The dress, meanwhile, has a flouncy tiered skater silhouette - a femme profile that Taylor is very familiar with and has worn so many iterations of in skirt form.

But here, accessorized with a ton of gold chains, and rendered into an all black ensemble feels more Black Swan ballerina meets 5pm business goth punching out from the clock. Taylor opted to keep the buttons undone for a more relaxed and ‘undone’ fit through the forearm which reminds me very much of the oversized silhouettes she would don around 2017 that back then felt like baggy coats of armour but here has a bit more polish thanks to the shirting detail of the dress.

An a-what-a?

The entire shoot feels this way to me, but this pose in particular coalesces to represent the ethos of the piece in one frame: Feminine power and artistry. I can't help but imagine though what this moment could have looked like if styled with the removable hood and asymmetric sleeve options that it was originally designed with. But ultimately the choice to have her curls as a defining calling card feel like the 'right' option for Taylor and to center her most identifiable human features for an inherently 'personable' piece.

Like all things, the 'accessory' choices (a fluffy cat, a coordinating black guitar) in this shoot feel highly intentional to me as symbols of Taylor's personality and work.

LADY GAGA IN ALAÏA AT UPFRONT SUMMIT

Lady Gaga spoke at the Upfront Summit (basically, the tech world's Oscars) yesterday in Los Angeles. She talkes about her brand Haus Labs, and her "long standing vision for the future and art."

Lady Gaga wore a total look from the Alaïa Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Her look included a large nude wool coat with contrasting black buttons strategically placed in a V formation ($6,360), and the turtleneck maxi flare dress with sleeveless cut, fitted body, straps across the back and shiny viscose skirt ($3,290 - available in pink and red).

For this collection, creative director Pieter Mulier explored time not as an abstract concept but a material notion – its signs and signifiers, its reflections through fashion. Making time. Seams trace not only the form of the body but the life of these clothes, like timelines charting their evolution and refinement, the process behind their invention.

Buttons are oddly emblematic of time, of process: the ritual of dress, of fastening of oneself into a garment, a time of change and reinvention, a promise of future revelation at their unfastening.
