... I have no explanation for this one other than the voices won. I was struck with a vision while re-reading AFLH and now I feel both giddy and some kind of heartache I don't know how to describe (cuteness aggression? maybe??) Scott and Ennard just have that effect on me, their whole character development, both individual, in relation to other characters or with each other, is so nice to see and just makes everything they do in the current book so much more endearing once you remember it all. Well-- it's not exactly Ennard but it is! I mean, it's Ben. It works! Anyways--

The moment when they finally crossed that threshold into being truly together being ironically the moment where Scott sees Ben as he is inside- that was unintentional, I'll admit. But it worked out exactly how I'm glad it did. 🥺 ...Okay, admittedly it's late and none of that might make sense. But the point is, I'm imagining that's this moment and you captured it perfectly.

Also, I know that cuteness aggression feeling. I never have a word for it but it's like that "GAH" roll around on floor feeling. XD

Okay. So. I bought Gardner’s first book, A Friend Like Henry, from a charity shop when I was a teenager – my school counsellor had brought up the possibility of autism to me, and I was curious about it – and I honestly think that AFLH contributed to me putting off getting a diagnosis for over a year because I didn’t at all see myself reflected in the ableist and frankly rude way she wrote about her children or the other young people she met through her work.

This trend continues in this book – I’ve been liveblogging some of the more egregious things that the author writes (you can find that post here) and I can easily say that this book, together with its prequel, is the worst book I’ve read so far this year. Even when Gardner is trying to say something nice about disabled or autistic people, she falls right into the trap of toxic positivity (e.g. assuming that a group of friends knowing about inclusion means that nobody at the table is disabled – not even the blind woman who just lost her guide dog!)

I really have nothing else to say about these books, except that 1) they don’t even deserve to go to a charity shop imo, they’re full of toxic ableist nonsense that belongs in a bin, and 2) if you only read one book about autism, or hell, if you only read one non-fiction book this year, don’t let it be one of these! There’s so many better books out there than these; I really wish I hadn’t wasted my time (and money!) on this one.

South Houston Animal Shelter director faces more allegations from former animal control officers

We know that there are many shocking news reports in the Houston, TX area. One of the stories has something to do with animals. On Thursday, shelter director Jana Martinez offered to give the media personnel a tour of the shelter on Friday. Then, they got the tour, but Martinez wasn't there. In addition, they were met by an animal control officer, the city's HR representative, and the only shelter employee they saw during their visit. Moreover, there are a lot of great dogs at the shelter. However, Martinez told them not one dog has been adopted from the shelter since 2022. For the most part, the shelter was clean but smelled like bleach.

sorry if this has been asked before, but do you have any particular voice claims for the Home series?

Yes, I actually do have a few! Anyone I don't mention doesn't have a voice claim.

Mike:

The story about Mike's voice is kinda funny. A couple of months after I began the fic, I think? The original Final Nights came out- you know, the game where Mike gets chased around by the Puppet- and I LOVED his voice.

That sort of rough but sardonic edge. It was perfect! ^_^ So, I always imagined Mike's voice as sounding like that!

Alas, when the Final Nights Redux came out, the voice was changed. Instead sounding a lot younger. XD >.< Needless to say, I didn't update Mike's voice to the redux version. I always imagine him with that deeper, rougher edge.

Marionette:

After some back and forth, Mari's voice claim became Elijah Wood. I've liked a lot of his stuff, but I'm a huge fan of 9 and that softer sort of voice definitely works for him.

Though Mari does have a slight English accent, like his father and sister- it's not strong, but there's the edge of it.

I have a clip of an Elijah Wood character saying, "My father died today," and laughing like a maniac that I use as a reference. XD

Chance:

Chance's voice claim/character inspiration was based quite a bit off of John Mahoney. If you're a Fraiser fan, he played Martin Crane. I am, in fact, a big Fraiser fan, which is why-

James Wight:

's claim is Kelsey Grammar. Known for Fraiser, better known as Sideshow Bob, lol.

Ennard:

Ennard doesn't have a voice claim, per say, but over the course of the series his voice has become a little less shrill. This seems like a minor thing, but it's a mix of him not remember Funtime Freddy's voice dead-on and him having to tone it down a little. It does still sound close enough to Sun's to be of note.

Elizabeth Afton:

Circus Baby's 'human' voice, which we've only heard maybe once or twice, was inspired by Susie Brann, who did Alice's voice for American Mcgee's Alice and Madness Returns. Big fan of both those games and it felt like the perfect fit.

Jake:

Jake initially had his own sort of voice, but ever since Ruin came out, I kinda imagine him sounding like Eclipse. It makes sense considering that he really IS Eclipse, in a weird ironic way. Since he and Andrew spent so long together, it would make sense for them to end up with similar sounding voices considering how much is projection.

If I remember any more, I shall post them!
