Dark Order caused them to show up at the Trent vs Miro match, and that they could’ve hurt Penelope. He asks for an apology from Orange and then immediately slaps him anyway. Best Friends get mad on his behalf but Orange casually says everythings cool and walks with the two of them offscreen. Everyone is confused at how chill he is.

The Wrestling Observer article says that Nakazawa sabotaged Trent during his match against Miro way back when, but I’m not sure where that’s specifically mentioned. It’s really just in service of facilitating this goofy comedy match.

It comes down to him, Wardlow, and MJF, and Orange eliminates Wardlow to end the match and qualify for the dynamite diamond ring match next week. Best Friends come out to pick him up congratulate him. Orange flops to the ground like a sack of potatoes. MKP come out to antagonize them and are held back by every referee.

This is a pretty fun match. At the end, Miro comes out to knock Orange out while the ref is preoccupied by ringside chaos, and then MJF takes advantage of this to pin Orange for the win. Best Friends fight with Miro & Kip, but the refs get them away. Miro proceeds to kick the shit out of every security guard.

Chuck challenges Miro to a match next week, and Miro accepts with the stipulation that if Chuck loses he’ll have to be his young boy/rookie. Chuck agrees just to get this stupid beef over with faster.

We get the Charles Taylor butler reveal during Leyla Hirsch vs Penelope Ford. Orange is in the crowd, rather unhappy. After the match, Miro commands Chuck to enter the the ring and bosses him around. He then forces Chuck to look at Orange in the crowd and say into the mic that Miro is his best friend now.

Its one of those little “will u wrestle us at revolution? y/n/maybe :)” asking-someone-out-in-highschool kind of notes. Miro gets mad and says its childish and that Orange Cassidy is such a bad influence on him. But if Chuck comes home he’ll teach him how to be a man. Miro then crumples up the note and eats it, and then spits it back out at Tony.

Over the course of 2022 you’ll occasionally see a guy in the crowd with a cardboard box on his head. That’s Kip Sabian, out of kayfabe he was dealing with recovering from a shoulder injury? It lasted a while and when he recovered he came back as a my chemical romance lookin’ dude who may or may not have thought the cardboard box was controlling him? The gimmick didn’t get over so it got dropped pretty fast. He also had a short feud again against Orange Cassidy in 2023 when Orange had the All-Atlantic Championship– he got under Orange’s skin so bad! Anyway thats neither here nor there. • First of all let’s talk about when y/n and adam

• The two of met in mid 2019 at a party through Britt baker whose been friends y/n since college. At first Adam was hesitant because his fiancé had cheated months prior but all of his sudden hesitation went out the window when he saw.

• hangman recognized her from her time in wwe as Domino banks ( her wrestling style is a mix of Naomi,chyna and Rey mysterio my wrestling faves💕)

• “ Adam this my friend y/n” Britt smiles “ hi nice to meet you Britt told me a lot about you” y/n giggles holding her hand out, oh yeah everything was going to be just fine “ nice to meet you darlin” he said shaking her hand smirking a little as she blushed.

• After that night the texted,FaceTime,meeting up and just overall getting closer not making their relationship official until mid 2021 then married 2023.

• they both have a baby boy named Cairo

Hangman and Swerves feud

• 9/06/23 Aew dynamite is when it all happened y/n was back in her and adams house in Virginia taking it easy since her due date was very close, she smiled softly watching her husband on tv with a proud smile that was until swerve walked out.

She got worried cause from what everyone else has told her he was a real piece of work biting her lip watching Adam and swerve go back & forth, y/n let out a breath of relief as Adam left the ring only to gasp as swerve made crude remarks about her and their unborn child baiting hangman back into the ring only to get attacked by Brian cage.

•she immediately called the young bucks and thankful when Matt answered the phone “ He’s okay but livid y/n where so sorry we had no idea swerve was going say what he said” Matt told her on the phone feeling extremely bad which made her smile appreciating the kind words happy that adam had friends like them in his corner. “ thank you Matt I appreciate the kind words…can you guys make sure he gets home safely?” She said more worried about her husband than what she she’d had just seen.

• One private jet ride home courtesy of the young bucks and Tony khan Adam made it home safely around 1:00 in the morning once he walked into the house quietly and locked up behind himself, he was surprised to see y/n was awake before he could ask why she was up she hugged him tightly which made him realize that she must’ve seen his segment but smiled softly as she hugged him tightly “ thank you darlin” he whispered kissing her head holding her close letting her warmth comfort him.

• a week later admits what happened between the two men Y/n had given birth to their beautiful Carmel drop baby boy Cairo page who was a perfect mix of her and Adam despite the craziness hangman was extremely happy for this moment. Not just for their newborn child but also Y/n she was truly his rock before & during the pregnancy she was his light & protector not letting him doubt or harbor himself but now he has to lights of his life Her & his child.

A few months later

• Just when Y/n thought things were going to calm & subside between her husband & swerve she was wrong things just kept from bad to worse from confrontations to brawls it was getting out of hand. She even noticed how Adam would be more feral at times which concerned her but she couldn’t even blame him cause what swerve was doing was not okay at all,especially after Cheating and beating Adam at the wrestle dream ppv via interference to which she was present for backstage since giving birth.

• But on unfortunate night of Dynamite 10/25/23 in Hangman’s hometown swerve took things extremely too far Y/n was in her and hangman’s bedroom breast feeding Cairo when heard the front door downstairs open and voices that weren’t adams or the elite. As she slowly got out of bed holding the infant close to her chest she froze hearing swerve and prince nana how the hell did they find their house ? in that moment she was shuddering with disgust but quickly locked the door and hid in the closet with Cairo who whimpered feeling his mother’s distress “ shhh it’s okay it’s okay little one”. She said soothing the infant before looking at her phone as Brandi and the rest of the Aew roster sent her texts Warning her what she had already confirmed but what made her blood run cold is seeing it was being broadcasted on dynamite knowing good and well Adam was watching, quickly she called her good friend and former wwe coworker Aj styles who lived near by and came to her rescue scaring off swerve and nana.

• A few hours later and some speeding tickets Adam rushed to aj’s house where Y/n & Cairo were staying thankful for the wwe stars help “ Baby Girl…” He said hugging her tightly his heart breaking feeling her Trembling despite her being strong willed this moment really shook her “ we’re okay…we’re okay just hold me please” her voice cracks as he squeezes her tightly not letting go Vowing to make swerve pay for what he had done.

• a week later since the whole break in Y/n found Adam outside in the backyard on the patio drinking a beer staring off into space knowing he was replaying everything had transpired leading to this vile act. Careful sitting on his lap she cradles his bearded face in her hands looking deeply into his blue ocean eyes before squishing his cheeks getting a chuckle out of him, she leaned in kissing him deeply yet softly as if she silently was telling him they’re okay… she’s okay and their baby boy is okay to which he completely understood holding her close as they both watched the sunset knowing that he gained more than what swerve could have.

FULL GEAR TIME ⚙️ ⚙️🔥🔥

• It was the time everyone was waiting for and boy nobody was holding back Y/n was watching backstage in her cowgirl boujee attire on the edge of her seat watching her husband going apesh** on swerve months prior before the ppv she had been helping Adam both mentally and physically preparing him, for whatever swerve had up his sleeve and the rest of the roster was more than happy to help which he was thankful for.

• Throughout the match it was getting gut turning and stomach turning practically murder between hangman & swerve both men pulling out all the stops not giving up, which worried and made Y/n terrified of her husband’s safety especially after his concussion scare in the ring but she knew it was his fighting spirit that kept him going.

At one point towards the end match Y/n headed towards the tunnels after having Brandi keep an eye on Cairo so the infant wasn’t exposed to the bloody violence, giving the sound guy’s the 1…2…3 she ran out as her entrance music “Monster by Kanye west”blasted through the arena.

• every one went crazy despite loving the warm welcome she had made a b line for prince nana attacking him repeatedly as Adam catches his breath smiling big watching his badass wife, which gives him the perfect time attack swerve while he was distracted.

“Buckshot!!! Buckshot!!!” The commentary said as everyone was going crazy as hangman hit his finisher on swerve and went for the cover finally ending swerves reign of terror,Y/n screams happily proud of her tears of running down her cheeks as hangman hugged her tightly once getting out the ring all his nights of anger and frustration was finally over.

AEW Dynamite 1/25/23

Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara vs. Ricky Starks and Action Andretti -- Fine match. Jericho goes for a Codebreaker, but Starks catches him and lifts him up into a big sit-out powerbomb. Roshambo from Starks to Jericho on the floor! Garcia takes the bat to Andretti's face, allowing Guevara to land the GTH for the pinfall. Rating: 3 

We get a video tribute for Jay Briscoe next. 

Darby Allin (c) vs. Buddy Matthews for the TNT Championship -- Big jumping knee from Matthews out of the gate!!! Matthews slings Darby around, throwing him into the turnbuckle, dropping him hard on his back on the apron, getting him into powerbomb position and letting him hang as Matthews repeatedly swings his head into the barricade!! Matthew then goes for the powerbomb, but Darby reverses into a hurricanrana, sending Matthews into the barricade. Meteora off the top to the apron by Matthews! Darby with a stunner, then a Coffin Drop to the outside!! Big sit-out powerbomb by Matthews, but Darby kicks out! Reverse rana by Darby!!! Darby lands a beautiful crucifix bomb into a crucifix pin, but Matthews kicks out! Buckle bomb and a stomp to Darby's head by Matthews! Darby kicks out! Pumphandle by Matthews, but Darby reverses into a roll up! Matthews kicks out. Code Red by Darby!! Matthews kicks out again! Darby reverses a superplex attempt by Matthews into Scorpion Death Drop off the top! Matthews escapes the pin attempt, getting under the bottom rope. Darby goes to the top, and Matthews tries to follow, but Darby stops him with strikes and kicks!! Matthews is draped over the second rope, and Darby lands a Coffin Drop to the back and the back of the head of Matthews! Darby covers Matthews near the ropes, but Darby pulls Matthews' arms and legs in to prevent a rope break. 1, 2, 3!!! Darby retains!!!! Great match!!!!!!! Both guys were great!!! Rating: 3.5 

After the match, Joe is on the big screen. He says Darby stole the TNT title from him, and it was the worst mistake of Darby's career.

Jungle Boy and Hook vs. Ethan Page and Matt Hardy -- Beautiful gut wrench suplex and t-bone suplex from Hook to Page! Hardy has Jungle Boy down and out, setting up for Twist of Fate, but Page insists that Hardy tag him in. This allows Jungle Boy time to recover and lock in the Snare Trap on Page for the submission victory. This was fine. Furthers the story of Matt being under the control of Ethan Page anyway. Hook was great here, as usual. Rating: 2.25 

Family therapy with the Gunns and The Acclaimed. The Gunns tell Billy that the dream of the AEW tag titles was supposed to be fulfilled with them, not with The Acclaimed. Blah, blah, blah. Billy says he can't take this anymore and asks the Gunns what they want. They say they want the AEW Tag Team Championships. 

Backstage, Renee asks Adam Page what is next for him. He says what's next is knocking out Moxley in Ohio. The match is set for Dayton next week. 

Bryan Danielson vs. Brian Cage -- Cage basically dominates the match, targeting the arm that he was paid to break, until Danielson finally turns it around with a superplex, roundhouse kicks, and stomps to the head. Ankle lock by Danielson into a leg-capture German suplex, but Cage kicks out. Cage lands a buckle bomb and then goes for another powerbomb, but Danielson reverses with a roll up and gets the three count. Eh. Not the decisive way I would have wanted this match to end. Solid match anyway. Rating: 3

After the match, Cage continues his attack on Danielson's arm. MJF comes out, shoves a guy at the timekeeper's table, and takes the chair he was sitting in. MJF hands the chair to Cage, who wraps it around Danielson's arm and drives Danielson into the ring post. MJF tells Cage to put Danielson in the ring, then MJF stomps Danielson's arm and rains down right hands. Cage wraps the chair around Danielson's arm again, and MJF goes to the top rope, getting ready to stomp on the arm, but out comes Takeshita!!!! MJF runs and Takeshita takes Cage down with a jumping knee. The doctor is out to check on Danielson.

Backstage with Renee and the doctor, Danielson says he doesn't care about the doctor's medical opinion, he just wants to know if he can wrestle or not. The doctor says he shouldn't. Danielson does not care. He says he wrestled for 60 minutes with a separated shoulder before. He then addresses MJF. "You know what I think is behind the mask? Fear. Because you’re afraid of getting hurt, you’re afraid of being exposed, and you’re afraid that I am going to take the one thing that you value more than anything in this world. But when I do, I’m not just going to expose you. I'm going to show the whole world that what's behind that mask is a fraud." 

Toni Storm vs. Ruby Soho -- Great stuff from Ruby here. Nice elbow/chop combo, jumping knee. Heel antics from Storm, faking an injury to bait Ruby in. Britt enters to distract Storm, and Ruby lands Destination Unknown for the win. This was fine, but I really didn’t care. Rating: 2

MJF promo from backstage!!!! “My apologies for having to speak to you people in a dimly lit, locked room, but unfortunately some people can’t seem to control their emotions around here. Takeshita, I think you’re really talented, but unfortunately, you’re a little bit smooth-brained. You think it’s a good idea to dance with the devil, and I am here to tell you, you can’t match my tempo, so stay out of my business or there will be consequences. Speaking of, Bryan Danielson the American Dragon, how’s that wing of yours doing? Bet it’s hanging on by a thread. But you’re gonna keep on going, you’re gonna keep marching toward March 5th at Revolution that one-hour Iron Man Match, because you’re so brave, you’re a valiant warrior, you’re a hero. At least, that’s what the fans think of you, but I know better. I know that you're obsessed, just like I’m obsessed, with the Triple B, the AEW World Championship. This belt gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Ths belt stands for the simple fact that all my blood, sweat, hard work, tears, and yes my sins, they were all worth it. This belt turns my catchphrase into a fact. This belt does make me better than you, and you know it. This belt is the only thing I've ever had in my life that makes me feel whole. And you wanna take that away from me, Bryan? Why? Don’t you have enough, man? Loving family, adoring fanbase, first-ballot hall of fame career? But no, you need to take away from Max. I know the real reason why, Bryan. Because just like me, you’ve got a hole in your soul, and you’re trying to fill it. But I’m not the one to get that job done, Byan. Bad things happen to people who mess with MJF in this company. Matter of fact, I remember knocking out some big British guy, kind of looked like Ellen DeGeneres on meth, it’s on the tip of my tongue. It’s not important.” Lmaooooo. “What is important is that you know this. Tonight was just the tip of the iceberg, and if you keep threatening to take away the one thing in this world that brings me happiness, you're going to find out that tonight, that was only physical pain. Physical pain is fleeting. You don’t want me to get to the mental pain, Bryan, because that really leaves a scar.” GO OFF, MAX!!!!!!!!!

MJF says Tony Khan has put out an open contract for anyone to face Danielson next week, so he made a call to someone who loves inflicting pain and scientifically dismantling people limb from limb. He says it’s been a fun ride, but he’s afraid it’s over. He says roll the clip. They play a video package of Tim Thatcher!!! Hell yeah buddy, can’t wait for that match!!!! 

Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Lethal -- Very emotional moment here. Huge chop exchange!!!! Blockbuster by Mark off the apron to the floor! Huge elbow by Mark off the top to the outside puts Lethal through the timekeeper's table!! Mark avoids a Lethal Injection attempt and responds with huge lariat!! Mark goes for the Jay Driller, but Lethal reverses, then Mark reverses with another lariat!!!!! Mark finally lands the Jay Driller for the pinfall!! Very good match here. It was great to see Mark. Kind of sad that they wait until Jay is gone to allow the Briscoes on AEW TV. Rating: 3.25

Lethal and Mark hug after the match. Current and former ROH wrestlers fill the stage after the match. Mark ends the show with the ROH tag titles held high in the air.

Monday Night Raw (6/19):

Kayden Carter & Katana Chance defeated Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green. Katana pinned Sonya after hitting the Afterparty. match length-2:01.

WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley was set to take on Natalya in a non-title match, but Rhea attacked Natalya before the match could begin.

In a backstage interview, Raquel Rodriguez was being interviewed ahead of her Money in the Bank qualifying match. Raquel said that she would win the contract and cash in on Rhea Ripley, before being interrupted by Rhea coming backstage through the curtain. The two stared each other down, before Raquel made her entrance.

Trish Stratus defeated Raquel Rodriguez by disqualification to qualify for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Trish won after Becky Lynch came out and attacked Zoey Stark, and in the chaos also attacked Trish, resulting in the DQ finish. match length-5:55.

NXT Gold Rush part 1 (6/20):

There was a video package of Gigi Dolin, followed by Kiana James talking trash about Gigi. Kiana called Gigi mediocre, and said that she is fueled by winning.

Duke Hudson hosted a pep rally to celebrate Thea Hail becoming the number one contender for the NXT Women's Championship. Thea was interrupted by NXT Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton, who called Thea dumb and crazy. Thea got Tiffany in the Kimura Lock, before Tiffany escaped the ring, and Thea stood tall with the title in her hand.

Cora Jade defeated Dana Brooke by referee stoppage. At one point, medical officials tried to remove Dana from the ring after her knee buckled, but she got off of the stretcher and re-entered the ring. Cora locked in a Single Leg Crab, and the official made the decision to call for the bell. match length-10:46.

Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson defeated Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz. During the match, Elektra Lopez and Lola Vice came out and watched from the ramp. Lash Legend scored the pinfall win with a pump kick. match length-3:22.

A match between Gigi Dolin and Kiana James was announced for week two of NXT Gold Rush.

AEW Dynamite (6/21):

Kris Statlander defeated Taya Valkyrie to retain the TBS Championship. Kris landed Big Bang Theory to get the win, and successfully defend the TBS Championship once again. match length-8:55.

WWE Main Event (6/22):

Dana Brooke defeated Xia Li. Dana pinned Xia after hitting a somersault neckbreaker. match length-5:07.

Friday Night SmackDown (6/23)

Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler (WWE) defeated Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn (NXT) to become the new Unified WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. The match ended with Ronda locking in an armbar and forcing Isla to tap out, while Shayna submitted Alba with the Kirifuda Clutch at the same time. match length-10:22.

After the match, Ronda and Shayna were confronted by Raquel Rodriguez, who said that she wanted a rematch for the titles that she had been forced to vacate. Raquel was then joined by a returning Liv Morgan, who has been out of action since the May 12 episode of SmackDown when she suffered a shoulder injury.

Charlotte Flair defeated Lacey Evans. Charlotte hit Lacey with a big boot, before she submitted her with the Figure 8. match length-2:43.

After the match, Charlotte stayed in the bridge and held Lacey in the figure 8. Charlotte was then attacked by WWE Women's Champion Asuka.

WWE official Adam Pearce told Bianca Belair that she would be barred from ringside for the WWE Women's Championship match next week on SmackDown, in order to prevent her from getting involved.

NXT Level Up (6/23):

Jacy Jeyne defeated Ivy Nile. match length-5:19.

AEW Rampage (6/23):

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament first round: Skye Blue defeated Anna Jay A.S. Skye defeated Anna after hitting Code Blue, picking up her second win in a row in her hometown of Chicago. She will face the winner of Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. vs. Ruby Soho (which takes place on the June 28 episode of Dynamite). match length-8:17.

AEW Collision (6/24):

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament first round: Willow Nightingale defeated Nyla Rose. Willow pinned Nyla after hitting the Doctor Bomb. She will face the winner of Athena vs. Billie Starkz (which takes place at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door: Zero Hour). match length-8:54.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door (6/25): Disclaimer: I didn't actually watch Forbidden Door, but I got updates and results from the internet, as well as a friend of mine who was watching.

Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament first round: Athena defeated Billie Starkz. Athena pinned Billie after hitting a fireman's carry into a spinning double knees to the face. In addition to competing in AEW, Athena is currently the Ring of Honor Women's World Champion. She will face NJPW Strong Women's Champion Willow Nightingale in the semi-finals. match length-7:50.

AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm defeated. Willow Nightingale to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship. Toni was aided by the rest of The Outcasts, Ruby Soho and Saraya, in the opening of the match, but the duo were eventually ejected from ringside. Toni ultimately was able to get the pinfall win over Willow, after racking the eyes of her challenger and following it up with Storm Zero. match length-10:30.

Other news & updates from last week:

On The Pat Mcafee Show on Tuesday, June 20, Paul Heyman announced that WWE Fastlane will be held on Saturday, October 7 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Fastlane takes the October Premium Live Event spot that was held by Extreme Rules last year. This will be the first Fastlane event since 2021. Prior to that year, Fastlane was held annually from 2015 until 2019, with the 2017 and 2018 events being exclusive to Raw and SmackDown, respectively.

There is a press conference planned for directly after Money in the Bank this weekend. WWE have not held a post show press conference since WrestleMania, as the media events for Backlash and Night of Champions were both held the day before the show.

In the hours leading up to SmackDown on June 23, fans on Twitter pointed out the the match between Bayley and Shotzi for Bayley’s Money in the Bank ladder match spot had been removed from previews for the show. This match did not end up taking place on SmackDown, and was replaced by Charlotte Flair vs. Lacey Evans. It's unclear why Bayley vs. Shotzi was scrapped, but Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful did note on Twitter that Smackdown got "Vinced" tonight, saying that a lot of changes had been made.

Liv Morgan made her return on the June 23, 2023 episode of SmackDown. Liv had been out of action due to a torn shoulder, and recovered much faster than had originally been expected.

During the Women's Tag Team Title unification match on SmackDown last Friday, Michael Cole stated that the Women's Tag Team Championships will now be defended on all three brands, which was the original intention for the titles when they were created.

Speaking of the unification match, shortly after SmackDown ended last week, the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship was officially listed as "retired" on the WWE website. Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn are officially listed as the final NXT Women's Tag Team Champions, with their reign lasting 83 days.

On last week’s edition of The SmackDown Lowdown, it was announced that Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler will defend the Undisputed Women’s Tag Team titles against former champions Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan.

At Stardom Sunshine on June 25, Giulia (who is currently one-third of the reigning Artist of Stardom Champions), called out NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Willow Nightingale and issued a challenge for the title.

Following her match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 25, the NJPW official Twitter account posted a video of NJPW Strong Women's Champion Willow Nightingale, who accepted Giulia's challenge. It is currently unclear when this match will take place.

It was officially announced on Sunday, June 25 that AEW All Out will be held on Sunday, September 3 at the United Center in Chicago. The pay-per-view will take place just one week after AEW All In, which is on Sunday, August 27 in London.

Things to look forward to this week:

This Monday, June 26 on Monday Night Raw, a women's Money in the Bank summit will be held.

This Tuesday, June 27, NXT Gold Rush continues. After winning a number one contender battle royal a few weeks ago, 19 year old Thea Hail challenges NXT Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton for the title. This will be Thea's very first opportunity at a title in her professional wrestling career.

Also this Tuesday at NXT Gold Rush, Gigi Dolin goes one-on-one with Kiana James.

This Wednesday, June 28 on AEW Dynamite, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. takes on Ruby Soho of The Outcasts in the final first round match of the Women's Owen Hart Cup Tournament.

This Friday, June 30 on SmackDown live from London, WWE Women's Champion Asuka defends the title against 14 time world champion Charlotte Flair.

This Saturday, July 1 live from the O2 Arena in London, it's WWE Money in the Bank. The show will have a special start time of 3 pm Eastern time.

New Japan Pro Wrestling

Let’s be honest, the biggest news for NJPW right now came last night on AEW Dynamite. AEW owner Tony Khan and NJPW president Takami Ohbari were on hand for the announcement, which was actually made by both Adam Cole and Jay White, for a joint NJPW X AEW show called Forbidden Door, a PPV event from the United Center in Chicago on Sunday 6/26/2022. Of course, this is exactly my area, so yes I am planning to be there. It will be on PPV on Bleacher Report Live in the USA, NJPWWorld in Japan and FITE TV elsewhere.

Tickets go on sale 5/6/2022. No matches have been announced yet, but there are several possibilities (my dream match being the least likely, sadly).

This will be the biggest NJPW show in America since the pandemic; we still don’t know what, if anything, will ever become of the planned Wrestle Dynasty show that was supposed to take place in Madison Square Garden that the pandemic scuppered.

Also, Adam Cole v. Tomohiro Ishii will happen on this Friday’s edition of AEW Rampage (that I think already happened last night).

More announcements about this as they come.

Meanwhile, the Golden Fight Series tour continued yesterday. It was not shown live, but is now available on NJPWWorld.

YOH demanded a singles match against Hiromu for Wrestling Dontaku 2022 on 5/1/2022 in Fukuoka, which has now been added to the card. BUSHI will take Hiromu’s place in the 6-man tag with Shingo and Tatsumi Fujinami going against Suzuki-gun. Speaking of Shingo, he and Taichi both proposed their stipulations for the KOPW2022 match on Monday 4/25/2022 – Taichi wants a “30-count match,” where you have to pin your opponent for 30 counts on aggregate to win. Shingo offered a “Takagi-Style Three Fall Match,” where you have to pin your opponent for three falls, but the first fall is a 1-count, second is a 2-count, and then the 3-count for the last one. Taichi’s is currently winning the polling which ends on Saturday 4/23/2022.

Looking ahead on NJPWWorld, two wrestler anniversary shows are taking place on the platform soon, both as Y3000 PPVs. TAKA Michinoku is celebrating 30 years as a wrestler with a TAKA & Taichi Mania 2.5 show on 5/6/2022 from Korakuen Hall. From the poster art, it looks like Jun Kasai will be there as well as the other Suzuki-gun juniors. Also at Korakuen Hall, on 5/12/2022, will be a Tatsumi Fujinami 50th Anniversary event that advertises Shingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi and Yuji Nagata from NJPW, but also wrestlers as varied as Yoshiaki Fujiwara, Masakatsu Funaki, BJW’s Yuji OKabayashi, and KAZMA SAKAMOTO among others. These are actual PPV events, not sure if or when they will be available for free on NJPWWorld.

The tour continues tomorrow through the weekend, with shows that will not be streamed, but all have Elimination Match main events, so there’s a chance those mains will end up on VOD? It’s been known to happen.

This was Dragon Dia’s first loss of any kind since he lost his mask back in December, and then would win both the Open The Brave and Twin Gate titles within 24 hours in January. Of course there was fuckery by Shun Skywalker to get here, as he continues to torment Jason Lee. YAMATO and Kzy both declared they would win the rights for Jason Lee on Monday at Korakuen Hall.

Shun then goaded Dia into accepting the Open The Twin Gate challenge at Dead Or Alive on 5/5/2022, so now Dia will have to defend the Brave Gate against SB KENTo, AND the Twin Gate with Yuki Yoshioka against Shun & Diamante. Ryo Saito tried to talk him out of it, but Dia insisted. Shun then asked why he’s still called Dragon Dia now that he is unmasked.

Susumu Yokosuka demanded to know the stipulation for the Open The Dream Gate title match at Dead Or Alive, but KAI said he would reveal it on Monday instead. Hip Hop Kikuta reiterated he will not be joining Z-Brats when he returns at Dead Or Alive. Strong Machine J getting a bit of a push here.

It was announced that both Super Shisa and Gamma would be leaving Dragon Gate at the end of this month. Shisa, who’s spent most of his career in Toryumon/Dragon Gate, looks to wrestle elsewhere as he recovers from injuries. Gamma, who started in Osaka Pro and joined DG in 2006, will be retiring. It was thought the opposite might happen, with Gamma rejoining the new Osaka Pro, but instead Gamma will be holding his own retirement show on 8/14/2022 in Izumi City Plaza.

DG take tomorrow off, and hold house shows Saturday and Sunday, before Monday’s Korakuen Hall outing that should maybe settle this whole Jason Lee business.

Shingo Takagi will be participating in GLEAT’s G PROWRESTLING Ver.25 show 5/18/2022 from Tokyo Korakuen Hall, teaming with CIMA in a special 25th Anniversary match for CIMA as a wrestler. This is… interesting, as I was under the impression that tensions between CIMA and Shingo were part of the reason Shingo left Dragon Gate in 2018. Maybe time does heal all wounds, or maybe I was misinformed. One of the two.

GLEAT’s next show that I can see booked is 5/3/2022 from Osaka.

Tomoya Hirata & Toru Sugiura retained the King Of FREEDOM Tag Team titles today against Daisuke Masaoka & Kamui in a fluorescent light tube deathmatch at FREEDOMS’s show from Tokyo Shinkiba 1st-RING earlier today.

AEW Dark and Dark Elevation

I’ve been trying to catch up on AEW from late March to present, and Dynamite was pretty fun, but these Dark and Dark Elevations have been kind of a slog.   I usually watch Dark in batches like this, so I think the fault mainly likes with Elevation for doubling the backlog.  

I finished DE#8 last night, so I only have this past Monday’s episode left to watch.   From what I’ve seen the show is fine.   Paul Wight seems to be fitting in well on commentary, and Tony Schiovane called the early months of Dark, so really, this is just More AEW Dark.   And that’s kind of the problem, because they promoted Elevation like it was something different.   

I thought the idea was that Elevation was supposed to emphasize the mid-tier performers as they competed for airtime on Dynamite.  That was kind of what Dark had become, as embodied by Scorpio Sky’s “Throne” promo last year.   The implication was that Dark wasn’t just a B-show, or bonus footage that they couldn’t make room for on Dynamite.   Dark was the place where all the wrestlers had to go when they couldn’t get booked on the A-show, and it was every wrestler’s goal to try to build up their win-loss record to get a spot on TV.  So Elevation seemed to offer this middle-tier, where if you won a lot of matches on Dark you could go wrestle more serious competition on Elevation, and maybe if you did well there you could get on Dynamite.  

Maybe I just misunderstood the concept, but Elevation just feels like More Dark, which defeats the point of the name of the show, if nothing else.    The Dark Order appears on all three shows, for example.    So does the Hardy Family Office.    So does Team Taz.   So does the Factory.    But then you’ve got Fuego Del Sol and Alex Gracia and Peter Avalon’s group, who are YouTube-only.   There’s an implied pecking order, but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with what show people are on.  Fuego del Sol could easily appear on Dynamite, but it’d only be so he could get destroyed in a squash match, so it doesn’t matter. 

So it feels like Dark and Dark Elevation are just B-shows, like they seemed to be from the beginning.    The thing is, they used to do stuff with Dark from time to time.  I always wished they would do more, but they had a few running storylines and feuds that rewarded you for watching the show.  Now, that’s mostly a thing of the past.  I see a few segments with Avalon and Nemeth trying to make their stable sexier, but there’s no sense that it’s going anywhere.  It’s mostly squash matches, like WWF Superstars in 1990.    And THAT wouldn’t be so bad, except they’ve been making these Dark episodes over 90 minutes long, and now we have Dark Elevation doing the same thing.   Superstars was only an hour a week, if I remember right.   If you wanted more, you could check out WWF Wrestling Challenge, except they never advanced any storylines on Wrestling Challenge, so it really only mattered if you missed Superstars that week.

I have no idea what these shows are trying to be, other than just 28 wrestling matches a week that they wanted to show off but there wasn’t room on TV.   Is AEW’s YouTube channel pulling down huge numbers because of this?   If it is, then why don’t they make the matches more important?   Have Fuego del Sol feud with Peter Avalon.    Have Brian Cage lose the FTW title and try to get it back.  Have someone score an upset on Nyla Rose.   Do some matches where it’s not immediately obvious who’s going to win.    DE#8 had a nice Abadon vs. Ryo Miznami match and I was like “Oh, yeah, they should be doing this all the time.”

Maybe things will change when they get to do shows in front of live crowds again.   I’m not sure how they plan to tape THREE HOURS of dark matches alongside Dynamite every week in front of a live crowd, but at least there’d be an audience to weigh in on Layla Hirsch’s performances.   They did a video package about her recently, and it told us a few things about her, but there’s really no payoff to her story.   She’s very happy to be in AEW, and she just keeps plugging away on Dark, but there’s no sense that she’s close to breaking through to Dynamite, or even if that’s her immediate goal.   I think Alex Gracia has a cool look, but it never amounts to anything.   She just stays in the same role every week.    It’d be nice if the fans could force the issue, and AEW would have to recognize someone in that talent pool as being worthy of promotion.

All I know is that I don’t have time to watch 5-6 hours of AEW every week.  I think what I may start doing is only checking out the women’s matches on Dark and Dark Elevation.    That way I can keep up without actually sitting through the entire show.   Let me just run down the lineup for Dark #87

I mean look at this card.    They have the temerity to call the last four matches a “Quadruple Main Event.”   Like it’s fucking WrestleMania or something.  Dolph Ziggler’s brother is in the main event?  Danny Limelight is in the main event?  Fuck outta here. 

But if I pare it down to the women’s matches, it’s a lot more appealing.    Hey, they’re letting the Bunny wrestle!   That sounds like a good time.  And I might as well check out the Lance Archer match and the PAC stuff while I’m at it.     But the rest of this show looks like the other twelve shows I watched all this past week.    It’s a mess.
