You need to learn how to fall 3/10
Hangster (and IceMav) - Bradley is too tall to be a naval aviator and instead becomes a sky diver, specialising in spin recovery. He is a civilian contractor to the Airforce and Navy to teach pilots how to survive parachute spins from ejections. A more in-depth version of this post.
PROLOGUE 2003-2006
2007-2010 – The middle years
He ends up with another part-time job, fortunately using his human performance part of his degree and working as a personal trainer, mostly early mornings. Jumping out of planes is expensive. He moves out of the house him and Mav usually live in, but months later ends up moving in with Ice when he’s diagnosed with cancer. They don’t sugar coat things, not now that he’s an adult. He has to listen to them talk about wills and property and investments and assets; wants to stick his head in the sand and just chant la-la-la until it all goes away. He doesn’t want to consider his life without them both in it. Hard enough to think he’s already lost his actual parents, he can’t lose them too.
He sits through it though, signs forms he reads carefully because both Ice and Mav frown and look disappointed the first time he signed without even looking. They get similar forms for him, given his current career and he’s pretty sure Mav has to excuse himself to go and throw up when he says he doesn’t want to be kept on life support indefinitely if he has a bad fall. Ice just nods and accepts his decision with quiet equanimity and he wonders if it’s because he is facing his own mortality. He starts a YouTube channel, figures out how to take effective video and then edit it properly. Loads them up without commentary; originally it’s for those he’s taken up for tandem jumps, but then it’s for other instructors around the country, and then a couple of them move overseas. His channel has a small but dedicated following.
One of the silver linings of Ice’s cancer diagnosis is the fact he seems to no longer give any fucks about what people might say about his relationship with Mav. Don’t ask, don’t tell is still in effect but it’s also definitely very firmly in the don’t tell realm as far as Bradley can figure out. Everyone who they interact with seems to simply know that they’re together, and have been for as long as everyone remembers. Definitely for as long as he remembers. No one wants to tell and he guesses that Ice is high enough up that there’s probably blind-eyes all over the place.
Then Ice insists on Mav moving in, which he promptly leaves the house for, not wanting to hang around for listening to the argument or hearing the makeup sex that will surely follow. So they put the house on the market, then he’s given the money and told he can finally buy the plane he wants which he delays a little and carefully shops around, listening to the advice of his old instructors and also Ice and Mav. All his gifts for years are centered around either skydiving or filming and editing software. It doesn’t escape his notice that Mav’s gifts tend towards the safer indoor aspects, while Ice tends toward the safety needs. They’re both supportive in their own ways.
Living together, all of them, properly for the first time, results in the sudden influx of photos that pop up, every flat surface has frames with photos and Ice starts taking more photos. All of their lives are visually documented on the walls and bookshelves, although Bradley notes the front room Ice uses as a study and work room remains very formal and devoid of any personal touches. Other than formal portraits, like his graduation photo. Regardless of what room he’s in he feels like he is at home.
…             …             …
His nightmare becomes a reality, although not in full. The call he got was from Bradley, starting off with I’m alive but I’m on the way to the hospital. He’d then passed the phone over to someone else. Apparently he’d taken a bad landing after being forced to use his second backup shute. He’d been too close to the ground so had hit it hard. His hands are shaking as he walks down the hospital corridor, the only thing that has him not vomiting is the fact that Bradley is the one who called him. That Bradley was alive; maybe not alive and well, but alive enough to call him.
“Bad fall,” Mav mutters. “Like he’s tripped over the front step and grazed his hands…”
He pushes the door open to Bradley’s room. He’s pale, face covered in bandages, one arm in a cast and both legs in braces, but not as he’d imagined a broken spine and him being in something like full-traction it’s a little bit of a relief.
                “He’s damned lucky.”
                “Doesn’t look lucky.”
“He had his legs tucked up, hit the ground and rolled. Like it was as natural as breathing. He dislocated his shoulder but continued with the momentum… most people I know would have hit the ground feet-first despite years of training and the shock would have caused spiral fractures. They’ve braced his ankles as a matter of precaution because the x-rays showed no damage, which is a miracle but also isn’t surprising considering he walked into the hospital. We don’t usually say that you can be a natural at skydiving, but this kid is definitely a natural.”
                Mav sighs.
                Of course he is.
…             …             …
“If the cancer didn’t get me, then I’m sure jumping out of a plane isn’t going to kill me either.”
“Fighting words. It’s a good thing I’m taller than you. When we come into land you’re going to lift your legs.”
He listens as Bradley takes him through everything, despite the fact that he knows it all, having listened to it so often he’s pretty sure he could repeat it back, learning it alongside Bradley and quizzing him on it. He can follow Bradley’s instructions, he’s in the Navy. When he’s strapped to Bradley, waved the all-clear he feels a little frisson of abject terror but it’s too late, he’s falling toward to the ground and then his fear fades away and he lets out a whoop of joy, hears Bradley’s amused laughter before it’s whipped away by the rushing air. They hit the ground and it’s gentler than he thought it would be.
                “Woo! What a rush!”
                “Yeah? You like it?”
“It reminds me of my first launch off a carrier. Damn. Yeah. I get it now. Love you kid,” he says, knocking his own helmet against Bradley’s, the words aren’t ones he says often, but feels the need to say them more often now. Doesn’t want Bradley to ever doubt how he feels. Mav either for that matter…
                “Love you too.”
…             …             …
“You were both up there, together.”
He should have known it would give Mav another nightmare and he curls himself around him, makes gentle shushing noises under his breath, glad now that he doesn’t have to try and do this over the phone.
                “Do you trust him?”
                “Of course I do!”
“Then know that skydiving, especially tandem skydiving is safer than driving to and from the hangar. Car accidents are far more common and hurt far more people than skydiving does. You’ve seen him with his gear. Hell, we check it. He’s damned good at what he does. He’s meant to be up in the air just as much as you are…”
Mav lets out a little hiccupping breath and Tom knows he’s got something that’ll definitely take his mind of everything else.
“You know, there’s something else I want to check off on my bucket list…” Tom says, and he’s not going to move, but his otherwise grand plans aren’t getting a look in right now. This feels right.
                “What?”
“Pete Mitchell, will you marry me?”
…             …             …
Ice and Mav leave plans on the table one night. An extension to the house, with a shared internal door but his own front door; effectively making two houses. A large bedroom, another room for an office with a desk, extension to the garage so he can store his gear, enough room to roll out his chutes and carry out checks. It’s very clearly an invitation to never move out, but also to live independently and he finds the sticky notes they use to communicate when they’re too busy to actually stop and talk. Simply draws a heart and writes love it in the center.
He doesn’t bother looking at moving out of home again.

*Any fic in which Jake/Bradley isn't a Navy Fighter Pilot, but is still connected to the sky somehow... Well, it's more what you’d call ‘guidelines’ than an actual rule... :P

Navy - Not A Pilot!Bradley Bradshaw > Navy - Not A Pilot!Jake Seresin
Take Off by ReformedTsundere {G}
/Flight Attendant!Jake/
Jake is what the man's name tag reads when Bradley is able to force his eyes down. And if he gets a little lost, mapping what contours of the man's chest he can see beneath his uniform, that's between Bradley and no one else. Except... maybe Jake too, because when Bradley forces his eyes back up, the blonde is smirking, all amused. It's the kind of look someone has when they know they're attractive and are aware the person staring is thinking that same.
Wildfire by sycamoretree {E}
/Temporary Aerial Firefighters!Jake & Bradley/
Jake and Bradley are on a mission to beat a wildfire by aerial firefighting. But what dangers lie ahead?
we met and you claimed me by haridwar {M}
/Commercial Pilot!Bradley/
it seemed so natural, darling, that you and I are here
“Did we really do this?” Bradley asked. It was the first thing he had said since Jake’s brainwave and Jake was not a fan of how upset he sounded. “Are we- did we get married?” or: what happens in Vegas...
Second Chance by Nickies_Nonsense {T}
/Commercial Pilot!Bradley & ATC Operator!Jake/
Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw leaves the US Navy after the mission with the daggers and starts a second career as a commercial airline pilot with Southwest Airlines. Little does he know that the Air Traffic Control operator Jake Seresin is about to become the most interesting part of his new job, drag Bradley out of his depression, and firmly implant himself into Bradley's new life whether he likes it or not - spoiler, he likes it.
You need to learn how to fall by SunMonTue {E}
/Skydiving Instructor!Bradley/
Bradley keeps growing past the 6'5" limit of being a naval aviator, Maverick lets out an internal sigh of relief. He's not going to be the one responsible for stopping Bradley from becoming a pilot. However, because karma is a cruel mistress, Bradley becomes a sky diver, specialising in spin recovery. Mav will never understand why his godson continually jumps out of perfectly good planes. Later Bradley's level of skill is such that he becomes a civilian contractor to the Airforce and Navy to teach pilots how to survive parachute spins from ejections. The Airforce contact Bradley first, it annoys Ice to no end.
Requesting clearance (to fall in love) by ProtectingH_ngm_n {G}
/Captain!Bradley & First Officer!Jake/
The first time was an accident. The second time was a coincidence. The third time was luck and the fourth time was planned. A fic with Captain Bradley Bradshaw and First Officer Jake Seresin

Megastar?
And if you're up for it... Megatron/Elite Trine, with Megatron as the carrier?
These two idiots don't know jack shit about raising a baby, but they're trying. God damn it, they're trying so hard. This feels like G1 to me, idk why. It's a G1 kind of night. You'll never convince me that G1 Megastar aren't the biggest switches. They fight snd spar and wrestle for dominance, winner gets to top, and the other one is so charged up from being manhandled they practically break the berth every night. A sparkling was never planned and by the time they realize they're going to be parents, it's too late to consider termination
Megatron is the one who ends up sparked, and while he never, ever thought being a carrier would ever be possible... he doesn't hate the idea. He really doesn't want to raise his child in the midst of wartime, but trapped on earth he doesn't have the means to put them into cryostasis when they're born. So instead, he pledges to do the best he can: so long as he's alive, no slagsucking autobot or uppity high and mighty civilian will ever put their servos on his child. This sparkling will grow up with every freedom he didn't have, they can be whatever they want to be and no one will ever speak a work of functionist pitslag to them. They'll never be anyone's property, they'll never be branded and forced to toil ceaselessly for the sake of slavedriving overlords. He won't even force them to take over his throne if they don't want to: he's not planning to kick the bucket anytime soon anyway, and he'll only retire when he's dead. If his sparkling wants to be a teacher, they cab. If they want to be an author, they can. If they want to be a sharpshooter or a spy or a general or one of his high commanders, they can. That's the finest gift he can give them, he thinks: the freedom of choice. Starscream begrudgingly agrees, as the child isn't going to be a seeker and so he can't prepare them as a future Winglord. They're not perfect and are in fact fucking crazy, but they do want the best for their little spark.
When the baby is born, they have Megatron's original alt mode, surprising no one as it was a singleton pregnancy. They're his gunmetal gray and Starscream's flashy red, truly a beautiful sparkling. Megatron is so proud, and almost nostalgic of the past: he sees so much of himself in them, full of potential but born free of Cybertron's confines. He can't wait to see what they'll become. Starscream shares the sentiment, and it's the first thing they've truly agreed on in so, so long. They're dysfunctional as hell but they both love their sparkling.
When the baby is born, Megatron is back to work within 3 days. He slows down for nothing and no one, not even birth. He's back on his throne commanding the decepticons with the newspark suckling from his pouches, Starscream for once proudly posted at his side. The seeker is walking on air, showing off to the entire airforce that he sired the first sparkling born in 4 million years. Very rarely is one of them alone with the bitty, just because their jobs overlap so much, but when they are? Starscream baby talks the little one. Coos at them about how handsome and smart and perfect they are, what a wondrous perfect little baby! Bitty eats it up, and he relishes in the way they giggle and wave their tiny servos at him. Megatron is quiet most of the time he's with them, content just to watch them babble senselessly and slowly learn about the world. At night though, every night before putdown, he whispers a solemn oath to them. "I promise to always protect you, to always be here for you, to always support you and be proud of you. I promise you a future where you're free and happy, and I promise to always stand beside you. I promise that as long as I live, no one will ever hurt you, and I promise, as l live, you'll never suffer needlessly." and he means every word. Their future is indescribably precious, it's priceless, and he'll fight with all that he has to make sure it's preserved. They won't walk the same path of misery as so many decepticons before them, and he'll tear the world apart a thousand times to guarantee that.

The Galaxy Squad Log (Part 1): Last Fleet
Tumblr media
So I've started up another series of games with my play group, and this time we're doing space games! I'm also not the only one GM-ing this time around - another one of my friends will be co-GM-ing half of the space games, all taking place in the same galaxy. To kick things off, we decided on Last Fleet, which might as well be Battlestar Galactica: The Game. If you want to take a look at the digital play-kit we used, you can check out my Google Sheets spread here.
The Breakdown
We had an Aries Tactician, a Sagittarius Engineer, a Cancer Influencer, a Leo Marine, and a Gemini Investigator. In the very first session, one of the smaller ships of the fleet went dark, prompting most of the party to go and stage a rescue. The most dramatic moment involved the Gemini Investigator sneaking into the medical bay and taking out an Android infiltrator without anyone seeing. Cue the Marine entering the medical bay to see a dead body and a gun in the hand of the Investigator. Drama ensues.
One of my favourite scenes in the second session was the terse interaction between the Tactician and the Influencer, who was acting as the fleet's therapist. The Influencer happened to be in a relationship with the head of the fleet's airforce, and slipped up in mentioning the Tactician's gambling addiction to the Commander. As a result the Tactician was forced to drop his gambling habit, so he went to his therapist to tell her she needs to break up with her girlfriend if she wants to do her job correctly. He decided to Call Her Out on Her Shit, and rolled a 10+, so she only had two options - either agree to it in order to gain experience, or refuse and mark Pressure. The tension in the air was palpable.
Meanwhile, the Engineer and the Marine ended up getting a bit too drunk, and woke up the next morning in bed together. This was great for our Engineer, who was completely oblivious to most of the intrigue going on, but it was not great for the Marine, who was responsible for investigating missing parts - which was the responsibility of the Engineer. The two of them ended up being sent on a clandestine mission to a civilian ship to try and figure out what exactly was up with the black market in lieu of the Tactician, who was prohibited from investigating it himself, and had to coordinate their efforts from afar.
Our third and final session had no right going as hard as it did. We had our Investigator shut down all access to civilian ships from the military fleet after he found out that a number of refugees were being held in the navy's headquarters. Our Influencer was saddled with calming a bunch of very panicked refugees, while our Engineer tried to get in with the gambling ring and the black market while civilians were actively blocking all military personnel. Everything was tense - and then our Investigator hit his Breaking Point.
Now, the player who chose a Gemini Investigator had made his character sheet in a bit of a hurry, so he hadn't fully read every piece of it, particularly his Breaking Point options. And his play throughout the entirety of the game was always at least a little big antagonistic towards the other PCs, which made a few players suspicious, to put it mildly. Neither of us had made any plans behind the scenes - and in fact, he didn't even know that betrayal was an option - until I read out his Breaking Points. And right there, second-last on the list, was this:
Tumblr media
Our Investigator didn't hesitate. He immediately switched sides, turning the tables by stating that another NPC who was trying to send out a communication was actually calling for help from another ship outside the fleet - and that the Investigator was trying to bring the civilian ship to our Android pursuers. There was a mad scramble to stop him, in which our Tactician and Influencer pulled out all the stops to set up a chance to turn the ship around, and our Marine sacrificed themself to give the Engineer one last chance to save the civilians and prevent an imminent Android arrival. It was dramatic and heart-wrenching, and after a series of terrible rolls (I'm talking like, snake eyes for at least three different people terrible), the Engineer rolled a 12 and brought us back from the brink. We were all on the edge of our seat, and at the end, emotions spilled out in the most satisfying way.
Thoughts
Last Fleet is a truly special game. What I loved about it was the tight mechanics: the Pressure track on each character sheet provides a resource for the players to improve their rolls, but at the cost of stressing them out and pushing them to do something that escalates the situation even further.
The GM advice is also top-notch. It guides you to create a threat that is always at the back of the players' minds, but hardly ever front-and-centre. The players cause most of the problems themselves, because they all have their own reasons for working just outside of the law - and bringing all sorts of consequences to bear for their troubles. As a GM, I didn't have to do much - just hint at NPCs being suspicious, and throw a wrench into the daily running of things, and the players took it from there.
This game was also great for the players who love instigating or participating in conflict. The moves Call Someone Out On Their Shit and Cover Up allowed them to make demands of each-other, get up to shady shenanigans, and lie to important NPCs. The characters of Last Fleet might be heroes - but they're first and foremost flawed and stressed people, put into a very demanding situation.
Lastly, relationships are key in this game. You have the ability to interfere or support other characters when they're attempting to do something, and while the base move tells you which stat to roll with, you can substitute that stat with your relationship level instead. So having a good relationship with someone makes helping or hindering them much much easier - and that really encourages players to Reach Out to each-other, in the hopes of keeping together something that they desperately need to survive.
What's Next
Next up, a friend of mine will be running Starforged, by Shawn Tomkin. This is a game about spaceborne heroes undertaking perilous quests.
To make this game line up with the timeline of Last Fleet, we had to reconcile some key facts. We knew that in Last Fleet, faster-than-light travel existed as it helped the characters keep just ahead of their robot pursuers. But in StarForged, FTL travel no longer exists. Our Starforged crew decided that something about the drives that powered the Last Fleet caused rips or holes in reality, which made room for supernatural powers and dreadful forgespawn in the Forge. Our Engineer in Last Fleet put forward that for her end-game Breaking Point, her character decided to foolishly alter a fundamental part of FTL technology such that it was impossible for the androids to follow the last of humanity to the Forge. In other words, she used her broken heart to break reality.
Of course, the tragedy that humanity fled was the android uprising, and the Starforged crew decided to continue that legacy of trauma by dictating that advanced computers are not trusted in their version of the forge. As a result, adepts called seers who use mind-altering drugs are responsible for getting ships from point A to point B, and the bio-mechanical precursors of the Forge who survived their creators' deaths are treated with heavy suspicion.
I'm really excited to see where this game goes, and I hope to keep you updated along the way!

“While women were encouraged to enter the paid labor force, wartime changes in women’s behavior aroused concern. Nowhere was this ambivalence more obvious than in the military itself. In a major change from the past, women entered every part of military service except combat. One thousand civilian female pilots joined the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), 140,000 women joined the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), 100,000 entered the navy as WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service), and others enlisted with the marines and coast guard. A few were physicians, and many were nurses. Although a small number of women held dramatic and highly publicized positions in formerly all-male areas such as aviation, most served in administrative, clerical, and communications jobs. Occupations in the military reflected the gender-based divisions in the civilian labor force.
Nevertheless, the military made great efforts to recruit women during the war. Oveta Culpa Hobby, director of the Women’s Army Corps, proclaimed women “are carrying on the glorious tradition of American womanhood. They are making history! …This is a war which recognizes no distinctions between men and women.” To the female Americans she hoped to recruit, she said, “This is YOUR war.” Women of “excellent character” who could pass an intelligence test could join the WACs, provided they had no children under the age of 14. Healthy, unmarried women with no dependents under the age of 18 could enlist in the WAVES. A WAVE who married might remain in the service, if she had finished basic training and as long as her husband was not in the service. The birth of a child brought an “honorable discharge.”
Although the armed forces offered women alternatives to full time homemaking, it was virtually impossible to combine a job in the military with family life. Nevertheless, the armed services presented the image of the female recruit as very “feminine” and domestically inclined. Every effort was made to dispel prevailing notions that military work would make women “masculine” or ruin their moral character. A guidebook for women in the armed services and war industries, for example, included a photograph of a young WAVE with a caption that described her as “pretty as her picture… in the trim uniform that enlisted U.S. Navy WAVES will wear in winter… smartly-styled, comfortable uniforms… with a soft rolled brim hat.”
…At the same time that women’s war work was given a domestic aura, domestic tasks gained new patriotic purpose. Millions of women were involved in volunteer work during the war, and much of it involved traditional skills such as canning, saving cooking fats, and making household goods last longer. Much as homemakers in the depression recognized the importance of their domestic skills for the homemakers of the war years saw their work as contributing to the success of the war emergency.
Women contributed to the war effort, but not at the expense of their domestic duties. Traditional marriage was still expected for them. It was, in fact, one of the primary reasons given for fighting the war. The walls of barracks were decorated with “pinups,” photographs of women in alluring poses reminding the men why they were fighting. Movie star Betty Grable was the most popular pinup, not because she was the most sexy and glamorous, but because she had a rather wholesome look. Grable came to inspire the girl back home and the “American Way of Life” that inspired the men to fight.”
- Elaine Tyler May, “Winding Down: Signs Point to Home.” in Pushing the Limits: American Women, 1940-1961

I’m not a recruiter, but I should be because, I believe in active duty service.
If you don’t know what to do with your life, or you just don’t like the way your life is going, serve in our military.
Why? You will receive two paychecks a month. You can travel the world. You will receive full medical and dental benefits.
Sign up for 4 years. Spend 6 months in boot camp and 3.5 years serving your country.
All you have to do is the job you signed up for. The only payments/bills you will have is your cell phone and car payment. Figure things out in 3.5 years.
Return to the civilian world or, extend, get promoted, make more money, and continue having a steady and solid life in our military.
No one is telling you what to do. We just want the best for you. We want the military to give you a chance to be stable on your own, free even. Stop working for someone else. Start working for a team and part of a team.
Study for the ASVAB. Get the highest score you can, 90% and above. Then you apply for the Airforce, Navy, Army, or Marines. Don’t get it twisted. I have friends and family in all branches of the military. Do your homework. The Airforce is the highest paid and the best benefits.
So if your done playing around,
sign up. If you’re done struggling,
sign up. If you want change, sign up.
There are so many benefits if you choose to serve your Country full time, active duty. Do your homework. Take care of yourself or your family right now.
How bad do you want order and stability in your life? You will make new friends. You will become family.

You need to learn how to fall 2/10
Hangster (and IceMav) - Bradley is too tall to be a naval aviator and instead becomes a sky diver, specialising in spin recovery. He is a civilian contractor to the Airforce and Navy to teach pilots how to survive parachute spins from ejections. A more in-depth version of this post.
PROLOGUE
2003-2006 – The early years
“Your son is very focused. His discipline is admirable. He’s going to go far. He’s going to be our youngest certified tandem skydiver.”
Pete’s throat works, because it’s not the first time someone has called Bradley his, but hearing someone else talk about his skill… to sound impressed not only with Bradley but also as a reflection of Pete’s own efforts. He didn’t realize he needed someone external telling him he’d done a good job, but here it is anyway.
“I’m Navy. He’s been brought up in a fairly disciplined household.”
“He mentioned that actually. He never thought about joining the service?”
                “He’s too tall.”
                “What?”
“To be a naval aviator. I’m a naval aviator.”
“Clearly didn’t get his height from you.”
“No…” Pete says dryly, doesn’t bother mentioning the convoluted relationship that he and Bradley have.
“So what, he jumps out of planes instead of flying them?”
“Oh, he can fly them too. He’s been flying since he was 14. Perk of having a whole bunch of honorary uncles willing to fly him up and getting him his flight hours. Unfortunately he can’t both pilot the plane and then jump out of it,” Pete says.
                “He’s a lucky kid.”
                Mav hopes he remains lucky.
…             …             …
It’s become second nature, either of them able to also carry out the safety checks and make sure that Bradley has definitely done everything. He never misses anything and it soothes a part of Tom, knowing Bradley takes his own health and safety seriously. There is no cutting corners or rushing through anything. They never talk about Goose, but he wonders if he thinks about his father every time he checks the stitching for wear, every time he runs his hands over the fabric and checks for tears before rolling it carefully to ensure it unfurls correctly while he’s plummeting toward the earth.
They all learn about static lines and accelerated freefall, and things have changed since he was in flight school. The materials they use now are much more durable. All of Bradley’s gifts are centered around skydiving. Tom becomes fairly knowledgeable around the entire process, another set of regulations to add to his already encyclopedic knowledge of Naval regulations. He somehow becomes friendly with a couple of the higher ups in the FAA and he becomes known around the airstrip as Ice, most people not realizing exactly who he is. He admits it to himself that he likes it, that he’s just a guy who knows a lot about planes. Added to that is the US Parachute Association and Tom has a new map in his study showing all the drop zones in the state as well as the neighboring states.
Neither of them had intended to become this involved but neither of them say anything to each other. Tom has had to check with several people about potential conflicts of interest, but it’s agreed that he is, first and foremost, a naval aviator, so if he wants to fly a private plane on his own time that’s allowable, as long as he’s meeting all the FAA regulations. The FAA make a special dispensation (his new friends doing him this favor), allowing them to sign off flight hours, but neither of them are officially instructors. They do both become FAA-certified parachute riggers though.
It’s through one guy he knows in the FAA that he acquires the hangar. It’s an old Navy one, but Pete’s been making noises about wanting to renovate a P-51 Mustang he keeps seeing for sale, but how he’s got nowhere to keep it. They could store another plane there too, Bradley’s sky-diving one in the future. It seems like it’s definitely going to happen, Bradley making a business plan and presenting it to them and asking to have his parent’s life insurance money to help him purchase a plane. Tom can give their planes a home, so he purchases the hangar and gives it to them a joint fortieth birthday gift for Mav and graduation present for Bradley.
A different plane comes into their life a little earlier than anticipated, although none of them have to buy it. Pete comes to an agreement with one of Bradley’s instructors. They’ll store the plane in their currently empty hangar in exchange for being able to use it to take Bradley up for jumps, paying for fuel and carrying out the checks and maintenance. Somehow word gets around – there are two pilots capable of signing off flight hours. They can count as solo flights as they aren’t instructors. Others wanting to jump out of planes arrange times with Bradley.
He hasn’t spent so much time in the air since flight school and he loves every moment, regardless of whether he’s piloting or doing the checks before Bradley does his jumps. His relationship with Mav has settled into an easier less-volatile thing, maybe his promotion to Rear Admiral has made him feel less threatened by the potential fallout if anyone decides to voice their concerns about his relationship with Pete.
…             …             …
“I’ve done it. The five-hundred jumps, more than three years in sky diving, done more than fifty jumps in the last year, got my medical and I’ve got more than 8 hours of freefall time logged. I can apply for the Tandem course now…”
“Proud of you. You’ve been working towards this for a long time.”
“Thank you! For taking me up and buying the hangar, and just… thank you so much. I know you and Mav both don’t really get it, but you’ve never made me feel like I didn’t have your support this entire time.”
“It’s what parents do. Good parents that is.”
He throws his arms around Ice then, hugs him tightly and doesn’t let go.
                “The best parents.”

Scotty-
Sorry call dropped. Phone died. You still haven't sent solar charger or gotten my kids & assets.
No rape or murder warrants as of yesterday. A clerk finally picked up at Sandiego PD but everyone keeps telling me to call my PD. They don't work or return calls and clerks are rude & bitchy- hang up. They know they're in deep shit on murder bribes in probate fraud.
1203 Judge Davis's clerk called yesterday to say not to call again. I understand Judge Kelly Mok and Judge Davis were sanctioned 80% of paychecks. This is wonderful news! Thanking my legal team for support now!(:
We'd actually like to have all rotating judges and courtrooms recalled involved in foul play on my case in 6 years. Scotty feels bad they're losing jobs but I tend to feel worse for Mommies they murdered. Scotty says he doesn't hate his mom after 64 years of government handling. But he hasn't returned to her home to visit his sister yet because the stigma of his father smearing Mrs. Valentine with law enforcement rapes in front of him- has imprinted on his memory. He deals with toxicity- mommy hatred and sodomizing of courts- for they raped him stupid on drugs. We survived it and want to help my kids heal now.
Dr. Bug is still intending to assist with uncoupling via Gwyneth Paltrow "uncoupling" team so no one else is murdered as a probate on my team.
This is a serious issue and likely public defense will close down next week.
Get your friends out of prison.
I called congress & assembly woman at governors office & alerted government Mrs. Jackson- Jones life is under Duress with Covid.
Please transfer her to a civilian hospital. I was promised confirmation of this yesterday. She's a 72 year old Chicagoan black mother of 5 that was kidnapped on holiday by RSO politically racist Sheriff at Desert Train Station.
She's a civil Activist I deeply admire for her health crusader research and teachings on gut health.
Mrs Jackson relies on Urine Therapy but dentist ripped out all her teeth last month and she can barely talk!
Luckily she'd memorized congressman Daughtery's number.
Lady clerk was bitch and didn't understand Mrs. J's health issues- was extremely racist- and even assembly woman's clerk at office said they're not doctors.
No they are not
This is point Chowchilla is mass murdering on petty crime and these mothers and Grandmother's are not allowed any medical services.
They've been in covid quarantine isolation for 4 years barred from their benefits and Healthcare.
This is Riverside County Healthcare IEHP - inland Empire Healthplan- we witnessed them kill for gay mommy haters at Dr's, obyn, therapists & all forensics- except Dr. Adam Cash.
Please close every foul Dr's office that lied to me and sold me on black market.
Your jobs aren't more important than mine. Mothers have most important role in universe.
It's unfortunate so many Dyke Judges & PD's are Sterile.
They also Sterilized Britney with a handler. We want to press charges against Sammy's cop uncle for molesting and grooming Sammy into her probate con.
We'd also like to prosecute Broker Joe Jelly and his pimps for selling Darin David Joye on black market as a child to gay attys.
None of defense sodomising was good for our families, bands (Birds of Olympus died! Best Irish band since Beatles! Because of his handler job on atty cons at PD!)
We've had enough of toxic handlers spin doctoring us!
Dr. Bug just called back and was doubting our rape testimonies.
He was needling, asking if I was molested. He knows I was- by David Farley Kaplan but his intention is to attack Catholics. A neo-nazi handler?
I told him whole US Army raped me. Then he laughed and said, " That's Alot of Dick!"
Actually it was alot of Dykes.
No transvestites don't have dicks.
The US army & Airforce are recruiting for trans nation.
Wake up.
The attys immigrate them- steal from Ukraine & MX- and yes America too.
This is a genocide on woman, mothers and babies.
It needs to stop now.
Dissolve my estate with Dr. Sunil Rawal.
We do not welcome him nor sponsor him in USA and we don't feel our courts should have either.
They've been grossly ignorant of real estate law in name of greed.
They think they work for the buck.
They don't.
They work for me & you- our tax dollars. Every government clerk in California lacks manners and basic civilian business skills favoring organised crime.
Every single one of them needs to be fired. Social services murdered millions in name of #ObamaCare & we don't appreciate @nityacapital plagerising my name in America- as first published and copy righted "Nitya" in USA- they are mass murdering universities in name of mental health crime.
Neo nazis are paying for these Indian elections.
We long for spiritual mothering of India- not commercial rape and extortion globally.
What a disappointing election with a manic Indian like our x on stand.
Please don't vote Indian or for lawyers ever again!
Scotty is calling me off hook.
Look Mrs J will die today if I can't get my work done.
Go call court and do your job if you want any left over attention after 5pm at the end of business day.
I'm at library and don't feel like giving cops any more exciting data to drool over on video.
They're so stupid- we really can't risk talking to them. It's just one mistake after another. We reccomend to release all moms, fire the judges.
PDs don't need to be nervous of how their victims will be released.
We will take care of it.
Send the attys to Princess dorm.
Write me and I'll make sure staff improves their care plan.
Xo
Love,
Nitya Huntley Rawal

trying to articulate my frustrations with Marvel’s treatment of female characters and characters of color
Hi, hello, hola, bonjour. I've been having a lot of thoughts about Marvel’s lack of diversity and of how they treat minority characters, so I'm taking a page out of Luisa’s (@its-tortle) book and just making a long, rambley post to get it all out.
Please bear with me while I try to encapsulate all of my frustration within the limitations of English language.
(ALSO, I'm white. I’m Spanish-American, but I do not have the ability to speak for fans of color and the other grievances they have. This post is just a combination of my own thoughts and what I've heard other people say on Tumblr, in YouTube videos, in articles etc.)
Now that we've had over week to collect ourselves after the WandaVision finale, because it was such a tearjerker and the end of a true masterpiece of a show, we really need to talk about how Marvel treats their their characters of color and female characters. I'll specifically be looking at Sam Wilson, Natasha Romanoff, and Monica Rambeau.
Let's start with Sam.
Until Monica Rambeau became Photon just a few weeks ago in WandaVision, Sam was THE ONLY Black superhero in the MCU.
He first appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier 7 years ago in 2014, and he's been in 4 movies since then (not counting the post-credits of Ant-Man).
Let's see what we know about Sam in the MCU:
He was a pararescue airman in the U.S. Airforce
His wing-man, Riley, died in combat, prompting him to leave active duty
He works at the VA to help other veterans adjust to civilian life
That's it. This is all we know about his backstory, separate from Captain America. However, the MCU decided to include these parts of his backstory, (and exclude others) because they make him a better supporting character to Steve.
Sam's a vet - so is Steve. They have the same, early-morning run routine that alludes to strict military training. Steve is still new to the future and hardly knows or approaches anyone, but Sam is wearing his VA sweatshirt, so there's some sense of connection, one that is furthered when they talk about their beds being too soft. Sam is someone who can understand him, aside from being a super soldier.
Riley, Sam's wingman, died in combat - Hmm, haven't heard that one befo - oh, wait. *Bucky waves from the abyss of the Alps*. Yeah.
I'm not saying that these connections are bad, in fact, I think the opposite. In terms of storyline, these connections are incredibly important for their friendship. Steve is lost and alone in the future. No one he knows cares about him for any reason other than the fact that he's a super soldier, nor can he relate to any of those people on any level. Sam just fits. He's funny and kind and although they are 60 years apart in age, he can, to some extent, understand what Steve is going through in a way they no one else can.
But for the last 7 years in the MCU, all he's been is Steve's supportive friend.
Almost immediately after meeting Steve, Sam is dragged into an end-of-the-world battle. He readily agrees to put his life on the line to fight by Captain America's side. After SHIELD falls, Sam gives up his life for 2 years to help Steve find Bucky. When they find him, Sam, without a second thought, becomes an international fugitive to protect Bucky and Steve.
I mean, he practically says that he lives in Steve's shadow himself:
"Don't look at me. I do what he does, just slower."
Who does all this? Seriously? Sam is also a recovering vet. He, in theory, has a life, a family, a job, his own mental well-being to consider, but he immediately gives it all up to help Captain America, to follow in his shadow, to be his back-up and support in every battle. Marvel wrote him as a 2D character that lacks his own identity and agency.
Sam deserves his own storyline; he deserves to exist outside the orbit of Steve Rogers.
What Mackie has been able to do with the character is astounding. He took Sam off the page and truly brought him to life, turning him into a beloved character. I'm ecstatic that both Mackie and Sam finally (hopefully) get their time to shine in TFATWS, but it should have happened WAY sooner. Marvel has continuously overlooked Mackie, despite how much he brings to the movies and despite the significance of Sam as the only Black superhero. It's just so clear that they do not care about representation.
(And let's not start with the whole "Bucky should be Captain America" thing, thanks)
Next, let's talk about Natasha.
Nat has been in the MCU for 11 years, starting with Iron Man 2 in 2010. She was heavily featured in an additional 6 MCU movies (not including small cameos/post-credit sequences). She's one of the few female superheroes in the MCU, and the only one that's been there since the beginning. Nat was the only female superhero for 4 years until Gamora appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Let's see what we know about Natasha's history:
She's a former KGB operative and assassin, trained in the Red Room project
When she was a part of the Red Room, she was sterilized
Clint Barton got her out of the Red Room and converted her to a SHIELD agent
THAT'S IT. The second point is actually nauseating because this is what she says to Banner when we learn about her infertility in Age of Ultron:
"They sterilize you. It’s efficient. One less thing to worry about, the one thing that might matter more than a mission. It makes everything easier — even killing. You still think you’re the only monster on the team?"
Like, actually, what the fuck? I remember watching this scene and having to rewind because I thought I mis-heard what she said. In truth, Natasha is probably referring to the terrible things she was forced to do as a KGB operative are what make her a "monster," but why in the world would they include this anecdote here?? It's just so distasteful and disgusting! It makes it seem like her infertility is what makes her a monster, perpetuating the misogynistic belief that the center of a woman's identity and purpose is to have children.
As Vox says in this article, the subject of Nat's infertility
"rears its head sub-textually when Black Widow sacrifices herself for the Soul Stone. [...] It’s reasonable for Natasha to make the calculation that Clint’s kids deserve to have a dad when they come back to life after the Avengers complete their “time heist.” But because of that Ultron plot, there’s also an insidious implication that Natasha’s infertility renders Black Widow just a little bit more disposable than the rest of her teammates."
Furthermore, Nat's death in Endgame serves for nothing more than motivation for the other characters working in the time heist, WHICH ARE ALL MALE. Even then, the other characters talk about her death briefly (in a mostly unaffected manner), and by the end of the movie, she's been pretty much forgotten about,  completely overshadowed by Tony Stark.
I don't want to say that Nat shouldn't have died in Endgame. It caused me so much heartache and emotional pain, but I truly believe it was a great way to end her arc. CinemaWins on YouTube put it best:
"She needed to save her family, Clint included, finally wiping the red from her ledger. So much of her jouney in the MCU was trying to find her purpose, figure out which side she was on, and she finally feels like she's found it, just in time to die for it.
"It's not wrong to feel cheated by her death, [but I think] she deserved this moment because of it's importance."
She says it in the movie:
"I used to have nothing, and then I got this. This family. And I was better because of it."
Nat shouldn't have to die, but it's on her terms, and she is absolutely ready for it. Saving her chosen family... that is her purpose.
But altogether, over the course of the MCU, Natasha was cheated out of getting the storyline she deserved. Like Sam, she was relegated to the position of the supportive friend of Steve, but also of Bruce and Clint. For the audience, her identity is tied to this role that she plays. The identity and motivations she has independent from these other characters, her history, is skimmed over, and treated with immense disrespect.
It took 11 years, but it is thrilling that Scarlett Johansson finally gets to be the start of her own Marvel movie. There is no way that Black Widow will be able to completely make up for her and Natasha's mistreatment by the MCU, but I hope it will at least bring us some closure and allow us to have a better understanding of Nat's history and who she is away from the other Avengers.
Last, but certainly not least (despite what WandaVision may have you believe) is Monica Rambeau.
I spoke about this last week after posting about this review of the show, but it bears repeating.
Monica is a new character. You'd hope that, after 11 years of extremely limited diversity in the MCU, much to the dismay of fans worldwide, and after recognizing this and creating a movie with a cast like The Eternals, Marvel would try to get their shit together across the board.
Nope!
Monica was seriously the token diversity character of the show. It seemed like they would give her more depth after the episode during which they flashed back to the her during and after the snap, losing her mother, and seeing a little bit of what she's done as an adult since Captain Marvel, but that ended up being the most we got.
But why? Monica literally became a SUPERHERO. She became Photon! She deserved a much greater role in the show, especially in the finale, where she instead had maybe 5 lines and just stopped some bullets for about 30 seconds.
As the review I linked says,
“There are so many black writers, fans, and critics noting how Monica got relegated to a complete lack relegated to meaningless best friend protector lacking in their own self agency and story except for making a shoehorned comparison of grief.”
Marvel made the same, bull-headed mistake that they made with Sam with Monica!
Let's do this again. Monica was snapped away for 5 years, and when she was snapped back, she learned that her mother had died. Losing someone you love and having the whole process of mourning and pain be complicated by the snap? What an interesti- oh wait. *Vision phases his head through the wall with a smile*
The only reason we got this backstory was because it made her a more sympathetic character towards Wanda. Her understanding of what Wanda is going through allows her to be the catalyst in the creation of the ideological fork in the road between herself, Darcy and Woo, who see Wanda as a victim of grief and loss, and Hayward and the rest of SHIELD, who see her as a dangerous threat.
How do you make the same, major mistake that you've been making for the past 7 years again? Guess what? You don't! Maybe it's not intentional, but Marvel, again, clearly doesn’t care enough about their characters of color to consider the roles they relegate them to in the MCU, realize what they've been doing is harmful, and then change it.
Hopefully, they will not continue to treat Monica this way and will remedy this in the next Captain Marvel.
In conclusion: MARVEL GAVE A FUCKING ROBOT AN ACTUAL ORIGIN STORY, A RELATIONSHIP AND MORE INDEPENDENCE THAN ALL OF THESE CHARACTERS.
But in all seriousness, Marvel needs to be help accountable for how they treat women and their characters of color in the MCU. I just looked at 3, but you could also make a similar argument about Rhodey, Hope van Dyne and Valkyrie, as well as Jane Foster, MJ, and Ned, although they are supporting characters and not superheroes. And I'm sure there are many others. Marvel (and Disney!!) has had an awful track-record, and change is long overdue.
