Quirk Apprehension Test Arc
I think I am gonna go hardass Aizawa route, but one who treats his students equally. He'll still be an asshole, but I think I'm gonna set him up to get called out.
His introduction doesn't change much. He's still in his sleeping bag and still does the QAT instead of orientation. But he has the 1A do two separate tests; one to test their quirk usage and the other to test their physical ability. And he doesn't threaten to expel them (that was never a stipulation of the test), this is just a way for him to find out what needs to be worked on.
Izuku does well on the physical tests, but struggles a lot with the quirk tests. The ball scene still happens, but Aizawa a) doesn't threaten to expel Izuku and b) tears into Bakugou about using his quirk irresponsibly and against his classmates.

So, the reason I had Aizawa do a physical test too is because I find it so weird how quirk oriented he is in canon. Someone who literally erases quirks and isn't given any physical advantage from his should be aware that a) heroes should be proficient without relying on a quirk and b) a strong quirk isn't needed to be an efficient hero. He should also have a distaste for people who are reckless with their quirks (which he does have for Izuku but not Bakugou?? Weird). This is where him being inconsistent really comes into play.
(It's like Horikoshi goes out of his way to have canon reinforce quirkism, it's weird)
Don't get me wrong, he's still an asshole. He still thinks Izuku was being lazy with his quirk and he still thinks that Izuku is also to blame for him and Bakugou's awful relationship. But he's way harder on Bakugou than in canon and disciplines him more. Like I said, he's going to get called out for his judgmental behavior and arrogance.
To add to this, Iida and Uraraka seeing Bakugou about to attack Izuku is the start to both of them really disliking him. Iida already didn't like him because of his feet on the desk (based Iida, I can't stand people who do this), but Uraraka, who grew up poor, can't stand his entitled and privileged attitude. She tries to see the good in everyone, but Bakugou makes it hard. She hates that he looks down on others and thinks he's better than everyone else. She would love to knock him down a few pegs.

Dorian Red Gloria, the Earl of Gloria, otherwise known as Eroica the Phantom Thief, is one of the most vibrant characters ever written in manga, and my personal favorite. A respected English aristocrat, a revered art thief, Dorian’s aspiration is to live a life full of – capital R – Romantic splendor, defined by thrill, desires and adventures, bordering on hedonism.
Agile, dynamic and fun, Dorian steals not for money but for said vision, as he thinks stealing art is the most Romantic profession – to the displeasure of his long-suffering accountant and countless museum curators around the world. Extremely intelligent, spontaneous, and armed with complete fearlessness, he outsmarts and baffles even the most cold-blooded, hard-boiled, thoroughly-trained international superspies. Other than those attributes, Dorian’s power is derived from being a people person. He has a charisma and wit that can persuade, trick, or provoke anybody.

With my love for this character, I went into this musical expecting to be severely disappointed. I thought at best he would be a gay stereotype, and at worst, boring. But to my surprise, Dorian in this musical is actually fairly decently played. Most of his scenes and lines are kept, and the actor himself does bring some life into the role. He sings, he dances, he delivers the sass required. And I think the decision to have him sing enka in the tank scene is still in-character.
Direction
My only criticism would be that, compared to the original manga, Dorian is not depicted and portrayed with nearly enough power. First of all, the actor is frequently seen very relaxed, and unfortunately, it translates to slight slouches in his posture. But more importantly, due to various factors like staging, writing and productions, some scenes, while kept, were changed massively.
Let’s take this scene where Dorian supplies Klaus with a key piece of information. The chapter leading up to this scene in the manga starts out with Dorian throwing a gala for his fellow crime lords, and Klaus being tasked with maintaining security for a peace conference between the USA and the USSR taking place nearby. Upon hearing that there is a gathering of some of the most powerful underground figures in that proximity, Klaus intrudes on Dorian’s soiree to warn them not to do anything that might disrupt the conference. Dorian reassures his alerted guests, and informs Klaus that they have no such intention.

It is then that a KGB and a CIA agent rush in to tell Klaus that they received a lead that could hint at a neo-Nazi plot aiming to bomb the conference. An argument soon breaks out amongst the uninvited guests and Dorian promptly kicks them all out. Afterwards, Dorian’s close friend Volvonte offhandedly muses that he remembers something about a neo-Nazi of some sort having borrowed money from his organization some time not so long ago – a piece of information crucial to Klaus’s investigation is now, accidentally, in Dorian’s hands. But the party resumes, and it is only later, once everything is done and cleared, that Dorian thinks to call Klaus before going to bed. He is in bed, phoning Klaus like it was a booty-call. He flirts, Klaus tries to hang up, Dorian supplies the piece of information, then flirts some more and ends the call with a big, fat, sloppy kiss over the telephone. So what is significant about this set-up?

For one, Dorian has no obligation to tell Klaus this information that would not only save a peace conference, but many lives, including Klaus’s. The casual manner with which he treats this key piece of information is also important. He doesn’t urge Volvonte to tell him more, he doesn’t rush to tell Klaus, and he doesn’t communicate with Klaus in the manner of subordination, taking the time for pleasantry and flirtation. A casual bedtime conversation for Dorian, in this case, is a matter of life and death for Klaus. Dorian holds the power.
In the stage show, while the context is the same, details are removed, while other unnecessary ones are added. Due to the rushed pace that the show is written with, Dorian’s feelings for Klaus in this arc is intensified, giving him a motivation to tell Klaus the vital piece of information, as he is now deeply worried about Klaus. This level of care at this point in the story is not seen in the manga. Because of this newly-slotted motivation, his nonchalance is diminished, resulting in a serious exchange where it appears as though Dorian also has stakes in the matter, almost like he is working for Klaus. And because he is not in bed, his “advice” to Klaus comes off less as banter and more like sincere advice, and it presents him as naggy, as opposed to flirtatious and funny. That kiss is also waaaayyy too timid.
Costume
When it comes to costume, Dorian in this musical still exceeds everyone else by a mile. I was concerned when promotional materials only show him in one outfit, but thankfully, they had others made as well. Most of them look glamorous enough to look like they could maybe be part of Dorian’s wardrobe (and he might have worn a few of them while extremely intoxicated because this is the 70s).
However, that is not to say they were perfect. Knowing that this is a small production with limited budget, I will look past the fact that even Dorian’s costumes look pretty cheap in terms of material and tailoring. Especially if you compare them to the Takarazuka Revue’s adaptation of Eroica’s spin-off, El Halcon. But what will always be a sore thumb in my eyes is his rubber-looking rubber-sole jagged platform boots.

Why couldn’t we have given him well-fitted heel leather boots? Manga Dorian is on heels even while scaling walls. And heels would certainly look better when he dances. My problem with the ill-fitted rubber sole boots is that they throw the outfit’s proportion and silhouette totally off balance, shortening his legs, the opposite of what you want for a 1970s look. Considering the actor himself is tall enough to pull off a 1970s shōjo manga type look with loooong legs, these boots definitely did him quite dirty.

Speaking of which, Dorian’s inspiration is Robert Plant. Therefore, I definitely would have loved to see the outfits taking more inspiration from the decade, the rock scene, and Robert Plant himself. Manga Dorian’s fashion is a showcase of Aoike’s love for rock’n’roll, European classic arts, and fantastical shōjo manga aesthetics.

It expresses Dorian’s character as someone who romanticizes the fictionalized past and at the same time, poses as a contradiction to convention and norm.
The outfits given to Dorian in this production don’t exactly hold such punch, some of them seem repetitive, while others pale in comparison to his manga counterpart. And that is without mentioning that godawful wig that's somehow both too flat and too frizzy (in a nylon way).

Overall, Dorian in this production worked and I am not mad about him. I would say that most of the criticisms I have for Dorian is the result of staging, writing, and costuming, and none for the casting itself. I do think Nakayama Yuki did, honestly, a good job.

Pegasus is typically a kind creature, who typically needs to Noble Phantasm [Bellerophon: Brindle of Chivalry] to rouse its fighting spirit. The man who bears the Noble Phantasm’s name can rouse Pegasus’ fighting spirit entirely on his own, and instead uses the brindle to increase the sync between rider and mount from 95% to 100%.
Magic Resistance C
Bellerophon’s magic resistance makes him immune to magecraft with a chant of less than two verses. Any magecraft that is weaker than Greater Magecraft or Greater Rituals will not work on him.
Personal Skills
Divinity D
Bellerophon is the son of Poseidon, but the arrogance he shows in regards to the Gods forced the rank of Bellerophon’s Divinity into a paltry D Rank. If brought up to Bellerophon, he’ll laugh it off and make a wisecrack about if this is supposed to be punishment for his arrogance, “It’s a damn shitty one.”
Tactics B+ (Anti-Monster)
There were two critical factors in the defeat of the Greater Chimera; Pegasus and Bellerophon’s clever strategy to turn the beast's own fire breath against it. Bellerophon’s ability to create strategies suited to beat his opponents handily increases against beast-like or monstrous opponents.
Bravery B+
A skill representing Bellerophon’s unshakeable faith in he and Pegasus’ ability. They faced down multiple challenges without hesitating, and only failed once. It makes Bellerophon immune to mental interference, and increases his melee damage.
Charisma D-
Bellerophon was never a leader of people, fighting solely alongside Pegasus in most instances. However, Bellerophon always had an undeniable charm to him, his self-confidence and charming nature convincing people to admire him, to give him second chances, to place their faith in him. So while its rank may be low, it is nonetheless effective in its own way.
Noble Phantasms
[Bellerophon Kometes: May We Fly Ever Higher]Rank: A+ -> A++
Classification: Anti-Self - Anti-Army
A Noble Phantasm that can be used in two ways. The basic use of Bellerophon Kometes is the “basic” use of the Noble Phantasm, mimicking the effects of [Bellerophon: Brindle of Chivalry] -  a powerful attack wherein the user and Pegasus dives towards the opponent and deals massive damage. 
The true form of Bellerophon Kometes, however, is an enhanced version of that dive. It transforms the concept of “Bellerophon’s Hubris” into an attack, weaponizing the very thing that ended the hero’s life. Rider and Mount turn into a shooting star of pure fire, crashing into the opponent with force far surpassing the original form of the dive, as it becomes an attack that damages not only the “form” of the target, but the “spirit” as well. However, this enhanced power comes at a cost, as Bellerophon will die once the Noble Phantasm is used, leaving behind only Pegasus, who is likely to choose to fade away with his master.
Personality
An arrogant hotshot who thinks he can handle any problem thrown his way and that he’ll always win. Bellerophon believes that the best solution to every problem is to face it head on and with gusto. Strategy is fine, but one should never allow themselves to be constrained by that.
Rather than being a “reliable” big brother type, Bellerophon could be described as an “admirable” big brother type, whose extreme confidence and daring causes those he takes under his wing to believe in him as strongly as he believes in himself, and to believe in themselves just as much.
Bellerophon has something of a dislike for the Gods, citing their distance in regards to the mortals they rule over. 
Motive and Attitude towards Master
Bellerophon views his master as a follower or a little brother, depending on the Master. He views them as someone that should be able to rely on him, and that he should be able to live up to their expectations, and inspire them to reach ever greater heights. If his master is of an underhanded nature, Bellerophon won’t be able to respect them, and his loyalty and determination to meet their expectation and inspire them will falter.
Bellerophon seeks to claim the Holy Grail because he sees the chance to battle other heroes and face new challenges to drive himself to ever greater heights. He’s admittedly not sure what he would do with the Grail once he obtained it, but he fights with overwhelming determination to reach it.

Historical Depiction
A son of Poseidon in Greek Mythology, Bellerophon began his legend when he accidentally killed his own brother, and was sent to King Proteus in order to receive purification. While there, the king’s wife attempted to seduce Bellerophon, and when he rejected her, she told the king he had tried to seduce her instead. So, King Proteus sent Bellerophon to King Iobates of Lycia with secret orders to kill him. However, by the time King Iobates discovered the orders, he had already accepted Bellerophon as his guest. Given hospitality was one of the personal realms of Zeus himself, Iobates wished to avoid personally killing Bellerophon, instead resolving to get the young man killed through a quest. So, he sent the young man to kill the vicious Great Chimera.
Bellerophon rashly accepted this quest, in spite of lacking a method to fight the best. On his way to the location, Bellerophon slept next to a spring created by Pegasus, and Athena appeared to him in a dream, giving him the bit and brindle needed to control Pegasus.
So, Bellerophon approached Pegasus and tamed the great Phantasmal Beast, and in doing so, gained a lifelong companion.
Together, Bellerophon and Pegasus defeated the Great Chimera, the Amazons, and whatever other task King Iobates set before them. Eventually, King Iobates gave up in his attempts to slay Bellerophon, reasoning that someone with Bellerophon’s success had to have the gods on their side. He made Bellerophon his heir and married him to his daughter.
However, eventually Bellerophon grew disillusioned with the gods seeing the disparity between the blessings given to some, the curses given to others, and the world in between. Seeking answers for these questions, Bellerophon attempted to fly to Olympus to confront the Olympians personally. This act of hubris led to him being struck off Pegasus, falling to his death.

The leader of the Argonauts and a hero of the previous generation. Jason finds Bellerophon monstrously annoying, and way too loud. Bellerophon, for his part, seems to refuse to improve Jason’s opinion of him, going out of his way to be even louder around the captain.

hi! i don't necessarily follow women's football but i know some things and i noticed there's a high percentage of ACL injuries in female footballers. i wonder if there's a similar case of ACL injury in women skaters as well? do female footballers and female skaters use their legs differently, biomechanically speaking?

Hi Anon,
First of all, apologize for taking this long. This has been sitting in my notes and I’ve been adding to it for a few weeks. You have come to the right place to talk about the biomechanics of injury, especially in footballers (as someone who grew up playing competitively for over a decade). Football, basketball, volleyball are all lateral impact sports. There’s lots of landing and pushing off to the side and hard planting to quickly change direction. The planting, that really sharp force and change of momentum, is often where athletes tear their ACLs. It’s almost always non-contact, the ligament just experiences too much torsion and shear stress and tears. Skating is less of a lateral sport, because of the glide (in comparison to running where there’s an impact with the stride) so while stroking uses some exterior rotators (the glute medius, piriformis, etc) there’s not a jolt of force in the knee like there is without skates.
In field sports (football, American football, lacrosse, field hockey, rugby) there’s an element of cleats having too much traction with the turf, and getting stuck while the body’s momentum goes another way that wouldn’t happen in a sport like volleyball or basketball. This is also more of a factor on artificial turf than grass, which is why there’s been a major push in women’s football for international games on grass, even in the NFL there has been an increase in demand for grass. That’s not as much a factor in skating.
For female skaters, like Kaitlin Hawayek, who are unlucky enough to tear their ACLs it’s a lot more likely that it’s a contact injury, with a force being applied on the outside of the knee so it caves in and the ACL tears trying to stabilize it. This can happen coming out of a lift or a freak fall, but it’s less likely to a routine stroking motion like a crossover or turn like it is for field athletes. I’m guessing that Kaitlin’s ACL happened on a curve lift dismount gone wrong where her skate got caught and then lots of outside force was applied to her knee.
Female footballers have a uniquely high rate of ACL tears (and other ligament injuries) compared to peers in other sports and their male peers in football. Here’s a few of the reasons that researchers point to as risk factors:
- There’s a social factor that female athletes are more discouraged from strength training which helps balance the strength of the quads and hamstrings which is often a contributing factor to knee stability. And generally female athletes begin puberty earlier and are at a critical part of their musculoskeletal development when they’re most insecure about their body’s and most discouraged from doing resistance training for injury prevention.
In this 2020 literature review [2] of 12 studies on injury prevention protocols in women’s football, they found that “there is low-level evidence that multicomponent, exercise-based programmes reduce overall and ACL injuries by 27% and 45%, respectively.” It should be noted that this literature review included 9/12 studies focused on adolescents (9-18yo), which is that critical period for musculoskeletal development & a time period of extreme social vulnerability.
Across all sports, protocols using agility, plyometric, balance, mobility, and strength protocols are very effective at preventing injuries. “Systematic reviews confirm the efficacy of such programmes to reduce ACL injuries,35 for all athletes and all sports (OR=0.50; 95%CI 0.41 to 0.59), and female athletes specifically (OR=0.33; 95%CI 0.27 to 0.41).“ OR means “odds ratio” so for all athletes/all sports the protocols halves the risk of injury per incidence of risk and for female athletes it reduces it by 67%! Which is huge. And shows that well-rounded training programs are more-so important for female athletes because of general social attitudes that deter strength/plyo/agility training in favor of cardio.

- Female athletes are more likely than their male peers to have eating disorders and to deal with malnutrition because of general social expectations. This can lead to weaker muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones that are more prone to injury at the same impact forces that wouldn’t injure someone not suffering from malnutrition.
- Female athletes are given fewer resources when it comes to training centers, facilities, artificial turf/grass etc. Additionally, more female athletes work at least part-time if not full-time jobs which leads to greater fatigue, less sleep and recovery time, etc.
- Only 6% of orthopedic and sports exercise research is done exclusively on female athletes, so a lot of current sports and recovery science is done on male athletes and just generalized across populations, which ignores female-specific factors. And a lot of papers available on this matter that attempt to derive a conclusion about causality/risk are from reviews not necessarily cohort or longitudinal studies.
- I’ve talked about this previously but the Q-angle, the angle the hip socket sits from the sagittal axis relative to the knee, is more exaggerated the wider your hips are. And it’s almost always larger in women. The additional lateral force makes the knee more likely to bow in and causes shear strain in the ligament. This bowing makes the ligament more vulnerable to tearing than in male athletes who have narrower hips. Strength training with emphasis on external rotation, foot position relative to knees, and weight distribution is important to account for differences in bone structure, and why sports science that’s centered around only male athletes results in a flawed approach for injury prevention in female athletes.

- Football is an extremely fatiguing sport because of the length of games as opposed to sports like basketball and volleyball where there’s more natural stoppage of play. In addition to just endurance, explosiveness is needed in the 89th (and 119th) minute, and the intra-joint forces necessary to create that explosive power are quite large, and when fatigued incorrect body mechanics can lead those intra-joint forces to be applied to weaker structures in the knee.
From a 2021 study [2] focused on changes in biomechanics under fatigue in female footballers w/ 20 participants from 20-31yo: “Knee extension moment decreased in 8, knee valgus moment increased in 5 players. A subset of participants showed a drift of pivoting limb kinematics that matches the known ACL injury mechanism; other players displayed less definite or even opposed behaviors.” 
Valgus is a description of a pattern of movement in the knee other than extension/flexion. Particularly with regards to internal rotation from the hip, where internal rotators or ADDuctors (the inner thighs) overpower external rotators ABDuctors (gluteus medius), causing the knees to cave and rotate to face each other as opposed to forward.
This is an example of NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III landing from a standing broad jump, you can see as opposed to directing his knees outwards and forwards, he exhibits knee valgus. Griffin was known for his short, injury prone career. Including torn right ACL in college; right LCL sprain in 2012; torn ACL, LCL, meniscus in 2013; ankle issues, and a whole lot more.

General consensus was that he was so injury prone in college and in the NFL (in non-contact situations) because of his excessive knee valgus that was never corrected.
There has been some general thought that the menstrual cycle (menstruation, follicular, ovulation, and luteal phase) potentially play a role in ACL vulnerability though there is no real consensus.
  A 2017 review [3] about the relationship between ACL laxity, menstruation, and contraception attempted to collate studies that relate the 3.
“Twenty-one studies totaling 68,758 participants were included: 5 on the menstrual cycle and ACL injury, 7 on hormonal contraceptives and ACL injury, as well as 13 on menstrual cycle and ligament laxity”
The literature collated suggests that the oral pill potentially reduces risk of tear by 20% but the strength of the evidence in these studies is low, related to overall bias and robustness of research methods/study design.
“Specifically, laboratory studies have found that exposure of the ACL to estradiol results in a dose-dependent reduction in fibroblast and collagen synthesis and that this effect is attenuated by the addition of progestins” estradiol is low during menstruation, peaks during the luteal phase, and then has a secondary, smaller apex halfway through the luteal phase (see pic below). Basically, estradiol peaks during the menstrual cycle create certain periods of time where fibroblasts-cells responsible for the creation of connective tissue-have their proliferation rates decreased, so connective tissue and collagen is being replaced and reinforced significantly less than during the rest of the menstrual cycle. In contrast, progesterone increases fibroblast rate of proliferation, creating a protective effect. 
So as you can see in the graph below, in the luteal phase the simultaneous rise of the two hormones cancel one another out whereas in the ovulatory phase, the peak in estradiol with no protective progesterone creates a window of vulnerability for all connective tissues in the body.

“The identification of estrogen receptor positive fibroblasts in the human anterior cruciate ligament strongly suggests female sex hormones may have an effect on the structure and composition of the ligament” [5]
“The proper function of a ligament depends on the appropriate type, synthesis, assembly, crosslinking, and remodeling of collagen. This complex interplay between synthesis and remodeling of collagen is influenced by hormones, exercise, and immobilization. Thus, it is clear the amount of collagen bundles and the individual types of collagen influence the ability of the tendon to withstand loading.”
Progesterone’s protective effect explains why the oral pill (either combined estrogen/progesterone or progesterone only) correlates to fewer ACL injuries. Progesterone essentially tricks the body into never entering ovulation, and prevents development of the follicle which is responsible for estradiol production. So even in the presence of estrogen, there is no massive increase in native estradiol concentration which weakens connective tissue. 
All of this to say, a lot more research needs to be done but we do have a preliminary understanding of how certain risk factors can be ameliorated, and that can help us understand what is potentially going wrong at clubs that have had a slew of injuries (looking at you Arsenal women). I love talking about this kind of science, because it is so understudied, so if you want to chat more anon I would love to! But also if this was too much info I’m very sorry I just find it fascinating.

Innovative design choices can have a massive impact in the theatre of war, so it is important to understand the principles behind their development. Recent use of low-cost cardboard drones by Ukraine, supplied by Australia, to attack targets in Russia is a good example of how this can work.
Australia has been supplying Ukraine with 100 of the drones per month from March this year as part of an aid package deal worth an estimated £15.7 million, following an agreement struck in July 2021, according to the Australian Army Defence Innovation Hub.
Emerging technologies tend to override current technologies, and in turn, this generates competitive counter-technologies. This circular relationship driven by innovation is often critical in warfare as it can provide key technological advances.
Drone technology was originally developed for military use. It was then seen to offer opportunities in the civilian sphere for logistics, delivery and disaster relief. This then in turn has offered new innovations that can translate to military applications.
Conflicts in the future will be particularly shaped by drones, which will have implications for international relations, security and defence.
The Australian firm Sypaq, an engineering and solutions company founded in 1992, created the Corvo Precision Payload Delivery System (PPDS) for use in military, law enforcement, border security and emergency services, as well as food security, asset inspection and search and rescue.
Ukrainian forces reportedly used the PDDS cardboard drones in an attack on an airfield in Kursk Oblast in western Russia on August 27. The attack damaged a Mig-29 and four Su-30 fighter jets, two Pantsir anti-aircraft missile launchers, gun systems, and an S-300 air surface-to-air missile defence system.
Design principles

Waxed cardboard is an ideal material as it offers weather resistance, flat-pack transportation (measuring 510mm by 760mm) and, importantly, a lightweight airframe, which enables a longer flight range and a high cruise speed of 60km/h.
Fixed-wing drones also offer longer ranges than rotor-based drones as the wings generate the lift and the airframe has less drag, so they are more energy efficient. They can also fly at higher altitudes. The drones can be launched from a simple catapult or by hand and so can be rapidly deployed.
Low-tech material, hi-tech thinking
Radar involves the transmission of electromagnetic waves, and these are reflected off any object back to a receiving antenna. Cardboard is generally harder to detect by radar – but its components, such as the battery, can be detected.
But the Corvo drone is likely to have a small signature. Radar-absorbing materials are needed to have full stealth properties. These polymers have various absorbing qualities to avoid radar detection.
Another design principle is the swarming capability of the drone. Swarms of drones can overpower air defence systems through sheer volume and or can be used as decoys in counterintelligence operations.
Swarms are highly reliant on the development of artificial intelligence, which is still an embryonic research area. But a recent drone race at ETH University in Zurich, in which AI-piloted drone beat drones controlled by world-champion drone racers, highlighted this potential.
All of these design principles and innovations have and are continuing to transform warfare and theatre operations. It is likely that small drones at low cost are likely to have further mission success in the future.
